Chargers and cords - G3 Accessories

Lets post all known chargers and cords that will charge the phone at high speed.
Cable: The 3 fastest charging cords I have found are the stock one (not the g2), kopi 2.1a, and PortaPow.
Chargers: The original 1.8a (g2 or G3) deliver the best results.
Car Chargers: Kopi kar charger (waiting to arrive).
New Trent home charger and car chargers do not charge at over 1A.
Media bridge cords (both charge only and charge/sync) get just barely over 1A.

Inconsistent Charging

Since I travel a lot, I prefer the detachable design of car chargers like this Satechi USB Car Charger and the
Palm Pre USB Charger. Although both of these chargers and many others that I have are rated at 1000+ mA, they all charge my phone very inconsistently. Sometimes while charging, my phone continues to drain when using GPS navigation and other times it just charges very, very slowly. However, the OEM Sprint charger usually produces better results even though it only puts out 850 mA. I've tested these chargers in different rental cars and the results are similar so I don't think it depends on the make and model of the car being used.
Any reason why the Sprint charger works better than all others?
Are you using a detachable USB car charger that always charges well while using GPS navigation? If so, which one?

I went straight to amazon.com and purchased several OEM Motorola Wall chargers and the rapid car charger. To me the "portable" chargers that you linked to are cool if you are a person who needs to charge different types of USB devices but our phone uses a standard microusb adapter so the Motorola Rapid Car Charger can be used for many devices. I recommend you get one: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA
I use this: http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/737964-duracell-no-tips-mini-usb-car-charger.html#.UI15iDgpCSw. Only cost $8 at staples and charges like you're not doing anything while using navigation

Yes, i have that one too but I'm trying to avoid using a charger with a spiral cord. For me, it doesn't pack as well as the detachable type.

Thank you, I couldn't find it at Staples but I did find it here at OfficeMax. Placing my order now...
Also, I found this review about a different product (which I'm also ordering) that explains the problem with Androids charging slowly with most car chargers. It looks like this charge only cable (which I'm also ordering) may allow all USB chargers to charge faster!

Comparison of charging currents (LG vs normal chargers)

This information might be out there already, but after noticing the LG charger works much faster at charging my G2 than a Nexus 7 charger, I did a quick test using CurrentWidget to record the charging currents for each setup to see if it's the special LG USB cable or the LG charger base / AC travel adaptor (or a combination of both) which is needed to enable the fast charging.
It's been mentioned here before that there are extra non-standard pins / contactors on the LG USB cable which presumably are used to deliver higher charging current, but it seems that there is nothing special about the LG charger base / AC travel adaptor which use these. Using a standard generic AC charger with a USB port on it is enough to charge the phone quickly as long as the LG cable is used. (and provided its rated for a current output >1.8A)
LG charger + LG cable ......... 1600mA
LG charger + standard cable .... 250mA
2A charger + standard cable .... 270mA
2A charger + LG cable ......... 1600mA
(Tested using D802 running Mahdi Rom 07/29)
well thanks for the info. it is good to know

Neither. I use a multi-USB charge station and a third party USB cable and get high speed charging on my G2.
A number of cables will work but it seems hit and miss. My Nexus 10 is just the same, but even worse. With the 'wrong' cable it can take 3 days to charge, even when off.
I use a Blackberry Playbook charger rated at 1.8A/5VDC, and according to GSAM it charges at up to 1500ma depending on battery level, about the same as the stock charger and seems to charge it just as fast... pretty cheap too, just over $5 shipped... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052F7ZWY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

8.4 Chargers

I recently bought a scoche dual port 21W(dual USB with 2.1 amps per) charger that I thought could charge my 8.4 but it doesn't even seem to recognize it's plugged in. Is this because it needs that extra .3 volts from the stock charger? And are there any multiport chargers capable of charging this tablet?
I have 4-port charger from "Volmate" that I got from Amazon. Works fine. I don't see that same unit any more but they have a 5-port that looks similar:
http://www.amazon.com/5-port-Family...=UTF8&qid=1415848997&sr=8-16&keywords=volmate
The tablet doesn't need the .3 extra volts, it can use a variety of chargers as long as they are 5V 2A, it can even charge hooked to a PC , though the current from a computer would most like just be enough to power the device and not actually charge it.
Not sure why the tablet wouldn't recognize the charger you hooked up, does the battery icon have a X through it?
My Tab Pro can be used with many different chargers which sustain 2A or higher.

