Hello,
I've got an HTC Amaze that's been rooted, but done fine for a few weeks/months, at first it's battery seemed to be the problem, and after replacing it things were normal. Now, the phone doesn't seem to respond or give any sign of life until its plugged in, and the only thing that changes is that the orange light glows. When unplugged the light remains on, but the screen is always dark, yet each of the buttons on the touch screen's face (home, settings, back, search) make the phone rumble when touched and I can access all the files from my laptop. It's functioning, I just can't see anything, no water damage, and no recent falls before it went dark.
It's not a bad usb, but can someone help me fix it?
Hi All,
I was out a couple of days back and my battery died. No trouble, come back home and charge it up. Worth noting that in recent months battery performance has been poor with a full charge only lasting about 8hours or so. I put this down to a new ROM I flashed as well as natural deterioration (18 month old S3).
Plug into the wall, red charging LED comes on, but the battery splash screen does not. Tried another charger...same. Thinking nothing of it I go to bed and wake up next morning to be greeted by a green charging LED. However, still no battery splash screen. I try to boot...it doesn't. When I "power on" the bottom LED buttons do light up white and go off after a few seconds. When I press the hold button again, they also come on for a few seconds. If i press the hold button while the button LEDs are on, they go off.
This makes me think the screen has broken as both the hold button and the charging LED is doing what it would do...but without any screen activity. However, it was not dropped or put under any pressure in any way. I have opened it up and also made sure the ribbon is undamaged and connected properly. I have tried calling the phone to no avail. It also does not vibrate or make any noises. Perhaps the battery doesn't have enough juice? Its as if its on the battery splash screen, I just cant see it.
I should mention the screen is infact cracked from an incident about 6-8 months ago. It was however, fully functional. Presumably, this will unfortunately stop me from sending it in. It was also using a flashed rom (CM11) and a flashed kernal (Boeffla).
I used a multimeter and measured 3.96v across the battery so that's fine. I can't test the current as I cant break into the S3 circuit and I dont have a resistor on hand to put some load on it.
Next steps?

Try to put it in odin mode (power+vol down+home then press vol up to agree that you are now in odin mode). You should see it in odin.
If you dont see it, your battery or energy system of your phone is broken. Otherwise your screen is probably broken?.

I've managed to get it into download mode and too show up in odin. I can also get it to show the files in Windows if i wait after holding the power button.
This all indicates it is in fact booting up and the screen is broken...
...BUT...no sound...no vibration...and no calls received
Its as if its only half on. Beginning to suspect a catastophic motherboard failure. Is it possible the battery is at fault? Its as if a whole power rail providing for the phone receiver, loudspeaker, vibrator and screen has gone.

Can you try this?
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
and let it ring?
Today, when I turned my tablet on, I immediately noticed two things. One, the battery was critically low. Two, my homepage looked strange. Everything was not only fuzzy, but it also had a "thermal camera" effect, where everything was either bright yellow, red, green, or blue.
I had to board a plane at the time so I was like, "Fudge. I'll deal with this later" and shoved it back in my purse.
When I got to my hotel, after having charged the tablet for several hours, I tried to boot it up but it wouldn't work.
I restarted the device but that didn't fix the problem either. Now it just stays on a lit up blank black screen. Occasionally static horizontal lines will flicker across the screen but mainly it remains as the lit up blank black screen of death.
Please help! I am not computer or tech savvy. I also did try holding down the power and volume keys simultaneously as others suggested but that didn't work either. Please help. Thanks guys.
This may be important info: I felt my tablet get really hot two days ago.

I'm not really sure but this sounds like a busted digitizer. And that's hardware. If your computer can still read from your tab while it's booted up and connected now would be a really good time to save all your data. You could take it to a repair shop. If it's not too expensive to fix do it otherwise I would be looking at a new tab.

Press briefly on Power button while it's charging. If you don't see the battery charging icon I'm afraid it's a hardware issue.
The title almost says it all,
If I leave my phone running for a while, even at idle, my Galaxy sII's screen sometimes goes black and the phone doesn't respond if I press volume buttons or the power/home button, the screen does not light up and it is as if the phone is dead, but it is running because my computer recognizes it upon plugging in and I can transfer files.
If I had music playing while the problem happened, the music continues playing but the screen is black and the buttons are unresponsive. It seems that the phone works but after a while of usage, it just turns black and I have to take off the battery to get it to reboot and work fine again.
It was running on android 4.2 if I remember as it was a secondhand phone, possibly rooted and experimented around by the previous owner. I tried flashing it to CM12 but the problem still persists.
Has anyone ever ran into this problem? What might be the cause and cure?

If it's doing that even in other ROMs then I'd say it's a hardware issue, maybe proximity sensor, under normal circumstances the screen stays black and won't wake when you press the power button, when the proximity sensor detects something close or when the sensor is covered it keeps the screen off, it could be faulty and acting as if it detects something even though it isn't there.
Or it could be the battery maybe?

