I've been reading about the core apps in development and have some questions about the Email Client (which I understand is a port of Trojita).
In reading about Trojita itself, it is exclusively an IMAP client. The developer's page s clear that it ISN'T a POP3 client. I know that my situation isn't unique, and my situation is this:
* 5 email accounts that I need to use POP3 for
* 1 email account that I need to use IMAP for
So what will be the solution for those who want to aggregate all their email accounts into one app, when they aren't all IMAP accounts?
Thanks,
Steve

Gmail is available and I believe it can consolidate POP3 and IMAP accounts at the server level. You could setup a separate Gmail account just to do that.

That's right. Trojita only supports IMAP. (Btw, if you want to give it a try, download Dekko from the Ubuntu Store which is a development snapshot of one of the developers. Trojita itself isn't available throught the store yet.)

does this program do auto sync with exchange and gmail, and if yes, how do i set it yes (its not on the list of folder poll check frequnncy)
thanks for the help.
if anyone can think of an email client that can auto sync gmail and exchange, and has a desktop widget that works with it, please share
thank you
Does not do exchange ActiveSync. This would be the holy grail of email apps if it did ActiveSync.

IMAP has Push and Poll, POP only has Poll, not sure about Exchange. K9 does exchange, I assume if there's no options it defaults to Push but you might ask them in their own forums.
Widget, no..
Hello guys,
I installed K9 on my Android ICS on i9100, setup an Yahoo account and didn't found any way to make it Push my email, on Pull/poll at specified intervals (1, 5 ,10min, etc).
I'm looking under Account Settings/Fetching email and the only setting related is "Folder poll frequency".
Am I doing something wrong because the k9 Market page says "K-9 Mail is an open-source e-mail client with search, IMAP push email, multi-folder sync, flagging, filing, signatures, bcc-self, PGP, mail on SD & more!"
My yahoo account has an IMAP server setup, not POP so we can exclude this incompatibility.
As a default behavior, k9 only doesn't have a polling interval setup, I have to manually check for new email.
So, does Push email works on k9 email client?
I've had IMAP push working on K9, although not with a Yahoo email account.
IMAP Push relies on the IMAP server you connect to support the IDLE extension. AOL Mail does, gmail does, but Yahoo does not.
I have a situation where I have to setup my phone to sync with 2 exchange accounts that both use the same email address and same user name but different internal domain.
When I set up the first account it all looks good operates as expected, when I setup the second account it seems to merge the 2 active sync accounts into 1 as there is still only one 1 account listed on the phone but I do get syncing from both sites which is what I want for email at least.
The problem is syncing contacts and calendar events. The phone syncs with both accounts at different times and contacts appear and disappear all the time. Because the 2 accounts appear as 1 I cannot separate out the settings to stop syncing with 1 of the accounts for contacts and calendar events and leave 1 as the main sync account. When entering contacts you never know which exchange server the info will end up on.
How can I separate out these accounts? Why is android treating them as the one sync account?

What you can do is create one account with Microsoft Active Exchange and the other by Exchange. I have the same account configured by these 2 works individually one for default Email app and another for Enhanced Email App. I had to do this cause of some issues with activesync with MS Exchange Server 2010 which my company runs. Do try it out and tell me what happened

When you click on add account in settings-> accounts and sync there is am option for both exchange and active exchange. Exchange is the native settings from froyo times active exchange is the one introduced in ginger bread. Both use delegate drivers and are hence independent of each other. You can configure the same account via both these settings and it works fine.

I would like to trial this with the emulator I have setup. It is running Android 2.3.3 but I seem to only have the active sync option.
Any way to emulate this before putting into production?

You could use a mailing app which uses Exchange drivers. Enhanced Email is one that i know of and am using.
IMAP?
You could also set up the second exchange account as only an IMAP connection, only syncing mail, not contacts, calendar or tasks. Use primary account for that.

Hi all,
I can't really believe that there is no email app for android that allows simple and easy copy (move) of emails between two IMAP accounts ?? On the iphone that's a built-in feature. I tried all ROMs here and it seems they all use the AOSP email.apk which does not support moving across accounts, only to and fom folders within the same account.
EXAMPLE:
I have one personal and one business account, both on the same IMAP server but with different email addresses and credentials, obviously. So now I get an email in my personal inbox that I want to "sort" into a subfolder of the business account.
Which email client can do that? I tried pretty much every single email app in the play store, not even the goot ones like Kaiten, Maildroid or Inomail can do it
What now? I can't believe my iPhone->Android transition is being held up by something this basic ?!
Wow, no one has this problem? Is it just so uncommon to have two IMAP accounts?

Yes I know that's a bootleg workaround but I need "real" imap access, so I can move messages from one account to the other.

I need to transfer email between Exchange and IMAP. I'm assuming I'm going to have the same problem you are? So I shouldn't waste my time downloading all the email apps on the Market to try them?
Shocking that no email client on Android can do what the iPhone 3GS could do in 2010

Well, it can be done. And I did it back in 2010 when I had my captivate and moved from yahoo imap to gmail. I am not positive about this, but I think I used K9.
I had the paid imap on yahoo, added both accounts to the client I was using. I tried several before I got it to work. I believe it was K9 because I also used PGP for encryption.
It is free, so give it a try. I apologize for not being 100% positive. I'm now retired and just use good ole Gmail

I am facing the same problem using K9. I can not see imap folders other than the same account I am copying from. Any other app solving this problem or the settings to do it with K9?

I have had this problem for years. It is actually one of the main reasons why I keep a laptop

I have the same problem and can't believe after all these years there is no solution! This is the biggest obstacle I have to being productive on my smartphone. Still no solution?
Hello guys,
I have a common quesiton about synchronising my gmail and Exchange (work) account with my HTC Desire HD Android Version 2.3.5
At the moment I synchronise my gmail accoutn with mail, calender, tasks and phone directory.
For future use I want to synchronise with Exchange from work, even the same functions like gmail.
For gmail I use the given gmail-mail program which is implemented with Android.
For Exchange I'd like to use the "Mail" function which is also a standard tool from Android.
My question:
1. I've seen that there is the possibility to show or not show different calenders, phone books etc. When I creat the Exchange additionally to the gmail account, is there a complete new calender built with the Exchange rules or does it use my gmail calender? The same for phone directory.
I want to avoid that the two accounts will be fully mashed in the future. So, if I quit my workplace I want to delete the Exchange account and all work information will be lost but not my personal gmail account, settings and personal data like calender, phone directory etc.
2. Is the Exchange completely separated to the gmail account?
I'm a littel bit frightend to configure the Exchange accoutn because I don' want to mix up the two accounts.
I hope I wrote it in a understandable way and not redundant to an existing article.
Thanks a lot and regards
The email app and the gmail app are different, are independent one of the other. You'll have no problem, nor with the contacts.

Hi,
Just trying out Themer
The unread email count seems only able to use my gmail, which isn't my primary account. Are there any plans (or settings I'm missing) to get it to use the mail app instead where I have my pop3 and exchange accounts set up?

Hi, for now Themer only supports Gmail accounts. Adding in the rest of stock mail accounts as well as other 3rd party email accounts is an immense task, but the development will start working on it once we have more resources
