Hi,
I just thought to start a thread for people that own the UK Orange Galaxy SII NFC Edition (Model GT-I9100p). Had this phone for a little over 2 weeks now and learned a lot from both XDA and sammobile. Okay here are my experiences so far:
The phone that I have comes with Android version 2.3.4 and has Orange applications pre-installed.
What I have been able/unable to do?
Able to root using DooMLoRD v4 exploit - yes!
Able to debrand uninstall Orange Apps using Titanium - yes! ( BUT not the logo at startup though)
Able to use CWM recovery - no! Not unless you are willing to put an insecure Kernel that is and then lose functionality of the NFC. There are some threads that post an NFCEnabler.zip file that you can flash post installation of the insecure Kernel but my experience has been giving me errors when I try to turn NFC on so it's a no go if one wants to keep NFC.
So far the above list is things possible using the orignal ROM that is branded with Orange.
The next thing I have been able to do is install 2.3.6 Samsung stock ROM (list of ROMs found at sammobile.com) - however as this is for the non NFC version you lose that functionality. Also DooMLord exploit does not work with this version so no root (haven't tried any other methods - if anyone else has feel free to update the thread). I have also installed 4.0.3 ICS from sammobile.com but found this a tad buggy (mainly Kernel Panics) - and again no NFC.
A caveat for anyone planning to venture down that route beware, if you want to go back to Orange stock ROM you will get errors stating Cannot mount /efs and /cache directory(ies) etc - took me a while to figure this out but you can get your original Orange rom back if you use Odin3 v1.85 check Re-Partition, Auto-Reboot, F-Reset Time, use a PIT file (I used u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4) and the Orange stock ROM (again found at sammobile).
So at the moment I am back with the original Orange ROM as I want to have NFC.
I hope this is useful and would be happy to create a thread of Q&A for owners of the NFC GT-I9100p edition.
Cheers,
J
Thanks for the info, I'm using the same model, I've rooted using doom lords v4, and disabled some of the orange bloatware using nobloat,
however I can't find orange backup to disable it, I network unlocked my phone to use giffgaff instead so don't want this to run after each reboot, the only orange app left on the systems app list is signal boost which when disabled messes up the phone, maybe orange apps, games and back up is built into this our something, because I can't seem to find them on the list..
Did you remove signal boost?

The fact is that you can flash any i9100 Custom Rom on the i9100p...The only inconvenient being that you'll lose NFC...which is not a big deal anyway as there is barely nothing you can do with it...at the current time
I no I can flash any rom/kernel I am happy with rooted stock tho because I keep NFC and tv out via mhl. I just want to no how he removed orange backup and orange app store?

Hi - no I left signal boost just in case I need it (as I am using both Orange and T-Mobile sim cards at the moment). Since my last post I have actually removed a few more apps using Titanium - I removed the backup and orange using the same method. One thing though, when I removed the Orange Home Selector app I got a boot loop and had to do a reset in recovery 3e (& had to reinstall my apps) but then funny thing after that the home selector app is no longer there - I am guessing Titanium removed it from the actual ROM and upon reset it is no longer there?
The only Orange branded things I have now on the phone are the Orange Internet icon for the web browser, Signal Boost and the annoying splash animation when booting up/down the phone.

If you want you could also change the boot animation to the original SGS2 one or a custom. Details are within the forum.
Sweet - thanks for that
I followed this article here and I used the bootanimation.zip file for the boot up and the shutdown.zip for the boot down & works perfectly - thanks again for the heads up!
UPDATE: Do not remove Home Screen Selector app
A little more info on removing Orange apps:
I did this (removed Orange Home Screen) and just found out that any launcher installed thereafter (Tried ADW and Go) makes the phone reboot into a loop and can't get passed the samsung logo animation....I even tried other home launcher managers from the App Store to the same effect!
PS you can fix the loop by going into recovery (3e) and rest all data etc

OP:
Let me get this straight... you flashed a standard I9100 firmware (in other words, NOT an I9100P firmware... I9100 firmwares DON'T support NFC), then attempted to flash just a kernel to try to get NFC back?
I'm about 90% certain on this: NFC support is NOT in the kernel. If you remain on your stock i9100P firmware, you can flash whatever kernel you want that supports an I9100 (including insecure rooting kernels, Siyah, SpeedMod - whatever), and you should not lose NFC.
Well I thought so too but after flashing an insecure kernel (the one I tried was GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.0.2.tar which contains a zImage file inside) the NFC option disappeared from under Wireless & Networks. Then I tried the NFCEnabler.zip option to bring it back and did get it back but could not enable it as I was getting an Error Occurred message.

