Does anyone know if there is a ROOT method being developed for the new LG G Vista (VS880) Verizon model? So far I have tried TowelRoot, IORoot, and PurpleDrake. None of them work. I have searched the whole XDA and Google. No one has mentioned this phone. Any ideas?

Ya what gives lol. Its a solid device and I think there is a lot of focus on the g3 ATM. The Vista is a battery monster. I get 2 days no problem. 3 with light use.

Looking forward to my G Vista arriving on Friday! I'd like to get root as soon as possible, and then hopefully find a way to install apps to the SD card!
Has any one successfully rooted the LG G Vista D631 or VS880 yet?

I would also like to find a way to root LG VS 880 on Verizon. The "added security" Google added to the SD card really sucks. If they would loosen up the security to allow moving & deleting of audio, video & pics from within a file manager it might be ok? But the way it is right now makes the SD card worthless. Because my browser (dolphin) can't save to the SD card & there's very little free internal space. It would be different if the VS880 came with 16-32 free. But I had less the 4 free when I opened the box. Google you really did evil this time.

I manually moved everything and never had a problem. I also set up my pictures to auto save to the SD card. Only problem I had was downloading torrents dont go directly to the SD card.
root bounty
Hey everyone,
Setting bounty for achieving root on the LG G Vista at $100 USD via PayPal.
I will be paying bounty to the developer who releases a successful root method.
Lets find a way to do this.
I have the LG Vista and am loving it, but would love it even more with root, custom ROM's, etc.
EDIT: I have the AT&T LG Vista, if that makes a difference.
Has anyone tried Stump Root?
Stump root doesn't support Vista yet make sure you guys ask for Vista support

I'll donate 20$ to the above 100$ to help root Vista

LG G Vista not Quick View Case capable...
I spoke with LG about the LG G Vista and the Quick View Case. This phone does not have the capability to use a Quick View Case, according to the Rep, and he was not able to tell me if the Asian GX2 had the capability or not.
bruteforce on stump root should work
No Bruteforce option in Stumproot
I downloaded Stumproot 1.2 apk and installed.
When I run it, I get the error message, "ERROR: Unsupported device" under a grayed out button that says [Grind].
A light green colored message pops up at the bottom of the screen (and goes away quickly) with the following message:
"At this time your device is not supported, if you want support, please request it in our XDA thread. "

Hello all. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I recently got my girlfriend a zte overture on aio wireless. I've been looking at a method to root this phone and have found nothing. The phone is pretty decent, not even looking for a custom ROM (yet), just need root to bypass the Google hangout video call WiFi restriction, and to get wifitether working for her.
I understand that their isn't much demand for ROMs and what not for that phone. But with aio wireless going nation wide and the phone being only 150 bucks with semi nice specs and 4g, figured something's would start popping up for this phone.
Anyway any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

ZTE Overture z995 - root method from other ZTE's?
I tried the Lumina 620 last week with Aio, and while the phone hardware was awesome the Windows Phone 8 OS was my hangup - (cmon guys, cant even add custom notification sounds? No system file explorer? The HERE maps are 2 years old or more in my area too...).
So I went back to Aio and got the ZTE Overture (Z995). (LTE Rocks! Wow I like the speed and coverage in DFW!)
It's a nice phone - low on memory, but it allows you to remove facebook with no issues, and the build on it is not too junked up.
Can anyone tell or theorize on whether other ZTE root methods work on this phone? I'd love to put a hosts file ad block on it...
Model: Z995
Android Ver: 4.1.2
Baseband: Z995T01
Kernel: 3.4.0-svn5856 [email protected]
I have seen statements that ZTE doe not have a locked bootloader. I noticed in my phone settings, in system updates, it even has options for "Storage card updates" and the "Update ZTE Software" option seems to try to open a zip file on the SD card... so does that mean you could put SU in a zip file and just ask the phone to apply the zip to get root? I doubt it's that simple, but I thought I would ask...
I've tried using google translate on baidu to see if anything came up but man, it's tough to navigate that site if you don't speak Chinese...
Oh - This phone is $79 at Aio. I also asked what happens to us Aio folks when AT&T shuts Aio down to merge it with Cricket in the coming months and got blank stares... (we should be OK, they'll just move us into Cricket I assume. They people at the Aio store might not be so lucky.)
Haven't heard anything about a merge with cricket. Aio just went national about a month ago so that would be strange.
Anyway, I'm still searching for an answer to get root on that phone.
Want to bypass the need to be on WiFi for hangouts, which needs root to achieve.
I'll be sure to post if I find anything

Do a quick Google for "att cricket aio", you'll see the blogs and news about it... Who knows - maybe if ATT shutters AIO we can get an unlock code early for free.
(hey just a thought does AIO stand for "ATT's Independent Operator"? And would that be ironic, or an oxymoron? )
I must be tired, I've started making bad jokes....