Hello, friends
Out of the blue, my S6 Edge tried to restart, but got stuck in a loop at the Samsung Logo. One or two times it went to "insert pin" and then restarted again. I tried to Force Restart and it didn't solve the problem.
After a few tries, I managed to wipe the cache partition. Now it's simply bricked with a black screen and a Solid White LED. I can't restart it, enter download mode or safe mode or anything. Odin doesn't recognize it at all. Is there anything I could try?
The phone is not rooted.

Thank you! Tried it. Doesn't work. It's beyond my understading why would it behave this way after I managed to clear the cache. At least before that it went into download mode or safe mode. I still suspect a software issue.

So vol down + home + power will not get you to download mode?
How about recovery? Vol up + home + power?
This happened to me before and the way i got out of it was hold only vol down + power as soon as the screen went off completely (no led lit) switch to download mode combo.
Tried both of the commands. They didn't work. I will let it drain the battery completely and then see what happens.

reminds me of the bad emmc memory like the note 4s had.
some times completly letting the battery drain can fix it being "stuck". then recharge for 20 min or so then trying to turn on.
if u plug it into pc does it reconize anything in device manager
even unknown device or descriptor failed anythiing at all?
This morning the LED was off, so I tried to recharge it. Nothing happens. Also, the PC doesn't detect it at all. I think it's safe to assume I need a new phone. Too bad...at least if I was able to recover the data on this.

same problem here started over a week ago - samsung S6: black screen, constant white led. tried all variations of resetting with buttons. over a year ago i replaced the battery, and its been fine since. when this no boot issued happened i also tried changing the battery to a known good one. on inserting a battery and then pressing the power button the indicator led will go to green for less than a second before changing to constant white, and it stays that way no matter what until the battery is drained or the battery is removed. Strange thing is there is no information from samsung on what this behaviour means, but I've come across dozens of other S6 owners on the web with the same problem, so this is obviously diagnostic behaviour designed by samsung - but no info from samsung. the phone has never been damaged or watered or rooted so I'm at a loss.
Confirmed diagnostics:
The phone will respond to the power button and attempt to turn on
The phone will charge a battery, so the charging circuits and battery circuits are working.
The phone does not get picked up by a Windows 10 PC with Kies installed in any state - other samsung phones get picked up no problem.
Same here
I have the same symptoms. When I hild the vol up+home+pwr I get a green let for 1/2 sec then white. No other combinations do a thing. I swapped the battery for a new one. No luck.
Mine started a few days ago. The phone was 50% charge and i plugged it in for two hours. Came back and it had a solid red led. After a few hours the red light went off. It was then 100% unresponsive. I then took it apart and disconnected the battery. When I reconnected it, it started to do the white let thing described above

I have one that behaves exactly the same I changed the battery and didn't make any difference. my next step is to replace power management chip. I'll let you know.
Any luck on this?
Mine has been like this for a couple months, kind of gave up on it, but decided to give it a go again!
Same problem here, just happend after switching the battery. Anyone have solved this?
I found a kinda solution, plug your charger in and charge past 30% then unplug charger. then use just vol down and power button for 7-10 seconds, after 7-10 seconds just release the power button while still holding vol down button until you see samsung logo, you can tell if you did it wrong by the solid led being back on, repeat until success, once you have it on do NOT press the power button or it will RESET back to solid led/black screen.
I have the same problem with my s6 active and similar story to dbeeheim. Has anyone fixed this? And can anyone confirm that enzo13's solution works?
Much thanks in advance!!
i have same problem!
Suddenly my S6 dead, battery was ~80%, no charge
yesterday i try to change battery, after that if push power button, LED small light comes but in white with purple, then stuck. (it's small Notifications LED)
and i chnge the screen, but no more than white/prople LED.
(no any thing on screen, always black..)
what is the problem?
i think it's battery because it last month didn't work good, and it's old 3years battery.. but no idea..
Hello guys my Samsung S6 sm-g920f has the solid white led and black screen. Really no fixes?
thank you
Same issue
I have the exact same issue. My Galaxy S6 Edge (G925F) suddenly died and won't get past the 'Galaxy S6 Edge Powered by Android' screen.
I am unable to reach the recovery options. I've tried flashing two different stock ROMs with Odin which succeed but without successfully turning on my phone. I've also tried flashing TWRP with success in Odin but it won't get past the 'Powered by Android' screen before turning off after +-4 seconds. The white LED is on even when the screen is black.
Just had this same issue, my battery died and I forgot to charge my phone overnight, woke up and it would not turn on, black screen. I did manage to replace the battery and do several diagnostic tests on it. My battery was receiving about half the power output it should be (this is normal it's a 4.5yo phone) and when I replaced the battery with a new one, it did not turn on. With wireless charging I can tell I am receiving a charge and with standard I can not. The screen does not indicate it is charging with either method but my wireless charging pad lights up indicating my phone is being charged. I think it may be the processor or screen itself. This really sucks because I lost all my data on my phone and data recovery can be over $500