Where did you get that tar? Based on the name of the tar, it sounds like it's just cwm recovery... So you never tried a CF-root kernel?

Everything I got is from various threads here on XDA (apart from the offical ROMs which I got from sammobile) - maybe it wasn't a kernel...I did try another zImage which was meant to be the Orange France NFC Kernel (again downloaded from a thread on XDA - filename KERNEL_I9100PBVVKI2) and even with that NFC was not there...I am staring to think I should have gotten a non NFC phone... ;-)
Hi all. I have just received one of these after many years as an iPhone user. So i am a total newbie to Android.
Ok i do not want to mess about with my phone at the moment. I wondered if any of you have any idea for a workaround for the problem i am having with KEIS.
I have installed KEIS and i want to run (store) Samsung Apps. Problem i am getting is
"This device is not supported by Samsung Apps, View compatibility list".
I look in the list and select Galaxy SII GT-I9100. But still no use. So i am at a loss. I guess this may have to do with me having the I9100P NFC from Orange.
I would appreciate any assistance please.
Many thanks
Tony
IMO Kies is total piece of cr*p - don't really use it but I have just connected it and I get 'Samsung Apps cannot be run - Please try again later'. Sorry I can't help further with that.
PS you know you can use the Samsung Apps application installed already on the phone if you want apps from there?

But didn't I see somewhere that you already flashed a non i9100p ROM? If so, no kernel is going to bring it back. Nfc.apk is probably gone, and needs to be put back. There's an nfc enabler out there that does that.

Okay, originally I flashed a non i9100p and yes lost NFC. I then tried the NFC.apk and did get it back but was getting error occurred when trying to enable the tick box under the wireless settings.
Then I found the original Orange i9100p ROM (on sammobile) installed that, got NFC back but I also wanted to have clockworkmod recovery and not the samsung 3e one and that's when I tried what I thought was the insecure kernel (the CWM file in my first reply) but lost NFC totally after applying that. I then tried the Orange France kernel (also a zImage) and that did not bring it back either. That's where I stopped trying anything else.

What version is your "original Orange i9100p ROM"?
I'd say you need to flash back to your original Orange i9100p ROM, then flash the closest CF-Root kernel to that version. This should retain NFC, give you root, and install CWM all at the same time.
Hi Guys,
I only got this phone today (orange UK version).
I've spent hours on the forum trying to find some guides on how to root my phone and flash clean rom. There seems to be just way too much info for me.
Can you please point me into the right direction?
All I want is to root, remove simlock and flash a standard non-orange ROM.
Thanks
Pete

Do you have an I9100, or an I9100P? (P has NFC)
Look in the sticky in the General section. There is a root guide and a firmware guide posted there.
Hi guys!
I have changed rom from cm7 to miui today.
First thing i noticed is its not that much attractive or user friendly as cm7.
Im still wondering where is the app drawer???If anyone knows let me know!
Found a bug:
1-In brightness setting when i clicked custom brightness levels, phone went in loop mode.Had to reinstall the rom from cwm to get thing sorted.
2-I have kept time on "automatic" mode but rom doesnt take time from my sim operator.I have enabled all options but i think i will have to enter time manually.
The contacts menu is not as cutomizable as cm7.I dont get direct call button beside contacts names as i used to get in cm7.
It has good set of themes but theme download takes a lot of time.Server seems to be slow from where it downloads themes.
Will be posting more reviews as i use it.Dont think so i will tolerate this for more than a week!
The default MIUI launcher has no concept of an app drawer, it's like iOS in that they're all dumped on the home screen. You'll need a different launcher if you want an app drawer.
Some of the brightness issues might be caused by the fact that the original CM7/MIUI ports for the S5/V are hackports, those specific issues are expected.

