Hey guys, it's what the title says, I want to format my phone, and put a custom ROM or Kernel (root my phone again)(Idk the difference between both)
Can you guys please guide me through it? And can I only format the internal memory (Leave the SD Card as it is)? My phone is already Rooted, do I need to root again?
well do you know how to use odin or heimdall or do you already have cwm installed? if so flash one of the dormanx kernels that end in .tar or if you have a custom recovery already installed make a nandroid backup and wipe data system and cache then flash cm11 or slimkat

Hi there, I'm new to this whole thing and I think I may have bricked my SGS2 but I'm not sure :/
Apologies in advance if any of my terms are incorrect!
Okay, so I was wanting to install the AOKP Jelly Bean Build 4 onto my S2.
Everything was going fine, I managed to install the ClockWordMod 4.0.0.2 onto the phone and do all the Odin Stuff.
I then put the phone into Recovery mode and then proceeded with the factory reset and then the cache partition wipe
and then the Dalvik cache.
What I didn't realise I had to do was to have the custom ROM on the internal SD. Being the n00b I am
I automatically thought that by "place custom ROM on SD" they meant to put it on my external SD card.
I can't seem to access the ROM zip file on the external SD and was wondering how I could get it onto my internal one?
I have two questions
1. Is there any way I can install the custom Jelly Bean ROM using the external SD memory? [As I don't have the ROM on my internal SD]
2. If not, is there any way I can access my Internal SD anymore because the computer is not recognising it.
3. If that's not possible either, is there any way I can restart everything from scratch, or reinstall an OS to use? LOL.
I am sorry if this isn't clear at all, any help would be appreciated guys! Please and Thank You
Factory reset from within ROM.
hi, it happened to when i finished flashing CM10.1 for my Samsung Galaxy W. what i did was i did Factory Data Reset from within the ROM and tick the "Erase SD card" box. After my phone reboot i finally can access the internal sd. thank God.
Update CWM to a newer one ... This will enable install zip from internal/external sd card
Tou can reinstall the os with odin stock rom from sammobile
Send from my SGS2 I9100 with PACMAN ROM and latest DorimanX 8.xx kernel
you may need to format it.
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
im a newbie here and in android too. i have a rooted galaxy pocket and i tried to flash a custom rom. i forgot to take a backup of my stock rom.
i used the Clockwork mod recovery and i tried to flash repencisv3.5 . i wiped cache, data, and everything . but when i tried to find my custom rom , i forgot that i put it in my external sd card. (((((( the CWM cant access the exernal sd folder so im stuck ://// is there anything i could do to put a custom rom into the main root of sdcard so that i could flash it ??? or is there a procedure using CWM that i can use to open and load a custom rom inside my external sdcard ? what should i do ???? please help !!!!!
Hey guys,
I flashed NeatROM recently for the 4.3 update.
Followed these steps before flashing:
-Install CWM Recovery with Odin
-Download, and save zip to internal sdcard
-Go to recovery, Select Wipe data, Wipe cache
-Go to Advance and Select Wipe dalvik cache
-Go to Mounts and storage, select Format system
-Select Install Rom from SD card
Click to collapse
Everything went well and the rom works fine.
I went in to flash a custom kernel earlier and when I selected install from zip I noticed that all my data/folders from the previous rom were still present. The new data is now in a ' 0\ ' folder.
I was running a 4.1.2 rom with Siyah kernel before I flashed 4.3. I also had a build of carbon flashed as a second rom for a short time. I'm guessing this has something to do with the data left behind.
I just want to start with a clean slate and wipe the internal SD completely; will megawipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832326&page=38) do what I need it or do I need to format the SD from within CWM?
Thanks in advance.
p.s. after such a wipe is it better to flash a new rom via ODIN or would it be okay just use a zip from an external SD.

You need to format /data partition. Megawipe will work. But, IHMO, no need for that. Just do it yourself from CWM.
Also, theres a big difference between odin "roms" and flashable zip roms.
If you flash something via Odin, it means that's probably (or surely) an official Samsung firmware without modifications. A flashable zip one is a custom rom.
Depends what you need/want. Most of us here use custom roms that we flash via cwm.
Thanks for the quick reply, bornlivedie.

I'll do it via the CWM /data format over the weekend. Cheers.

My mistake for not being clearer in my original post; I have flashed a few custom roms before so I did know that Odin's generally reserved for flashing official sammy roms and customs go through custom recoveries.
Thanks for the heads up and the concern though. Much appreciated.
Going to 4.3 I'd recommend formatting the internal sd in CWM, also system, data and preload. If you read neat rom thread you see similar advice, the 5.4 aroma installer comes with Philz 5.15 recovery which is the best CWM to use.

Hi
Please can anyone help. I have rooted my LG d802 correctly and confirmed this by Root Checker. I am trying to install a custom ROM which I have saved the zip file to the phones internal SD card.
When using ROM manager it says I have installed custom recovery Clockwork mod 6.0.4.4 but when I reboot into recovery mode only get the options to reboot system, install from external, adb etc. Or to wipe cache. I don't get option to instal from zip or any way to instal the new ROM. Rebooting just gets the phone back to its original state? Please any help on what I need to do to be able to see the instal from zip option.? Many thanks anyone!?
I don't use CWM, but I believe you should select install from external. It may be referring to your external SD, even if the SD isn't removable. If you still have issues installing your ROM, try TWRP recovery. You can install TWRP installer from the play store.
