Hi,
According to Samsung (I called support) there is an auto sleep finction, where the Gear Fit will detect when i go to sleep and start monitoring my sleep without having to press the button to activate sleep mode.
According to Samsung support you press "Sleep" then scroll to the bottom and after blocking mode there should be an option to enable "Auto Sleep" but this option is not there.
They advised me to return my gear fit to the shop, which i did, i have repaired this with my phone and the option is still not there.
Can someone please tell me how to enable this feature, because this is a very irritating thing constantly having to tell the Gear Fit that im going to bed, and when I wake up!!!
Please can someone help me out!!
Many thanks.

I have lodged a complaint with Samsung and it is going to the developers.
This is one of the many links that documents this functionality
http://www.thewearablestuff.com/track-sleep-samsung-gear-fit/
Please everyone call Samsung and lodge a complaint as they said the developers should fix this it is supposed to be a standard feature of the device

The oddest thing. For the last week or so I've noticed this behavior. If I forget to put my Fit in sleep mode and roll over to go to sleep as soon as I put my hand under the pillow it vibrates. Although I don't see any message it things 2nd to put it in sleep. Anyone else experience this?

I returned my gear fit, it is the biggest waste of time, i was running it at the same time at a sony fitband SW10, and the sont is WAY WAY better than the samsung.
only thing it doesnt do it the heart rate..but it is so much better for everthing else, even the softwaare is 2000% better....
My advice to anyone with a gear or giear fit, get rid of that rubbish and get a proper fit band!!
SONY SW10 all the way!!!
(Also half the price!)
I am to late maybe...
but
is anyone here ?
I am using gear fit more than 18 months.
I now see that feature but as u said in ur message there is nothing on sleep menu like that.
do u have a soluion to this?
and how?
I have that issues too.... and it is a year after the original post, I will return this gearfit.
I just bought the Samsung gear fit 2 on July 6 specifically for the sleep feature and am returning it today. The sleep recording is way off. Brought it back to Best Buy and they said to try another app that would not find the gear 2. I used my daughter's Samsung gear fit 1 and it worked perfectly. It usually started recording 1 to 2 hrs late and once it started 6 hrs late. I have a slow pulse rate...not sure if that has anything to do with it. It is paired to a LG Android... The mileage tracker is not accurate either and once I am sweating from walking in the heat the heart beats per minute goes very high.

Why is your SGS2 disappointing may i ask?
are you sure it does not work? because i heard the original galaxy s does indeed wake up if you have an alarm set and you turn the phone off. the alarm will still go off. not all android phones do this. only nokia and samsung symbian phones historically have this feature, but i remember samsung brought it to its galaxy s android phone.
May I ask why you not just try????????????????????????? FYI my SGS II does not ring when turned off. I think Nokia phones actually are some off the few phones that ring when turned off.

My Galaxy S's alarm never worked if the phone was off, and from what I remember on the SGS forum no-one else's did either.
Personally I put the phone in flight mode at night - alarm works fine.

Whether those phones count as smartphones or not is quite debatable. I've never heard anyone call the Nokia N95/N97 models smartphones and they're probably the most well equipped "dumbphones" to date.

Reading this forum makes me think twice on buying this phone... In 4 days it will be available at my orange store but reading about all these problems... First of all, what do you mean by not ringing when it's off?!? This is absurd! From my nokia 3310 to my present Samsung Omnia 2 all the phones had/has this SIMPLE feature! Why the sgs2 doesn't have it?I'm used to charge my phone at night(turned off) and get the wake up ring in the morning Second, random shut off??? This is at least a deal breaker! Third, camera focusing problems??? Display problems?
Question: Are we talking about an expensive phone or a cheap one ?

1) No android smartphone can use the alarm when it's off. I don't think the iThing can either...
2) Random reboots or shut off??? What reboots? Consider user error, or people overclocking to stupid levels, I've yet to see one in 3 weeks.
3) Camera focussing issues??? Best camera I've ever had on a phone. Rivals a high end digital compact for at-a-glance sharpness
4) Display problems? If you know what a SAMOLED is, you should be fine. No issues here AFAIK
Don't bother with the topics about problems turning you off. Think of a random product, go to some forum where they talk about the product, and you'll see enough issues.

geez, set the alarm for 2 minutes later then now, shut the phone off. if it goes off then it works. seems pretty simple

There's no need to be angry, especially since you haven't bought the phone yet, and if you're upset about these problems (the random reboot is a faulty unit btw, so if it happens justget it replaced), you should definitely not buy it.
Or you shouldn't get a smartphone for that matter, since the more complicated a device is, the more likely you are to run into problems. Maybe the iPhone has less faults, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't ring when it's off either, or you could look at nokia's feature phones like the E52, N95 or N97, which will also be cheaper.

