Please as title states, which email app do you guys prefer, on the sg2, and why please. I want to be able to use gmail, so jus want to findout what you guys are using, to receive or send your gmail emails. I also want the option to schedule the sync, so your input very much required.
I use the stock Gmail app for my gmail. gmail isn't my primary account so not bothered by any failings, etc.
I use K9 for my main non-gmail personal account. Am very happy with it, can schedule timings and specify a quiet time, when I don't want to be distured by email notifications (i.e. when I'm asleep).

I use gmail and have set it (via the web app) to collect hotmail and another pop3 account, so it's perfect for me as I have all emails in 1 app, and I do like the gmail app!
K9 Mail Sync settings.

Apologies for the delayed reply.
I think it's as follows:
Menu --> More --> Settings --> Account Settings --> Fetching Mail:
"Folder Poll Frequency".
Also under the above and within --> Advanced:
"Refresh IDLE connection".
I "think" that's what you're after... to be honest mine has always just worked.
Hope it helps!
i like samsung's email app. Only thing i cant figure out is how to put it to push.
I tried the Samsung E-Mail app but it really pissed me off more and more. You can hardly make any settings, just specify how many mails to load (timeframe) and how often to update, that's about it. the funtionality and look are standard.
I switched to K9 mail again and instantly remembered why I always came back to that app. Not only does my Push work flawlessly for both accounts (one business, one private that collects) without any "premium" account hassle making use of that annoying social hub, but I can specify all sorts of settings like how much data to transfer by default per mail, to load images, and many many more.

to make push work you have to set your mail account as an imap account. to do so you need to make it a premium account which leads you to samsung collecting your mails via the social hub ... I'd recommend k9 mail. looks the same, and you can make almost any necessary setting.
The stock Gmail app does everything I could ask for
I switched to EnhancedEmail when I used to have a DHD as the stock email client didn't sync contacts and calendars probably.
Enhanced did all the syncing perfectly, however, it just did not allow Exchange accout contacts to be created or added (i dont really know if the stock email client had the same problem or not).
With the SGS2, i used EnhancedEmail first, but recently switched to the stock samsung email client - it seems to work flawlessly, albeit, with the limitations to customisations stated by others. I use Exchange (both my my company email and hotmail) on Push, and at that, it is good enough for my usage.

Plus the stock mail app draines more battery then k9 due to being more active or active in the wrong way I don't know, but there is a big difference, at least on my phone.
It seems to me strange that I can not believe it ... (and hope I am wrong).
I tried to set up my google apps account as an account of the GS3 activesync email application.
simple options that are usually on the other device (username, domain, password, service ect) here are different ... mahh ... in the "Domain \ user name" ... I tried all combinations: domain.xx \ name \[email protected] with the bar, no bar, with 2 points, commas, capital letters etc etc. ...
The exchange server is the same m.google.com and works on all phones in the world except this one ...
the result always is:"can not connect to server"
If you have suggestions, perhaps borrowed from GS2, are available to test

Why are you doing that?
Setting -> Accounts and Sync -> goggle
Enter in your email and password
I have my Google Apps account on it now using that, has push email/cal etc
yes in gmail app... no in e-mail app
yes, it works in gmail app. What does not work is a google apps account (exchange activesync) in the touchwiz e-mail app
Is not a solution but I tried with k-9 mail and it work ... But I would like to use the samsung e-mail application
I use google mail exchange with the Samsung email app with no issues. Pushes email.
Is that what you are trying? In Samsung email settings, add new account. Enter google email and password, then select manual setup, hit exchange etc

Certainly, gmail works.
What is not working is "Google apps" account (accounts that use google servers www.google.com/a)
It does work. Go to settings, accounts and sync and setup Google there but don't sync gmail . Untick this option. I have reader, finance, and about 6 other Google services all syncing

does it work? exchange with the Samsung email app and GOOGLE APPS account? how can email work if I untick this option?
With the Samsung email app I have gmail setup as exchange. Within the system accounts Google is setup. Goto the gmail app and setup your email. This initially doubles up as your email its setup with the Samsung email account too . Now go to system settings, accounts and sync and within Google untick mail. Try it then key me know it is working. If you can't get it to work you are doing something wrong .

