Anyone recommend a good launcher with Sense caliber widgets? I am using Go right now and they have pretty impressive options, but I am not sure it's as good as others. I was using Launcher PRO PLUS and that has some pretty good widget support. My favorite launcher is ADW, but I cannot live without widgets.
In particular, the bookmarks and stock market widgets are the hardest to find.

well as far as launcher I do believe your stuck with GO or Launcherpro that has widgets however if you like ADW I would check out widgets called "android pro widgets" that I think would compliment ADW nicely...

edit: as far as a stock market widget i'm not sure, good luck on that one lol
Just unzip your Fav. Rom and add the apk file to the system apps then rezip it and flash like normal. This is what I do to add the radio to fresh roms

That will put an HTC widget that Flipz removed back in to Sense, but those widgets won't work with 3rd party launchers such as ADW.
Thanks though

I've always wondered if it was possible to use HTC's widgets (specifically the clock and weather widgets) on CM9 or any other custom rom for that matter. I've always been limited to only using Sense custom roms because I really enjoy HTC widgets. Thanks!
Sense widgets only work on Sense ROMs
though there are similar widget skins available for Beautiful Widgets and for Fancy Widgets

even more so with the Sense 4.0 version being much better than the older ones, unfortunately, it's one of the trade-offs of switching launchers, or to AOSP ROMs.

I have a hard time believing these devs can't find a way to recreate that flip clock. They can't rip that out of a sense ROM?

I believe that Sense apps and widgets are proprietary and require libraries that are only found in Sense ROMS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I would also love the Sense clock on an alternative launcher.... Its awesome
The problem is all sense widgets work off the sense framework and sense resources. That's what makes it difficult to port to a aosp Rom.

I was hoping to come back to this thread and see better news. So is it official? No HTC weather or clock on any other roms? HTC really messed up with the way they handle multitasking in my opinion. That is why I need to go to a different rom. I just want to take the clock and the weather with me
see the thing is. it wouldn't necessarily be all that difficult to port them over its just that they can't... their HTC's widgets not googles. there is weird licencing and such around it which is why you can't find anything that looks JUST like them in the market and why they have never been in aosp roms or in launcher other than the htc launcher that comes on htc phones.

So are you saying the creators of these roms may get sued by HTC if they included the clock and weather widget in there rom? Or are you saying it is impossible to find these widgets because they aren't a simple file or apk? Sorry if this is a basic question

both, they're APKs, but they're also 100% completely tied to HTC's Sense framework and files, so they're never gonna be found outside of a Sense ROM, and it's also why they're not available outside of the Sense launcher.
You could try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627140
Sense is built DEEP into the ROM. You can't just rip a piece out of it and expect it to work
Or, you may want to look at these -

Does anyone happen to have the stock calendar widget? For some reason I lost it along the way of changing roms and using apex launcher.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Do you see the stock application installed in your app drawer? If so, the problem may be that you are not seeing the widget because you are not in the stock touchwiz launcher as that is the only launcher where you can use the stock widgets in. Hope that helps.
Ah, you're probably right... Is there a way to make them work with apex?
www.TheShortBusRiders.com
I have never seen or heard of anyone doing that with any launcher specific widgets (i.e. go launcher, launcher pro) so I highly doubt it but will continue to look around and post again if i find anything.
The stock aosp calendar is in the Play store and the widget works great. I have it on my Note with Touchwiz

So I'm still debating whether I want this phone or not. I currently own a galaxy nexus and I must say I like stock a lot. Ive never had sense and I wonder how it is compared to stock. I played with it at the store but I don't think it's enough to determine whether to purchase or not. I hate touch wiz and the moto skin but to me sense has always looked nice. Is it clunky or cluttered compared to stock ? Does the skin make the phone lag at all? Just some information about it would be nice since everywhere I read says it's ugly or bad.

You hate moto skin ? The new one looks great on the razr m... Ok but to your question the sense skin is simply beautiful. They really took the time out to make it look great and the gpu can definitly handle it well. Keyboard sucks tho. And i wish they incorporated true mulittasking lioe touchwiz and lg ui did... One thing you will hate is that sense isnt optimized for the big display so luch homescreen and app drawer is wasted. This can be fixed by using nova or any other launcher.