I haven't found anything yet. It must not be an extremely popular phone based on the low quantity of hits I get looking around the net for info on it.
Which is weird because I really like it. I got over 5 days of life and was still at 30% when I plugged it in last week, which is awesome (less than 10 minutes talk time on it however). I wasnt sure how much battery life an LTE connection would take but it doesent appear to be much in standby.
I do see references to a ZTE blade and rooting them, and that thread (I think its in xda somewhere) stated all ZTE phones have unlocked bootloaders... and there are threads about the 990 (the Overture is the 995) being unlocked. But until I see someone play with their 995 I am not assuming ZTE left it unlocked. It is a phone on the ATT network so I would expect them to be less customer friendly. (qualification: they dont like you monkeying with their phones as much, but the customer service is tons better than a straight-talk type provider for sure)
I am just hoping I'll run across a post stating how to root it someday. LTE is awesome speeds, but it still burns me up to have to spend some of my bandwidth on video ads on youtube. Especially for something I would never buy and they show the same commercial over and over and over...
-=RB
I also read that zte devices where all unlocked. But if my memory serves correctly, the guide on how to root zte devices found on xDA was for android 2.3.
Surprised that nothing has appeared for the phone. It was a cheap decent price with lte capabilities. Thought more people would be using it.
When I get a chance to tinker with the phone I will.

But this looks promising
Tried oneclickroot with no success. It did recognize the device it just would not root.
zte
Well I tried that Root Method and it seem to work fine and its pretty easy. Installed super user seems to be working fine the only thing that i am having toruble with is getting the wifi tether to work (im using WiFi tether- TrevE Mod) got it installed and all but when i turn it on it gives me a message tethering started with errors to go to the show log.. I do that and in the show logg everything looks fine except a section named "Enabling NAT rules..." that says failed any suggestions????
Never played much with wifi tethering but usb tethering works. I used foxfi free, however they cut off at bout 45 mb then ya need to restart it. Tried a few others with lil success so far. Gota like AIOs tethering policy, or lack of.
Good to know this will root, cept now I get to figure out why it wouldnt for me. You used oneclickroot? Did you install the drivers manually?
Yes I did install the drivers manually I was having trouble at first for some reason it would get stuck on on of the processes but finally got it. I the only thing is that im having toruble trying to tethering i dont know why have not tried the usb method might try that dont know if i would be abel to used it with my playstaion.. thats the main reason i was trying to tether..
Any was I was reading that that the erros message that it gave me in my show log.. (Enabling NAT rules... Failed) had something to do with the kernel not supporting wifi tether that i would have to flash a different kernel in the phone any suggestions??

so, what actually works?
Ok, just so I read the thread correctly, the one click root site DID work for getting root, but the other referenced thread talking about rooting the blade has not been proven to work on the 995/overture, correct?
One click pops up frequently in my searches for root, but I thought it involved downloading a windows app and paying $30 to some unknown website. If that is true then I'll wait till another method is posted. I won't risk running an app unless I know what it is really doing to both my phone and my PC. And I am certainly not forking out $30 for it.
It seems risky and, well, not in the spirit of xda... I mean isn't it more about learning how it all works, discovering how to do it on your own, and working with fellow xda'ers to develop and vet a good (transparent) process for root?
If one click works well and you don't mind the cost and not knowing what their software is really doing, then that's ok. There's no right or wrong here in my opinion.
I just don't see it as being as much fun or as safe a way to get to root...

Well then I guess the reviews on their forum were incorrect then... When I looked thru their blog there were comments stating it asked for $$ at some point. Aside from that there were tons of complaints about unsupported phones... And maybe one or two happy posts out of 20 bad ones.
I'll give it a closer look then. I know I can sandbox the application in a VM, so maybe I can get a backup of the phone before I play with it w/o using clockwork as well.
Will post what I find... Thanks!
OK, who actually got oneclick to work? And has anyone used the blade thread sucessfully?
Also, if you read the legalese when installing it, it clearly states the payment for service must be made to a canadian recovery company, and that you release all rights, etc etc. I did notice any legalese on privacy was missing, which I expected to see. There is a license tab with a space for activation codes as well. (i.e. it's definitely a paid app, but trying to find out how much is difficult, its not on their website anywhere.)
And I can verify the oneclickroot tries to see the device (goes thru identify, validate, download, install), but always throws up a "Please confirm your device is connected - install ADB manually" box. ADB Driver links bounce you to the ZTE news page that has a link for an older "ZTE 3G adb driver download" which gives you a file - "ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC.rar". And after installing that, I still don't have any luck getting the solution to work.
I suspect those first few "steps" in oneclick root are bogus as well, because if you don't have any phone connected and start the process, it still goes through the "Identify, validate, download, install" steps.
For the phone, I noticed that while I can choose from several different options for connections in settings (Charge Only, USB Mass Storage, Install Driver, Connect to PC Software, Media Device (MTP), and Camera (PTP) ) several of those options show a failure in windows for the "Android" driver. That said, I have no problem using or connecting to the phone as a media device, camera, or mass storage device, so I'm not sure what the "Android" device driver that keeps failing is supposed to be for. Maybe that's what is preventing oneclickroot from going further, but I have no way to tell at this point.
So I would recommend at this point to stay away from it. Overpriced, does not work (even though it attempts to appear it is doing something), and privacy concerns are not addressed in their legalese, as well as we still have no idea what their executable is actually doing to the phone or the windows host, and they wont clearly state what it costs.