I do not think we understand, it may be my bad English ... However, the problem is not Gmail in exchange on the Samsung email app (it does work fine); the problem is a GOOGLE APPS account (it's a account that have [email protected] and domain.xx is different to gmail.com).
"google apps" account is different from gmail account. the first in exchange with Samsung email app work, the second with Samsung email app work only in IMAP (without push)... i want it in push, as on xperia s, one s etc...
I paste my Google apps settings that do not work
Address: [email protected]
password: mypassword
manual configuration
Domain \ user name: \[email protected] (but I tried it without the bar, with bar, with mydomain.xx\myname etc ... I think I have done all the tests imaginable)
Password: mypassword
Server: m.google.com
SSL: yes
Certificates: yes (but I tried with no)
Doesn't work for my google apps account either. Looks like a bug to me.

it's the same bug of GS2 with ICS..
you cannot connect anymore to a Google Apps account using ActiveSync (Exchange)
the only method is to remove Samsung Email apps, and push Email AOSP..
hope Samsung will fix it asap, because HTC One X works like a charm with ActiveSync and Google Apps
Does anyone know of any fixes at the moment, or sometime soon?
there is no fix untill samsung update...
now work
With the new update ALF5 now the situation seems solved ... I intend to test it better, but now it synchronizes and mail arrive.
You will not believe this
I have been searching and searching and finally found a solution.
Its **** simple.
Carefully follow the directions found here and use the gmail app to add a new account. It worked for me! I played around with every imaginable setting in the mail app and had no success.
I cannot post links... samsung.com/us/support/supportOwnersHowToGuidePopup.do?howto_guide_seq=5790
If you go through the mail app they limit you to only gmail addresses, this is not the case if you go through the gmail app and add a google apps account
My next question is how to view all emails in one box in the gmail app...

How can i update to ALF5? I'm currently on ALE8 and when I go to Software Update, it says there is no update available. Do I have to use Kies or something? Is it only available in some parts of the world? Thanks.
I was also looking for a solution and now Samsung has done her "homework".
Now with Firmware:
GT-I9300 - Open Germany
PDA: I9300XXALF6
CSC: I9300DBTALF4
Version: 4.0.4
Date: 2012-06-27
it works like a charme
So now is all OK and i hope Samsung bring the same solution on the Galaxy S2.

@TaLEntZ96
you can flash any firmeware with the tool "Odin",
use the Forum or Google and you will find a solution.
I am also unable to get my google apps account to sync with the samsung email app via activesync. Any suggestions would be great!
Does anyone know way to sync multiple calendars on one MS Exchange account?
I have couple of calendars (personal and for work) on my Exchange account. After I add the exchange account from settings it only shows the "main" calendar on my account. I'm using the Samsung EMAIL app that came with the phone.
Tried searching google but no avail. So I wonder if this is possible with the default app or some other app?
i would like to know the answer as well, i am looking for the same solution. any help would be appreciated
+1. I think I could probably sync my hotmail calendar with my Gmail calendar as a workaround to get my secondary calendar to my phone, but on all my Moto droids, I always had the option to sync all of my corporate & hotmail activesync calendars - not just the primary calendar. On the GS3, I only have an option to sync the primary calendar.
+1. Just can't believe how bad the Exchange (or ActiveSync) sync support is, even with 4.1 (JellyBean).
One idea: with OWA, you can "publish" each of your calendars with an URL ending in .ics. However, I have not found an app yet that successfully subscribes to that ical-Files. With other systems, it is easily possible to use those .ics URLs...
the RAZR supposedly has a better Exchange support. Can someone port that?
one workaround for the multiple calendar sync from Exchange:
1. in Outlook Web Access (OWA) goto Calendars. Share your desired Calendar(s) to the Internet (but not publically)
2. Install the app ICSSYNC
3. feed the URL(s) from the shared-OWA-calendar to ICSSYNC.
Done. Nuff said.

