Hi there,
I happen to be facing the same issue (modified the platform.xml, now cannot save to both internal external sdcard). Did you manage to solve this problem?
Thx in advance.

Using custom recovery? Or just hard reset?
I have a LG D855 stock rom and rooted (bootloader still locked so no custom recovery). I've tried hard reset already but no luck.

Did you set the selinux context on the platform.xml file post copy? It should be set to 'ubject_r:system_file:s0'. If it isn't you fix with the following command from a root terminal (assuming /system is mounted rw):
Code:
# chcon u:object_r:system_file:s0 /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
You can confirm permissions/context with ls -lZ:
Code:
# ls -lZ /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
-rw-r--r-- root root u:object_r:system_file:s0 platform.xml

It is funny: I tried factory reset (via menu) before and it didn't work. That's why I asked you if you were in custom recovery.
Later yesterday after trying other things, I tried factory reset (via buttons combination) and now my phone is working again. :victory:
Go figure!!

Yea, I did button combo as well, I think is because this method it actually rewrites the system apps not only deletes the user data

[Q] [Dev Help Needed]Restore System Apk

I uninstalled the Protips.apk without doing a backup first and now need to restore it so the OTA update completes. I have the file from another Photon but how do I go about getting it installed? I moved it to /system/app/ with Root Explorer but it won't install.
Do I need to push it with adb? If it somehow needs to be re-signed I'm not sure how to sign w/system signatures.
What steps can I use to complete this?
Thanks.
download the cm5 from yays thread in the dev section and then using 7zip (providing you are using windows) take everything out except protips app and flash it through recovery
If it will flash via recovery and work then would there be a reason why I can't push it via adb? The file that was sent to me should still have the original signature attached correct?
I was trying to avoid unlocking the bootloader and having to install custom recovery.

I THINK that you can flash the via bootstrap recovery. If not try pushing with adb and before you reboot typing
Code:
sync
reboot

I pushed it but not sure about the sync command. Do I need to use "adb sync /system/app/"? It is asking me for a directory but don't know what I am supposed to be syncing.
**EDIT...NM. I need to know the exact syntax for the adb sync command I need to use. Nothing is working. Also, I do not have permission to run the remount command. Does this mean the system may still be read only?
Thanks.

Okay try this.
1st put the protips.apk on your sd card then
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
cp /sdcard/protips.apk /system/app
sync
reboot
this should work
You know do don't actually install the apk. Just drop it in the system/app folder in reboot.
Perhaps I misunderstood your problem.

Yes. However it seems the Protips.apk I have might not be signed properly because it never installs upon reboot. So I was trying to find a way to make this work.

Tried it. All commands went through without issue. After reboot I tried doing the update but when it scans for existing files it still stops at 30%. It is still either not finding Protips.apk or there is something wrong with the file I have. A friend of mine emailed to me in an attachment. Don't know of any other way to get it without knowing how to properly extract an sbf file. Maybe if someone has a TB backup of it and could send to me? Then I could try restoring it. Not sure if something like that would be worth a try.

protips is the only thing that you don't have?
I am not sure. this thread has the ota as an sbf. I saw in another thread you were worried about having to reactivate again. The phone will program over the air you won't have an issue at all. I wish I could help you get protips installed correctly but I am still finding my way around moto. I guess that the mount command we used could be wrong. Not sure :/

Yes. I deleted Protips.apk after rooting and didn't make a backup. The update errors every time because of that file not being installed it seems. Do you think that leaked OTA would restore the missing apk?

This leak is the same as the OTA. The only difference between installing this and downloading the OTA is having to reset everything up.

I'm gonna go ahead and try to figure out how to do the leaked one. I pulled the Protips.apk from Juggs file and still doesn't work. Weird that I can't go to it in Root Explorer and just install it.
Anyways, phone has been factory reset anyways so I'm not worried about having to set it all back up.
Thanks for your help.

Yes. Still wouldn't work. Only thing I didn't try is modifying the update.zip and flashing just to restore the missing apk.
Did you also return the Protips.odex file?

