Trying new Roms - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Here I am trying new roms but I know each time I have to reset emails, download apps, set up screens etc.
Is there a short cut/ procedure in order to shorten the hour that it takes me to make the phone how it was.
When I say hour, I mean that I do everything. Staring with running through going the settings list, Xposed program setups, Nova Launcher settings etc
If the answer ends up as no, I'll understand that too
Thanks

Nova Launcher has a backup & restore for your Nova settings and home screens. Titanium Backup can restore your apps and data in batches. It restores my email, messages, Jorte calendar settings, bluetooth pairings, etc. Haven't seen how to restore Xposed yet but there's probably a way.

Titanium will restore the modules as well as all the settings inside. All there is to do is reinstall the xposed installer, and put a check mark by everything you had in modules, then reboot. Good as new!

Question on Titatinum Backup Pro / Restoring home/lock screen

I posted this in a thread in the Themes section, but didn't get any bite, so I thought I would move it here.
Forgive me as I am new to all of this. I am running BAMF Remix 1.6.3. I have Titanium Backup Pro. I have been following this thread for sometime now and like the different options people have on their phones. After I put a lot of work into customizing my home/lock screen using the widget app's, launcher app's, etc...If I were to flash to a new ROM or flash BAMF 2.x, is there a way via Titanium Pro (something else) to get those same home/lock screens back quickly?
After my other flashes, I have used TB to restore my app & app data, but have been nervous about restoring system data, etc. b/c I don't know if I am restoring something old over something new.
Any help on this?
try it, just back up your rom in recovery first in case it doesn't work
usually a bad idea to restore system data. youre not really going to be able to instantly restore your homescreen widgets, etc. when you create a widget its creates a sort of unique ID for that widget. when you wipe and flash a new ROM, that ID doesnt exist, so the widgets are gone. and even in launcherpro when you restore your home screen, all the widgets just show "error loading." so unless someone else has found a solution, (ive never heard of one) you pretty much just have to bite the bullet and manually recreate all of your widgets whenever you wipe.
Im glad this topic was raised and I can live with re-adding widgets BUT
what I hate is having to log back into EVERY SINGLE app, Facebook, Pandora, Groupon etc etc
How can I safely get all that data back after flashing a new rom? I do have titanium pro, but the one time I used it, it was a nightmare restored crap that wasn't included in the ROM like the WidgetPicker app and caused all kinds of problems
You can load App+Data or Data for the apps from TB

Yea just use the batch restore apps + Data. But don't do system data, that never works good.
I back up HTC Sense Home each time and my home screens come out just like I left it, but you do have to re-add Widgets.
Can't remember exact name but it's there in Titanium.

For further education: restoring apps + data restores the applications and settings from apps that you have installed from the market, Amazon, etc. The data & settings are not ROM specific, so they restore well.
Restoring system data has you restoring ROM-related data & settings. Often things are different from ROM to ROM, so trying to restore from 1 to another causes problems. The only system setting I have ever restored was the data for "Bluetooth Pairings", which seemed to work o.k., but since pairing is simple enough, I don't do that either.
Either way, most times that you switch ROMs you will have to redo widgets, even from something like Beautiful Widgets or Widget Locker. Even though you back up those apps & their data, the widgets hook into the ROMs at the system level enough that they don't survive a restore anyway.

That is true for Android widgets with launcher pro, but you can successfully restore any of the launcher pro widgets you use with no problems.

[Q] How can I backup/restore autostart preferences/frozen app states inbetween ROMs?

Hey guys,
First of all a little intro. I started playing with rooting, flashing mods and ROMs few weeks ago. I have been reading the general, Q&A and dev forums a lot and I have made sure from my end that this question has not yet been asked. In the case that these questions have already been asked and answered, please direct me to that thread.
So, I started off with just rooting my phone, few days later installed a custom kernel, few days later started modding stuff like battery icons and like and just few days back flashed a custom ROM for the first time.
After flashing the ROM (Turkbey 32.1 ported to i777 by LilChris), I restored whatever I could using Titanium backup PRO (restored only missing apps+data). But there were few things that did NOT get restored and have to reconfigure all that from scratch. Here's the list of things that had to be reconfigured.
AUTO START PREFERENCES: Is it possible to port the auto start settings to a new ROM? I had configured many apps to not auto start at bootup using Gemini App Manager. But after flashing this ROM, I have to do everything again. TiBU apparently couldn't backup/restore those settings from Gemini App Manager.
FROZEN STATES: Is it possible to preserve the frozen state of apps when switching ROMs? I had to re-freeze few selected apps (I have few rogue apps which I keep installed but frozen hoping that a future update will improve that app's impact on battery. Example: Facebook, Kik, ..) because restore using TiBU simply restored those apps but did not re-freeze them.
Thanks.
A request to the mod: Please move this to the correct forum in case it is not. I keep seeing questions of this genre in "General" as well as "Q&A" forums. So I am not 100% sure if this is the right place for this question.
Wow! About 100 views and no replies? Is my question too dumb?
Let me rephrase the question this way:
How do you guys do backup/restore of autostart pref and frozen states of apps? Or do you care to do that?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "autostart preferences". And, you cant save the "frozen apps" from TiBu. Just refreeze them when you install a new rom. It should only take a few seconds to do that.
I know what he means, and I don't know of a way to take the preferences with you. I've restored an app with data (autostarts) and it didn't take the saved data with it. It makes sense that you wouldn't be able to do it. Restoring nandroids restores it as it was though, but not across roms. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case someone knows of a way.