1. True
2. Yes, this happens to me every now and then. Also a whole bunch of other people have this issue, whether it be faulty RAM chips, loose batteries or generally bad flashing.
3. The camera is good for a phone, but it doesn't and will never rival a real camera, due to the small and cheap lens, lack of optical zoom and small sensor.
4. Hearf of the yellow tint issue? Every SGS2 to date has this, more or less. There's yet to be posted a single photo of a display without this issue in low ambient light and low backlight.
Sent from my disappointing GT - I9100
@BlueScreenJunky not that angry as it might led the impression ...but to be honest I am a little disapointed because I've been waiting for this phone to be release for some time now.
About iPhone...I like the looks but that's all. I hate restrictive companies so I cannot pay for a company's product to be able to use it only their way. I like freedom I pay, then it's mine to do whatever I want to do with it.
Nokia N97 is a pain (no offense to those who own one)...but one of my colleges had it...it's a realllyyy slow device.
Oh, and I don't want to be a snob, but money is no issue in this case...it becomes annoying to me when I pay for something that it is said to be great and in the end I realize that is less than average or it is faulty because the company who produced it didn't pay enough attention to quality.
@prodygee you are right, but then again judging by the price of the device and by the most reviews that say it's the best phone at the moment ... these hardware problems (shut offs, display problems etc) should not exist.
Anyway, for the moment I talk based on what I read...so it's not that relevant.
Next week I'll go and test it myself in real life. Being a human and since we humans are known to be able to adapt to almost anything I can adapt myself to the lack of wake-up ring and some other minor problems(except display and shut off prbls.)

I came from a windows phone, and microsoft has that feature enabled for all their phones just by going to windowsphone.com and signing in with your live id. and before that, on windows mobile, i had my phone setup with creeper and it got stolen and i wiped it remotely but before i wiped it, i sent it a couple texts telling the thief where he was and that if he didn't return it i was going to call the police. the next morning the phone was sitting on my desk...
I used that Windows phone feature to locate/spy on my kids iDevices have the similar functionality. Not sure why Google left this one out?
DIVE was left out of the i-717 because AT&T offers their own called Mobile Locate and surprise...they charge for it! It is an add-on to the phone insurance.

Really, no love Cerberus?
You can snap pictures from the website control panel with the phone's front camera and have them emailed to you, or record audio from the mic and send that.
You can make it so any SIM put in the phone that isn't the current SIM will only call a phone number you specify.
You can wipe whatever you want from remotely and track the exact location of your phone at all times.
It is AMAZING!

Cerberus is one of the first things I install on a new phone. If you are rooted you can install it into the rom and it will survive factory reset. It blows away anything else out there right now. You can record audio, video, have it call a number, take a picture, snap a screenshot. Remote lock / wipe. It is just amazing.

How does Smart Alert really work for the SGS3? It's just that sometimes my S3 vibrates when I have notifications and sometimes it doesn't, it's not very accurate. Is there a specific amount of idle time that the SGS3 should have first before it notifies you through vibration the next time you pick it up?
Please explain.
it's just for missed calls and text messages. Also questions go to the Q&A section.
Also mine sometimes vibrates in my pocket because the phone thinks I've picked it up. Presumably it only vibrates once, so if you miss the first vibration while it's in your pocket, it won't do it again.

Well yeah, but it should be consistent in vibrating once when I have missed calls and text messages, right? Mine doesn't do it "all the time". Sorry about posting in the wrong section. Mods please feel free to move this thread.

So you're saying yours isn't accurate also?
Smart Alert is mainly designed for when your phone is on a desk and you either cannot see the notification light, have it turned off or otherwise missed it, it lets the phone vibrate when you pick up the phone so that you are aware that you have missed something important e.g. you pick the phone up to rush out of the office for a meeting and it vibrates letting you know you missed a call or message.
I use it all the time and to be honest is probably the only reason I won't switch to CM roms (and CM have ruled out ever porting the feature)

That'a not what I meant. Of course the initial vibration comes from the notifications. But after the notification there are times that the phone will vinrate again (smart alert vibrate) without me touching the phone. There are also times that it works properly.