Asus boot logo after Wipe no Launcher :(

Hi all,
happened to me a mishap.
I had done a full wipe but forgot to push the stock launcher back on it, well now the launcher is missing and I can not do anything.
Would have otherwise update the Asus HC recorded but do not know how that should go without Launcher
Who has an advice what I could do?
sorry, trying to understand...
Had you done some sort of modification that removed the stock launcher? There isn't any reason why the stock launcher wouldn't be present. Can you try another factory reset using vol up + power? i don't recall exactly what the sequence is.
Its ok,
my english is not the best.
I delete the stock launcher with a script and forgot to restore it.
And then i do a factory resett..........
No Launcher anymore.........
A Androiddevice without an launcher become a bootloop or something similar
Did you uninstall the APK "launcher2.apk" and it's odex "launcher2.odex"?
I made that mistake and what i had to do was use ADB to install a 3rd party launcher (I found an APK for launcher pro and used that) and then once I had a working launcher, I downloaded Root explorer (I was rooted) and moved the "Launcher2.apk" and "launcher2.odex" into the /system/app folder. From there, I rebooted and everything was gravy
It is essential to include both the .apk and the .odex. Also, you have to have the files from the same build version you are. (You can't use an odex from 8.8.3.29 on a tablet running 8.8.3.33)
does ADB see your device? If so maybe you can push launcher API back to /system/app then set the permissions and you should be all set.

cooper1988, what you have to do is download a new launcher in your pc, put it in your sd card and apply it with the recovery mode in "apply any zip from sd".

well, then you might try flashing a new rom. sorry but if your pad doesnt have recovery, the it is the only way i see.

won't it try to flash whatever image is on the sd card with that combo, effectively a hard reset?
Year
ADB show my device.
But i cant push the apk to /system/app or /data/app

a hard reset is not useful in this case because the launcher in not in the system folder anymore. he have to flash the pad with odin or any other method alike.

I believe you have to mount /system in order to do that push
c:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb shell mount /system
mount: permission denied

a hard reset wont do anything, because it restores all by default, but, if the launcher isn't in the system folder, the phone wont make it appear from nowhere.

before you did factory reset , u removed the launch apk right ? so you had root before you did factory reset , you should still have it now , because factory wipe does not remove root.

Write files on system directory.

Hi all.

Hey,

So the copy to system works without probs?
Do u have root-enabled on it?
U can try Solid explorer once, too, to be sure.

I enabled root explorer and I mounted the file system to be writable, yes I have a rooted phone.
I can copy to system root folders anything (media files), the files stay there until I reboot the phone then they disappear, they get deleted maybe? how to disable that?
Thanks

Sure there's a way, but I can't help u with it, sorry.
With new Titanium Backup u can create flashable .zips but for sure only from isntalled apps.
Maybe u have a look at google. I remind for a tool which u just say what u wanna flash an it creates the flashable .zip.
Much success....

After making a backup from my internal SD using the "backup SD" option in the Toolkit, it pulled all my files to my PC and everything went well.
However after restoring my SD using the "restore internal SD", my permissions appeared to be screwed up.
I could not delete/modify any file anymore on my internal SD. I got a lot of FC from apps.
What are the correct permissions and owner from the internal SD (=/data/media) ??
Did the toolkit change any permissions/ownership ? I thought I saw a " chmod 775 or 755" flashing on the terminal when restoring my SD (about the last command at the end, IIRC).
To get it working again, I did a :
Code:
su
chmod -R 777 /data/media/*
The owner from each file is now "root" (0), but my permissions are complete open (777)
Somehow this doesn't seem correct.... but I don't know.
So, again : what are the correct permissions and owner from the internal SD (=/data/media) ??

[Q] [HELP] Using fastboot/flashmode for pushing system files

I may have edited something wrong in build.prop and now my phone won't load after the SONY logo. I would push a stock build.prop if I had CWM but apparently I lost that after following steps to root JB with locked bootloader. All I have now is fastboot and flash mode.
Is there any way to push a file and set permissions using one of these modes? I can reflash ICS and do everything all over again but if I could just push a stock build.prop I think I can avoid the long way.
PS. Can I also get help putting CWM on this phone? I wanna keep bootlock 'coz I'm a purist like that. Lol! :silly:

No, but fastboot can flash an update.zip according to a wiki. I don't think that's the same as a regular flashable zip is it?
Bump 'coz it's really getting tiring to reflash from zero when just one file needs editing.

I ended up with reflashing only SYSTEM partition via Flashtool (don't forget to uncheck "Wipe DATA"). You are going to loose any modification of "/system" (e.g. root) but at least you won't loose your settings, apps and data.