There may be an app blocking mobile hotspot like tmobile puts on there phones. Seems unlikely since AIO told me they had no problems with tethering but never know. Pick up an uninstaller from the play store an look through all the apps.
Only other suggestion i can think of right now is trying the different wifi tethering apps available.
Maybe one of these days we will get a dev in here making custom ROMS, can only hope. :fingers-crossed:

Hi ! You can try this method : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCpjNjrSLTw#t=0
It was tested on Slate 7 Plus but it should work for every HP tablet.
Just ask for translation of Youtube's subtitles if you can't understand french

Dude, is this tablet awesome? I'm actually quite excited to buy this tablet when it lands in the near future in my country (fingers crossed for that!). I know that this tablet is the HP's version of Tegra Note because they are similar one to another. I also know this tablet is insanely great for gaming, note taking, picture drawing, movie watching, etc. But what is the downside that you found on this tablet? Is its battery life any good? How long can it survive to play intensive games in the row without resting the screen?

Yeah but once you root I believe there are ways to get around that.
Ah, I see. I'd love to root it, but is there a way to unroot? I got the tablet from my job & I want to unroot if they decide to ask for it back; which I doubt, but I don't want to risk it. Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure if HP has the kitkat recovery available for download but I do know that they had 4.3. Since I was rooted I had to manually update to 4.3 and then update to 4.4 ota. That caused me to lose root so I am assuming doing something like that would un root. Again I am just assuming.
yes, hp does have the kitkat recovery available for download. I downloaded it last night and flashed it and now I'm running kitkat. The only issue now is getting back my root. Lost my root after flashing.

I managed to root it using towelroot v1. Rooting doesnt work with the newer version of towelroot though. Just google for the towelroot apk, install it, run it and your HP S7E will be rooted! I'm amazed by how foolproof this method is. Give it a shot!
Hi all I thought I would start a thread for this phone because I just successfully rooted mine! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE DRIVERS FOR YOUR PHONE + ADB DRIVERS INSTALLED! The only method I got to work was jcase's pwn method from the root with restore by bin4ry tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460). After that I installed SuperSU from the play store and voilà! Full root access!
Xposed framework + GravityBox work well.
If this method doesn't work, try Root Genius (you can find it in replies within this thread)(there is also our own forum over at androidforums). Some people have had success with it. And if you've already tried root genius, try this one. It seems this phone is tricky to root as different methods work for different people!

I'm also excited to see this. I samshe the [email protected]#% out of my Nexus 5 and decided to pick up the T-Mobile version of the Hydro Life. Great phone for the price so far (tho the camera is pretty terrible), but I can't wait to rip out some of the T-Mobile pre-installed garbage/interface.

Haha all we got is the stock ROM. And a locked bootloader. The method in the OP should work to root it tho. Then you can get an app like link2sd or titanium backup to uninstall system apps. Be careful what you get rid of tho, I just get rid of the metro/T-Mobile stuff and google+, play books, play games, etc.
Any further developments on this?

i actually used roootgenius to root it, trust me i thought this program was fake or a virus but it worked.
the only thing is im taking the phone back now because the audio quality is horrible and the UI design is for people of years 80+ (no offense)
really good phone with terrible audio and geezer UI designs. (I can barf looking at the dialer)
anyways now im looking for the stock rom because i did root it and deleted system apps with out making a back up -_-.
if i do a full reset will the system apps come back?
i was thrilled to find this post but i can't seem to get mine to work. the phone is on usb debugging mode. my laptop sees the phone but the program doesn't. what am i doing wrong and which mode did you select?

All of the google apps and metro/T-Mobile stuff should be safe. Anything that you can search for on the play store and find should be safe. Anything that's not on the play store I just freeze and leave there since this phone isn't cramped for storage space and I don't know if there is a way to flash a restore as of yet.
My new favorite home launcher - APUS. Much better than our outdated Kyocera launcher.