Seems this ROM is bit buggy?
I installed miui rom at 8am morning and removed it at 11! thats all!
System time changed automatically. and when i called or received calls all the time it ran directly on speakerphone.(defauly option should be ear speaker).
I found it really a headache.
As we say in India, China is "CHINA"!!
Its a chinese rom and upgrade option given there to update the rom but it works in chinese language and asks for mobile verification code to register with miui.us!bUT I NEVER GOT THE CODE IN MY SMS INBOX!
Also miui rom has same ussb codes problems.google app is available though.Ididnt try ussd fix via cwm coz i really didnt like the rom.
Back to cm7...its the best and i thank the cm team for providing such a great rom.
USSD codes are broken on ALL S5/V GB roms if you dont apply the USSD fix, which apparently wasnt included in this rom.
It's due to all GB based roms reusing the dell stock drivers (which the USSD handling code lives in)
CM7 is also affected by it, I dont remember offhand if the V one has the fix included, but the original S5 one definitely didnt.
i used MIUI rom and i could reduce brightness in settings and it didnt FC...the only problem i found in CM7 and MIUI is the clock...even after i set the time it goes faster than it should go...those r the only problems i faced...now cant do anything with phone as it doesnt boot after showing dell logo...the logo disappears and dont know what happens...need help pls
I have been using MIUI on my Venue for two weeks now. Had stock Froyo rom before.
I have not experienced any of the issues reported in this thread.. not even the time creep.
Here's how I updated to MIUI.
1. Install Olleh 408 recovery (available here)
2. Install Olleh 408 update package (available here)
Note: rename this file to update.pkg and copy to your SD card's root.
3. install CWM recovery
4. wipe cache, user data, dalvik cache & Battery stats
5. install miui zip
reboot.
By the way, folks here using CM7... can you mute your phone during a call? also, do you experience any calls made or received where the other party could not hear you?

Yes we cant mute the calls,
Even if we mute the other party can hear us.
And the second issue is 1/10 where the other party cant hear you clearly or atall. But second time call solves the problem.
We need a workaround on the above two issues.

Mute issue is only with CM7...Mute works in miui. Other party can't hear you issue is on all miui and cm roms for streak 5 as well. Since They share kernel base...(kang/dsc/olleh)..I am pretty sure its kernel related.

Hey Guys.
So I have a Tab 10.1, bought by me in the UK, tho I believe the model I have is a French one (bought it from Expansys) as that's the language it started up in.
I have tried to root my tab, using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185/
However, no matter what rom I try to install, my screen ends up flickering with lots of lines across it, after about 5 mintues, rendering it useless. I have tried to install a stock rom, and unroot using Odin. I downloaded Root Checker from the market and it says I am now not rooted. I am currently running a stock 3.1 Rom.
But I don't know what to do now. Whatever rom I seem to choose to flash I still get the flickering issue.
I also got the flickering in CWM, but got it working using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27830023&postcount=41
but it didn't stop the flickering when I installed a new rom.
Can someone help, pleaseeeeeeee? :fingers-crossed:
Ok, I seem to have fixed the screen flickering.
I did this by flashing the file P7510XABKMN_P7510UEKMM_HOME.tar.md5 (which was in a file I found called sgt10.1_root_unroot) through Odin.
I'm not sure how to root and/or flash now as I don't want the same problems again.
I have no CWM because when I boot into recovery I have no option to install zip from SD card.
My About Section tells me:
Model Number GT-P7510
Android 3.2
Build No. HTJ85B.UEKMM P7510UEKMM
So I am guessing I have managed to get a stock rom back on the device, which has solved the flickering isses.
I have no Superuser and so am not rooted.
My aim is to install Tasker 14.
Does anyone know the reason why I got the flickering from Clockwork, and how I can flash without getting it?
Going to go to bed now since I've rescued its functionality! I'll get back on trying to flash it tomorrow.
Thanks
So I managed to root and install CWM again, flickering seemed to not exist.
I then tried to flash Task 14 and have the screen flickering again.
I flashed the bootloader file before I did any of this, as of these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27830023&postcount=41
Hope u have got the solution now

Weirdly, the AOKP, CM9, and my current rom Overcome all work on my tablet, without the screen issues. The only time I get the screen scrambling is when install Task 14 (tried both fat and slim versions). This is on a clean install.
No idea why this is. But I'm happy the screen issues are sorted and I'm now running the modified honeycomb rom that is Overcome. Just got to wait for the Camera drivers for ICS

