Hey everybody!
I had a Xperia ZL phone but sadly it just died about week ago but before it died I made a phone backup using PC Companion. Yesterday I bought a Z2 so my question is can I restore my ZL backup on my Z2?

no! never restore backup across 2 different devices, it will cause a brick
i know that 4.4.2 for xperias is alot alike each other, this makes alot of mods work across all xperias,
i recomend you only try this if you know how to unbrick a device and/or very familiar with flashtool
try restoring the backup BUT DATA ONLY
Yeah I'm not really familiar with flashtool and I don't really want to brick my phone. Will it be ok if I just restore the data only? Will this brick my phone or cause me any other issues? The only thing I really care about is my contacts information. I can just re download my apps and my photos were on the external sd card.

like i said try only if you know how to fix , you cant restore system or cache but data partition may work, i dont recomend trying
try finding a used zl and restore to that, your internal storage will not be restored but this depends on how you backed up

Nope,no way to recover it except you accidentally delete it manually, recover it back using Recuva...
Try to use Recuva to check deleted file, who know you might found it and recover it back

been there done that buddy.
just remember, everytime you update a new rom or flash a new rom, always make a backup of your apps using titanium backup recommended (need root) because it said it will wipe phone memory data which means it will delete your google market account therefore, your downloaded apps will be lost.
nothing we can do here

Recuva can't access Android root at all.
To Izzy - That's the problem with trying to root .62/.69 via downgrading method
Ok, thanks for help
so i got the s3 two nights ago (eep!:highfive
and i want to transfer all my game data (ie, saves) over from my Desire Z.
contacts, sms, photos etc arent a problem.
its just the games! well, not just any games, the kairosoft ones. i dont want too lose all my hard work on those little things!!
anyone able to help?
neither device is rooted
Desire Z is running 2.3.3 (stock)
S3 is running 4.0.4
i tried using a program via pc called "wondershare mobilego for android" but it didnt transfer the saved games. same with "moborobo" (it has the option, but only for rooted devices!)
i also tried transferring via sd card, and that didnt work either D=
i was told mybackup pro would work - fail
i've seen many people suggest titanium backup in my searches - however i have heard that it will only back up game data if the device is rooted
i am happy to root the s3 if needed to install the data (providing i can find a simple guide XD - i like to think i am pretty tech savvy, but this is just something i havent done yet!)
i've searched for hours already and from my understanding, both (?) devices have to be rooted.
however, i have seen (unless i misunderstood) that if i root my Desire Z to do the backup, i will lose my data anyway (before i backup that is).
is this true? or am i understanding this wrong?
p.s sorry if i posted in the wrong forum. wasn't sure which one :/
You have to root.
Root Desire, install TiBackup, backup any apps you need.
Root S3, install TiBackup, tranfer microSD from Desire to S3 (in which the backups are on) and restore through TiBackup.
Simplest way I know of, and you don't lose data from rooting.

according to (sorry cant post links yet)

and

i will lose my data
or am i missing something?
[sorry, new to the whole rooting/flashing etc so trying to figure it all out ]
Titanium backup usually backups your apps to the external sd card. Anything on there is safe from rooting or fully wiping in recovery. Installing custom roms on it will not delete anything on it.
If you want to be extra safe, I would copy the titanium backup folder from your external sd card to your computer, so you have another copy of it in case something happens.

Thanks for clarifying
However it is my understanding that you need to root your phone in order for Titanium to be able to back up your game saves
So. My question is... does rooting cause you too lose data because that would defeat the purpose for me
No rooting will not cause loss of data.

All Rooting does is modify a few system files and if you didn't know it was Rooted you'd never notice the difference, and to put it simply everyone who's scared to Root can end up losing years worth of data when they get their new phone so you have to balance the tiny negatives with the huge positives.

ok, so to recap...
(sorry guys, just want to make sure i've got it straight in my head before i do anything!! i'm not ignorant, i swear )
i can root my desire z using this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
(can someone confirm if i need to downgrade my firmware? across various tuts i've read they all say something different - or nothing at all! currently running 2.3.3)
install Titanium Backup and backup all my game saves
THEN
root my S3 (still need to google an easy to understand method, but if you know a simple one let me know )
install Titanium and restore my game saves :fingers-crossed:
AND in this process, i won't lose my data?
NOTE: neither device has and ANY modification, both are completely stock at this point in time.
p.s i had someone mention to me that i need to unlock my bootloader to root the device, and unlocking the bootloader will cause data loss. is this true?
Anyone able to confirm above post???
Would really like to get my games transferred if it's possible

Hi everyone,
I just got my new C6833 to which I upgdraded from my Galaxy Note. I have a small number of apps (incl. app data) that I want to move from my old phone to the new one. I have root on my Note, but not too keen to root my Z Ultra yet (dodgy chinese software??) so Titanium backup is out of the question. I have been reading up about Helium for backing up and restoring apps and data which doesn't need root, but apparently there are problems with the Xperia Z.... has anyone used Helium with the Z Ultra?? Does it work or have the same problems as the Z?
Regards
F.
I used Helium to transfer all app data from my HTC to Z Ultra (before I got root)
It works fine.
Also, nowadays, with one-click root, really, there is nothing to worry about.
There is nothing dodgy about Vroot as far as most people here on XDA can tell.
Thanks for the reply.
One click root not working for Z Ultra yet is it? I don't want to mess up any of the TA partition either etc... so will wait for a simple proven root method and then backup TA partition. Guess it might take some time though.

One click root doesn't affect your boot loader, which is where your TA back up comes in. Mine is still locked
Hello!
Can anyone give me any hints on what is the best option to transfer my data?
I usually have always used TiBackup because i went from rooted phone to rooted phone.
The Z1C is BL unlock and rooted Kitkat Version 14.3.A.0.757. I have played around with Backup and restore and for some reason it fails to make a backup on the Z1C for me although there is enough space in both internal and SD card. It just fails, maybe due to root.
Then I installed PC Companion and tried to backup from there to no avail. It keeps bugging me to update the old phone. Maybe this is why that fails.
Then I tried the direct Transfer Option (phone to phone) which seems to get as far as the phones connection. Then the receiving phone (Z3c) goes into a loop as it supposedly looking for content on the Z1C to select and transfer. This takes ages, so I believe it might fail, although I am still waiting for it.
Is there any program that is capable of creating a backup file on a rooted phone which is completely installable on a non-rooter? Including data and settings etc.?
Has anyone handled this issue before?
I am scared to try and just update the Z1C as the Companion keeps suggesting for losing root on that phone would suck and I am not sure how hard it is to get that back...
I tried adb backup.
It worked reasonably but some issues..
No comparison to titanium backup..

i had good experience using Helium when i transfered my apps&data from my old phone to the z5c. I bought the full version since direct transfers between the devices seemed to very convenient thing for me.
hi everyone,
well i have 2 Xperia Z5 Compact, the one I use now I will sell to my friend, and the other I will start to use. how can I clone or transfer or do like in windows image ghost all the system+ data to the other Z5 compact before I sell?
is it possible to clone/copy/transfer/flash everything in my current Z5 Compact to the new one?
Both of them are the same variant E5823
if yes, how can I do that please?
any suggestion will be so much appreciated!
thank you all
There app called xperia transfer. Maybe that can help you
Xperia transfer was made for this. If it doesn't get everything there are non root backup apps as well.

It's called nandroid backup in Android world, you can swap the current state of your device between other devices and back again. I keep daily backups in the cloud

Yup, that's why we suggested the xperia transfer. There's no need to transfer system files back and forth. I don't remember the non root backup apps but there are a lot of popular ones similar to titanium back up