Sent my Note in a week before my warranty was up to have the screen fixed. Now the screen is much better than it ever was before. The screen was great before but it is noticeably sharper and brighter. My buttons are also super bright now. I think the screen has to be a hardware upgrade that could only be in a new Note or replacement screen.

Yes ....but with a one time, $36.00 upgrade charge.
I've been a customer with them for nearly 15 years, since the early days and I also hold a level one business account.
So results for others will likely not be the same.
I've got 11 contracted devices in service with ATT, for my employees.
Having device replacements coming is much easier under those conditions.
They also let me keep the new device, and the tech told me to sell it for parts or repair the button and sell a new working device.
I've got a new power button coming Monday, and a shop I use regularly that will fix it for me too sell.
All together I'm placing 5 devices and their cases, chargers and packaging up for sale this week as I'm getting ready for the move into the note 2 this Tuesday.
I'm planning to stay around the note 1 section for a while, as we have many new users needing help from those of us who have been around this device for a while.
And I've also got duties to perform with the super thread and our Korean note users needing a section built inside the super thread space.....g

Haters gonna hate. Thats the only way to look at it. Its a cool piece of hardware but theres haters for everything. Hell you tell people the battery will last 2-3 days and they scream bloody murder, "oh it sucks, thats horrible!". Then you tell them the Apple iWatch battery will only last 8 hours and they are all like " oh well thats probably ok" (I dont actually know what the iWatch battery is like). I did just go on a little rant here. It should give you some insight into why people talk bad about it.
Thanks I'll check that out

Love mine. Yes charge it daily. Do i really need to not sure but rather it last than run out half wau through. Disnt have apps i wanted. So wrote my own. So now it pretty much does everything i want. I quite often leave my phone at home if popping to shops etc. Has step counter and sleep log. The apps i have downloaded are quite cool but dont use them often.
The two i wrote. Access cctv and view from watch. Control domoticz home automation from watch. Yup lazy can turn lights on and off from bed and couch. The tizen ide for programming is not too bad.

I just got mine yesterday and so far I like it. I had the original Gear 1 and a Moto 360. I will say that the Moto 360 seemed to work better with Google stuff such as Hangouts, but it was far more limited as a device compared to the Gear S. I loaded the Gear Notification Extender, and now I can reply to both Gmail and Hangouts using the Gear S, very nice!
I do like the option of using something like the Opera Mini Browser to view Gmail and such. And I can't wait to try it out this spring while cycling, it would be nice to leave my phone at home or in the car when riding my bike.
Hope this helps.
its a fantastic piece of kit
to be fair i've struggled with it a bit understanding the settings and permutations but the functionality seems to be improving day by day.
the choice of useful apps isn't massive but that hasn't been a problem for me personally,
I'm not a great fan of the interface on my related S4 smartphone but i can live with that
the liberation of just having the watch (ok with your compatible samsung plugged in or turned on somewhere else) is the main attraction for me
i dont understand the haters especially those deriding the battery life, the appearance (it looks great on your wrist in real life), the concept ( i don't think i need one why would anybody else?) or the need to have a samsung phone to go with it ( I'm not charmed by that either that but Samsung are no worse than others in that regard and there are I guess technical reasons why it has to pair with something short of being a brick on your wrist) at least with the Gear S that pairing can be at a distance or indeed you can just use it as a phone on its own
some people have posted here and on android central that they have returned the watch but most actual users who see the use case for them, have checked out the limitations, have persevered or been patient with some of the glitches and understand why its the best in its class
i see your a "senior member" so apologies for showing granny how to suck eggs - apart from that buy it - or hang on a little longer to see if there really is a Gear S 2 coming soon!

I would get one that can be rooted. Mine may go back because of the lockdown.
What type of lights are you turning on and off? And what brand camera? I didn't see your apps on gear store
Thats because i wrote the apps for myself.
My home lights via domoticz
Accessing a cctv server system to view live images.
Might adapt them for the store at some stage but presently just because i wanted them.

I have the WEMO light switches and wished there was an app for it on my watch. And I have foscam cameras, not necessary for a watch but I thought it would be cool.

No apps maybe, but you can go to the website for your Foscam using the Opera browser on the watch. Cheers!
