Define "doesn't work". What're you trying to plug into it?
Most things you plug into it will need more power, so you'll need to run them off a hub unless it's a very low-powered device like a usb memory stick.
I think the thread author was pretty clear. "Doesn't work" means that it is not working. How hard is that to understand?
Look here:

It would be great to have it back...
ROM developers, can you do it?
Thanks

I am having the same problem.
Got my cable today and can´t get it to work.
Nothing shows when i connect pen drives, tried 3.
I am using 2.3.5 XWKJ1, ROOTED
THANKS.
I read from somewhere that 2.3.5 took away OTG support. You have to use a ROM that supports it. Also, if you want to mount a NTFS partition, you need the fuse.ko specifically compiled for your kernel version. For instance, Siyahkernel comes with its own fuse.ko. The regular fuse.ko you find in this forum would work for he CF-root kernel while none is compiled for the TWD kernel yet. FAT32 should mount automatically.
It works for me. Except NTFS files won't show up in gallery automatically. I have to use es file explorer to open.

Thanks for helping.
Looking around can´t find a rom that says OTG working or 2.3.5 does not support usb OTG.
I´ll try to install 2.3.3 to see if works or the cable i have got might be faulty.
As far as I know every custom rom except the stock rom will support OTG, at least for FAT32-formated sticks. USB sticks work for me in both NTFS and FAT32. I attempted to mount a solid state drive but failed. The SSD light is lit only for half a second. I guess the phone doesn't have enough juice to power a SSD. I haven't tried putting it in an enclosure that supports external power though.

Buy a SATA to USB converter, and connect the USB one to your phone.
Then you connect the power connection of your SSD to your PC, start up your PC and it must work
Sent from my GT-I9100
I tried that. It seems sata to USB converters are not supported by galaxy either.
I have a stock 2.3.4 SGII, rooted.
Sata2USB works, as long as the phone doesn`t have to power the device. If I use one of those USB cables that has 2 connectors on one end (1 is for additional power) and let the PC power the USB device, the phone works perfectly with external HDDs.
I haven`t tested NTFS yet, but it works perfectly withg FAT32, ext 2/3/4, either on usb drives or external HDDs.
The only problem is that non-FAT32 partitions must be manually mounted.

Help me please

thats not the case. It depends on power consumption.. ive been using 8gb pendrives for my XU without problems its just the matter of which brand usb drive ur using try with some other company. Ive tested : Sandisk Cruze 8GB, Strontium Bold 8GB
I am using a 16gb flash drive working fine on my otg cable on Note 3. In order for it to work I formatted it to use FAT32 instead of NTFS. Seems android doesnt like NTFS.
Just keep in mind the limitations of FAT32 you wont be able to copy a single file larger that 4gb or maybe even 2gb onto the drive.
wait up.... there is nothing with the GB's of the pendrive u try with a low power device (all model SanDisk pendrives have no issues with otg and recently Strontium has launched OTG special versions that are fast as well as consume less power)
Mostly the devices with a flashing LED's will not work as they consume more power than the others... but there is little hack to make it work but u need ROOT and Terminal emulator .
Can u Tell more about this hack?

plug in the device into the otg cable and then the cable into the phone.
wait till the power consumption error message is displayed.
using a root explorer(e.g. es file explorer) go to the folder 'root>sys>bus>usb>devices>1-1'
open the file 'bConfigurationValue' with a text editor(es text editor in my case). It should be blank. Edit and put the value 1 and save the file.
Your device will now be mounted and the message will be displayed in the statusbar.
try this
but by the way if the pendrive is shown empty then format it to fat32 format and it'll work fine

I dont belive its possible to mount ntfs on android.
Sent from my SM-G850F
Yes it's possible. Check YouTube
You need OTG Y cable for that
External HDD needs enough power supply to switch on which our galaxy alpha can't provide
Yes I understand but I want to know how to mount ntfs. File system
any body can help with it
So i did search the net on the subject mentioned in the topic and found out that you can do it with an app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oid&pcampaignid=APPU_1_txfSVfOwGoixsAHik5PIBw
It requires root permisions and SELinux on permisive.

well but the built in file manager still doesn't support it, I wanted to be sure.
for me works a 500gb drive without external and a 2tb with external power. could be a power issue if its without external
Doesn't the device have to support OTG? I never saw the note 3 to be advertised to support that.
2tb its a heavy load and redmi note 3 did not support admin please close this thread

Thread is old but: - Stickmount plus maybe Radon Kernel will allow access to NTFS Drives.
As long as the phone can power the drive or the drive has it's own power.
Not sure if Radon is needed but that is my setup!

