USB Tethering Problem - Verizon LG G3

Alright hoping someone can help me out here. I had a note 3 and s5 before and used them to usb tether on my work laptop. Company shut down wifi all together so wifi tethering is out of the question. So the laptop will install the samsung drivers and it allows me to usb tether. I have also tried with a droid maxx and it would tether as well. Well I got the G3 (verizon) and it will not allow the modem driver to install on the laptop so that I can use tethering. So does anyone know a way I can fix this? Such as change the way the g3 usb tethers? Make it act like a samsung phone or motorola? Installing the drivers is out of the question because you have to have administrative rights to do that

anyone?

Rooted user question

Has any rooted users tried to run wired-tether yet?
code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Yes, I know the official wifi tether app works and yes I know there is a promo until May.
I just don't want to deal with billing issue if/when the promo ends.
Will answer my own question again for people who use the search feature:
No, wired tether does not work for rooted users, but perhaps there is some driver issues to be worked out on the PC side. Wifi tether DOES work. More info here:

I guess I am partial to wired tether (before I found out wifi tether had AP/infrastructure working).
Wired tether is free, and with Vista/7/Linux, it requires no drivers.
However, the newest thing is the Thunderbolt uses so much power that I have a hard time charging my phone with EasyTether/PDA net via USB. I don't know if it's because of the program operating in user land or the fact that the Thunderbolt sucks power up.
Having said that, wifi-tether will work great because you can charge your phone at 1A on an AC outlet. The USB 500ma doesn't work so well with the Thunderbolt. It barely charges and runs the phone at the same time

[Q] Tethering to a nonrooted phone

Sorry for the what seems like a basic question but didn't find this in my search of the forums.
I have a non-rooted Evo (that unfortunately I am not allowed to root). Anyone know of a way to use something similar to PDANet to tether to the gtablet?
I would think there would be some way to get this done but am not having luck finding it.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?
Is there really no way to do this? Arg!
if pda net won't work for you and you are on verizon wireless.....you can pay the 20$ a month to use their service........I'm curious, why can't you root?

Shared phone at this point. I can run PDAnet on the phone....there is no client program that I know of to run on android tho for the tab to point the network over the USB to go to the phone.
Its an Evo....so I'm on Sprint.
Thanks for trying.
I think Tether.com has an android program now. Always worked great on my blackberry. Not sure if it will wifi tether or need program on the receiving device though.
Simple answer is root your phone and use Wifi Tether.

Thanks. Rooting is out for me on this phone so oh well.
Looked at this...this works same as PDAnet....an android app is there to share the 4G signal on that device but it assumes you are tethering to a PC or a MAC and has executables for those OS's assuming you are linking to a laptop.
In this case I was trying to link an android to an android. I'll keep looking.

Rooting does nothing to the phone that affects how it works. using a custom ROM does.
I have a HTC Droid Incredible, rooting does nothing to the user experience. But rooting does allow for using ROMs.
Well it makes no difference. I can't install a custom ROM and I believe I have to root to do that. This wasn't particularly helpful.
I don't believe there is a way to tether android to android without being able to manipulate non-userspace (aka superuser access). I'll do some footwork for you, but to my knowledge I don't believe you can. I wish I could be more helpful.
I've been scouring all the resources I could find.i can't find any way for you to do this.....sorry.....
What about a soft root? That is a method of rooting that is not permanent, and will go away every time you reboot your phone. Would that be something you could do?

Thanks to everyone for their assistance. I spent a couple days looking around but never found anything either. Thanks for taking your time to help.
I find it hard to believe this hasn't been done. Wish I knew how to program....
So I have heard rumors you can bluetooth tether to a android phone. But I am not sure how it works.
Please let me know if find anything. I have been trying to find a way to do this as well.

Still looking. PDAnet can run the bluetooth connection on the phone side but I haven't found an app that runs on the gtablet side to route the traffic over the bluetooth connection (or USB if I could find that as well).
I found a bunch of people who have Xoons that were able to do it but apparently it has an option built in to allow tethering over BT (they get a little wrench that pops up once the devices pair). I have found nothing like this in ours.
I'm also trying to find out how to soft root my Evo as I don't want to run Unrevoked but I'm not having luck there either.
Is it the warranty your worried about breaking by rooting? If so I can understand. But I think you may be confusing rooting with installing a custom rom. You don't have to do that. There is no change in the phone except an app in your drawer called super user. Use universal androot apk or z4root and then use the barnacle teathering app from the market. Its connected my PC, Mac, winmo phone, Gtab and Xbox 360 to my phone.
There is a "hack" that works with the Droid X. I don't know if it works with other android phones, but I saw it a while ago on androidforums.com. do a search in the droidx sections.

