Downgrade radio - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am running stock 4.3 from here.
Before that I was trying out stock 4.4.2 from here.
4.3 seems to be running well but I still have the ND7 radio. I know this shouldn't necessarily be a problem, but I would like to try the MJ9 radio and see if my battery life improves.
To downgrade the radio from ND7 to MJ9, is it simply a matter of flashing VRUEMJ9_radio.zip in recovery?
Or are there any other additional steps I should take, such as "format /modem" or something similiar in Philz?
I would appreciate any input on this.

Rootabaga, I can't help you with your situation however am having an issue with my signal being intermittent, especially when I set up a hot spot. Could someone tell me what's a better radio to use than MJ9 or is there a better means to fix this issue...?

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks

Yes just flash the zip in twrp or CWM. FYI your battery life isn't going to get better by doing this.

In my experience, only way to go from ND7 baseband to MJ9 baseband is to flash the MJ9 firmware( rooted/unlocked) using ODIN. Trying flash the MJ9 baseband zip in recovery did not work for me.

Thanks for replying. You're probably right about the battery life. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part. Now that I've had ND7 for a few weeks, battery life seems to be more like it used to be.

Thanks. I already flashed the MJ9 firmware when I first went from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2. Are you saying I would need to flash the firmware again?

The main reason I now want to try it is because browsing the net on any browser over WIFI has gotten almost impossible with ND7. 4G is fine. I'm not sure if it is because of ND7 but I thought it might be worth a try.

[Q] Question about the ME7 Baseband

Hi all,
Before I get yelled at, the search feature isnt working currently on XDA, so my apologies for something that has probably been asked multiple times.
I'm looking for 'that' ROM, you know, a daily driver, and I haven't come across one that I like just yet. Some of this has to do with my signal strength (I know TW will always have a better signal than AOSP). I'm still on the MDK baseband version. My first question is will an upgrade to ME7 make a noticeable difference? If yes, where and how do I go about flashing it? On my S3 I was able to just flash a zip with the new radios, but I understand now ODIN is necessary.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

What rom are you on now? The reason I'm asking is because if your on stock you might as well flash something like Darkslide which is stock minus some bloat and includes the ME7 baseband. ME7 is in my opinion better but nothing drastic.

Currently I'm on an AOKP build, but I'm planning on flashing Beanstown's ROM. It says right in his description that he recommends the ME7 radio with his ROM. Not sure if flashing it would just give me the baseband.

He updated that in release 6 so just flashing the rom will update your baseband. Picture in picture and smart scroll will not work on the stock kernel....if you use them you will need to flash a kernel that supports it.

MJ9 firmware on 4.4.x ROM's?

Edited: problem solved. See my last post to the solution I found.
I don't know if it works in Odin cause I haven't tried it, but there is a link somewhere in the Skynote port ROM thread that has the modem as a zip flashable in recovery. It DOES work as I am on MJ9 on Paranoid Android 4.4.2.

Well from "Krowley3's" Sophisticated ROM thread, you can flash it via ODIN with this file: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319198557

No problem. Try flashing it then. I'm sure it should work.
Well I ended up flashing the file...the first time was through TWRP and it didnt change anything. The next time I tried through ODIN and it gave me an "unknown baseband" that a lot of people are reporting. I ended up with no data, had to flash back to stock and start all over again using vramc3.
Numzi, how did you get it working on your phone?
I'm running the new firmware with CM11. I flashed it in cwm and it works fine

For anyone reading this thread and had trouble like me with the modem, try flashing this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48640/android/VRUEMJ9_zif.zip

[Q] KitKat Roms WiFi Issue

Okay so I recently decided to to upgrade to the 4.4.2 KitKat root through this video http://youtu.be/AIRoQKTLeJQ and I was running the stock deodexed rom that was provided. I then looked up some compatible custom roms and came across several that were supposedly compatible with NC5 and Safestrap 3.72. However, on most of them (Echoe Rom, Bajarom, Phoenix Rom, etc) the wifi does not turn on even after rebooting. Bajarom it would work (it would take FOREVER to turn on though) until after I restored my nandroid backup (just data) from before I upgraded to 4.4.2 via the video. Then the wifi function would stop... Echoe Rom and Phoenix Rom both had a Galaxy S5 port that had S5 apps, themes, etc. These ones wouldn't have any network access at all. WiFi and 4G would not work. I would still have a signal so I could send texts and call people. I tried flashing modules and modems and NC5 fixes but nothing would work... Does anybody know how to fix this WiFi problem?? Or does anybody know of a good, clean, custom TouchWiz rom that has working wifi? This would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Did you flash modules after rom? That's the only way your wifi is going to work.
Check out giglies NC2 wifi fix and see if that helps: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23487008491963696

Is it safe to flash a custom rom like CM11? I upgraded my phone to 4.4.2 NC5 through ODIN, then did the Towel root and flashed Safestrap.

