[Q] Battery fail? Cant start up! - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Yesterday I damaged the phone with water, after that I removed the black glass panel and tried to dry it with hairdryer. I also put it in a plate with rice and let it drain the water overnight. Today I tried to wake it up:
When I plug in the charger, the phone automatically turns on. It only shows the logo and the battery status, but after that it turns off. If I push the power button, the phone vibrates 3 times and the whole thing repeats - it shows logo, battery status, then it turns off. Battery seems Charged, but it looks like phone cant find it, because If I unplug the charger and try to turn the phone on, it does nothing, like the battery is dead.
Is this issue common to all water damaged phones? Do I need to buy new battery or just wait more days? :/
I also recorded a video about the whole thing, please take a look.

I would try leaving it a couple more days to ensure it is dry then try again. But charge it first before trying again.

HELP Today my phone ran out of batterys

Now when I plug it into the charger, it just goes to the Core Cell splash screen, for like a split second then turns off, then does it repeatedly... I donnu, how to charge my phone, I donnu what to do, please help.
Pull the battery, connect power then put battery back in. This should let it start charging without trying to start the phone.

I tried that, but as soon as i put the battery back in, it'll just restart, I fixed the issue last night, I chucked my Battery into the Freezer, for like... more than 8 hours, woke up, and plugged my phone back together, and it charged, without booting up and restart
So all good

[Q] Battery showing empty when it is fully charged

Hi,
My phone took a quick swim, so I pulled it out of the bath took the battery out as quick as I could. I then took the phone apart to help the drying process.....all good
Let it dry for two days and put it back together......Now the problem
Basically the phone boots up but says the battery is empty and I get the critical batt level message and after 20 seconds it shuts down...during the 20 or so seconds the phone works normally. When I pull in my charger (with the phone off) I get the 100% battery icon but am unable to turn the phone on. If I plug the charger in as the phone is booting, I get the charging icon in the top right......but it still shuts itself down.
When it shuts down it is with the Galaxy sII splash screen....not a straight shut down like it has absolutely no power
To me this looks like a software problem - but was wondering if any of you guys could help
Thanks in advance

Try with another battery?
.....forgot to add that I have tested the battery in another phone and all is ok - and have tried a known working battery in my phone......same with either battery so I can rule that out

[Q] Rezound Bricked?

My Rezound is broken
I unlocked and de-sensed it, but that was when the unlock first came out and it's been working fine since, so I don't thing that's the problem.
The phone won't come on, and when I plug it in the charge light doesn't even come on. If I leave it plugged in, then take the battery out and put it back in the charge light comes on for a few seconds, then turns off.
I was at a new years party the night before and I may have laid down on top of it while it was in my pocket, but the water sensors are fine, and I don't remember it ever getting wet.
I notice there are a lot of connections between the phone and the back cover. Is it possible that something could be bent and these connections aren't being made, so the phone refuses to do anything? I tried putting wires across them where they would normally be connected, but it didn't seem to help.
So what do you guys think? Is there something else I can try? I guess if it's totally broken then they can't tell that it's unlocked, so I could try getting a replacement :/
First off, I wouldn't have put any wire across any of the antenna leads like that. Second, if the phone is not coming on with the cover off then you may have another problem. The phone should turn on without the cover. You just wouldn't have signal.
My opinion, try another batter if you know anyone who has one. Or maybe go to your VZW store and see if they will let you use one of theirs. If the battery/phone is too hot the LED will blink orange, once it is cool enough, or full enough to turn on/charge again it will become solid. The fact you get an indication when there is no battery leads me to believe there may be a problem with the battery itself.
with the phone off, pull the battery for several minutes. Then put it back in and plug it in to the charger. Do not try and turn the phone on. If the charge light comes on and stays on, just let it charge for a few hours until it turns green.
I've read of rezounds dying from the battery going completely out. Screws it up somehow. Verizon also has thunderbolt external chargers for 5 bucks. You could use that to charge the battery (it fits), then try and turn it on. If it still won't turn on after charging, put the battery in and try and boot into the bootloader menu (power on and vol down at the same time), from there you can restore your nandroid or flash another ROM if it will boot to it.
I tried leaving the battery out for a few minutes, and then for the rest of the day. No dice in either case. I'll try to get an external charger tomorrow :/
Thanks for the ideas, I'll let you know how it goes.
Mine died overnight. Same symptoms, charging light for a few seconds then nothing. I plugged it in, let it sit for a while (didn't time it, but not more than 15 minutes). Unplugged it, then: held power, volume up and volume down all at the same time. It booted up, as soon as the screen came on, I plugged it back into the charger. Running fine now. Hope this helps someone else.
Went to Verizon today. I bought another battery and ordered an external charger. Swapped in the new battery and the phone started right up
Now I just hope I didn't screw anything up messing with the antenna contacts :/

After getting the new battery, does the orange LED come on while charging the phone when powered off? I replaced my battery after having the same problem and now the orange light does not stay on while the phone is charging when it is powered off. I guess it's no big deal, but it bothers me.

