[Q] Incorrect Battery Stats / Problems with USB Connectivity - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello developers!
My newold S2 got a few issues and i don't know how to handle them. There was no answer by Google, so i just registered on this great site. :good:
A few month ago, my battery didn't show the correct charge anymore. It jumped from fully charged to less than fifty percent and slowly moved up to about eighty percent. Freaking out! When i connected the phone to my PC nothing happened - it just charged the battery instead of going into mass storage mode. At this point, i used the latest stock firmware and decided to go on a costum rom, recalibrate the battery and that standard stuff. Everything went fine, at least for the first few plugins. I tried another kernel, another rom, but always the same freaking problem. Now i use SlimSaber 4.4.4 updated this morning.
I guess there are problems with the USB controller or something. The phone doesn't recognize that it is unplugged for hours - and this is causing the issues with the mass storage mode. Just nooby guessing - i hope you can help me. Reboot doesn't fix the problem.
I tried to explain the problem as good as i can, sorry if there are missing informations. I don't even know how to explain the problem in german... I attached some screenshots for better understanding. Looking at the clock may show the exact problem. When i took the screenshots, the phone was already unplugged for about two hours.
Do you have an idea whats going wrong and what will fix the problem?
#edit// For any reason, i was able to connect in mass storage mode by mounting in TWRP.
#moredit// For any reason, mounting in TWRP doesn't work anymore.

Servus,
I cannot tell you that the battery fix will work for you but for this device common battery stats wiping apps do not work at all.
Somewhere in the Galaxy SII part of this board there is a workaround for that.
1. Turn off your phone (battery between 0% and 50%) and charge it.
2. Wait till it reached 100%
3. Pull out both - battery and charging cable.
4. Wait for at least 3 minutes.
5. Restart and propably do this again
-> However, you should look for the exact description in the original thread.
The other problem could be due to your rom - you better ask there .

[Q] Battery stuck at 0%, need battery replacement?

Suddenly my phone won't charge. Do I need a new battery?
Here's the details ...
Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly (10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-i9100).
I've had it for almost 2 years.
If I leave it plugged in, everything works fine. I can boot it up and use it normally. The lockscreen display and status bar indicate that it's charging, but it stays at 0%. If I unplug the charger, it shuts down right away.
It also seems warmer than it should be while plugged in, but I'm not certain that's part of the problem.
The results are the same whether I use the charger or a USB cable connected to the computer.
There's an immediate reaction when I plug it in or unplug it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the charger or the port.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery with no change. I've also rebooted it several times... it shuts down when I unplug it anyway.
It just happened today, and I haven't installed or updated any software in the last several days. I have auto-updates in the Play store turned off. So it's not a software issue. The ROM was the last thing I updated and that was on the 30th.
I think the battery is really empty because I can't power it on at all if it's not plugged in. So, it's not just that the battery level indicator is wrong.
Hopefully, all I need is to replace the battery, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that or suggest what else might be wrong.
Thank you.
Check contact pins see if they are bent away or have crap on them. If not it sounds like the battery is dead, but I assume you already knew this.
I had already checked all connections and didn't find any damage or other problems. I bought a new battery today and that seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you.

I needed to write because this topic is on top on google results. I've lived the same today. A while ago i had a sudden battery decrease issue. There i was suggested to remove the battery and wait for a while. I tried this today. Removed the battery (simcard and memory card also... i just felt desperate). Waited for a while (i gues it was about half an hour). Plugged to charge. And my battery contiued charging from %61. I just showed wrong level.
This issue is happening to me too=/ but it happened to both my batteries in the space of two weeks
.
hi i have the same problem. i bought a new battery as mine was kaput. then a few days after that i needed a new charger port. now my phone wont turn on manually but when it is on charge it will randomly turn on for 10 seconds with 0% battery and then turn off. i tried doing the reboot with the power, home and vol up button but nothing happens. do i need another new battery?
I don't think it's the battery. I think it has something to do with these custom kernels and ROMs. I've been battling this problem for months with no results.
- I have a new battery, new cable, cleaned pins.
- Tried Lollipop, CM12 with kernel, one or two other kernels.
- Tried various KK ... CM11, Dominanx Kernel, some others too.
None work properly. I love all the updates but it's I just can't pin the problem down on my S2. I'd love to know what else I can do because I think I've exhausted all possibilities. Maybe JB is the only option? I dunno.
Help would be great on this.

Hi,
if you think the problem is custom ROMs then why don't you just go back to stock ROM and try?

