The native LED Notification is very limited on my Verizon G3. I cannot find the email notifications and think it is not included. I am not able to access any LED setting other then:
1. Incoming Calls
2. Missed Calls & Messages
3. Missed Voice mail
4. Battery
I have the g2 and this feature is 10x better. I am very disappointed in the G3 when it comes to the native LED settings. I had to download lightflow.
Does anybody have native email LED notifications on their LG G3.? Maybe I am just not seeing it.

I don't think there's a native option either. Side from Light Flow there's also an xposed module for LED Control. Very simple and easy to set up for every app..

At first I couldn't figure out what setting/configuration to use to make email LED notification to work; it was driving me crazy. Then I started to realize that it wasn't a native setting that I was missing but it wasn't a feature! I love the Xposed framework; I am continually surprised by all the features available. Thanks for the tip!

I would like to have my SMS popup and light up the screen in the very least (like on the iPhone). Not sure if I want the same for email but maybe a 3-sec balloon would be nice (kind of like growl).
Any suggestions?
Handcent SMS.
Not sure about email.
Go SMS does just the same
if you just want a popup notification for these events, you can use Tasker. Tasker is complicated at first but after you understand how it works, you can create some good stuff. Right now I have a popup "ballon" that notifies me of new moves on words with friends with a popup, sound, led, and vibrate. I did this because WwF's notifcation is still new and basica n doesnt even work well.
smspopup is also good.

SMSpopup is what I use now and it works pretty well for SMS. For calendar, I'm currently testing Calendar Snooze, but at that price, I might as well get Tasker.
Tasker seems awesome but I know I'll have to spend hours to configure it and I'm not sure if I want to do that.

I'm pretty sure you're joking but this is like telling someone who used to own a Brand A car with satellite radio to go back to Brand A because his new Brand B car comes only with a standard radio. The more sensible thing would probably be to explore the option of installing a satellite radio in his awesome new ride.
Or in my case, an app that turns the screen on when I get events notifications.

Thanks, I do. But I don't think I'll suffer too badly if I have to get a seperate app for each notification type. I'm debating between Go SMS, Handcent SMS, and Chomp SMS for SMS. They all kind of look the same.

SMS Popup works well. And you don't have to use a different messaging app to use it.
+1 for smspopup
Light Flow - LED Control
It costs 1$ but works well and has lots of settings including setting different LED colors for different notifications; different sounds; different vibration patterns.

I have recently moved to an S3 after years in iPhone land. Its been mostly great, the S3 is a way more open and powerful platform. However a coupe of small things are driving me nuts.
All I want is my phone to vibrate and ring at the same time for incoming calls. Vibrate and play a tone when an SMS is recieved and neither vibrate or play a tone when an email is recievied (but still pop up the icon in the notification area). Seems simple enough, but it appears to be impossible on the stock phone. The only setting covering vibration in the Sound menu is "Sound and Vibration" but if I tick this the damn phone vibrates for all notifications, even if I have the notification sound set as "Silent".
The most frustrating thing is that is seems vibration settings per app used to be there in the S2, but have been removed in the S3. Now the Messaging and Email Apps do not have a specific vibrate option, rather it is all controlled with the global "Sound and Vibration" option.
My other annoyance is there is no easy way to control the brightness from the notification area (with out installing a crappy app). Once again it appears the S2 had a slider right on the notification pulldown, but for some reason this was removed?!?
I have used up all my Google Fu and have no answers. Can anyone suggest how to do these seemingly simple things in the stock rom, or suggest an app or even rom that has these features.
Thanks.

You can fix that in the messaging app settings. Messaging -> Settings -> Notification Settings. Tick Notifications and then select a ringtone. If it is still not working then its a bug, try rebooting the phone.
Regarding brightness control, try the app Quicker in Google Play

Is anyone else having problems where your phone freezes for a few seconds when you recieve a sms while the phone is in use?

If i were you i'd do a factory reset.
Before i got my phone i had heard issues where notifications either wouldnt appear or would appear even when there is no text and various other issues regarding sound etc
So to make sure i didnt get any of these issues as soon as i got my phone i didnt a factory reset straight away and i haven't had any issues.
I've set my phone to silent and vibrate. The SMS notification vibration duration is annoyingly long on the S3. Is there a way to shorten it?
I use volume control + pro, and everything is good.... Give it a try

I have exactly the same problem. Since i get a lot of mail every day, it's annoying to have vibration enabled, but disabling it in global settings disables it also for SMS :/ I don't think there is a way right now to leave it enabled for SMS only.

So after all this discussion, has anyone figured out how to disable just the vibrate alert for the stock email app? I still want notification in the taskbar, just no vibrate.

