[Q] Help micro USB port - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I had a problem in charging port for my galaxy S3 i9300, and I take it to a store who repare it and it's charging now, but the problem now is transfering data cause my PC is not detactable at all, I've changed many software, cables and PC ports but there's no indication in my phone ( USB icon) which means it's a hardware issue in my phone.
My question is how I can test it I mean which pins must I test cause the phone connector has 11 pins? I can't take it again to repare cause I'm still using it.
Thanks a lot

[Q] Unable to connect to pc (no it's not a driver issue....)

Hi,
Having a problem since a few weeks with my s3.
Normally i could connect wiht my phone to any pc,, without any problems. Either it be unix, win, whatever...
Suddnely it stopped working, only thing that happens is charging when i connect it to my pc. Different cables tested, original one, etc..
Connecting it to different pc's resulted in a no go.. so it must be phone related.
No windows pop up, or anything!!
So I figured: Let's install a new rom.
Tried ultima 15 rom, got a different CM rom now (sentinel)... all to no avail.
Is it possible that this has something to do with my radio?
rom info:
android: 4.3
baseband: CEEMG2
Anyone have an idea what to do? Even ADB push ain't working..
See your identical post
I experienced the same problem when m using the Galaxy Nexus S But it was solved by using the app from play store named SD booster... In this app m just set the value of sd card to 1024 give root access and Boom my phone is connected as normal
If this not help then i seriously recommend you to replace the charging port of the mobile through samsung outlet
Go into developer settings, some ROMs may have different ways to get into develop er setting and after you get in make sure USB debugging is enable ^.^
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Usb debugging is not required for phone to pc connection see basic faqs and guides .
But as OP has ruled out drivers and cable that only leaves the phone so its worth trying .
Usual replies are
Drivers
Cable
Dirty USB Ports
Not connected to main-board usb port .
I had same issue with my Galaxy SII and when i took it to service center they said mother board needs to be replaced.
So after that SII was good as new.
Got same problem here.
phone is charging over usb , but no data connection (tried different usb cables, different usb ports, different pc etc) but nothing..
also.. tried in download mode and so (after reading forums..) but without success.
then i decided to dissasemble that phone and look, what's inside that beast
cleaned usb port (inside, with contact cleaner), resoldered all pins and etc..
reassembled it back to one piece again and still, no data connection, but only charging
so, here i am, what to do next ? change the usb port on motherboard ?
(visually, everything looks right, good solder points and etc.)
Thanks, Martin

if anybody interested:
i've got it working again :victory:
basically, the problem was the hard way (crap usb data connections on motherboard)
soldered new ways for data+ and data-, and now it's back alive again...
(pictures of ways in attachment)
Martin
see you fixed it already but a note to others :
try using usb port right on the motherboard instead of the case front panel usb ports.....connecting to the front usb ports didn't work for me on some roms, but the rear one always connected so I just have a long cable running out of the back to connect my phone and it works on all roms I've used so far
Nice work hani93, i unfortunately do not dare to desolder and solder this stuff
I've noticed another thing though which is weird!!
When i tried to charge my phone via the power charger (the ac one?), when i check my battery view it still says that i'm charging via USB.
I don't think this is correct, i thought it should say AC or something and when charging via USB port on pc it should display USB?
I think this might be one of the issues that it's also not popping up on the computer.
Anyone know what is causing this or someone can confirm that when charging via power supply it should say something else then USB?
Just confirming your question when charging by PC it says (USB) and when its charging from the Mains it says (AC).
hmmm... guess it must be a hardware issue then?
Either usb port or mainboard... christ...
open it up and cleaned the contacts a bit of the usb port...
Still not functioning..

try to go into Download mode (volDown+Home+Power) and then connect usb, same situation?(eg, no data connection to pc ?)
if nothing again.. try to clean usb port inside (where you plug usb cable), sometimes there is dust and etc. then it stops working.
also, how did you clean contacts on motherboard ? i suggest to take soldering iron with clean bit, and drag iron along the pins.