I use Gemini App Manager to control which apps can auto start under different conditions. For example, I don't want Fluent News to start when the phone boots. If needed I will start the app manually and then let it fetch the latest news. "Autostarts" app can also do the same thing. These apps don't have a way to export my preferences. So when I flash a new ROM, I have to set the auto start preferences of 10s of apps manually. I am looking for a way to avoid this manual step every time I flash a new ROM.

I have over 300 apps and I keep quite a few apps frozen and defrost them only when needed. Few examples of such apps: GPS Status, GTalk, bunch of system apps (even on custom ROMs). It takes quite some time for me to scroll through that app list on TiBU, reading the app names one by one and freezing the required.
Well, just today I read somewhere that I could filter the current frozen apps, apply a label to them and export the settings to update.zip. After flashing a new ROM, flashing that update.zip should retrieve my label assignments. I haven't yet tried that, but will on my next ROM flash.

Not sure if this will help you, but you may want to have a look at Boot Manager (app)

That technique worked for freezing my selecting apps using batch operation!
Alright. One problem solved. Now looking for a way to backup/restore my autostart preferences.

I've used System Tuner (it's on the Market) to do this, that is disable/re-enable individual apps from startup, in the past. It has a LOT of options, can almost replace TiBu (well not really but it does have some backup options). I couldn't find a setting that would easily export/import preferences but I think it puts some of it's data on the sdcard so it might survive wipes.
If I figure it out either way I'll repost.

[Q] Checklist before performing hard reset on Android 2.2?

I have an HTC Desire Z, and it's been acting strangely lately. I hear it play the startup sound when it's in my pocket, meaning the phone has crashed when I wasn't even doing anything. I suppose it's time for a hard reset. I'm very reluctant to do this, but when I missed an important call the other day because my "com.htc.phone" (or whatever) application crashed and I didn't notice, that was the last straw.
What is a checklist of things I should do before hard resetting? So far, I've:
1) Backed up SMS
2) Taken screenshots of all my home screens so as to put the icons back in the same place
3) Taken screenshots of the application settings screens so as to install all the same applications again
4) Taken screenshots of some of the other settings screens, so as to use the same ringtone, background, SMS beep, etc.
What are some other steps I should take? I'm scared that I won't get my phone set up the same way again. My phone is great right now, it's just how I like it - except for the crashes.
Is your phone rooted? If so, TitaniumBackup (TB) would be all you need. You can get TitaniumBackup, free and paid, from the market. TB can backup your screen settings according to the launcher apps. For example, I use Go Launcher and when I do a full backup of Go Launcher, it will backup icons positions and everything else that I have changed in Go Launcher.
It may not be necessary to reset your whole device if your just getting one or two processes force closing themselves. The first thing to check is see if you have installed an app that might be conflicting with system apps (try and remember the last time it was working correctly and uninstall apps that you've installed since then).
If this isn't the issue you can also try to wipe app data/cache for the app in question. I hope this makes sense

Well, I'm not really sure what's causing the problem. My phone came installed with crapware, and lately I've found software installing itself on my phone without my knowledge. I know for a fact the "QQ Security" crapware the phone came with did indeed prevent my phone from functioning correctly.

Introducing: ROM post-setup! apply settings, install apps, etc.

So I've been trying to figure out how to perform post-install actions to my ROM similar to how OEMs do it when you set your phone up for the first time. Here's what I came up with:
This video shows the process of factory resetting your device, booting up for the first time, and post-installing and activating the Xposed Framework along with a module and personalized settings for that module. Please leave feedback on what you think.

Sweet!
Looks cool, kinda reminds me of Sashimi from the Windows Mobile days.
Could this be adapted to restore other settings, like for example, accounts (email, facebook, exchange and the like)?

It sure can
This seems pretty cool... But isn't this almost the same as restoring app and app data with titanium backup or ROM tool box pro?

Kinda.... It's more for ROM chefs who would like to provide an out-of-box experience to their users with pre-defined settings, apps, and more.
This will eliminate the need for all these post-setup instructions that ROM chefs like to include in their OP. It also eliminates the need to store apps in /data/app during flash, because after you factory reset, it gets deleted. This way, you don't need to reflash the ROM and no matter how many times you factory reset, it will set up everything the way the ROM chef intended post-boot.
If I turned it into an app, or found a way to make it more user friendly, end users such as yourself would no longer have to worry about incompatibilities between different ROM versions when restoring things with TitaniumBackup.

Bluetooth / Android Share NFC help....

I'm not sure how or why because I wasn't doing anything special or extravagant.... But my Bluetooth, NFC, and linked connecting/sharing services uninstalled themselves.
Can anyone please post up the apks/folders for AT LEAST Bluetooth... I could care less about NFC I just don't want to factory reset and redo all my customizing :'(
It's quite easy to backup all your settings etc in various apps & launchers. I switch roms regularly and backup all my settings and restore easily. Sorry I can't be much of a help with apks but resetting isn't so daunting

Thanks for the positive influence Craig I just think it might be easier at this point to try and install Bluetooth, 1 thing go do, instead of free installing all the apps I have...
If it doesn't work out I'll try that!

If you are remaining on the same ROM you'll have absolutely no problems backing up and restoring your apps and their data using Titanium Backup. That will save you a lot of time downloading and setting up your apps again.

Will that back up custom manually installed dialer, gallery, messaging, file management, etc? Apps that I've overwritten to change?

Yes, it will backup any apps you have installed and already installed apps and their data. Have a Google on how to use it or watch a YT video about it but it's pretty straightforward. It's very useful for "freezing" bloatware. It's a rooted essential app. Even your texts can be backed up and restored with your Samsung account, or more preferably, an app called SMS backup restore.