I thought it might have been the pcb. I replaced that too but even that didn't completely revive the battery life. Went back and forth between JB and various customs mods to no avail. I ended up selling it for parts locally
Loved that S2 but it was time to walk away from it

I also had the same problem once. What I did was, went to recovery mode and charged for 1 hour and voila,it was charged till 21% only sadly. But by then,it has never rebooted like that!
hey ive also had a similar problem in which my j1 (Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016)) started to randomly shut down or restart around 2 months ago. Then, the battery would start jumping percentages like 100%, to 54%, then 33, back up to 84 in around 10 minutes. Then when I tried to charge it, it would stay at 0% and when Id unplug it, it would say 100% and shut down. Around late last month i ordered a replacement battery, it came in yesterday and worked fine up until a few hours ago. Now when i try to charge it it would stay at 0%.
Solution
1.Turn OFF Phone
2. Pull battery out
wait few sec
3. Connect charger
4. Put battery in
5. Turn Phone ON
Working for me. If not prob replace battery :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Weird battery and screen issues

Hey guys and gals
this is my first post here. although a lot here is about rooted devices with custom ROMs, I hope you can help me out - you sure have a lot of expertise here compared to many other forums.
For the past two days I've been running into some of the weirdest problems with my Galaxy S2. Before i go into detail, here is the summary:
1. Screen time-out doesn't work while device is not plugged to a charger or computer
2. Notification shows 100% charge for a very long time (hours after heavy usage)
3. Not sure if charging actually works
4. Booting up seems to fail when not connected to a charger
it started yesterday when I noticed the phone light up and say it was charging. The problem is it wasn't - it was in my pocket.
Then I noticed that the screen didn't time out. I changed the setting, nothing - it remained on. I could push the power to make the screen turn off and on again but it wouldn't time out itself.
The charging info went away... at some point. I left it to charge over night and in the morning it indeed showed 100% in the notification bar. The problem is it remained 100% for A LONG time. In the settings menu under the battery it says it has been running on batter for 0 secs and showed 100% charge. For hours... There were no info about any apps or function using the battery. that part was clear.
Then i discovered that the screen time out problem goes away while connecting the charger or via USB to a PC. Then it times out. As soon as i unplug the charger it never times out....
I'm actually not sure if the charging works. Indeed it shows charging but sometimes it magically reaches 100% rather quickly.
Because I suspected a battery fault I used another battery. let it drain completely and then tried to recharge. Can't - when booting it shows a battery icon with question mark and then goes to show that the battery is 100% charged. Then the question mark and then 100% again. Seems to be in some sort of loop.
I've done the factory reset, I had a new firmware installed via Odin just in case. The problem still remains.
Booting the device seems to be an issue and only work with charger or USB cable attached. Ot it will be in that "what battery" and "100% charge" cycle...
I've searched high and low today but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
Have any of you an idea? Really down't want to get a new phone! Seems to be a very bad month going on because a few weeks ago I had really serious issues with my brand new hybrid camera which i have to buy ... again! sold it for parts for pocket money....
Any help would be really appreciated! thanks!
That's really strange....try getting out the battery, charge it to max va an external charger,or borrow a friend's Galaxy S2.Leave the phone withou battery for an hour. Then when you put it in,go to recovery, and "wipe battery stats"(Root it if it's not).See if that works.

How long have you had the phone? The usb flex cable has issues over time. A symptom of this is the charging when not connected to the charger.
If it is this issue the part is cheap (around 5$ I believe).

[Q] Battery charging and stats issue

Hey Everyone!
I have an S2 with some trouble...
The phone was not charging at all, kept discharging even when connected to power, so I suspected a Charging system failure...
I proceeded to get a new charging port, and the battery would charge up to 60% and give an error (Battery Disconnected), tried a couple of charging times, never got a good battery life, phone was shutting down unexpectedly...
So, it was time for a new battery, bought the battery like 3 days ago, inserted the battery, tried powering on the phone (hoping the battery would hold some power), it didn't power on at first, kept doing my stuff, and like 3 hours later, I connected the phone to the computer to get some power, and it was powered on already...
Now, the battery life is quite good compared to what I used to have with the other battery, but whenever I power off or restart, the phone will keep turned off... If I connect a charger, the phone will boot and tell the battery is 100% charged...
Now, If I shutdown, remove battery, put back on and turn on the phone, it will boot from time to time, getting a massive battery drain, powers off by itself, connecting the charger without power on, the phone will display a full battery...
Any help will be appreciated!
Kernel Siyah 3.0.31 s2 v6.05b+
Roshnaie Rom V4 LSW
PD: can I try ICS back in this device???
If I remember correctly, updating through kies would repartition the device, and I dont know if ICS would be compatible with that (used disaster Rom before on another i9100 i had), also, I ignore the method used to update
Yep, do a clean install of stock in the first instance & test. Are you sure you bought the exact same revision of USB board that was already in the phone ? Often problems that persist after replacing the USB board are caused by this. If you didn't, you probably want to buy another USB board & replace it again, but use the exact same revision that was in the phone initially. Check KeithRoss39's guide in General for the info you need.

K, will try a stock ICS, feel a lot more confortable with it for trying out the battery stats...
As for the USB board, originally had R2.2, only R2.3 is available everywhere I ever looked for it, will need to order from somewhere else, but the shipping will cost like 1500% more than the actual board, will keep digging around the junkyard
The difference in the board revision might well be causing your issues, but hopefully it's just something funky in the rom install you've currently got. If it's OK on stock, do a completely clean install of your custom rom & test that for a bit.
And if it's not OK with stock, you know what to do.
Hi!
Have you checked your battery? Maybe your battery has some problems. Actually, one of my friends had the same problem..... He purchased a new battery and a new charger for his S2 and fortunately, his problem was gone!
Please thank me if i helped you!
'So, it was time for a new battery'
And so the 'nobody reads threads before posting on XDA' thing continues...
As @MistahBungle says.....get that board replaced for the correct version. I would personally avoid Odin flashing a phone that I knew to have the incorrect USB assembly. I'd also advise you to think long and hard before flashing stock ICS to your phone......if you want to know why.....do a search for "emmc brickbug".........
This might be my S2 or it might be my W, but it's definitely CM...

