[Q] New to Android Development and need advice on which Android Device to get

I am looking to start developing android applications this summer and need some advice. I'm good at java programming and have a couple of ideas I'd like to make into a reality. I've aquired several books that I will begin reading but I need advice as to which device I should get that I can test my applications on while still getting a device that would be good for personal use (gaming, web browsing, etc). I also don't want to spend much either ($200 is ideal).
Im not too informed when it comes to the Android SDK (which the android development should help me out with). I'm not familiar with "roms" and things of that nature, nor do I know what the differences in honeycomb, gingerbread cynogen, and all these other things are. I'm not sure if any of this matters for android development, but which device (preferably tablet) would be good to experiment on that has a fast processor and lots of ram (maybe a GB), and won't cost me a fortune?
Also, is there a huge difference in developing an app for a tablet and a phone?
Which is better to experiment on?
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (the first one) and am not sure if it's the best device to work with as far as development goes (because I have it running on Android 2.2)
I've read around a bit and so far have my eyes set on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (im eyeing one for 185$ online atm). I just need someone to basically point me in the right direction as far as choosing the right tablet and where to really start with android development.
Nexus phones are the best phones for development.

i guess for the price range. You definately can get a nexus one.great phone for developing.
I completely agree. Nexus Phones are the best choice.

[Q] Xperia S development

First of all I from what I saw so far that the forums for the Xperia devices are a bit messed imo. A flagship device out for 6+ months cannot have its own separate forums?
Also the S development section is pretty hard to navigate and find the right ROM to suit me. I will probably buy the device tomorrow and I was reading a lot in the dev section and I wasn't able to find a good Sony Stock based ROM with good explanation of functions and bugs, also AOKP and ParanoidAndroid are not having a quality port for this device. This matters to me a lot so it would be great if someone shares their experience with getting good custom ROM and kernels.
On a side note, how would you compare this to the HTC One S? The screen and usb otg are the main thing making me want the XS and the snapdragon s4 on the One S over the xperia's s3 is making me thing a bit.
The one S is faster cuz it has a slightly better processeor and a lower resolution, so the phone doesnt have to do much to operate it self
Xpeira S isnt that big with roms , there are alot of cool things around , aokp and cm10 are geowing , but not fast
If you want your phone for roms and development , buy a galaxy nexus
If no , dont choose one S , xperia S will get better
Hope i helped

[Q] Budget Android device with Development Support?

Hi guys! Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Looking for a budget and by budget i mean something thats cheap and cheerful and does the job for facebook games. This is for a friend of mine basically and I have looked at the phones hes interested in so far but I cant find any that have a development base out there.
Want something that can be upgraded or alternative roms placed on it should he get bored of it. As thus far I've only seen some devices out there on 4.4.2 and would like one that could be upgraded to 4.4.4 or even 5 when it gets released.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Buy a moto G.

Android 7.1.2 Resource usage

Hi there to everyone on XDA.
I hope someone can help me out.
I have a question...
How much resources do Android 7.1.2 use compared to Android 6.0?
The reason im asking this is, I used to have an Samsung S4.I loved that phone but, then one evening the phone just went dead and wouldn't power on again.Dont know if my screen broke or if it's the pc board itself. So I got an Huawei Y560 as replacement which is about half the specs of the S4.I flashed my Samsung from CM12 all the way up to Lineage 7.1 and even used RR 5.8.XDA really changed my world and made me appreciate my phone so much more.Amazing work the developers do here on this site.
Anyhow my S4 ran all these roms flawlessly(Well obviously because the roms was made for the phone),but I am now a bit concerned about flashing my Y560 being at ½ the hardware the Samsung had.
Will the roms mentioned above run smoothly and will I have enough memory to run big apps (memory consuming apps),will the cpu keep up running multiple apps? All these questions make me a bit hesitant.
My main concern is about Nougat (7.1.2) I'm pretty sure 6.0 will run without problems, but I really want to flash Nougat.I will appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks
Kind Regards

Why no development on rOg phone

Ehy no devs here for this phone ?
I guessing the high price.
It's still fairly new so let's just wait and see
i am not buying this phone only because of less devs
Half the features won't work because of custom ROMs unless it's based of the stock ROM.
