Something to replace the back cover - G2 General

I'm going to buy the G2, but I really don't like the back cover (or the back body? I don't know hot to call that) it seems too much made with a low quality plastic, do you know if somewhere there are a shop to buy a better back cover? I really need that

I dont think that you can easy find an custom back cover for the G2 international, and if you remove the cover from your g2 then you could damage the phone if you dont do it carefull, you could order an original back cover and change it yourself but the result may not come out good. I recommend to find an good case since that secures your phone and gives your phone maybe a nicer style/feeling in the hands.

Have you got some advice for a good cover? I have seen the official thread but I don't know which cover chose
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk ( Italy For The Win)

@GaspRulez i cant really give advice since i dont own/not yet the g2. You can buy an cheap tpu case from ebay or you can buy whatever of case you want maybe from big brands i dont know depends on your needs/your style/ your budget. I just buy a tpu case for mine phones because tpu absorbs the drop better then a hardcase and that tpu case is really cheap on ebay, but sending time is maybe long :/1-2 weeks but thats also the reason its cheap. That small investment for a case can save you alot of money and horror if your phone would drop and crack the screen because gorilla glass2 is pretty vulnerable and if that cracks then the g2 digitizer doesnt work anymore.
The old fat gorilla glass1 has been cracked on my lg optimus 2x and it survived so my conclusion is that gorilla glass 1/3 are good and 2 not. Thin is not always better. Sorry for being a bit of topic

Hiho!
i have replaced my back cover...with the red cover one...and the touch is totally different between the black one.
i bought for my G2 international here http://www.rbconnective.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=93_153
free shipping and seems to be Original Case.

There are any back cover similar with the G2 mini's back cover? It's better than the back cover of the G2

Cracked my screen, best screen repair option

There's a seller on ebay selling just the glass for the white model for $26.68. If your digitizer and screen are ok, this is by far your best bet. Even if your phone isn't white and you want to stick with blue, you'd be better off switching the rear cover to white and selling it as a white model. And buy another blue one.
Full screen assembly is $230, which is close to what Samsung charges to replace it.
How high was the drop? Did you have a case on it? Just curious questions...since this phone seems to be fragile due to the large screen.
When I called samsung they said they didn't have a price for the repairs, how did you find out how much they charge?
And also the fall was kinda far onto cement. I was getting out of the car to put gas in and the phone was in my lap and it fell.
Also i had a case on it. The ROCK cases btw i love the look of the case but the screen cracked directly where the case didn't cover the phone which was the top
Someone in the US with an international phone cracked theirs and sent it in.

Will you be using a case on your G3?

If/when you get the G3, will you put it in a case immediately?
I used to never use cases until I dropped and cracked my Note 2, so now I've always used cases. I didn't mind using one on the G2 since the back was a glossy, slippery plastic and I didn't care for it, but the G3 looks awesome and I'd hate to cover it up.

I plan on 2 cases, 1 minimal case for everyday and 1 dual layer for when I know it'll be more likely to take a tumble.

I always use a case to protect the phone. It actually increases the resell value as the phone seems like new after removal of case.
LG made a case for the G3 that enhances the use of QuickCircle™. QuickCircle is basically the use of widgets without turning the whole screen on which can save (very little) battery.
Since my description is horrible, here is a video of it posted by LG themselves:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVtZAPjOcBI
case, possibly a mophie if that 3000mAh can't handle the 4k too well, and if it does, then Incipio. I'm not a fan of otterboxes. Both because I don't ever wanna spend 100+ to repair a cracked anything: I like my phone DAPPER. Also for resell value as well. Thats how I buy new ones.
If I do end up getting a G3, I'll certainly get a case. If I were to guess, a case has saved my Nexus 4 at least twice.
I had seen in a background of one of the summary videos a Tridant stand with an array of different colors. Though Tridant does make pretty thick cases so I'll probably stay away from it. Definitely looking for something with a slim design. Probably get another Diztronic
I dont why I dont like the round back of the g3 amazing device and specs but the rounded back feels and looks bad in my point of view.