Thanks for the info. I never heard of APUS, but like I said I am new at this. Thanks again for the feedback

I'm sorry, I should have noted ALWAYS LEAVE THE STOCK LAUNCHER ON YOUR DEVICE!! This is just to be sure that if for some reason your new launcher of choice gets messed up or you accidentally uninstall it, you'll still have a 'backup' launcher. Otherwise you'd be screwed and have to find a way to restore.

Thanks again for your help. APUS is pretty cool. I also have been freezing apps and noticed Google Play Services messed with my wifi and camera. Anyone else have this issue?
none of these methods work for mine, just hangs
installed 64 bit drivers

Can you post details about your phone, model#, USA or international? Possible that we have different phones..? I wish I could remember exactly where and which drivers I got, I probably have different drivers than you as well. Depending on how important rooting is for you, try playing with different driver versions or maybe the 32-bit ones.
Disappointed...

Same here! Nothing's worked for mines either...
I bought my V10 last June and for the first time since my HTC EVO decided that I wouldn't root my phone. I have now come to the conclusion that I need root and after logging in to XDA (after almost a 1 year absence) I see that there's apparently no root for this phone.
Obviously I'm on Verizon - what are my choices for an alternative phone that is in the same class as the V10 but can be rooted? Or is a root solution for the V10 closer at hand?
Albine is almost there. Temporary root has been achieved. It should not be much longer for total root!

Yeah that was back in December...That was awhile ago man and most people can't get it to work. The only progress I've seen on root was a bunch of drama. Kinda disappointing really
I'm still hoping for a V10 root... but it looks like the V20 is rooted:

What is a good choice for a V10 replacement? I really want a rooted phone.

Wonder if we could use a similar method. All we really need to do is replace Verizons bootloader with a debug one like that and we'll be golden.

Is the Verizon version locked down?
OnePlus 3t
Have you looked at this phone?
I have seen of temp root it works it doesn't work etc...
Partial root only...
Does not survive reboot etc...
But...is it enough root to use debloater to stop ota
Currently debloater does not have proper permissions or something
Does...
Temp root + debloater = no ota
Possibly or no chance
Thanks

2 things that would make me hesitate. Battery can't be replaced and storage memory can't be expanded.
Same with the Pixel.

Yes if it upgrades to 7.1.1 which they do in the store... Buy it from Google
If I had twrp port it might be easy to root.. Doesn't seem to exist.. I asked for it already on another thread, but no email.. I'm going to reach out to friend on hangouts and see if he feel like making one. He doesn't have this device so I'm not sure if he's interested.. The theory is this simple.. " fastboot boot twrp.img." once booted into twrp, we can flash twrp. Had to do it for my g4 and it works.. Also, I've seen twrp on locked bootloaders so that shouldn't be an issue.. No one's mention anything about that method though..
I think this died. Not complaining but it's been quite a few months since it was announced root was coming.
Good thing I'm rooted on 5.1.1 still. Would love to see root for Marshmallow (or greater) though.
I think Verizon and their hardware vendors should be aware that I will not buy a product or service if I can't have a rooted phone.
Looks like a Google phone next go around, much I don't want to go that route.
Sorry LG; Sorry Samsung. You won't be selling me anything.
Feel my wrath and consumer power
I believe the LG V20 is rooted (or at least unlocked)...
I tried wondershare, tunes go, I root, but they did not match my phone. Any other options?
Kingoroot apk or pc, kingroot, one click root apk or PC.
I will be getting this device either tomorrow evening or the next day and will try rooting it.
Decided to switch to metropcs, major mistake, and switched back to cricket but had to buy a device so I just picked this one up for free

Any luck with this? I feel like I've tried all the different rooting programs and they've all failed.

I've decided to make the LG fortune my daily driver as my ZTE Grand X Max 2 just has too many system glitches and issues to even run properly, I did the google recover thing when doing a factory reset and it got extremely hot to the point I could barely hold it so it'll just be my hotspot device until I get root on this phone or finally pick up an AT&T Hotspot

I have no idea what this means. I'm just curious if you were able to root your LG Fortune.

Anyone have any luck yet? Would be a good rooted phone
I know this thread is a zombie, but I would love to be able root my Fortune. I got it as a cheap temporary phone when my Nexus 5 power button died and I needed a phone for a few days, but this is actually a very good phone for the cheap price I paid. I still use it as my main device. If I could get root, that would be amazing since a lot of stuff I do on my Nexus 4, 5, and 7 often times require root and I'd love to be able to do this stuff on my Fortune.
I heard there was some LG unlock .apk they released mainly for their more popular phones but could work on the Fortune, is this a possibility?
No luck with rooting LG Fortune sold by Cricket. However, if you just want to allow tethering, there is a simple solution.
1. Download "Settings Database Editor" APP
2. Under "system Table", change the value of "tether_entitlement_check_state" from "5" to "0".
Cricket put up minimal road block on this phone.