You could try flashing that wifi fix, which will set your modem as NC2. Then flash the NC5 modem and you'll have the NC5 baseband and working wifi (this is what I do for Hyperdrive).

[Kernel] Stock NH7

This is a recovery flashable, stock boot.img, pulled from freeza's stock rooted rom, located here. It's completely unchanged from stock, I just made it flashable. After flashing, You may, or may not have to modify your build.prop to set secure storage to "false." See freeza's thread here, for more info on this.
Use this at your own risk, I assume no responsibility.

Numerous, for example, it will allow you to return to the stock kernel, for troubleshooting purposes, if you expect an incompatibility, or issue with a custom kernel, without having to flash an entire stock rooted rom, or downloading an entire rom, just for the boot image.
By the way I want to thank you for this its a blessing we have ppl who do this for us with that said im a noob should I flash this I have the nh7 modem I flashed the nh7 stockish rom then I restored my backup for sacs moar rom

Can you provide more info. If you were in a bootloop, how did you set the file to false? Did you flash the fix, in freeza's OP? If so, that's likely the problem. That build.prop is for a previous version.
I did flash the fix. How else can I get the new modem flashed without bootlooping? My modem/baseband is NH7. Just can get the NH7 stock kernel on without looping

That's the problem. That fix is fo MJ4. Also, what rom are you on? I'm not sure if the NH7 kernel, is compatible with NC5 roms. I know for a fact, NC5 kernels, are incompatible with NH7 roms (no display).
Your best bet is to Odin the NC7 tar, if you want all NC7, or Odin NC7, and restore your TWRP backup, of your previous rom. Your baseband, will be NH7, but your kernel will be whatever was included in your previous/preferred rom.
I'm on sacs rom. My baseband/modem is currently NH7 and have no problems

Noob- Flashing Rom for 1st time (i545 NK1)

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to flash my Verizon S4 i545 for the first time. I have the NK1 Build on it. So far, I've rooted it with towel root and have safestrap 3.75 installed.
From doing my research it seems that having the NK1 build prevents me from flashing some roms such as CM11. All I really want from my s4 (had it since launch) is to have the best performance and battery life possible. I'm not looking to do anything fancy beyond that. From some online reading, it seems Hyperdrive might be the best rom for my needs.
How can I go about installing the Hyperdrive rom? (which version should I look out for considering I have NK1)
What precautions should I take before attempting to install?
What other custom roms can I install onto my S4 NK1 build?
Thank you in advance!
I hace the same thing, and muy SE is enforcing. I dont know if that is important.

Honestly, you should downgrade back to nc5 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 You won't be able to install any CM or AOSP rom since you're not on mdk. Hyperdrive is a good rom. Echoerom and Eclipse are solid as well. They're also based on nc5 and you'll likely not have too many problems if you downgrade back.

If you use the full wipe nc5, it shouldn't be buggy. It's like having a clean slate. For myself, I've always had better success from nc5 than nk1.

thanks. So would it be an accurate statement that at this point in time, unless someone just wants a stock rooted nk1, there's really no point in rooting an nk1 because you just need to downgrade to nc5 anyway, and then re-root again, in order to flash any custom roms; And you do not need root to downgrade via Odin, correct?

For me it's just preference. Most roms are nc5 based. There are modules and fixes out for those on nk1, but for me, I have always had issues with it. Downgrading to nc5 eliminated the problems. You still need to flash modules and wifi fixes, but I find it to be far more stable. No, you don't need to be rooted to use Odin. If you do plan on downgrading, I would suggest the full wipe. Some have experienced issues with the non wipe. Hope all this helps.

We can't flash cm or any aosp roms. Our phones are locked down. There might be 1 or 2 GPE roms that will work with some tweaking. Other than that, we are stuck with TW based roms

Yeah i noticed that lol, at least i've been learning a lot of things about how to flash, odin, the bootloaer, the roms, firmware etc. I managed to install hyperrom's last version and it's pretty decent. Fcuk Verizon btw
You can use SuperNexus ROM. It works with safestrap. You can also use Kitpop ROM.