Would you be saying the same thing if you dropped it and cracked the screen? *knocks on wood* That you don't be I'm curious how many people would say the same once they drop it and have to buy new phones or get it repaired.
Me, I always get a case since I like to protect my investment and better to be safe than sorry. Plus, having a case has saved my phones in the past.

I hear you but I stopped using cases on my phone going back to the nexus one. I may get a ding or 2 here and there but, knock on wood, I've never cracked a screen. I do use screen protectors and most recently have fallen in love with tempered glass screen protectors.

I never use cases or screen protector on phones, I keep them naked as god intended
In 15 years with mobiles, I never dropped any of them once.
I usually have a case ready for when I go on holidays, to the beach or in any place where I'll toss the phone in a bag. Apart from that, nope.
It's a problem. When you use a case you keep your phone safe from breaking and scratching, but you lose the light weight, the small size and the ergonomic design. I think I'll try to use it without a case this time.
There are slim cases that don't ruin the phone. I am going to get a clear case made my ringkle I think.

I will get hybrid case for protection.
Granted, my Note 3 fell in hard ground few times, but it's saved due to protection of hybrid case.
There was a time when I used to swear by the biggest bulkiest cases to protect my device like a baby for resale purposes. But after many years of seeing that I pretty much never drop my phone (due to the way I handle it) and I'm buying these nice feeling slim devices all the time but the whole time I am just holding a thick piece of rubber in my hand and never actually getting to feel the device design, I decided I am done with cases.
Thanks to the recent introduction of tempered glass screen protectors to the market, I can now have piece of mind that in the rare case I drop my phone screen-side down I would still be able to use it without worrying about a single damage to the display itself. I swear by caseless devices ever since I had the Galaxy S3 and I have not regretted the decision since. Of course, such scenario doesn't work for everyone if you are not OCD-like careful with your devices like I am and are prone to drops quite often. In that case I would recommend a high quality ultra-slim case if you want to maintain the design/feel of the phone with just a slightly different material (matte/rubberized plastic cases can actually feel pretty nice, kinda reminds me of the Nexus 5).
i normally don't like to put a case on my phone as it'll disturb the aesthetic intention of the design. however, if its a slim case that doesn't interrupt the design of the phone, then i might consider one.
This makes me think... All these defeat the purpose of the LG g3 slim design.

I'm the same, rarely drop my phone nowadays and now I use premium screen protectors so the tempered glass protector I just ordered should help the screen from any serious damage.
Not since my S4 do i use cases. Jut make the phone more bulky and ugly. Didn't help my s4 screen just breaking in my pocket from heat change.

Replacement back cover

I'm looking for a replacement back cover. I don't want to go with a case, it only just fits in my pocket, and IDK that I have a whole lot of mms to play with.
My problem is, my wife and I each got one, and they are both black. I almost walked out of the house with both the other day because I wasn't paying attention. If I could do something to differentiate the look a little, that would help greatly. I got stickerboy decals or stickers or whatever you call them, but I can't quite get it to line up (disclaimer: This is almost assuredly my problem, not anything wrong with stickerboy).
Any ideas on a replacement cover or one coming soon on the horizon?

same here!
I hate the cheap feel of the back cover so I was thinking of a skin but I would prefer a simple backcover replacement... I love the wood option on the OnePlus One... I'm still waiting for someone to make this for the G3
I just brought this phone and was looking for a Matt battery cover as i don't want a case too. use to and love the feel of my nexus 5 backing. anyone seen anything like this around?