This is only an option if your Exchange Admin will allow calendars to be shared. Is there another option? What amazes me is that iOS handled this without any issues for the past few years, but somehow, this has not made it in to Android yet? It makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
I've got two Exchange accounts set up and working on my SGS3. Everything syncs as it should, though I had to add them twice to get them working.
JB isn't impressing me much so far - slow, buggy, drains the battery, has wifi issues, crashes without any apparent reason every now and then... but Exchange sync works (for now, at least).
Unfortunately, this is not implemented in Android: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=52270. Vote for the issue!
Another option is to load the app Touchdown by Nitrodesk. I am syncing multiple outlook calendars using it.

There is another workaround which I have not tested yet.
It is from the code.google.com bugtracker above:
----------------
Use outlook.com app.
The Outlook.com app does sync the calendars but it does nothing for tasks. I have tasks assigned to two calendars in the same account. Calendars sync but tasks do not. In fact no tasks are synced with this method. It must be just pure calendar functionality.
------------------
Give it a try guys. I am pretty sure Android 4.3 won't be better in terms of Exchange calendar and tasks support!
To sync all of the calendars in your Exchange-type account, you have to use CALDAV (what iPhone uses as a successful workaround to Microsoft's bloaty-buggy ActiveSync which is what Android uses)
CalDAV-Sync Beta is one such CALDAV enabler. It will sync all of your calendars to the default calendar app. There are other CALDAV apps, but I have not used them.
You will almost certainly have to ask your IT rep what the correct URL is for your CALDAV access.
You'll have to add shared calendars using yet another URL, which will be unique to your installation. Ask your IT rep what the URL is.
This way, you can avoid paying Microsoft for an ActiveSync license. That's $3 / seat this year. In other words, Apple provides a better sync experience by going the cheap route (and avoiding Microsoft's trash).
For Kerio email servers, the shared calendar URL is https://domainname.com/caldav/users/domainname.com/user-name/
for resource calendars it's:
https://domainname.com/caldav/users/domainname.com/resourcename
and for all of YOUR calendars:
https://domainname.com/caldav
Those are kinda standard URLs...
You can find domainname.com by looking up your MX records in DNS.
To set up an Android device the same way that iOS devices do "Sync":
1. Set up email using IMAP (not "Exchange")
2. Set up calendar sync using CALDAV
3. Set up Contact sync using CARDDAV
I'm kind of surprised that no one has created an account settings app that sets those up for you... It is certainly possible to do this in software.
What you gain by going w/ the Apple method: multiple calendar sync + multiple contact folder sync.
What you lose: Tasks, Notes, and Categories.
Things might have changed with android 4.4: http://liquidat.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/android-4-4-now-can-sync-multiple-calendars-via-activesync/
Does rooting give me any access to be able to sync multiple calendars?
multiple Exchange calendars under 4.4?
How is it with multiple Exchange calendars under 4.4?
I tried to use them on my Note2 with 4.4, but it looks like it does not work.
Even with Android 6.0, there doesn't seem to be multiple calendar support using Outlook.com/EAS. Meanwhile, iOS and, of course, Windows Phone handle them just fine without using third-party apps.
My Note 3 with cyanogenmod 12.1 / android 6.01 does sync all my exchange calendars. I used open gapps, and that came with Google Exchange Services 6.4.123892212.
I also have a brand new Huawei 7 Lite with Android 6.0. I installed Google Calendar on this one, and only the main calendar is synced. I installed the same Google Exchange Services version via APK, to no avail. Only the main calendar is visible.
What other components are there that are involved?
Sorry for the necroupping
Hello guys,
I have a common quesiton about synchronising my gmail and Exchange (work) account with my HTC Desire HD Android Version 2.3.5
At the moment I synchronise my gmail accoutn with mail, calender, tasks and phone directory.
For future use I want to synchronise with Exchange from work, even the same functions like gmail.
For gmail I use the given gmail-mail program which is implemented with Android.
For Exchange I'd like to use the "Mail" function which is also a standard tool from Android.
My question:
1. I've seen that there is the possibility to show or not show different calenders, phone books etc. When I creat the Exchange additionally to the gmail account, is there a complete new calender built with the Exchange rules or does it use my gmail calender? The same for phone directory.
I want to avoid that the two accounts will be fully mashed in the future. So, if I quit my workplace I want to delete the Exchange account and all work information will be lost but not my personal gmail account, settings and personal data like calender, phone directory etc.
2. Is the Exchange completely separated to the gmail account?
I'm a littel bit frightend to configure the Exchange accoutn because I don' want to mix up the two accounts.
I hope I wrote it in a understandable way and not redundant to an existing article.
Thanks a lot and regards
The email app and the gmail app are different, are independent one of the other. You'll have no problem, nor with the contacts.

