Text messaging apps? - LG G Watch

I am considering buying the G Watch or the 360. My concern is the texting app I must use to be able to reply to text messages. I was told I need to use hangouts. I opened hangouts today on my G3 to get used to it and gotta say it kinda sucks. I hate the archive action, lack of customization and it doesn't pull contact photos in for all my people.
Are you able to use other texting apps to get full functionality of Android Wear?

I used evolve sms and know there is another that works but I haven't tried it.

I've been using GoSMS with no problems. I can reply and send text messages using my voice with no problems.

How is the Touchwiz + LG G Watch messaging working so far? I want to use it with my S5 and I have both the G Watch and Gear 1.

So we can install minuum keyboard but do any apps take text input?

[Q] Text Messaging on the Note

Coming from the IPhone, there was one application to send and receive text messages. At my last count, my phone came pre-installed with about three different programs to send/receive texts.
So my first question is what program are you all using for Text Messages and why do you like that program over any other?

What is that one called...again new to android
If the one you are talking about is called messages...then I can't see how to use the S-Pen
My favorite is GOSMS it feature rich and its free give it a look on the Market.
My guess is you will also get recommendations for Handcent which I have used in the past. I think you will find those are the top two.

to the right of the spacebar is a T for text...click it and now u can write with spen and it turns to text. you can even write with your finger. to revert back to keyboard, press the keyboard icon in the same place the T was at.
hope this helps.

Yeah, GoSMS and Handcent are the big two if you're not liking the stock messaging app. Both are nicer in appearance, have more features and have plenty of free or cheap themes available in the market.
I am using Att Messenging for voicemail, but it also notifies me when I have a text. Is there any way to use it for voicemail but not text? I dont want it (att app) to notify me when i gets a text. I want my messenging app to do that instead. (i hope that makes sense)
I am in the same boat as you. I love the note, but I am not as comfortable with the fragmented means of doing things such as texting...Too many overlapping ways to do something simple like texting or emails.
Hell, I am having some difficulty in getting calls...I am not sure if I have the ringer too low, or what, but I miss so many calls it isnt even funny. I always go back and look at ringer volume, but it always appears to be where I left it. But when I am at my desk, it rings through just fine. It must be a volume thing...
But, I am having a fun time learning...

I use Google Voice. Free unlimited texting. It doesn't do mms, yet. But I rarely used that anyways.
I no longer pay for texts.

Does MMS still go through to your phone like it currently does? In other words, do all SMS go through Google, while MMS go through ATT?
If data is shut off mms does not go through. So yes, MMS goes thru ATT data even thou they say you are not charged data to send mms.

I wouldn't call it fragmented. There is more choices on the Android OS and that IMHO is a good thing. If you like the stock SMS app then don't install any other SMS apps. If you like GO SMS or Handcent be sure to turn off notifications on the stock SMS app so you don't get double notified.
I just don't think there is any fragmentation. The user can freely choose what works and doesn't on his or her phone.
I use the stock messaging app. I also use SMSNotifier from mapeapps.com. It does everything I need as far as repeat notifications and a few extras.
The problem is that you cannot turn off notifications in the "Att messages" app.

Yep. That's what I've done. I've frozen all sms apps except GoSMS Pro. No duplicate notifications and it all works as expected!!

I also froze att messages. My handcent app just would not do the pop up on lock screen. After freezing the att messages, it works fine now. I did not have to do anything with the stock sms/mms app. I installed you mail and better you mail and now have visual voicemail. Works great.

You can install the AT&T Visual Voicemail apk from another thread in general, I think. Then you remove att messaging. Then you have to call att, and have them reset your data plan to one with visual voicemail (even if it was already done). Then you can connect the visual voicemail app.
Alternatively, you can just use youmail, Google Voice, or Phone Fusion for vvm.

[Q] How do you solve group messaging/mms problems on the LTE version?

As the title suggests, I just discovered tonight after almost 2 weeks of having the Z3TC, I can't reply to group messages in the stock messaging app. When I respond to a message, it goes out individually to everyone and they hate me for not staying in the conversation. Any workaround or solution?
I heard and scoured the web, and basically I just read I need to download and use a different messaging app. This is unbelievable. It's almost 2015 and this tablet didn't come stock with this?
It's not a deal breaker for me, but darn, it is really annoying and gets my Z3TC made fun of. If I have to resort to a 3rd party app, anyone have any particular preference and why?
Many thanks.
Use the new Google messenger app or hangouts instead. The new Google Messenger app will probably become the new stock SMS app and it works great.

Which Text Messaging App Do You Use?