The official Z Ultra wear & tear thread

The ZU is nearing its 2 year birthday, I've had mine for about 8 months now. So far I have been more than happy with it, although I do have to say I'm quite disappointed with the build quality. To be more specific, the paint job of the aluminium/plastic parts. It literally starts to fall off/rub away, whereas I still baby my ZU. This puzzles me and tells me there is nothing brushed about the 'aluminum (is it plastic?), just an ordinary paint job. Also, I've noticed that the material is rather weak, getting dents easily.
What is your experience concerning the wear & tear of this device?
I must agree that the paint of the aluminium parts is rather weak, my 5 months old ZU already got some of it torn. In addition it gets easily bended, when I put my phone on a table or sth the right bottom corner is like 1mm over the surface. And it scratches a lot, especially the back, seriously I'm only putting it in or from the pocket with no keys or anything and it looks like some really angry cat wanted to play with it. However the front is untouched, despite using pencil a lot to navigate, but the oleophobic coating have gone just after a month and because of it random touches appears. Aparr from these, I have no complaints and sorry for my English, not my native lang
Regards
I bought my second Z Ultra today
The screen on my July 2013 ZU broke with my thighs pressure while I was driving. I thought it was safe but it cracked.
Service centre in India wanted Rs. 10400 to replace screen. Grey market Rs. 8000. And it would lose waterproofing after replacement. New Z Ultra is Rs. 18500. So I bought my second ZU today (Feb 15 make)
Last time a Leather cover was given free but this time its DK30 magnetic dock which is good. I will keep check on price for screen and when it drops I will replace my broken ZUs screen and gift it to my wife who is using my old Note 1
My new ZU is on 4.4.4 so I am thinking if I should upgrade to Lollipop or not. I dont like Lollipop. I used it on Moto E2 and it looks crap.
I have two Ultra and both are in mint condition. No scratches, nothing. Not a single noticeable defect. They move along in cases but still. Have not experienced any denting or anything else that would put them in a worse position so I am perfectly happy with the quality.
I think mine is just over a year old now
Tons of scratches on the back, and some on the front (i don't use a case or screen protector)
I've got it running the latest slimkat and I've got no complaints with regards to this OS
Might be moving onto the Samsung s6
I use a book style cover to protect mine, and it's still in quite good condition. I reckon on having to buy a new cover every 4 months as the plastic frame which holds the ZU cracks or breaks, particularly at the corner where the USB socket is present and there's not enough plastic to be strong.
There's a ding on the corner near the USB connector where I dropped it and the case's missing plastic wasn't able to protect it.
I haven't removed the anti-shatter plastic film on front or back. You can't see the fine pattern of scratches on the front when the phone is turned on. Sometimes I clean the screen with a slightly damp towel, and if I rub hard it polishes out the scratches a bit.
Battery life is still good, I don't think it's diminished too much. Sony have always had good battery technology (apart from when they had exploding laptop batteries!).
Overall then my XZU has been a good phone and I've had good value out of it as I use it all the time - I don't have a tablet, I go straight for a laptop if I need to do proper work.
The XZU is my phone, ebook reader, email reader, news reader, podcast & music player, GPS mapper, instant messaging console (G hangouts), shopping assistant (checking prices in shops with barcode scanner), movie viewer (netflix), chromecast controller (netflix) and occasionally acts as a game console.
My backplate cracked so I used the extended warranty I bought with the phone to fix it.
Sony said they couldn't replace it because its discontinued so they bought out my warranty and phone for the total amount I paid. So I got a free ultra basically.
I fixed the backplate myself. I'd really like to fix the faux aluminum edges. They sell them online but u don't want to go in blind and dissect my phone.
Almost mint here (everything is perfect except that the screen ASF is shinning just a little less than the back one) after eight months. I have two cases, the plastic one I use 95% of the time and the Krusell leather book one that I only use when I think I need an extra protection.
USB protective flap
The Z Ultra has one of the best build qualities IMHO:good: . I do not have a scratch, paint job issue etc. Only problem I had after a year of use was the USB protective flap:crying:. Until it was ok, I used to wash the phone whenever it got dirty. Although the usb protective flap is available on ebay, I'm skeptical about opening, fearing it might lose the original build. If anyone has any ideas - please share.
I put screen protector on my replacement XZU when the one I purchased was replaced under warranty. Only problem is stuff building up in the cracks; dirt, dust, etc. builds up in the cracks of the body, and I HATE that. I also have the ? lens attachment case that I leave on all the time, where the two upper corners have cracked off.

