Root Tether - HTC Droid DNA

I realize there are multiple threads on this. But unless I'm blind - which I may be - I can't find a final solution.
I can not tether on my rooted DNA. WiFi Tether does not work. I have tried multiple versions. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the MSSClamping option is not available. Even still, it won't start.
I've tried 1-Click - that says it requires a subscription.
I've tried FoxFi. That sets up some VPN tunnel then doesn't start.
Any leads for a successful solution?

I have several rooted Roms posted with native tethering enabled, since most 3rd party apps no longer work on kit Kat.
So, the best solution, which works, is to run a Rom with native tethering enabled for all users or modify the Rom you're running to do the same.

Thank you. Unfortunately I'm in an area cursed with the Verizon Trolling of custom ROMs. Anything other than Stock Root results in SMS sending issues.
I'm not a programmer by any stretch, but have been modifying phones for a while based on all of you wizards' work. Is modifying the current ROM a "simple" task?

A little research has shown there is an "entitlement hack" for other phones. Does that hack exist for the DNA?
Still searching...

Just a stab in the dark fur you but.. I would think that sms/mms problems would be from your setup(apn, system selection etc.) and if big brother is tagging you I suggest a firewall.. That said were all pretty much on or used Verizon /Santods rom my tether works great..
Im going to start a thread about every ones ideas..

Thanks a bunch. You may find a thread of mine buried deep on here somewhere about this problem back in Feb/March. I had just gotten my DNA and ended up with the issue of not being able to send. It became a general consensus that VZW was testing some sort of blacklisting of custom ROMs in certain areas. I've not heard of a solution yet. I've tried multiple ROMs, all with the same outcome.
I look forward to your thread and whatever brainstorming comes from it.
Thanks!

Are you saying that "Tether hacked for all users" on the NuSenseSIX ROM will allow me to use what appears to be native tethering... and I won't be charged an additional fee from my wireless carrier?
Thanks for all of your hard work.

Any love on this? Someone point me in the right direction to get sms working on a ROM other than stock?

Network Proxy Settings

Currently I need to use my device on an enterprise network (peap wifi) and the only way to access wan or the internet is to use their proxy.
I need to use the proxy for http but cannot find anywhere to enter the proxy information, I have tried various apps from market but all have failed. Is there a way to access proxy settings? I'm sure the setting is there but I can't find a way to access it.
What do you guys use?

That just talks about 802.1x/peap. That already works on Android 2.2. (In fact it has worked since Android 1.0's wpa_supplicant, but they didn't expose it in the Android UI till 2.0 I think.) Here's a site with a bunch of proxy options, have you tried them already?

Yes I have tried that site with no luck, below are the ones listed on that site.
TransProxy: Not found on market, found it on sourceforge but it looks just a linux binary, not an apk. Is this still usable on android?
ASProxy: $5 fee, no free version
Proxy Settings Android Application: Requires some survey and won't let me download it.
Open Desire: Requires survey I can't get around. (And looks like a ROM itself)
---------
Others I have found on market:
Proxymator: Crashes when I hit OK
http Proxy Settings: Crashes when I hit OK
GAE Proxy: Does not work (won't let me select port 80)
Any others you can suggest?
Oh and if it matters it is a Squid Web Proxy
-Thanks

Don't think so. I know VPN's don't work, wouldn't surprise me if proxy's don't either.
Okay, because all proxy apks don't work.
Thanks!
It's amazing how you can spend so much time on something like this without providing a single shred of useful information. Like a logcat.
I installed transproxy to test it out. It failed, because our kernel is missing the ipt_REDIRECT module. It took me 2 minutes to install it, get a logcat and look at the error messages to find this problem.
Since all of the proxy apps just use iptables, none of them will work without this iptables module. Simple fix - ask WisTilt2 to add it to the config of the next kernel he builds.

How did you get a logcat that was fine?
All mine ended up corrupt after running transproxy...
Dunno. Maybe you got a corrupted download, it was fine for me.
I've submitted a bug report about the kernel module for you.

thanks ;D
Hopefully that gets added to kernel soon.

