[Q] External Wi-Fi USB adapter - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, guys! I've already posted this in Nexus 5 section but nobody answered. As far as I suppose that this question is not very device specific I've decided to ask it once again here.
I got Nexus 5 running vanilla AOSP Android 4.4.3 compiled by myself. It works like a charm. I would like to use external Wi-Fi USB adapter with my Nexus 5. I've tried to use AWUS036NHA (with Atheros AR92721 chip) and two other models from different vendors. Every time I get the same error.
So, what have I done? I've rebuilt kernel to add support for my devices (in usual Linux way) and added firmwares they need to /vendor/firmware. When I plug AWUS036NHA into my phone I get the following (dmesg):
Code:
<6>[ 1587.856305] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci-hcd

It seems to me that everything here is ok. But when I try to switch on the adapter (ifconfig wlan1 up) I get an error (dmesg):
Code:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan1: link is not ready
By the way, "ifconfig" command shows no error, but it doesn't swith my device on.
So, I got the same error with 3 different adapters. I got no idea about possible ways of solving this problem.
Please, share your ideas, I'm really stuck Looking forward for your help. And thanks in advance!

[Q] CDC ACM device

Hello everybody,
please my question is very simple.
Can I use CDC device (USB-SPI converter by Microchip) with GT7500?
The device uses CDC ACM drviers. When I plug in to my computer I see ttyACM0 is created in /dev/ folder.
If I connect device to GT7500 throw USB Adapter dmesg inform me about Device not supported (dmesg short report in bellow). But if I look to .config i see is CDC ACM driver is inculded.
If plug device to my second tabled WM8650 everything is OK. /dev/ttyACM0 is created and accessed from app.
Thanks for any answer.

[Q] Lindy usb-eth adapter 42974 on a Toshiba AC100

Hi,
I own a Toshiba AC100-10D italian 16GB version.
I bought a USB-Ethernet adapter 42974 from Lindy to connect my device to a wired LAN through ethernet.

The final question of course is:
How can I make the adapter to work and surf the net through ethernet connection?
Loading manually the module did the trick. Don't know why the first time didn't work.
Thanks for attention.

[Q] Modem resetting?

I am having a similar issue as discussed in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080956&page=3. I'm stock rooted, software version E97010o.
Does anyone else still experience this problem? Sometimes it happens with the phone sitting on my desk or when I'm traveling. I initially thought it was a poor hand off from "4G" and LTE, but I can seem to trigger it repeatedly when using Google Maps and having it try to lock on my position using GPS. Looking at the log, it says the modem is resetting but it's not giving a reason why. I copied the log while it was happening repeatedly.

It doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time when using Maps. Sometimes it recovers and lets me use Maps without an issue but other times the only way to fix it is to reboot. Thankfully the reboot time of this phone is quick, so it's not too much of a hassle. This seems like a software problem as mentioned in the thread I referenced earlier. To those that are using other ROMs, do you experience this issue?
Thanks for any insight.

No one can help me out with this? Can someone who is running another ROM please check if using Google Maps or any app that uses the GPS causes the modem to reset? I want to know what's the next steps I should take, be it flash a different ROM if no one experiences this or take the phone to at&t for an exchange.
Thanks.

[Q] XT910 external USB touchscreen support

I am wondering if it is possible to connect a USB egalax 4-wire touch screen to the XT910 and have it work? Using a USB OTG adapter, Y-splitter USB cable for external power, I have the following result from running dmesg

I'm running stock Android 4.1.2
I want to connect the phone via hdmi to the in-dash screen and have the touchscreen operate the phone so I can access GPS apps etc.
Cheers

[Q] MHL_WAKE_LOCK and no computer recognition

Hello everyone!
Few months ago, suddenly my i9300 stopped charging and was no more detected by my computer. I tried changing charger, usb cable, usb port, laptop and nothing works. Finally I managed to charge it but the battery drain is noticeable: around 30% doing nothing and with airplane mode enabled. Also it freezes if I spent too much time in recovery mode.
Yesterday I installed BBS and I found my phone is never going into deep sleep, is always awake and I also found "mhl_wake_lock" as guilty of this. Reading some tips, I used a nail to clean gently the microusb port (it was a little bit dirty teehee) and, just for a while, the phone was able to turn into deep sleep mode. I was so excited BUT charging stopped working . I cleaned the usb port again with alcohol and now charges again, but guess what? No more deep sleep.
My theory is that some pins are damaged and it gets stuck like MHL mode is enabled. Before all these problems, there were no battery drain, during night it only used around 10%.
Is there any way to disable/kill this MHL driver o process or whatever it is without changing the microusb port?
I'm using CM12 unofficial Weekly 6.
Here's an extract of dmesg output