Yeah, it still works just fine. I turned it off just now and then plugged it in to check and the charging light came on immediately.
Maybe the battery is faulty or you got a thunderbolt battery by mistake and the phone is confused? Otherwise I have no clue why that would happen :/
I have them same problem. My phone is completely dead, won't turn on and a orange light comes on for 3 seconds and goes away and nothing happens. What do I need to do?
Sounds like your battery died. Pull the battery and let it sit for a few, then try to boot it back up and plug it in immediately.
I was reading a thread about this last night on RootzWiki. Dude did a lot of testing, came to find out it was ClockWorkMOD keeping a completely dead battery from charging at all. Is that the recovery you have? If so, I would put AmonRa on, try that.
Agreed, almost definitely a dead battery. You can try this:
1) Take out the battery and put it back in
2) Hold down power and volume down to enter the bootloader
3) Immediately plug the phone in and leave it there for 10 minutes or so
4) Reboot the phone now that you have enough power to make it through booting
This should work as long as your battery is completely dead.
My suggestion for the future though is to buy an external charger and a second battery. That's what I did, and now any time I accidentally let my battery die I just swap it out and I'm good to go at 100% while the other one recharges. Also an external charger is the easiest way to fix this if your battery is too dead for the above method.

Also, remember that if you are using Clockwork Recovery for some reason that makes the phone not charge when its powered down. I had the similar issue where i couldnt get it to charge or come on at all, i put in a battery from my TBolt and it turned right on, switched Recovery to Amon Ra (Blue one, not the Red one) and from there it charged no problem!
worked...

this worked for me! thank you!! also to come to think of it, the problem happened after installing clockworkmod recovery. so there certainly seems to be a connection

This absolutely helped me! I'm really liking this Rezound I picked up but the damn thing is also just very temperamental in general. Still a fantastic underrated device overall though.
My wifes d2g did that once. I ended up taking an old charger, stripping the ends off and taping it to the contacts on the battery for 30 minutes. It charged it up and after that it would charge thru the phone again. A lot cheaper than a new battery.

Galaxy SII showing charging screen when trying to boot, unplugged from charger.

The phone is unrooted. And as the title says, whenever I try to boot the phone it goes to the charging screen. The phone is unplugged, though.
Then the following happens: it loads the battery data, battery is shown how charged it is, the dots at the bottom turn on and off one after another, at the 3rd dot, the phone turns off. Repeat.
The only way of turning my phone on is trying to put the charger in and hope to god it recognizes it, really charging it and thus making me able to boot up. Or I've to push Volume Down + Home + Power and then cancel (making the phone restart itself), which does boot up the phone correctly for some reason.
I've turned battery percentage on in the statusbar at the top of the phone, and sometimes it keeps saying unplug the charger when at 100%, so I do and it keeps saying that for 15-30 minutes after. Then I try to restart the phone (not turn off and on) and then the battery dropped to 60-80%?
Finally, when the battery is "fully charged" the screen is flickering until I pull the charger out.
What I've tried so far: rebooting, turning it off and on, pulling the battery out and putting it back in, trying a different battery.
What I'm still planning on doing: Restocking the phone through Odin, or bring it to a repair service but I would try to hold off to that.
Has anyone experienced this before and how do I fix it?

Yes, it looks like number 6 is my problem. I will thoroughly clean my phone when I'm back home. Question: the "USB PCB", is that the end of the charger you plug in the usb port?

PCB stands for "printed circuit board" so I think that he meant rather "USB PCB connector"

Ah right, that makes sense. I'm going to try this and will report back if it works.
Thanks, mate.
Alright, it didn't work. I've no idea what to try anymore.

Possible Irreversible Water Damage?

Water got into my phone(obviously) and I tried turning it on because of water resistance. It didn't respond. So I tried charging it. Tell my why the phone's battery screen flashed? NVM that, I tried the ol' bag full of rice trick. I left it there for about 12 hours. I tried again, and I got into recovery, but with a reddish tint. Well, I tried re-installing my ROM, hoping that it was an easily fixable issue. When the rom was installing, I unplugged my phone, instant power off. And my phone was at 100% before the install. I panicked, and knowing that I had to use my phone soon, I did probably the stupidest move ever, and put it on AN ELECTRIC HEATER. I left it there for 5 minutes, because that heater gets so hot that the air in my whole house is dry after ~30 minutes. Now sometimes when I turn it on, if the charger isn't in, the apps initialize, then power off, other times I get nothing. If I put the charger in, I sometimes get a white-ish triangle with a red thermometer(I'm guessing temperature warning?) and sometimes the battery flashes periodically. Please help, because of family health problems I need to be able to use my phone.
EDIT***: Phone WILL turn on now, condensation on both cameras, and battery temp too low to charge, so now there's a broken thermometer.

This phone is not water resitant. So trying to turn it on, before it dried completely was not that great of an idea. You could still have someone disassemble it, clean the board in alcohol and replace the battery. I think you just overheated the battery and you might have several shorts on your "mainboard". So please stop using it, until someone cleaned the board at least in some isopropanole or even better isoprop in an ultrasonic device. Dont just throw it in completely, but the "mainboard" only.