Sense is fine and it runs fine on the DNA, it's not as intrusive as Touchwiz and it's not as simple as untouched Android. However that's exactly why I don't really like it. With my Nexus phone I get to experience the real android that I know and love. I get updates quick and I get to enjoy watching Android get better and better.
With my Samsung devices I know that I can't expect to get the latest from Google but I actually really like touchwiz for a lot of it's own things. Before the DNA I had the S III for a while and I loved certain functions like swiping with my palm to take a screenshot or putting the phone to my ear while texting someone to call that person. I loved being able to easily play a video on a corner while texting someone or just checking anything real quick. Touchwiz in my opinion manages to feel like a completely different experience.
With the Droid DNA, it feels like I'm just using a nicer looking version of original Android but without some of the nice things like swiping from my camera app to see the gallery right away and flick away pictures I didn't like. Not saying this is a bad thing, I'm sure plenty of people absolutely love that. Personally, i think it's lacking, but I still think the phone is amazing, I'll probably end up getting rid of my Nexus for a Note 2 and then adding some nice rom on this one to make it look Nexus...ish.

You must be thinking of something else. If you replace the launcher, the only things you lose are the widgets that come with the stock launcher, such as clock / weather. Everything else is unchanged.

I personally love HTC Sense. However I have come to love the stock android experience.
Ive used sense from OG EVO, Evo LTE, and now DNA. Sense does some pretty cool things and its VERY polished. On the DNA there is no lag and thanks to the 2GB or ram i wouldnt worry at all about it. Ive never had a single issue with it. Its really organized and easy to find what you are looking for. I would say that its the most complete android OEM launcher. Icons are very polished same goes for apps and widgets. I really dont get why people dont like it... whats not to love about it? sure stock is wonderful but sense is just as good if not better.
Someone else mentioned multitasking windows. a side note to that... its only supported by a few samsung devices running crapwiz and its very under developed. Not even avail. to US devices (without root, please correct me if im wrong on this, i dont want to mislead anyone)
I would say Sense kinda ruined the rest of android launcher experiences due to the fact that Its just really that good. I dare you to give it a whole hearted run through and tell me that it just isnt all that... go ahead try it.

Those are just the widgets though, Sense is much more then the widgets. For example, you have all the great sharing options, the cool animations, lock screen widgets, and all the widgets you mentioned still have their apps you can open. So no, you don't lose sense just by switching launchers, you lose just the nice widgets, and you can find replacements for most of them in the play store. :good:

The Sense seems like an alternative launcher, where as the Touchwiz makes itself seem like a different OS entirely, due to all the Touchwiz gimmicks integrated through out the system.
I honestly love the Sense UI. I've used it since my Incredible, and every custom ROM I've put on that and my Rezound has had Sense. I don't find that it negatively affects performance in any way, and (for me at least) it greatly enhances the user experience. I was helping my girlfriend set up her new Asus Transformer Tablet running stock 4.1 Jellybean, and also her mom's new SIII, and the lack of widgets and functionality from Sense that I've now taken for granted was seriously bothering me. Plus, Sense is pretty

Well it may not be, with the Motorola weather widget all you have to do is put the widget in system/app and use the Motorola launcher. The contact widget may be the same way. It seems that most of Motorola's widgets are tired to their launcher instead of being tied to the framework like Samsung apps are.
OP, try using the Moto launcher and pushing the widget to sys/app and launcher. Here is a link describing what you need to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897306
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/6116-motorola-circles-widget-lockscreen-weather-for-ota-jb/
Use the XDA link first, just know it may not work on AOSP ROMs. AOSP is 4.2 and I am unsure if any of the new Motorola phones have been updated to 4.2, if they have you could get the launcher and widgets from them and it should work. Also if you use the Motorola launcher none of the Samsung widgets, like the S-Note widget and the calendar widget, will work on that launcher. The apps themselves will still work, just not their widget counterparts unless you use the TW launcher.
Also porting framework can be done, it has been done before with one of the Samsung phones. The Dev ported the framework that the Samsung afford and widgets worked on and incorporated it into a AOSP ROM and I think he made a flashable zip so you could add it to any AOSP ROM, AFAIK it has only been done once though and it took him close to a year to do it. Most devs don't want to deal with that though because it is a huge pain in the ass and is extremely difficult to do and the reward just isn't worth it to mossy of them. I can't blame them for not doing it no matter how much I and other users want it.