So I reset my phone back to factory recently, and it has broken some of my habits. When I first got my LG G3 in July I choose the LG Messaging app as default and never looked back. After this reset, the Verizon Messaging app was the default, and I've been using it for a few days. So now I'm trying to decide which is better. I liked the UI of the Messaging app better than the Verizon Messaging app, but the Verizon one seems to have more features. It just feels like the UI isn't optimized for the LG G3 screen though. Some buttons are taking up a ridiculous amount of screen real estate.
At one point on an older phone I even used Hangouts for messaging, but it was screwy with Group MMS and I dropped it. They may have worked that out since...
Anyway, wanted to get an idea of what the majority of LG G3 users are using. Thanks!
I use the verizon message+ app for 2 reasons, first, it has a windows client so i can text from my computer which i love, and second, it has a really good pop up notification feature built in, both of those in the same app made me switch from google hangouts. plus, it syncs so when i switch roms i dont worry about losing any (or at least not many) texts. i have had issues with it not sending mms messages, but i havent tried that on Vanir (i just switched from JasmineROM because i was given info about knock code and quick remote apps.)
I use the Verizon App because it allows me to text from the Computer, syncs to my Tablet and lets me text from there as well, and I like that I don't worry about losing any Texts when I switch Roms. Plus, it has a pretty decent feature-set.
I have always used Textra. It doesn't have the PC to text option, but most of my friends have iPhones and the group messaging works perfect, and the option of removing the message text from the quick reply popup (since I have kids that can read). I have never used the message+ one, so I cannot comment on that.

Handcent SMS

I have been using this app for several years. IMO it seems to be the best messaging app for my needs. Way too many features to list. Is customizing your sms app your thing? Well they have got that covered.
Myself, I have got to be able to customize my app the way I want it in every aspect. Handcent allows you to customize it better than ANY SMS app that I have tried and I have tried all the major ones out there and many not so major. Each contact can be customized to your your needs.
ie: message background for all or each separate contact, fonts (style, color, size) and can even customize the quick reply box as well with differ fonts colors and sizes. Basically, you can customize every single aspect of this app.
It has backup / restore options for your messages and your settings and group messaging. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface on what all you can do with this app. I hope this helps shed some light on the Handcent app for ya.
Starting using Google Messenger after the recent update. A lot more efficient that Hangouts for me and with gif support it's perfect for me.
I use mysms. Pretty cool because it enables texting via a laptop or tablet but the SMS app for the phone is really nice too... Pretty similar in appearance to cm12 messaging app
I use textra sms tons of features but i use it especially for the quick reply option
Currently Chomp; came from Handcent.
Google messenger and I love it
Switched to Evolve SMS, so far so good!

3rd Party SMS with Gear S

Hello everyone! I'm new here
I had a question before purchasing the Gear S... I have a Galaxy S5 and I use Textra for my SMS app and I love it. I was wondering if the Texting feature on the Gear S can go though Textra or will it make me use the Default SMS app that same with my S5?
If it does require me to use the default app. Can I install Fleksy Messenger like I did on my old Gear 2 to replace the default SMS app on the Gear S?
Thanks
Did you figure out these questions? I'm thinking about buying it but would prefer to use Google Messenger instead of the factory SMS app on the phone I'm also thinking about buying (Note 5 AT&T).
Kinda.....
I ended up buying it and when I go to the messaging app on the watch it says I have to change back to the default SMS app on my phone. HOWEVER when I look up a contact and the hit the messaging icon for whatever contact I wanna text it works just fine with a 3rd party SMS app. Let me know how you like the Gear S!!
When you say looking up a contact to text, you're doing that on the watch & not the phone? Still debating on getting it. Love the gorgeous & huge curved screen but not fond of Tizen OS whatsoever besides being able to make/receive calls.
Yup
Yeah on the watch. This version of TIZEN is way better compared to the one on the Gear 2. I love the screen and the standalone capabilities. The apps are ok but could be improved..
I've never used previous versions of Tizen. Just the current version on the Gear S at retailers. Don't really care/need other apps. Just want notifications (in addition to the gorgeous & huge curved screen) for calls, texts, emails, voicemails & calling feature. Opera browser is a nice bonus.
Just go into your gear settings app (on your phone). Go to notifications and select whatever third party app you want (includes sms). I use Textra for my SMS. I get all messages on my Gear S (except for MMS...just alerts me I have an MMS, doesn't physically show it like using the stock app). You can respond using the built in Samsung keyboard.

BBM native for Gear S

Would anyone be interested in the BBM app for Gear S if I was to get it developed and possibly sell it in the gear apps store. Please reply if you are interested. If I get enough interest I will possibly offer it for free.
bbm is dead. If you managed to get a WhatsApp client running would be a completely different story.
That and skype would be on fire.

How much would you pay for whatsapp? However you hardly need whatsapp anyway as with notification for gear s app you don't need whatsapp as the notifications app allows you to respond to whatsapp messages and start new messages/conversations

It's not really a good supplement for real WhatsApp app.
If you were able to do something that could playback voice messages, take calls and send voice messages it would seriously rock.
I'd easily pay 5 bucks for it

Hey does anyone use whatsapp on android wear? Just wondering if it is full app with full capabilities and if you would recommend it and if it isn't, would you prefer the same as what's on android wear or would you rather we worked straight from the original android app? LMK your thoughts on this

I don't know what changes were made since a few months ago to WhatsApp but I've used it - like 2 months ago and it was no different than the integration we have at the moment on the Gear S.

Thanks for your input
If you made something similar that could let you for example use your watch as a Bluetooth playback device and microphone, kind of how calls are taken on the Gear S, it would be just as good. That would work with Skype, WhatsApp or any other call/voice/sound based service - allowing you to take, make and receive calls on the device.
Then all you'd need to do is integrate that with messages and you'd have gold.
Worth real money for something like that.
