Streaming live TV to a tablet - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good evening all,
I have been searching for an answer to this for a long time, I'm not 100% sure if this is the right section but any suggestions or help was massively appreciated.
I recently moved from the UK to Malta (sick of the cold and rainy weather) whilst I'm trying to earn a crust evening entertainment is a bit thin on the ground, whilst looking around a few shops I've noticed that android TV boxes are big here, they seem to offer live TV streaming directly from the internet, multiple countries and their respective channels (IE no TV tuner) my question is, can we get the same software on a tablet?
I've tried searching for a lot of things but all I seem to get is sites that either suggest you setup a server with a TV tuner to stream to a tablet or use geo-locked apps such as iplayer, hulu etc.
As i said, any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Archos Remote Control Ripped out yet?

I don't have an Archos but I have a Galaxy 10.1, Asus Transformer, and a Galaxy S phone. I have been trying to figure out how to strap the 10.1 to a headrest and remotely play movies for my son in the back seat and I'm hoping the Archos software would be the key.
Has anyone ripped the Remote Control Server APK from this rom to be used in other tablets/phones. The controller is on the market but the server side is not
Or if someone knows a way to do this that would be great. (Note: DLNA is nice but its a full PUSH and what I want to do is control the media already on the tablet, or use the Sprint 3g on the 10.1 to stream netflix.
I have tried Server VNC for droid, and it breaks on tablets.
Thanks for all your help!
Maybe someone with an Archos and another Android device can analyze what is sended by the other device to the Archos (Wireshark for example)

I am fairly sure this is not an APK, as sin not a simple app. it is a service baked into the system code of the ROM. This kinda of app is not overtly simple to add to android even IF you had all the source to the ROM, which no one does for HC yet.
The only problem is to know what is said on the network. After that, creating the app to communicate with it is "easy".
Am i to understand that you want to stream video to Archos from your Asus/Samsung ?
No, he wants to control his expensive Samsung 101 via a remote.
Something that comes included with any cheap Archos Gen8 ;-)
Expensive
Yes, its more expensive then the Archos but its 3g via Sprint. So I can stream, check email, watch IP cameras for restaurants that I am responsible for. But when traveling with the kids its nice to put in a headrest strap and control it.
Right now my son who is 3 will either tap the screen and freak out because the movie stopped playing, or if he is holding it he ends up stuck in some app. This will allow my wife or myself to start other movies, netflix streams, etc..
Headrest monitors for cars are not cheap (unless you get some really poor generic ones) and once the kids hit 5 years old they will not want to watch a linear movie, they would want to watch and interact with the web. (Humm or maybe I'm the biggest kid in the equation )
Right now I can DLNA push a video to the tablet using BubblePNP (Works great) but its annoying when my phone wifi sleeps or phone calls seem to mess with the connection. Remote control will keep each device truly separate. How many times I have walked out of the car to get gas out of range of the DLNA sharing is annoying.
Here you go...
I Hope this is what you are looking for...
Ripped out...Have Fun!
He doesn't need the remote, he needs the receiver for the Samsung.
I saw the words "remote" and "software" in the OP.
Yes, but he's searching the server side of the remote software ^^
Looks like the best way to get the Archos remote server app is to unpack Archo's firmware and take the server app out.
I found some linux tools that can do this, e.g. using aos-tools
However, my linux skill is only novice level at best, so I don't think I can unpack it successfully and find the remote server app.
Anyone happy to give it a try and share the file?
I see the instructions to unpack can be found here: http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php?title=The_aos-tools_Toolchain
I was looking for such app and Archos seems to the the only company which have a Android remote app right now... I am interested to install the remote server app on my Android phone or tablet and see if it works.
for control the tablet from an android phone you can use DroidMote Server / Client in the android market.

Help with livestream.com app

Hi All,
And my apologies if this is the incorrect forum for this.
I have a minix and one of the main things I wanted this for was to use the livestream.com app to watch the rugby league whilst I live overseas. Just to be clear this is a legal stream and official app available in the play store.
When I load the app onto my box it all loads fine and I can get to the channels, when I then click on a stream to watch, it just loads a still and the spinning loading icon just sits there. livestream have not offered any help for this or any reasons why. So I am kind of on my own trying to troubleshoot this desperately.
Interestingly if I view the streams through the android browser it works fine, but if I use Chrome I get the same issue as the stream tries to open in MX player and just spins.
Just wondering if any of you smart cookies can help me try to figure this out and get some kind of workaround?
Cheers
Dan

[Q] Solution for XMBC on Android TV

So my parents bought a Philips 48pfs8109/12 Smart TV (Android).
I want to set up something like Kodi so i can simplify the UI of the mediacenter we have, and to have them control the TV with the ipad.
I first looked at plex and tought i found the solution. So i bought a chrome cast and set everything up. The problem that occurred was that the video stutterd a lot because for some reason the streaming over wifi is not doing what is should do.
I do not think it is our internet speed since we have a decent connection and download and upload speed.
So since our TV is hooked up to the internet via Ethernet i wanted to use the TV as a receiver.
But the plex app kept asking for a PlexPass so that wasn't a solution either.
Then my eye caught XBMC or as it is called now Kodi but i cant find a way to set it up on my android tv.
I have rooted my tv, which i think means i can install unknown sources.
Maybe if i install the kodi android file on my tv. I will try that later today.
But if anyone knows a better way
PS: I also saw plexbmc and plexbmc helper which is nice because my parents like the plex ipad app.
Thanks in advance!
Install spmc from Google Play

[Q] Suggestions for a tablet media player?

Hey all, I don't know if General is the correct location for this question, but it's the most-correct I could find for the moment. I use a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (that's sadly on the fritz right now), and I haven't been able to find any media player for it since I got it that's set up for a tablet. The buttons are always small, the layouts are always off-center or just out of convenient reach, and they look absurdly stretched-out. I've tried searching Google and the app store for anything, but I can't seem to come across any decent "designed-for-tablet" players. Does such a thing exist? Does anyone know of one that provide large buttons and whatnot, despite not being designed for a tablet? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I've tried: Google Music, Rocket Player, Shuttle+, Phonograph, and Musixmatch so far.

[MiBox 3] Need Help Installing TV Apps

Hi all, just got the MiBox3 to replace my FireStick and I'm totally surprised as just how limited it is given that it's android....at least it seems limited to me, now I know that Android TV is pretty new and still finding it's way to some degrees but still I can't help feeling that buying a cheepo android box thats just running normal android with a remote friendly front end wouldn't have been a better use of the money.
Anyway, my issue is this, I want to install catch-up tv providers here in the UK, such as ITV Hub, iPlayer, 4oD, 5 On Demand and UKTVPlay.....but even after trying for the last 8hrs I still can't find a way to do it on this box, the Play Store as virtually nothing, side loading them results in them either crashing or heavily relying on a mouse and as much as I love Aptoide for most problems like this it's been no help either.
Since Fire TV (which is basically Android) has all of these apps and they all work in a TV environment with the use of remote rather then mouse, etc, I would have hoped that there would be a way to "port" the apps from the FireStick to the MiBox.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
