hello everyone! title says it all. please answer yes or no and why asap!
im getting bored of stock rom and kernel and i feel like want to have something fun on my phone like overclocking and that ****.
so please tell me does spartan rom and rage kernel combination is good?
i want a rom and kernel with a very very very very very good battery life, and good performance.
or any other rom+kernel suggestions??
no ics please. gb only thank you!
It supposedly is the best for battery life out was one of the first custom roms I tried and found out to be very tast and smooth, rage kernel has good reputation for battery life,,you can also try miui Gb roms which allow a little more customization feats
Hi!
I have the Galaxy S2 i9100 and I have a big problems...
1. I like AOSP so i installed CM10.1 tho it still in nighties,so i wanted to ask what is the best nighty (I tried to look for it but there a lot threads on the i9100 development section about the ROM so i couldn't really find my answer...what nighty is the best for today.
2.I run Siyah kernel and the battery life is really bad (couldn't last even 6 hours in a day with almost all the time screen off! until now),there is a better kernel for the S2?
Thank you very much for reading and maybe answering
There is no best. Nightly are not tested. Computer throws them out. I recommend don't use any nightly. Stick with cm stable ones. Try aokp milestone one. Use stock kernel. I had 1% loss over night. May have bin 2% can't remeber now. But its 4.1.2 not 4.2.2 but great Batt life. Pacman iv used. Good rom good batt.thats 4.2.2 No best mate.

Hi All
Welll my parnter ( and now me) have these phone and are loving them.
Hers is on stock rom and rooted plus tweaked and mines on chameleon 3.0.4(hers will be soon too)... We are wondering which kernel is best for OC, performance and battery?
so the question we are asking is simply what is your opinions on the kernels that are available for 4.1.2?
regards

Really hard to determine whether a kernel is better than any other, since it ultimately comes down to how you use your device.
But since you asked no reason not to share my expertise.
first of all, changing any hardware specifics such as OCing is always a bad idea. Not recommended with any kernel, but thats just me.
Alright after checking battery and performance wise I came to the conclusion that i prefer Apolo kernel (for 4.1.2). Apolo kernel definitely has better battery time (for me) and performance wise is nothing bad either, i mean it's been working good for 4 months now.
Basically, my recommendation is Apolo kernel. Try it out, it might be good on your device aswell.

The kernels that are available are dorimanx, apolo and philz.
Philz is just stock with root and recovery. Dorimanx has very good battery efficiency but is no longer actively maintained. Apolo kernel is a good all-rounder kernel. I recommend Apolo 4.15b as it also includes the music bug fix that is not present in any other 4.1.2 kernels.
Before everyone tells me that this has been covered in previous threads, i read them all and there is nothing worth writing home about within these 'other threads'.
There is not a decent place online where an S2 user can go to find out the BEST choice for his phone. (most people just say: "kk1 worked for me" etc... (which doesnt really tell us much!)
Surely there are tonnes of people with Galaxy S2 i9100 phones with Custom Roms, kernals and Gapps!
from my experience: the S2 phone not good enough to run Lolipop at a fast speed... (its SLOW as hell, and Bad Battery Life).
Kit Kat is also a bit laggy on the S2... (or has someone found a good MOD and kernal of it ?
really, it seems that the S2 performs BEST with Ice-Cream-Sandwich or Jelly-Bean.
or has anyone found a REALLY good KitKat Rom for the S2 which has a Good Battery Life and FAST SPEED ??
also,, please mention what kernal and Gapps package you have and what Launcher you are using
Use Slimsaber 4.4.4 by fusionjack (modified by thunder45) and dorimanx kernel.

In terms of battery life, Slimsaber 4.4.4 is the only rom that could compete with stock 4.1.2 battery life (stock 4.1.2 is still superior to all other ROMs). All 4.4.4 ROMs use more battery than stock 4.1.2, but the upside is that you get less bloatware and more performance. Cyanogenmod may be the most well known for its popularity in the android world, but it is also known for battery problems and other problems too. In terms of performance, Slimsaber 4.4.4 is a lightweight ROM that has more useful features compared to Cyangenmod. Of course user preference differs between everyone, but I've found that slimsaber has all of the neat features I've needed in one package. Where you get most benefits from is by pairing up the ROM with a custom kernel such as DorimanX kernel. The built-in kernel will do the job for most people, but what most people miss out on is all of the performance and battery optimizations and tweaks you get from installing a custom kernel. Yes, there are more things to tweaks when using a custom kernel, but after you get used to it and have played around with it a bit, the effort and time spent is really well worth it and I assure you your phone will feel better than you first got it.
Of course, this is all of my personal thoughts, and I'm a long term user of slimsaber 4.4.4 and dorimanx kernel. Just incase you didn't know, I don't hate cyanogenmod, they are pretty much the pioneers of the custom rom industry, but lately they haven't been up to scratch.

thanks for your info about the slimsaber rom.
I wanted to ask you something about your comment:
is slimsaber the same as slimkat? its the same thing?
and,, also: if I flash the dorimanx kernel and then flash the slimsaber 444 rom, will the slimsaber rom add its own slimsaber kernel and delete the dorimanx kernal ?
- or, is it the other way around? am I supposed to flash the slimsaber rom, and then flash the dorimanx kernal to replace the slimsaber kernel ?
PS:
I will be downgrading from a Lollipop 5.1 Rom.
its too slow on my phone and i'm getting awful batterylife and quite buggy.
i was umming and ahhing whether to downgrade to an unbloated jellybean ROM, or a kitkat one.
maybe I will give your set-up a try (seeing you are giving it a good testimonial).
did you use a minimal Gapps package? or the full thing?

Slimsaber and slimkat are different roms. Slimsaber is a modified version of slimkat by fusionjack.
Yes, when you flash slimsaber, it will replace dorimanx kernel with slimsaber kernel. This means you will have to flash dorimanx kernel again.
It's up to you. I make my own personal dorimanx builds, but I don't optimize them for battery life, I care more about performance and smoothness.

i did a few searches on xda for slimsaber 4.4.4 and saw a number of instances where people are having WhatsApp camera issues and also Skype issues.
do you also get this problem?
or is that now fixed? (coz I use both of those apps quite often).
is this the correct page I should use to download the ROM :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59918959&postcount=17347
(but I see no mention of Thunder45's modification on that page).
if the above issues are still present, do you think i will be better off with the SlimKat version? or something else?
Thanks
Marc

You're better off with slimkat if you use those applications. Skype and whatsapp issues are still present in slimsaber.

thanks again GsStudios
would it be a good idea for me to use your suggested Dorimanx Kernal with SlimKat 4.4 ?
and finally: if you have ever used it, how would you rate the CM11 (standard version), with SlimKat ?
(i'm trying to narrow my choice down).
again, thanks
Hi. Since I am going to RMA my daily phone I will need to start using my old S9+ G965F. The S9+ will propably me my daily driver for quite some time.
So my question is what ROM and what Kernel (based on Samsung One UI) suits best for battery-life in 2021?
No best rom or kernel. Only better roms and kernel. You have to try and see for yourself.

Translation = custom ROMs have serious compromises and aren't proven to be stable, don't bother if you want good battery life or stability.