No problems at all. As has been said, you need to set your notifications in the in app settings, not the general sound settings on the phone.
To start, go into the phone settings and select sound, and then for notifications set it to silent. Leave sound and vibration as checked.
Then use your in app settings to set you sound and vibration for notifications. I haven't used the stock email app, I use the gmail app. You have to go into the settings for each individual app, but you can set a custom notification sound and vibration for each account. I tested this with two of mine, having vibration on for one and off for another then sent some mail. It vibrated for the account with vibration on, and did not vibrate for the one with vibration off.

OK, just out of interest sake I set up an email account using the stock email app and while it does have custom notification settings for each account, it does not give you the option to disable/enable vibration. So, to me, it appears you can not turn off the vibration in the stock email app without turning it off for the whole phone.
I would assume your only choice would be to use a third party email app if this is important to you.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I'm on stock everything and it works fine. Only thing I had to do is install an app to get some specific mp3 ringtones I had made. But I do have the option for different types of vibration for different contacts or groups, the silent mode works and the custom vibration also works.

Hi, I'm new to Android (long time iOS user) and recently bought the Xperia Z2. I like the interface of the default messaging app, but it lacks features. Can anyone recommend a good SMS app that is similar to it? I've tried gosms, hoverchat, textra, hello sms, and chomp sms. Also, does the default messaging app have a mark to read thing?
I would go for chomp sms, but it just looks a bit too weird for my taste.
I've been using chomp for ages and wouldn't even consider going back to stock. My main reason was the repetitive notifications and that it is highly customizable. Try it, you'll soon get used to it. Word of advice though, pay for the full app because those ads can get annoying!
I heavily recommend EvolveSMS. I used to use the AOSP Messenger (stock Android messenger, pretty bare-bones, hardly any features) until a friend recommended I try this one called Evolve, and now I would never think of going back, lol. It's so pretty, and the swiping left-to-right to get between different conversations with people is quite useful. Also, it has the Read button that you mention (though I think it's disabled by default, there's an option for it in the settings).

Sorry, worded it wrong. Yes, unlike GoSMS there is no custom LED Notification.
What I am seeking is custom sounds and LED for each SMS Contact.
While you can set the LED notification color in Textra, there are no options for specific settings per contact. Not that I know of at least.
(I obviously don't text enough to even consider an option like this. Then again, I hate texting and avoid it as much as possible )

I believe I have stumbled across individual notification sounds and LED's.
From the main list of all your SMS addresses Press and hold on an individual contact then in the top right corner of the screen tap and select 'Notifications'.
This brings up a list of options for that individual contact.
I am using TextSecure. It allows encryption of messages when the other person has it too, it is free and u can set it as standard sms app. Also u can set a password to protect your messages.

Does anyone know of a way to change the Notification Sound for a contact individually? I know I can change the sound on the SMS app, but all of my contacts will play the same sound when I get a text. This was an issue on the LG G2 for Verizon also. I like the standard messaging app and would rather not install a 3rd party app. Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks.
As far as I'm aware, if you go in to your contacts and click edit or whatever, there should be an option to change the notification sound for that contact specifically. Hope I helped! Let me know if it works for you!

Guys,
For those out there who have this phone or are still testing. Can you:
Set different ringtones by contact (I can see you can only set 1 ringtone by SIM card in settings)?
Can you assign different notifications per app? Eg: a different sound to SMS receive compared to email received -- Can you set notification sounds in the native app itself while disabling the normal Huawei system notification otherwise?
LED notification PULSE light. Any one take a video of it displaying in the dark?
Can you set different LED colours by different notifications using a 3rd party app like LIGHTFLOW? Not sure if it has Pie support yet...
The fact that there's a 99% likelihood this phone cannot be unlocked to customise as I see fit is a big turnoff, meaning a lot of useful apps I have to go without...making Huawei stand up and tick more boxes is now extremely important
Any help is appreciated

Based from my limited reading, the OS itself is preventing this. I am a big fan of customized ringtones and notifications too. I'd know when it's my wife calling or when it's work or something else. I'm not closing my doors on this. I hope we'll get a solution real soon.
If you use Google contacts, click on the contact go to the 3 dots on the top right in the menu there is set ringtone
Google messages, settings, notifications, sounds
If you go to settings, apps, notifications, sounds you can set different tones for almost any app
weird, I don't see any "notifications" under apps as you've said

Even without Google contacts you can set tones for different people in the stock dialer contacts app, go to edit the contact and at the bottom there is a tab saying "more fields" and it will allow you to set custom ringtone. If you go to settings then apps and click the app you want to customize and at the very top it'll say 'notification management" click on that and then click on sound, and then you can pick a sound.

awesome, cheers for that. Shame it only lets you select from the start of the song. Coming from Samsung, it would give you that option as well as suggesting the "best" part of the track for a ring tone. which always worked really well. Do you know if there's anything like that in the software or even a 3rd party app that can do it?