Hi there,
I installed custom ROM on my Lenovo S890 phone, which works great and has all I need. But there is this problem (similar like in this post forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125812). When I try wake up the phone from standby mode, all I see is a dark screen with vertical stripes of several colors all over it. I can however set volume and even the display responses after pushing buttons it vibrates. So it works, but the screen is broken.
When I install original ROM, everything works fine. But when I install any of these custom ROMs found on needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/s890/ I have the same issue with the screen.
Does anyone had similar issue with his phone? I'm currently trying to fix this problem with software jBART v0.7.9 - I decompiled the original ROM that works fine and also decompiled the custom ROM I want to fix. Then I'm trying to copy files from original to custom ROM, hoping somehow I overwrite possibly broken files and everything should work afterwards.
Any help or advice is welcome
So little update:
I am still experiencing the same problem. On official chinese ROM it works fine (but chinese ROM is not useful at all for me). I installed 6 custom ROMs and on each of them I have this same problem with screen.
I discovered, that the problem is not instant - when I wipe all data and make brand new installation of ROM, first thing that pops up is Settings wizard (the app from Google where you select language, enter your gmail account etc). And while in this app, the screen lock works fine!
After I am done with settings and exit this wizard, the home screen loads. And then the problem with black screen starts.
Now, I tried to delete default launcher.apk and replaced it with 4 different, but the problem is still the same at the same point. So while I am at the settings it's ok, after I am finished with settings and exit the app, it brokes.
Does anyone have any idea, where the problem could be?
I recently bought this phone, and I am searching for many hours to find out how to flash a custom ROM. I found some instructions in bad english, I found ROMs with missing files or with with problem in unzipping, I found drivers that I need to install but do not seem to get installed, etc etc.
I am very confused and I am afraid to do something that I am not sure of, because I may brick my phone.
WellBloud_cz, please tell me the steps to install a custom ROM (in brief, I am not a computer newbie) and then I will tell you if I have the same problem on the screen.

Hi, first of all - do you really need to flash custom ROM? Is there anything wrong with your current ROM? You have to consider all the facts, if it's worth the trouble. If you want install custom ROM, just because it looks cooler, you can install different launcher/change theme etc. If you have serious problem with your current ROM, like it does not work like you want, then I suggest you try diferrent ROMs...
If you still want to install custom ROM, then
backup everything everytime!
if you can switch your phone to recovery mode, install from recovery mode - you can download a .zip file containing ROM (you can try some from needrom.com/phone-roms/lenovo/s890/
after the installation make sure everything works properly, so you don't have to debug for a year (for example - I recently discovered that battery didn't last even for a single day... After close inspection I manage to fix it - the media app was the problem, it used all of phone's energy, so I have to restart it and then everything is fine and battery holds up to 3,5 days)
if you can't install from recovery mode, try flashing your phone with Flash tools - make sure you have good recovery mode included (like TWRP)
then you have 2 options - either install via recovery mode .zip files or flash whole new ROM on your phone via Flash tools
if you success, make sure you can set your IMEI - otherwise you can't send messages and make no phone calls. If you have IMEI set to some nonsense like 123456789, then download and use MtkDroidTools v245, where you can root your phone and also change your IMEI numbers
also make sure that the ROM you are installing is in your favorite language. If not, you can use More locale app, which translates most of the content. If you want, you can make your own translations with jBart, but it's long process
lastly check if ROMs have Google play, because majority of apps can be downloaded from there
GL & HF
If you have more questions, be more specific

Hello everyone,
Running the stock image (Android 4.1.2). However the device has been rooted and TWRP has been installed for custom recovery. Here is the issue: The clock on the lock screen t is not in sync with the system clock. It shows the time the last time the phone was used/locked. And there is no way to delete the lock screen clock. I switched to Swipe unlock and deleted all the lock screen shortcuts as well. No change in behavior. My wife claims that this problem started after I rooted and installed custom recovery. I can't for the life of me figure out how this would be possible. How could the lock screen clock in the original ROM be affected by obtaining root and installed TWRP?
BTW the reason I rooted and installed TWRP was because I wanted the updated Android version, so I went with CM11 M10 ( I think). Everything was great except she couldn't make phone calls, send or receive messages etc. Since I made a full backup of the original ROM using TWRP, I simply restored it to bring it back to what she had prior to CM11.
Any thoughts on whats going on? If others are running the stock ROM (4.1.2), do you have same issues with the clock on the lock screen?
Thanks
