Hey I just recently purchased a GOOGLE PLAY EDITION SONY XPERIA Z ULTRA
i was wondering if someone could post links and steps, briefly, of how to root this device. also what rome would i be able to flash once i root the device?
I looked around but couldn't really figure out what is necessary

Almost all you need to know http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2742236
TA is the trim area, and a backup is needed if you ever need to get it back to 'how you brought it', it contains DRM keys amongst other things

The easiest way imho is vroot.
Search xda for it, there are threads about it.
You will need a windows computer to run vroot on.
Good luck.
Hi all, I drunkly ran into the sea with my Nexus 5 in my pocket so that is long gone.
Next week I'm thinking about investing in an xperia z ultra, however I have seen and heard of many of the methods used to root it will capture your IMEI number and use it for malicious reasons.
I was looking at following this guide (presuming my phone software/firmware will even be compatible) and just want to clarify it works fine with no danger.

This is the link to the phone I'm looking at buying

If I cannot root the phone, I will not be buying it as adblock is a must for me, and if xposed works then I'll be delighted also.
Can someone please help clear up my confusion?
Thanks!

That would work, or there is a dual recovery installer(CWM and TWRP)that you could use if you want recovery. Whichever you use let the phone update to .108 firmware then run it, if you unlock your bootloader be sure to back up your TA partition beforehand.

As the ever helpful @adfurgerson said. EasyRoot is the best tool or [NUT]'s recovery installer. They both use the same exploit.
Any other questions just ask, after searching
Thanks guys :fingers-crossed:
For me the easiest one I use is the Dual Recovery installation files. It has an option to root and install dual recovery all in one.
I used Flashtool for rooting, few clicks and done.
Then i flashed dualrecovery and GPe ROM :good:
Hi, everyone.
I'm a noob and I'm curious about TA and DRM.
Is backup needed when the warranty is no longer available? Honestly I don't really care about it because I never backup TA on my previous phone (XM4a and miro), but now I'm afriad the services on my Z5c is not working.
Because many xperia users got problem in camera app and sound especially Z series.
I've searched on google but I can not find the answer, so please give me light .
Thanks :highfive: .
HI,
Z4 tablet WIFI, 7.1.1, 32.4.A.1.54
I would like to install LineageOS. It's pretty hard (for me) to find
reliable information how to save TA partition for above android
version, so I asked myself should I care?
What functionality exactly I would lose?
I do not use the camera at all. I use tablet to browse net, YT etc.
One important thing is that I watch movies a lot from SD card.
So should I care about TA partition?
thanks in advance!
some links and advice in my [Guide]

Hello all,
I need help rooting an old tablet z that i have. Im trying to root before unlocking the bootloader so i can backup my TA.
Mostly my problem is that all the tutorials/guides i either have broken links or they have something that doesnt work.
I have the wifi only version POLLUX_WINDY. And its running android 5.1.1, with build number 10.7.A.0.228
Is it possible for someone to help me with rooting so i can backup my TA for now?
Thank you very much.
Well after some lucky search and thanks to google translate is was able to find older versions of sony stock firmwares. I leave the link in here in case it can help someone: https://4pda-to.translate.goog/foru...uto&_x_tr_tl=pt&_x_tr_hl=pt-PT&_x_tr_pto=wapp
After going back in OS version i backed TA, and followed a guide to unlock and root the tablet.