Auto answer

Is there an auto-answer feature built into the non-rooted Amaze and if not, is there an application that's known to work? I have a bluetooth motorcycle helmet and want the phone to automatically answer incoming calls. Used apps like AutoAnswer and My Profiles on previous HTC phones but they don't seem to work on the Amaze. Anybody using an auto-answer app with success?
No. I can assure you on that. Google makes it in 2.3+ that answering calls requires system permissions for all apps.
I'm an Android 'tard but does that mean that no app will provide an auto-answer feature? Or that Google has created some structure that makes it impossible for developers to create this kind of functionality?
Just wondering if a should keep playing musical apps trying to find one that will auto-answer a call, or resign that it's not going to happen unless I root the phone.
Thanks

I think he means it requires root permissions to work and since unrooted devices can't grant this, they won't work unless you root.
Is it possible to root the phone in order to allow these applications to work, but not disrupt all the existing functionality of the phone? In other words, is it possible to root the phone and have it work pretty much as it does now, or by rooting it, must I also flash a custom ROM? I don't want to lose my WIFI calling, camera functionality, or other issues that I read about when rooting a phone as I lack the expertise or interest to monkey with these side effects.
Thanks,
Scott

How To: Verizon S4 running T-Mobile service with LTE, 4.2.2 with many 4.4 apps and features
This took a lot of time for me to figure out. There were a lot of questions I had to read and a lot of testing of trial and error on my part. Many of the actual ROMs, apps, etc came from other people, which I will name and give credit to. Everything is working for me. LTE, call signal, wifi, hotspot, NFC, IR, EVERYTHING!
I've done some reading on building custom ROMs, but if any of you have more knowledge on an easier way for me to package all of this together I'd be happy to post something for all of you to flash to save everyone's time.
I'll post all of the details, everything I did, and what was needed, but only if anyone would truly benefit from it.
Anyone interested?

This is what I have and have tested. I will mention if I believe other options will work, but it does not mean I have tested the other options. I do not take any responsibility for your phone or data. You read this for educational purposes only and anything you choose to do is at your own will.
With that being said, I never bricked my phone or even ran into any serious problems while figuring this out. The worst I had was testing out different deodexed roms that I had modified, which some would give a black screen on boot. When this occurred, I simply powered off or pulled the battery. I then powered back into recovery, wiped data/cache/dalvik, then reinstalled a ROM that worked. You shouldn't run into any of these problems at all, since I've figured it out for you. Always back up what you currently have before testing anything.

How to root and install custom recovery posted by open1your1eyes0
Find it here and make sure to THANK all those involved: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
What is needed (I’ll get into the HOW TO later, but make sure this list is covered first):
1) A rooted Verizon S4 SCH-I545 model (other S4 models might work, but I have not tested)
2) A custom recovery (I use ClockworkMod 6.0.3.2, there might be an updated version and others might work. I have not tested any other option)
3) ROM: [ROM] [G.E.] [4.2.2] [AROMA] [VZW] GoogleEdition.v6.0 09/11/13 by Dubbsy and hlxanthus
Find it here and make sure to THANK them… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343355
4) Stock Android 4.4 KitKat Launcher & Google Apps Extracted posted by MyDeSTiNaTe