I don't think you have to dissect your phone for the USB flap only.
Just buy a new one on eBay and replace it by fitting the string attached into its hole. ?
Edit: to stay in topic, my Ultra is a D1 unit, exchanged like one month later for another brand new under warranty, and it's been y daily driver since.
Paint have come off of 3 out of 4 corners, but other than that, the phone is pristine.
You should see my old GS3 (which now has my mother in law): all plastic-aluminum-painted edges are broken in several points, there's no paint on the on/off button anymore, plastic back cracked... ?
Overall, I'm super happy and my phone is still as elegant as was when I first opened the box. ?
My screen got hairline cracks twice. Sony repaired it free under the warranty. I also purchased 3 off ebay with cracked screens for under $100 each. I got them repaired through sony for free. $$$$

the usb flap is one easy replacemnt. just pull out the existing one neatly just a little pressure, make sure to hold the extension plastic that connects to the flap rather than the flap itself. When you get the replacement just insert the new replacement the same way you pulled out the old one:good:

I ordered the flap of eBay and replaced it as per your instructions. Jiffy - my ZU is back to being new. Thanks!
Have been using Z Ultra for almost 1.5 years now but this is my 3rd Ultra. First one was silver color and I used it for about a year and since the paint in the side had peeled off, sold it and bought Lumia 1520 but screen was not upto my satisfaction (Size-wise), so again bought Z ultra Black color. Unfortunately, within a week, my kid threw moto360 and it fell on the ZU screen, it cracked and touch is not working (Thank God, nothing happened to Moto360). I Checked with Sony as it was hardly a week old but since it was physical damage, they said it will cost around $200 to replace the screen
Instead of that, I went and bought a new one for around ˜ $250 during Christmas offer. It has slight scratches on the back as I dont like to use back protection while the front is in pristine condition. Eagerly waiting for p8Max/LeTV Max now, provided it is in my budget!

[Q] Looking for a Metal back plate or back cover replacement

Hi, to start off sorry if this is not in the right location.
I thought I might get the ball rolling and possibly spark the idea if it's not already an option for use on more than just one phone.
I really hate my Xperia Z2 for one reason. The glass backplate of the phone can shatter easily.
Sure, you can buy a replacement but the quality is garbage in comparison to oem and I've heard Sony will replace it for 200$ USD? forget that.
I've replaced the cover buying from ebay and amazon and after getting my fourth replacement, it cracked just applying it to my phone...
So my question is, how do I get my hands on an aluminum replacement or some sort of metal that will at least stand the test of time?
I'm also thinking of getting in touch with a sheet metal fabricator, as I see no other options out there or just keep using the phone without a backplate and a bulky case. The Z2 is still kicking ass otherwise so I really think it's crazy to replace my phone that's only a few years old and
let it sit there collecting dust cause of a cosmetic issue.

Metal is a bad idea because it'll block the radio signals. Yes, there's plenty of metal-framed phones, but they all have plastic strips or some other means of not blocking signals. If the phone's not deliberately designed that way, it won't work well. For example, when I briefly had a Note 3, I got one of those aluminum/carbon fibre cases, and even though the back was only a skeletonized aluminum, it still dropped my signal by 1 or 2 bars.
Carbon fibre, however, would be a pretty cool choice. I have no idea the thickness of the back glass on the Z2, but you can probably find sheets of the appropriate thickness, even if it's a flexible sheet. It won't exactly be cheap (probably ~$20 for a 6x6" sheet of whatever), but it'd look really cool and definitely stand the test of time.

Nice, I didn't think about signal blocking. Carbon fiber sounds cool.
