Good camera app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I have galaxy s4 with cm11. And I am asking what is the best camera app? (not the Google camera because when i try to make photos there are only 300kb)
Galaxy s4 i9500 cm11

Hmmm, I thought that was an Android phone? Google makes Android. They also have this great thing called search, such a handy tool. So amazing all the stuff you can learn. If that's a Windows phone, you probably have direct access to Bing. Almost as good as Google. Either one will take you right to the answer if you just lift and slide your finger.

In not trying to be funny. There is an old saying: give a man a fish and he's not hungry today. Teach a man to fish and he's never hungry again.
Don't give up so easily. Just as you don't like the two you found, what makes you think you'll like the next two that someone posts here? There are thousands of camera app reviews, don't waste time waiting on someone. You may just learn the exact app you're looking for doesn't exist and you want to create it. I've just pointed you in the direction of your first million.

Here's a list of camera apps recommended by CNET: http://www.cnet.com/news/the-12-best-android-camera-apps-around/
From my experience, Camera Zoom FX is best camera app, or Retrica if you want to take edited photos. And Aviary is the best photo editor there is.
Hit thanks if I helped.

[Q] turn image(.png) into .apk possible?

Hi!
I don't know if i should post this on galaxy ace forum because it's not about the galaxy ace itself. I'm sorry if i'm posting on the wrong sub-forum but you guys are the experts with galaxy ace.
I'll ask for your help anyway
Is it possible to turn an image into .apk? I would like to make some kind of app that shows me an image in full screen (320x480) on my SGA.
If the app already exists, can you tell me what app is that?
Thanks a lot
1. This should be in the general section
2. Isn't that what the Gallery app does?

You don't need to turn an image file to apk to make such app. You need to make an app to read, open, and show you image file(s). The gallery is already there. You can find bunch of the like apps in the market too, e.g. QuickPic.
What on earth for??
Hi all!
Thanks for your tips.
Perhaps i explained myself badly, i''m sorry.
I don't want to open a random picture with gallery. I want an app to open the SAME picture every time i open the app.
Imagine that you have a picture of your grandmother on your wallet, i want more or less the same thing on my phone
I just need press the app icon and voilá, my picture is shown in fullscreen. that's what i was looking for.
Yesterday i was watching some videos on youtube and i now have more or less the idea what i need to do to make such an app.
The problem is that i'm not very savvy with with Java and Android SDK and it will take me some time create the app that i need.

Are you using stock? Do you have 3DGallery?
Well... If so... I barely remember a widget that allows you to place an image wherever you want in your screan... Like having a photo frame on your desktop... I don't know if you know what I mean... But right now I can't remember the name of the widget... But id does pretty much what you are looking for

Ok thanks
I've found an app "Android Photo Widget" that does more or less what i need.
I've added a new screen to SGA and with this widget i picked a photo for that screen.
The only problem is that the picture is always showing and i just wanted the picture to be shown after i press the app button. It does what i wanted, just not by the way i wanted but it's ok.
I'll keep looking for a better app anyway but this one does the job.

Extreme True Multitasking On The Note (Heads up from N7000 forum)

Hi all,
I've already posted this in the N7000 forum and I guess most of you are new here so I don't want you guys to miss out on this really cool find.
Since the note has such a big screen why not push the boundaries and try out some try desktop-style multitasking

Hey I just want to say thanks for sharing this with us! It is very nice to have someone from the International Note forum share the true awesomeness of our devices! Much better than just "oh I forgot this is AT&T note, your device is crap"
coldfustion has the best vid's. tx for sharing it! i ASSume our snapdragon processor can do the same thing, maybe with a touch of lag, maybe not.
i was at a family dinner Friday and i can never think how to show off the phone as everyone is asking me about it. his vid's always give me new ideas
Halleluja! I've been asking for something like this for months. See my split screen/multiview thread in the N7000's theme/app forum. Now please add a couple features:
1. "Snap" like Windows 7 Ultimate has, but slightly different. Make it so that when you drag the app's title bar to a side, it snaps to fully fill the screen halfway on that side. Dragging to a corner makes the window snap to fully fill that 1/4 of the screen. If you have the screen filled with 2 windows (or 3 or 4), make it so you can drag the border between windows and they'll automatically resize at the same time to maintain the screen filled.
2. Have the notification bar pull down over all windows.
If you add these features and make it work, I'll buy a copy for $50.
P.S. Why in the world, if the Note's capable of running all of that at the same time, did Samsung feel the need for such aggressive RAM management that I can't currently switch from my browser window to email, one other app, then back to the browser without my entire browsing session being closed down!?
oh, didnt know this was a promotion for a bunch of PAID apps
thanks anyway