Feel free to test and use whatever is posted there, but the below is what I was able to use and what worked for me.
PreBuiltGmsCore (Google Play Services 4.0)
Velvet (Google Search)
GoogleHome (Google Launcher) Although I’m choosing to use the latest version of Nova Launcher Prime, this worked well.
Gmail
Keep
QuickOffice
Keyboard
Hangouts 2
Wallpaper
5) These other apps for the 4.4 “feel” or due just to my personal preference.
8sms (Stock Messaging, KitKat) on Google Play
ExDialer & Contacts on Google Play
Android 4.4 KitKat Dialer (theme used with exDialer) thanks to Terrance Veigas which posted at this link. http://www.techniciastudios.com/android-kitkat-dialer-exdialerapk/
KitKat Clock on Google Play
6) The modem of your choice. Remember, I am stock MDK and can return to it at any time. I have chosen the MJ7 modem ONLY. DO NOT USE the modems with NON-HLOS unless you know what you are doing. Using these can potentially affect your root.
Find it here and make sure to THANK Surge1223
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298
Now for the HOW TO:There are two different ways to approach this. Depending on your knowledge, one may be easier than the other. I’ll go into more detail later when I have more time and as questions come in.
1st option: Install the ROM but avoid selecting the apps listed above if possible. This will help so that you can install the 4.4 apps later on without having to delete the preinstalled ones from the ROM. After the ROM is installed, install the apps from section 4 and 5 listed above. You might run into some issues with installing apps in Section 4 which is unlikely, but that’s why I prefer my 2nd option.
2nd option (my preferred choice): Open the deodexed ROM and replace the specific apps inside with those you have downloaded in section 4 listed above. Rezip the ROM and flash it. Download and install the apps listed in section 5 after you have installed the ROM. (I suspect there might be questions on details from some of you, but I will edit and add these in later when I have more time.)
During the installation, make sure you select and install the apps not listed in the sections above (4 and 5) that you might need. I believe Samsung WatchON is needed for IR. There might be other better options out there that I’m not aware of.
I selected the KT-SGS4 kernel by ktoonsez during the installation of the ROM. This one works great, but you are free to try any of the others.
After you have finished with one of the options above. You will need to flash the modem of your choice. Remember not to use the modem with NON-HLOS.
After this, go to the Phone Info app which was included in the ROM. Select Phone Information, then change the setting to LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Close the app. You may need to turn airplane mode on and off, only once. I did not have to though.
You should now have your phone running 4.2.2 with many 4.4 KitKat apps and features. Please feel free to ask any questions, offer suggestions, and THANK those above who provided everything we needed. Please do not criticize anyone involved. This is only meant to help those who were looking for a solution, plus it’s my first tutorial.
I’ll add more details as I have more time. I’m working on modifying the ROM listed above with all of the files needed to make this an easier process for all of you to install, but I will have to ask permission from the original ROM builders before posting. I do not know when this will be completed. Give me some time.
Thanks.

[Q] AOSP Guidance

So I've posted in various forums on certain ROMs with questions about things, but I just haven't been able to seem to find the right fit yet.I love AOSP and the ability for customization, Active Display, etc. Maybe someone can help me out here if I say what I'm looking for. Perhaps someone knows if these things are in a certain AOSP ROM. Here's three things:
1.) Hotspot that allows me to see who's connected and maybe name the device that's connected (i have a few things that connect to the hotspot)
2.) Native SMS app that allows me to continue to type after reaching 160 characters (some stock apps stop progress at 160)
and
3.) I know it probably can't be native, but some sort of S-PEN functionality (I use "Screen Write" a lot)
Anyone have suggestions based on this? Thanks for your continued help and development!

1. HotSpot usually has Access-Control which (when enabled) displays who is connecting or trying to connect (you can allow or deny)
2. I've never run into this. I am pretty sure Hangouts doesn't have this.I prefer 3rd party SMS anyway
3. For AOSP S-Pen use CM S Pen Add-on(ROOT)
I hope this helped some, good luck!
Thanks, but regarding your first point on aosp the only options for setting up the Hotspot are ssid, security type and password, is there another spot to bring up access control? Thanks for the other info!

Regardless of ads or not, why do you still insist on using a inferior browser when there are so many others out there that do a better job.

i already mentioned the cause above!......the old version am talking about has a certain feature that isnt working anymore in new versions!.
All you mention is "the feature I'm looking for" or the "cause I'm looking for"
There's no direct mention or explanation of what you're looking for. Maybe more people will help you if you choose to explain a bit more rather than shut down every comment that's trying to help you.

the reason for posting this topic is to get help regarding running an older version of miui browser that installs but closes everytime i open in oreo/pie/q ......it runs fine on other android phones on nougat!!.
specifying the feature thats working on this old browser and not working on recent versions wont help coz poeple who "try to help" would simply recommend using other newer versions or even different browsers!!
if i wanted to shut comments ....i would have simply ignored any replies without a direct solution!!.
Okay, so you know how it works in the software world. Nobody codes everything from scratch. What we do is build upon the work of others to get what we want. Your previous browser would have been built with various libraries that it hooks into to provide different functionality. Now a new one has come out which was installed on your fone and this is using later versions of the libraries and possibly some APIs may have been dropped. So you're trying to use the old browser with the new libraries and it's entirely possible that the APIs/ABIs it needs are no longer available. So you're SOL. You're going to have to run your browser in debug mode to see what's wrong. I hope it works out for you.