Tether Gtab to phone for internet access? is it possoble?

Just wondering if its possible to take your droid phone and tether it to the Gtab like you can with a laptop in order to get online.
You need to download the drver for the pc to get something like pdanet to work, so not sure about this

Sure. For Android phone, tons of apps on Google market can let it become Wifi hot spot. Then your gtab can pickup wifi signal to connect to internet. You can check <G Tablet Themes and Apps> section on xda-developers.com.

If you search this forum for wifi tethering, you will find a lot of information on different ways to accomplish this. A little reading goes far here, redundant posts do not. You can find Search field on the top right...
Did search, didnt really find a useful answer.
I have pdanet on droid x2 and am able to connect laptop to internet.
I tried connecting phone and tablet with bluetooth and no luck.
Since I dont have a micro usb to mini usb cable to connect the two to try that im asking if it works. Only cable like that I found was on ebay from hong kong
You will need to do WiFi tethering, not bluetooth or USB.
It seems to do WiFi tethering, if you don't have native phone support you have to root and use one of the apps that provide ad hoc support. I have read all the bluetooth stuff and no one seems to get it working.
Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether
I used both of these apps on my rooted Droid X to create wi-fi hotspots and connect my gTabs to them without having to do anything special. I've used VEGAn 5.1.1 and VEGAn Ginger as well as the CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Stable release) and it's worked with all of them.

Here you've got some info. Unfortunately you will have to wait for a root solution.
yes I tried some posts but nothing else
Yes we are waiting developers friends
Tried it using an aircard but android only picks up the usb stick.
I dont know if it actually help but I saw this on tech republic when they open the tablet.
3G-ready motherboard and case: Sony left an open spot on the motherboard and inside the case for a 3G or 4G card. The internal mounting bracket even has screw holes for it.
Dont know if it is possible to add an internal modem or install driver for that.

At least worked for me. It disables other functions of USB 3G sticks and leave them to be acting only as 3G modem, which then tablet recognizes.
Is there anything new? I have got rooted ICS on my tablet. Is it possible to use 3G USB Modem on my tablet? I have got 2 USB-Modems. The first is ZTE K3565-Z and the second is Option 4G Systems XS Stick P14. Is there a solution?

If darkjesus's method didn't work, then I'm not sure anything will. These modems are not easy to work on a lighter system like Android.
I'm happy to be proven wrong, of course.
In a german forum, i found an app called "UMTS Manager". With this app you can connect with 3G Networks with some Huawei-Sticks and maybe some other devices, too. They use mode-switch to switch device mode to modem only and then it works for them. Here's the link:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/asus-ee...-stick-zum-laufen-kriegen-17.html#post3236187
Of course, a lot of pages But some of them got ZTE K3565-Z working. For me it doensn't. Maybe we can find a solution
I found the reason, why it does not work on Tablet S. Our Tablet does not create ttyUSB*-devices when attaching 3G Modem to the Tablet. Normally it creates ttyUSB*-devices, attaches the Modem there and you are able to connect. I think it's a kernel issue or Sony modified the kernel. But with Custom Rom and Kernel which has got this "feature" it is possible to connect via 3G Modem. Maybe one of us could create this custom Rom..
So how?
Hi there friends
So any tablet s user here found a way to use 3G on this tablet?
About a year...is this question solved? I just bought sony tablet s 32gb wifi and of course hoping usb modem work

You will have better success looking for a portable 3G-to-WiFi hotspot device. Not only will you not have to worry about installing USB modem drivers, the device will work with a non-rooted tablet. Also, if you have a 3G smart phone, look into WiFi tethering.

[Q] USB Tether Mac OSX

Has anyone been able to successfully tether their SGS2 to their Mac without 3rd party software? I’ve tried using instructions I found for the Vibrant but they are all for older versions of OSX and don’t work for me. I just bought this phone yesterday and I’m already missing the simple USB tether options HTC offers. I can just plug my Sensation in and choose between USB Tether Windows or Mac. I’m running OSX 6.7 btw.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