Just bought the browser version. For $1.50, why not?
Honestly I can't see myself using this on my note even though we have the biggest screen size of any phones. I can see this being useful for tablets or for showing off to my iphone buddies!

I didn't think it read like an ad. Then I saw both were paid apps and read it again.
That said, for $1.49, I figured, why not?
Both work great on my I717. Stock ROM, not rooted, running ADW Launcher EX, and using hacker's keyboard. I was able to run two 1080p videos at the same time with the video program, and was able to run 3 you tube videos on the browser. No problems with keyboard. The only problem with lag is it seems as I run more and more videos the sound and video gets a bit out of sync.
Thanks for the link. I like the browser because I am often copy/clipping stuff, or re-keying stuff from the browser window to somewhere else and that makes it much easier. I don't know that I'll use the video thing much, but its neat to show off, as others have said.
Wow, thanks for the information, especially about the 3D UI. It led me to discover many cool apps that I didn't know about before. I really like the Windows-like Contact app and Alternative App Drawer apps especially. Thanks again!

The video app will come in handy for my use case. I like to use the Google Navigation while driving but also want to hear my language training video at the same time. Before there was no way to run my video app while running the navi app at the same time. Now I do! Thanks.
That is a great app and it shows what the future will be for smart phones. Big screens that are used in a Landscape mode for most functions. The only need for portrait is to hold it up to your ear to make a call.
People are making a lot less calls.

This is true, you can expand your phone as far as you want. I mean if you used a bluetooth keyboard and hooked this up to a TV.. I might just try that

[Q] Most impressive features...:D

Galaxy S3 is packing several awesome features. I love all of them. But which one impresses you the most?
The question- Does SGSlll pack a voice lock? Because in the event the girl on the tv said 'wake up" and it did plus in the GSMarena review, when the man xplaining was in the lockscreen, the screen popped up with a message "Failed to recognise voice"....this was happening every time he was speaking.
Please hit "thanks" if yOU have your desired option in the poll...
I think the most impressive feature is the photo sharing in the camera app (don't know the official name). When turned on, other people with S3's can join using the camera app. Once joined photos taken will be available on everyone's phone. Eg. Your friend takes 5 photos, you take 5 photos. You both end up with 10 photos!
/edit Its called Share Shot
What if you cheat on your GF and SGS3 by mistake sends the pics to your GF of you having a good time?

Groupcast support on S III and other devices

Hi,
I learnt the Groupcast feature today by chance and loved it. Me and my wife have S III, it's very useful for us. However, we also have other Samsung mobile devices (Galaxy S, Galaxy W and Galaxy Note) around and it would be great to use this feature all over these devices. Is there any chance to add the Allshare Play app to these older devices ? (At least the Note)
Has anyone tried it ?
Thx.
no ideas ?
Guys,
I really would like to ask this again since it's a nice feature and we'd like to see it on other devices as well. Am I wrong ?
I believe the note can use the allshare app... Don't know for sure, haven't tried...