I'm using default GMail linked to Android Google account as only mail in phone. Problem is, that Sense+ designer probably missed, that someone actualy use GMail instead of internal Mail and here comes problem.
Lockscreen productivity tab - mail and calendar shows only calendar, because (I assume) it expects mails in Mail app. And because I use GMail, there are none.
Camera app share function offers by default Mail to send a picture, GMail option is cleverly hidden under More. And you cant rearrange it, so you have to make one more click and scroll to GMail option.
And probably more, just getting used to work with phone and still didnt explore everything. Am I missing some settings where I can choose default mail app representing Mail option in different programs, or GMail works like completely separate app and it has to be supported directly?
Did you download a Gmail app and that is what you are using? I would think in the general mail app that comes installed with the phone you can add a gmail account to it and it would then link to all functions of the phone. Not sure of your question? Are you using a 3rd party app download for your mail and expecting it to work with all the stock mail functions of the phone?
No when you setup your phone first time then you have to link it at least to google (gmail) account. And this account uses preinstalled gmail app instead default mail. If i wanted to use default mail app, then i would have to add my gmail acc manually, resulting in two apps syncyng same mails (you cant selectively disable gmail sync from google account).
Maybe im missing something as relativelly new android user or it looks like that system is set to use by default gmail app for google account defined mail and ignores system mail app, resulting in problems in (and not only) sense apps.

I'm picking this device up as it's announced Friday to be released here in the US on ATT. Until then, can't help much.
What i would try is hard reset phone, on intial setup do not sync with gmail as it asks, then once phone is set up open the default mail app, manually add your gmail account, now see if you get the home/lockscreen notifications you are looking for. If anything it would be a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ issue, doubt it's the actually hardware phone issue. Still though, you would think if you enter your gmail info from the set up prompt that it would sync with the gmail and stock mail app and work with all notifications? Would be dumb not to????
Hopefully can get some clarification on this before friday, if not then guess i'll find out myself.
By default if you fill in Google account during setup it links this mail to GMail app, which is hardcoded in system (cant uninstall, just disable). And it is not the same as default Mail app, which is of course worse than GMail so I would like to keep using GMail. But HTC uses more default Mail in its Sense UI as I mentioned, lockscreen notification (productivity screen) is hardcoded to Mail app only (tested) and Camera is offering Mail in first list for sending picture...

Wow well this sounds very stupid of HTC or whoever made this setup!!! Maybe someone can help us out then and figure a way for Sense and all the notification programs to use the Gmail app as well as the Yahoo or any other hard coded mail app upon intial setup! I know i'll then be in the same boat as you when i pick up my HOX+ from ATT this friday as i use yahoo, gmail, and outlook for work literally all day long! My work is basically through email when i'm not there so to have no or messed up email notifications on when they arrive, i'll be very upset about this!
Maybe a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ bug???