For usb cable detection you can go to settings->Storage-> click on USB computer connection select any of the displayed controls like MTP device or mass storage to create the connectivity . Enable USB debugging mode . Use the official i9100's battery rather than using s3's battery and see if you have the problem of heating
try replacing usb conner cable...
if problem still remains it would be because of faulty micro usb jack, you should replace it with working one.
I did replaced mine and now yhe port is working
Sent from my Neatromed device
I may be omitted to say that it will not start, the galaxy S2 dont boot and my pc sees no device connect, I tested a dozen cable, be it by plugging it into the USB port or started from the battery, it does the same thing he heat at the same place
So, anyone have no idea for fix this problem?

Galaxy S2 i9100 weird USB connection problem in PC even with replacement USB board.

Whenever i connect my phone with USB to PC (windows 10) , it first alert as connected and then again for disconnected and then again connect and disconnect again and again. SO i am not able to transfer any data as MTP/Mass storage mode doesn't work as PC finally doesn't recognize it .
It's not Software problem It's Hardware one. So all solution related to flashing new ROM /factory reset didn't worked.
Already replaced USB cable and tried on different PC with same results even with correct drivers installed.
So it's fault in USB port , so swapped with friend's Galaxy S2 USB Board completely and again same problem.
I tried when i dissembled it but then there was no GSM network and same usb problem. assembled it back , GSM connection came but again same USB problem.
Though it charges but doesn't connect and shows properly on device manager also. Also sometimes it does detect AC charger as USB , then i disconnect and connect again , then it shows normal AC charger connected.
What's the real problem as even replacement USB board also giving same problem ? Is it problem with motherboard ?
HELP , it's very irritating.
Probably not the motherboard....My guess is the wrong version of the usb board.....There are 4 different 'revisions' of this board for the international i9100.
My guess is you brought the wrong one.
See this thread for details......

So are you sure it's just 100% USB problem not motherboard ? if yes then i can get it replaced by Local repair shop in less than INR.400 ($5.97) where he will make me sure it works well.
Sounds like a nice deal right ?
EDIT- I just checked the both my old board and the replacement board from my friend's S2 are same Rev no. 2.3 .
But still same issue though his phone might have USB problem.
Can you make sure it's just the USB board problem and motherboard has no role in it. ? so that i can just get the board replaced without any tension ?
My 'gut instinct' is still telling me that it's the usb connector........
IMO, this type of connector is pathetically fragile and simply cannot withstand repeated connection/disconnection over long periods of time. I have owned a number of devices that rely on a micro USB port, and on over 50% of them, either the port or the plug on the end of the supplied charger/connection lead has failed (and I treat my devices with care).
I have never heard of a motherboard causing these types of issues and I've been active on the S2 forums for nearly 4 years, so I've seen a *lot* of posts....having said that, it can't be entirely ruled out....The S2 is now 5 flagship devices out of date, and I guess that those devices that remain in service will start to exhibit new faults that only age can reveal.....
It's up to you if you want to replace the usb board, but bearing in mind the relatively inexpensive cost of the part (compared to the cost of the motherboard), it's as good a place to start diagnosing the issue as any....it's what I'd be doing if i were in your place......

Thanks , will get the USB board replaced and will let you know how that goes ..
actually i have the same issue
i replaced usb board two times and that changed nothing (one was a new replacement, second that i use now it's an used original board )
still can't use my i9100 with pc
most things i can manage without a pc but still... sometimes it would be easier

Nokia 7.1 autostart when charging (Damaged USB Port)

First off the biggest problem is the damaged USB port. I got the phone from my little brother in this condition and want to use it as a screen for Klipper. I soldered two wires for charging on the traces of the USB-C Port PCB so data transfer using USB isn't possible anymore. Because I don't want to turn the phone on manually every single time I wanted it to start automaticly when it's charging. The missing USB port causes all the problems as all guides I found are based on some kind of computerassisted install. Therefore I'd be really happy if someone could guide me through this mess and potentially also help others