[Q] Broken S2 - turns off random moments after booting up

Hello
Yesterday my phone randomly shutdown. After that I werent able to turn it on even after wiping everything and reinstalling the rom. When I came back home i flashed the official firmware with odin and it didn't work as well. Then I managed to turn it on successfully while it was plugged to a charger. I managed to observe that when I normally turn it on it starts only plugged to a charger and turns off after cuople of seconds. This doesn't happen when I enter recovery mode or download mode - I can boot successfully up my device to these modes and it doesn't turn off without need to be plugged. What do you think happened to the device? Can it be fixed on the software level? If not how much do you think it would cost to fix this if it is a hardware issue?
up
Are you sure your battery is healthy?
Remove your battery and see if it has got any exapndings or swelling? Cause I had the same issue except after losing half of it charge it would suddenly turn my phone off like I'm removing my phone when it's still on!
The battery looks 100% normal. I'll check tomorrow with my friend's battery. But in recovery mode phone doesn't have any problems.
Any other ideas? Can it be anyhow software related? If so is there any option to fix this? What should i try?
Replace USB board/port; quick/cheap easy to do yourself. KeithRoss39 has a guide in General (not stickied, search for 'replace USB charger board' or similar) which has all the info you need to get it done.

But the phone does charge well. And it works on battery in recovery. It turn on normally only plugged into power source and the shutdown randomly. How could changing usb port could fix that issue?
Because USB board problems almost always (at least that's been the experience on here) manifest themselves by showing a few faults & working OK otherwise, rather than dying completely - you might be able to charge OK, you might not be able to transfer data all the time; you might be able to transfer data OK, you might get constant shutdowns which you can't explain by changing firmware & trying a new battery.
Everything you've said in this thread so far points to the USB board, and as this is an easy & cheap fix, if it was my phone, that's what I'd be replacing to try and fix it. Put it this way, given how cheap it is (around US$10-$15), if this doesn't fix it, then you'll know there's probably something more major hardware-wise going on. I wouldn't be taking it to a mobile repair shop to have this done though, as obviously they'll probably charge you a crapload in labour to replace a $10 part. Save that for if changing the board doesn't work.
Thanks for your effort. The problem is I don't think i can do it myself. I don't want to spend much money on this phone cause it is quite old. That is why I kind of don't what to do now

[Q] Question regarding Slimkat 4.4.2 and battery

Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this, let me explain a bit first about what happened:
A week ago, i changed my Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 from Cyanogenmod 4.2.2 to Slimkat 4.4.2, and everything was perfect the first day, but then i stumbled upon something that didnt happen before, suddenly my battery stopped charging, it would show its connected, but would go up in %, after trying to connect and disconnect for over an hour i got it to charge a phew % up to 15% and got stuck, so i tried to create a new battery stats with terminal, so i did and it charged for a bit then stopped, so ive been using the phone like this for a week now, i took it to a repair center and they told me it was the battery, since they plugged in a battery of them and started charging flawlessly, so i bought a new battery, but now it kind of charges for a while but gets constantly stuck at a random %, so i unplug and plug back and charges again. So the question here is:
a) Is this caused by a bad rom flash and not wiping anything? i wiped a memory card, but dont remember if it was external or internal, my pictures and everything were still there.
b) Is my charging port busted? wich seems weird because this didnt happen before.
Thanks in advance!
Yep might be the USB board/port (I presume you bought an original Samsung battery ?)
Clean install of stock, test for a few days. If it's still happening, replace the USB board/port. Search for KeithRoss39's guide in General (search for 'replace USB charger board'), has all the info you need; quick & easy to do yourself will cost you ~US$15.
Edit - Actually, now that I think about it...Don't flash stock with Odin, just in case the board is on the fritz. Get one of the CWM flashable stock roms from Wanam's thread in Development & flash/test that for a bit (still do a wipe though). If the board is on the fritz & you try a flash, there's a very slim chance you might brick it (Keith has a theory some of the bricks we see are people attempting flashes with dodgy USB boards).

Thanks for the reply man! i actually put the old battery inside and its working a bit better, never the less its still frisky to make it charge, sometimes it charges for a good chunk of battery then stops, but says its still charging, then i unplug, plug back again and keeps charging, if i were to replace the usb board/port, wich version should i get? my cellphone is the Samsung Galaxg SII GT-I9100, but ive been looking at some charging port replacements and they say something about REV 2.2 and stuff, so wich is the one i should get? This is the one im thinking of buying, is that one the correct one? THANKS FOR THE RESPONDE BTW!
