lol ice cream. I wouldn't know how to get ice cream out of there. Since this a water resistant phone, you could just wash that part of it in pure water and theoretically the ice cream would come out and the phone wouldn't be harmed. Usual disclaimer..don't blame me..blah blah. Don't put it under a tap, just in a bucket or something. Or compressed air if you just want to blow the ice cream away from the earpiece. Both are probably equally stupid ideas, but hey at least it's something

Beware if your charger port cover is loose or damaged. If not and it seals properly that should be fine to pit water on it.

Go to Radio shack, an electronics supply vendor or online and get a can of contact cleaner. Or alternately flux remover or even CCl4, if anyone still sells that.
A distant second would be wetting a tiny bottle brush with 99% rubbing alcohol and carefully /gently cleaning the jack.
.

If I use a blue tooth headset I can hear the caller perfectly and they can hear me perfectly without using a blue tooth headset.Im trying to clean it with rubbing alcohol right now and if that dont work Im going to try compressed air in a can. Thanks for all your guys help.I really do appreciate it. Take care!!!

Rice has some drawbacks.
But first, we need more information. If you are using contact cleaner, it isn't necessary at all. Even several passes with 99% alcohol would assure that no moisture remains. But if you're taking ill advised shortcuts e.g. using 70% or 50% alcohol.. then silica gel packets in a sealed jar, plastic bag, et cetera would be far superior to rice.

Pure alcohol is quite hygroscopic, so there won't be any moisture remaining in your phone that would call for rice.
Is the speaker easy to replace? That's subjective. I think so, but most people wouldn't attempt it. You can't gain access to it with a screwdriver like you could on the S3 /S4.
You need to remove the glued in place display assembly with a heatgun to get at the speaker. Once you've separated the screen from the rest of the S5 that way, then the speaker is easy to replace. And inexpensive if you buy the part online.

Not sure about that really. They advertise it as a water resistant phone, not ice cream resistant. Did the alcohol not work? I don't know if they replace it for water damage even though they say it's water resistant. Someone else will have to chime in here.

No way that a warranty would normally cover ice cream induced damage. Nor water damage either.
As much as you'd like these things to be covered, I haven't seen Samsung promise to fix any defect from any cause or misadventure.

Not sure if you meant the phone or other equipment of yours. But great if the alcohol worked.
Presumably the kid belongs to friends of yours then. They should be the ones paying for any ice cream repairs.

Do they really not cover water damage even when it's advertised as a water resistant phone? That's pretty dumb if you ask me. Especially with phones like the Xperia Z1s which is actually waterPROOF.

Screen residue

I have found a residue about the size of a quarter on the bottom right side of my screen. I have tried removing it without success does anyone have any ideas on what this could be and the best way to remove it? This isn't a screen protector glue it literally appeared out of no where and creates a ruffness to the screen but it has no signs of scratches anywhere on there.

Try Goo Gone
Have you tried acetone? I'm not sure it'd be safe to use on the phone but you might try a q-tip on a small patch to see if it makes a difference? I find acetone usually works in times when alcohol doesnt. Just be careful.
I think I will take it in to the att store today Ans see I'd they can help at all.

When I need to remove residue - such as from tape or stickers, either denatured alcohol or paint thinner will work. Where one doesn't work, the other will. Forget rubbing alcohol, most of that stuff is heavily watered down, usually by 25%.
Here's a tip, not phone related. Ever get gasoline on your hands and notice that washing with soap and water won't make the smell go away? Use a little paint thinner first, rub it all over your hands. Then use soap and water. There won't be a trace of odor left.
No offense, but the last thing you should be doing, is using chemicals of any kind. The phone has a warranty, so let AT&T handle it. The last thing you want, is chemical damage on your Note.

Anyone have any water proof suggestions?

I'm gonna be heading to the beach a lot this summer and I dont wanna put this phone somewhere on shore. I wanna keep it with me at all times. Anyone have something to protect against water?
I would avoid the beach at all costs. Between water and sand it's just a deadly combination for a cell phone.

The exposed surfaces of the phone become what is called hydro phobic (literally "scared of water" but really just repels water). Like how water beads on a waxed car. However, so repelling of water that water can't get through cracks less than about a millimeter or so at close to surface pressures. Your phone has no holes that large but mic jack and USB, and while water goes into the big holes, it can't get past the smaller cracks inside them to get to circuitry.
That's the theory anyway. I'm still not going to try. I just stick my phone in zip lock bag whenever it might be exposed to water, like around the pool or in my sweaty pocket while mowing. Screen still works great, just follow usual precautions about sharp objects near phone (no keys in pocket).
Sent from my EVO LTE using xda premium
I've used ziplock baggies fly fishing in waders and canoeing a handful of times. Works great for me, except not perfect for taking pictures... Touchscreen works fine through the bag...

Something else to consider...don't crack the screen

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+Teardown/13494/1
Just read this report from ifixit. They say it gets the worse repairability score ever! This means it will be nearly impossible to repair if you crack the screen and you'll have to keep insurance on this beast. I fix phones all the time so this is important to me. I feel it affects the long term value of the phone. HTC is making phones that look really good no the outside but the inside is designed to be a disposable device. I've got a problem with that. How do you guys feel about this?
You're really late.... There are other topics about this already.

Hey guys
I wanted to test the build quality of my phone so I took it out of the case. Amd grabbed it from both sides and slightly flexed it
It makes a bit of a creeking noise to which concerns me a little, could this be a fault and result in the waterprofness not working?

I'm not talking about bending. If you put some stress on something for a period of time, it'll start to weaken and then probably creek. I don't know how old you are, but i remember when i had the Nokia 3210/3310/3410 etc. which had plastic back covers, and they would start to creek like hell after i'd removed the covers a lot.
If your thigh bumps and puts stress on the frame of the Ultra for some time (walking and sitting a lot with it in your front pocket, for example), it'll start to creek. That, i can tell you.

I have the same issue with the front facing camera, only I never dropped mine. I started playing with the front camera on Friday and noticed a shadow along one side. At first, I thought this was some kind of filter I had accidentally applied. When I could not find a way to turn it off I thought maybe the top of my case was causing it. When I looked close, I saw that the top half of the camera was being blocked by this gasket. I took it to T-Mobile and they exchanged it as a manufacturer defect and I have a new one arriving today. Once the new on gets here I'll post some pics of the bad one.

I sure try... Thanks. The difference with the post after mine is the phone was never dropped. Warranty is for defects. Insurance is for accidental damage or bricking your phone. My statement was meant for just that, if you do drop it then responsibility should be taken and it is not proper to ask here if you can get away with getting it fixed under warranty.
Cheers
Kenny

Front camera defect
Hi guys! I just joined this site to share my problem with my new Galaxy S5.
It's been weeks since i got my new phone from T-Mobile. I love it! It's a expensive phone so a good cellphone case is a must. I have a case and screen protector to protect my device. Suddenly, I just found out the same problems you had with your phones. I've never dropped mine either. So I think it's gonna be a manufacturer defect. Something is blocking the front camera. Again, I never dropped my phone, it doesn't have any scratches on the screen and any dents on its body.
I went to my network provider and ask for help about this issue. They sent me a replacement phone (Galaxy S5) after 3 days then I sent over to them the defective one. They said that it depends on the manufacturer/service tech if the phone defect is under warranty or not. I'm still waiting for them to check the phone. Or else I'm gonna be charge $175 out of warranty fee!
I'll attach pictures of my previous Galaxy S5. I hope this is not a widespread problem. Share your thoughts too! Thanks!