Is OTG working consistently for you?

I bought and returned this tablet in the first week it came out because my unit appeared to be missing OTG functionality. I used it with 2 different USB-C to USB adapters and could not make it work.
At the time, a couple of senior members on XDA got OTG to work so I assumed I had a bad unit. Since it's been about a month since it's out, wanted to find out if others have consistently been able to get OTG to work. I see from other posts that usb-to-HDMI does not work, but have all of you been able to use OTG to connect to usb drives? If so, could you share which adapters you are using? Thanks..
I was having some OTG USB 3.0 issues, the sticks worked on my OnePlus 3, but were not detected by the tablet... had me worried, but it was simply a case of reformatting the USB sticks on my PC and it all worked again.
I have 2 different USB3-to-USBC OTG adapters and both work w/o any problems on my S3. I've used them for thumb dives (USB2) and USB wireless mice. Unfortunately I cannot recall their specific model numbers as I've had them both for 6+ months, but their brand is stamped on them. One is a white Insignia that I probably bought at Best Buy and the other is a black "Cable Creation".
No matter which brand of usb stick. The only important thing is file format. I don't known for the Tab S3, but at this day all Samsung smartphones and tablets I've tested only recognize FAT32 and EXFAT file format. I've tested this on Galaxy S4 S5 S5 Mini S7 J5 and TAB S S2 S2 VE A10.1 2016.
NTFS file format is NOT recognized BUT on some devices you can read it with ES FILE EXPLORER (maybe other file browsers too but I didn't try them).
For me if you don't root your device, the only two limitations on Samsung devices weres unability to read NTFS and no DTS and AC3 audio CODEC.
Both problems can be solved, NTFS by ES FILE EXPLORER, and DTS/AC3 by MX PLAYER CUSTOM CODEC which can be found on XDA Developpers.
Greetings to XDA!
I've tested USB OTG on Galaxy Tab S3: like other Samsung devices it reads FAT32 and ExFAT file formats but doesn't recognize NTFS.
Anyway like I've told before you can use ES FILE EXPLORER to access to NTFS USB drives.

"OTG" is not a brand.
It means "On The Go".
Any brand can work with the right file format.
It's the same with USB micro SD cards.
I just got a usb-c otg cable today & was trying a few usb drives and ssds with the tab s3. All worked except one of the ssd's (exFAT). It appeared to be not getting enough enough power from the usb port. I charged the tab to full & re-tried the failing ssd: it then worked. For what it's worth I'd noticed similar behaviour with the same ssd on a tab s2: sometimes it would work, sometimes I'd have to connect a usb power bank using a usb y splitter cable. My tab s3 firmware is AQBB and rooted.

Has anyone here been able to get OTG-External NTFS HDD detection and mounting to work with this kernel that is said to have NTFS support in its kernel (I know by default, it's only ExFat/Fat32):
[SM-T820,825] Flash-Kernel V.1.1 Permissive, Wifi Fixed [NTFS + USB-OTG Support]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../sm-t825-flash-kernel-0-1-permissive-t3692328
Since this kernel has SE Linux permissive permissions, I thought Stickmount Pro-Root would work but all it does is detect the drives to mount but then samsung disables them as corrupt and switches to charging mode.
I outlined in much more detail in comments: #23, #25, #27 in the link above - I wanted to get MX Player Pro to load and play my media found on the external NTFS drives that are on a powered USB hub and USB-C OTG. I could easily do this with over 20TB's of multiple external NTFS hdd's on my 2012 Nexus and other nexus/motorola devices. The OTG-C cables I have (2 different that I use) are fine as they work on the other non-samsung devices.
There are other custom ROM's for the galaxy tab s2 which can mount NTFS hdd's like above. Hopefully we can get some others to share their experience and knowledge to troubleshoot.
