I have a rooted phone running aospcm7 gingerbread. Everything was working fine til about 2 weeks in. The wifi just stopped obtaining the ip address and no matter what access point i try it just simply cannot connect. From what i read a factory reset seems to work? i'd really rather avoid that...
i have the same problem too but im using miks cm7 6.5.5. half of the networks i try to connect to just stay stuck at obtaining ip address. anyone know why?

Have you tried connecting to the same Wifi networks through other devices? like a laptop? It may not be a problem with the phone.

Yes i have in fact right now my computer is connected to my school network but my phone cannot connect. So it's definitely the phone, thank you though!
Go to WiFi settings - press the menu key - advanced - try a different regulatory domain (13 or 14). ;-)

Yes. Also try setting the Wifi sleep policy to 'Never'. Also if possible try to change the authentication type of your network. I always face this issue with WEP authentication.

Wipe dalvik and cache partition, reboot and try

I've had the tablet for only a couple days and after a few it is now unable to connect to wireless, I've tried other wireless networks and from the looks of things it is unable to get a IP address.
I've looked in logcat using SL4A and it says the DCHP request failed, the Wi-Fi Checker app fails half the time and when it does get to IP settings.
Oh and I've tried Starbucks and 2 hotel wi-fi's all of which worked fine before but now can not even connect, it just goes in a loop getting a IP address.
Oh and I tried doing a factory reset and that did not work.
I'd take it back

Yeah. If the factory reset failed to correct the issue it's probably best taking it back.
Hi
I have a very weird problem with Galaxy S3.
The problem is that suddenly out of the blue, the phone no longer connected to my home wifi, which it had no problems connecting to it.
the signal is extremely weak, and only connects to it when you sit next to the router.
When you forget the connection, the bars go up and connection looks very strong. as soon as you start connecting to it, it drops to the way it was, and not getting connected.
All other stuff I have (laptop and other phones) work perfectly, so not a router thing
I have rooted and updated to the latest ROM, but still same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
is this happening with all wifi networks or just ur home network. If only on home network then try turning off your router and then restart it after some time to see if thats causing the problem.
also have u installed any updates/roms recently?

Well, I have not tried any other wifi, but I have another phone and laptop that work perfectly with the same router.
I also restarted the router, but nothing's happened.
I installed another ROM, but this time it keeps asking for password as it says it is incorrect. but as soon as I stand next to the Router, it hooks up to it with same supposedly incorrect password.
Regards

Had similar problem and I think a few people experienced this where suddenly the phone stops playing nicely with WPA2 security, so that's worth looking into

Try a Google, there were a few threads concerning it a while back, with several solutions I seem to remember
Try running router for a few days with no security see what happens .

Nothing worked!!!
Dear all,
I have tried every solution there is, tried so many routers , work, hotels, cafes ..nothing same problem keeps coming up - authentication error occurred.
when you get close enough to router it works automatically.
I have since replaced firmware many times, have replaced the antenna, but nothing ...same problem.
Any help please, I am out of ideas!!!
The only idea for me is dump it and buy an iphone!
Same Problem!!!!

I am facing the exact same problem with my S3.
I have all security/no security. Is there any solution?????
i can also try to repair my phone, provided someone can explain what to repair.
Looking for a response.
Same problem
Hi,
I have the exact problem.
Wifi works when phone close to router (2-3 metres). When away it still shows connected but wont have internet access.
If I try to connect little away from router with full wifi signal, it says "Saved Secured" or Authentication error.
Tried flashing different stock roms but still same problem. Tried resetting router. Tried changing router channel and disabling security. But still same.
Anyone fixed this issue?

Have you both tried a complete clean install? And by that I mean wiping /system /data /preload cache and delvik.

Hi, Thanks for the response.
Yes I did everything through recovery. I havent rooted my device. So I cleared cache and did factory reset through recovery.
For some reason I am unable to connect to my home WiFi network. It acts as if it is about to connect by saying authenticating and then stops and does not connect act all. Then after if I try to connect to the network again it says "Failed to connect to network". I have noticed this has happened to me before when I flashed the Viper ROM so I just went back to stock. I do not know why this issue is occurring.
Try fixing permissions in recovery. This appeared to work for me.
Something else to check is the setting called "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep": System Settings --> WiFi --> Menu --> Advanced. Try a different setting and see whether that works.

I too have been having Wifi connection issues. I was on Viper with no issues. I was trying Carbon and thats when it started. I tried crpalmers kernel with no luck. I was trying to follow his instructions to check for modules but it seems to be over my head. I dont have much experance with adb. The last time I flashed the kernel i wiped cache and dalvik before and after and fixed permissions.
Thanks

Yup, I'm a moonshiner. I just read that CM 10 ROMs aren't liking WEP. And to change it to WPA2. Going to try that here in a few minutes.

That was it changing the router security to wpa2. Hooked right up.
I get the same problem on AOSP roms. Doesn't happen on stock though...

WPA2 on both home and work routers. That's not the issue for me. It seems that when I try to connect manually, it fails. When Android connects by itself, it usually succeeds.
wep has no security if you want wep to work change router to wpa/wpa2 then connect then go back to wep and then you weill be able to connect at starbucks or mcdonalds whileiing eatting or drinking your self high as hell

Wait so are you saying I change my router to WPA/WPA2, connect, and then change back to WEP and it will work?
Side note, will all of my devices still connect without having to reenter everything if I keep the WEP password the same?

I realised something now, i entered my gmail account on laptop and it sent my phone a notification, when i opened it I saw that one of my last connected location is Ireland. I didnt download any vpn apps so why is this saying that?
You might want to check the router settings. Some routers have a default limit on how many devices can be connected at once. It sounds like either that or IP address conflicts.

It could be about ip address because there isn't so much device, so what should I do? And I think it could be about dns settings, I tried something for that but couldn't solve it