It requires the D+ and D- pins shorted together with 1.2 V on them. Google "Charging your Smartphone from USB without fear" Sorry I can't post links.
I cracked open my car charger and changed out the resistors to 330k and 110k. It works now. The chargers that mention having a chip / IC like the Anker chargers with SMART IQ auto detects and works. The .3 V difference is to make up for the voltage drop of the cable, it isn't necessary but it lets it charge faster.

They're 33K (to +) and 10K (to -) resistors.
I made few of them so I can charge old type Tab and Note with iPad-like plug.
I'm not sure what this is all about... To charge my 8.4 I mostly use my 1.5A HTC One charger or an older LG 1A. On my boat I'm using a bog standard cigarette lighter USB charger with two 2A outlets (not more than 3A combined). I've never had any problems with any of these.
Why would I need one with shortened D+/D- pins (or do all chargers have this implemented?)

Quick Charge Works (kinda)

I got my phone today, and one of the first things that I did was test all of the Chargers.
My first thought is that the one plus cable that I bought is very high quality. Every charger that I tested, it charge faster than the cheapo ones that I bought on Amazon.
However, what I've been consistently surprised with is that using the same cable this phone charges faster on a Qualcomm quick charge 2 charger than it does on a standard USB charger. I've tested this with all sorts of Chargers around my house and I'm consistently seeing around 1500 when connected to a quick charger, and only a thousand when connected to a standard charger.
The USB C charger that came with the phone is significantly faster. However I wanted to share this so that for those others who bought all sorts of Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 Chargers, don't throw them out. They're still better than a regular charger.
Yeah on a good USB 3.1 cable (nice and thick) with my standard quickcharge charging block (7 ports, 60W total IIRC) I get 'charging rapidly' and it charges better than 1% a minute - about the same rate my N5 did on a much smaller battery. I've still not taken the google charger out of its box yet.. Need to get around to testing it even if I can't see myself using it.

I am curious as to what "standard" chargers you are using. I have a wall charger rated at 5v 2.1a (non-QC) per port and a car charger rated at 5v 2.4a (non-QC) per port, and both of those charge at 1500ma. Is it possible that your "standard" chargers are only rated for 5v 1a output?

Can anyone recommend a car charger with the right cable combination that would give the fastest charging?
NVM... I found one with reviews stating that it rapid charges their 6P.

Bought that one though still waiting on my phone. Like that it has micro USB too for other devices. Charges my HAM2 very fast.
Your results have nothing to do with them being QuickCharge bricks, I have a inline amp meter and I can get 1.5 on any brick with an amp rating high enough, not just my QC bricks that I was using with my Moto X. At least people will know if they have a QC brick they'll get at least that though.
I didn't know this thread existed. I'm getting what I think is pretty poor performance from the stock 6p charger. Please see this post:

Anker Astro1 charger not charging my H850

I have an Astro1 charger (2nd gen, rated at 2A), and have found that it will not charge my LG G5 phone (H850). The phone recognises it as a charging device when connected (I get a message in the notification tray saying that a USB charging device is connected), but I don't see the usual lightning bolt on the battery icon, indicating that it is charging. If I leave it connected the charge level of the phone remains constant – it never increases. I am using the charging cable supplied with the Anker charger, along with a Micro-USB to USB-C adapter. The adapter has been tested with my Anker desktop charger and it works fine.
Any idea why the Astro1 won't charge the G5?
Have you tried different usb cable? Also does the charger work on other devices?
I have successfully used non oem chargers/b micro cables on my h831 (should be same on h850 unless updates blocked it).
Right now its charging from a hard wired b micro 2.1a blackberry charger with b micro to c adaptor.
So yea test charger on another device, check cable/adaptor rule them out.

I've just tried 3 different cables. The 2nd one was the one supplied with another Anker charger - that didn't work either. However I then tried a third cable which I got from eBay, and that seems to charge fine. I'm surprised that the eBay cable seems to be more effective than the ones supplied by Anker