I went to a Samsung event this week and saw this too. Pretty cool. Not sure what all you need to make this work, but I know it has NOT been working on my HTC EVO 4G LTE even with the ported TouchWiz 4/NatureUI launcher. Of course it probably would help if I was running a Deodexed ROM. I will try this again after I flash one of those and see if the ported SecLauncher2.apk provides enough of a framework to get any of these S-*/AllShare features to work.
From what I can tell you need at least/some or all of the following:
AllshareDMC.apk
AllshareMediaServer.apk
AllSharePlay.apk
AllshareService.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
SecMediaProvider.apk [?]
Try backing up the originals of those files on your ICS Note and then porting them.
I don't think these features work on GB as they are dependent on WiFi direct and I'm guessing Sammy's implementation for that is probably different on pre-GSIII devices.
Hope that helps!
I came across this app called Tapestry, that essentially does the same thing as Group Cast, but much much easier to use. My friends have the GSIII, and to setup a Group Cast, password and all, takes 15 clicks. With Tapestry, it only takes 3! Moreoever, it works on any Android device, not just GSIII's, so you can enjoy the experience with all your Android friends. It only supports pictures for now, but that's pretty much what I use it for anyways. Lastly, the coolest feature that Tapestry has that Group Share doesn't have it that in Tapestry, you have synchronized pinch/zoom/panning, and also direct Peer-to-peer download by swiping down on the viewer screen you immediately download the picture onto your phone! What a cool way to share photos! You can check it out here.

S9+ - no more video recording button after Pie Update ?!

Hello S9+ Fans,
yesterday I updated my S9+ to Android Pie. Lots of new, nice things.
But in the new camera app the video recording button is no longer available. You have to FIRST switch to video mode and them press recording button. To have two buttons, one for Photos and one for videos was a brilliant, very much loved thing. As when you are 'in action' you simply can decide with one click what you aim to do, without priorly having to switch the modes !
Does anybody know how to get the second button back ?
I am even extremely thinking about bringing the old camera app back if it is not possible with the new one. Is there any way to do this please ?
Sorry if I might have overseen a thread handling this already.
Kind regards
Any fix for this?
First they took out dual camera mode then these "dual shooting buttons"... and moved the clock to the left whyyy samsung??!! Not happy with the Android 9 pie s9 s9+ plus update.
Moving the clock was a Google decision, not Samsung's.

The real fail here is the manual video mode removal :silly:
Very stupid decision
This change is a minor annoyance and I'll adjust but it is an annoyance none the less...
I wonder what the thinking was here? Surely no one can consider this an improvement..
This is a freaking useless change and it's totally impractical. Nobody asked for this stupid change and yet, as usual, Samsung decided to implement it...
With android, you just root and change whatever you want. Or use another application suitable.

Yeah but that's not the point. + with Samsung, if you want to use most of the Knox features, root is a no go.
The point is that a software update removes a feature, which is not only useless but also detrimental to the user.
Hey, at least I can find the video mode now because it says the word "video". I had to spend 10 minutes on google to discover how the hell to record video the first time I wanted to do it on my s9+ because there wasn't anything anywhere that looked like it would make video.

.......and therein lies your answer to why things like this happen...
I'm sure a number of people in this boat complained to Samsung the first time around and so they removed this useful feature.
This is why we can't have nice things...LOL!
We live in a planet full of morons. I can't believe that there are people that they need to see the word "video" to understand the place of the function, but can't understand the red dot, the international symbol for video recording. You are so right, we are doomed to never have good things on this planet.

I'd rather hear his complaint than the ones that can't get used to companies changing things. What's the term I'm looking for? Adapt other die? No, that's to harsh and don't wish death. Get used to it? I don't think that's clear enough. Maybe people should just stop recording things, I mean, if someone did that to you you'd tell them to stop. No, you won't be YouTube rich any time soon kids, sorry
why do we have to get used to "changes from companies" that downgrade the abilities of our phones? You must be trolling, there s no other excuse of your unreasoning way of thinking.
Is there any way to install the old camera still having the two buttons ?

I do see the positive other changes, but rather would use the old version to get my two buttons back.
your only practical choice may be installing a third party video camera app from the play store.

This is not an option for me as it would put me in an even worse situation. Samsung's camera uses the camera at its most. Any other app has not that brilliant pics + vids with that device.
So does anybody know how to bring back the Android 8 cam on S9+ having Android 9 installed ?
Thank you in advance.
