SlimSaber: Uber toolchain 5.4.1
OmniBear: Uber toolchain 5.4.1
Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for any damages on your device.
Some of you perhaps already know me from SlimSaber i9100 thread. My focus is to optimize the ROM in many areas and compiled it with custom toolchain Uber for more performance and smoothness.
I choose SlimRoms as a base because it is a lightweight and not a bloated ROM, but it still has rich features. Combined with some of CM features, I bake a ROM that has more useful features but still lightweight.
The ROM and the kernel are tested by me first before I make it available online. I could have overseen something during testing, please be understand.
Installation instructions
Coming from 5.1.1 or another ROM:
Follow the guide how to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery from here
Flash TWRP 3.0 from this thread
Full wipe: system, data, cache and dalvik cache.
Flash 20150515 firmware if you haven't flash it yet. Refer to the FAQ on second post for more information.
Flash SlimSaber build.
Flash Marshmallow gapps (6.0, arm, pico) from OpenGapps
Flash systemless SuperSU >= 2.67 from this thread
Coming from previous SlimSaber build:
Flash the SlimSaber build.
Flash systemless SuperSU
No need to wipe dalvik-cache. The system will do it anyway if it needs to.
No need to re-flash gapps. Gapps will be restored back automatically by backup tool during flashing.

Chamber of Secrets
In my opinion, this is the most powerful Slim feature ever implemented. However this is a dangerous feature which is hidden by default.
How to enable it:
Go to Development Settings - Scroll to the bottom - Tap the empty area
How to use it:
Go to your home screen
Add a widget and choose Slim Shortcuts
Since it is a type of shortcut, you can use it somewhere else, e.g. in Nova launcher's gesture.
Click Chamber of Secrets
Go to https://github.com/SlimSaber/frameworks_base/blob/lp5.1/core/java/android/provider/Settings.java and pick one of settings name
There are two types of settings: A switch setting and a value-based setting
If you are unsure about the setting type, don't use this setting because which value that will be used is matter. You could end up with continuous FC or even a full wipe.
Example for switch setting: show_alarm_icon
Enter the setting name "show_alarm_icon"
Answer Switch question to "yes"
Example for value-based setting: statusbar_clock_style
Enter the setting name "statusbar_clock_style"
Answer Switch question to "no"
Enter the possible value: "0,1,2"
If you aren't sure about the values, don't use this setting

Mobile data issue when using Alpha modem especially with T-Mobile carrier
Alpha modem causes unexplained battery drain
If you haven't flash CM12 firmwares, you need to flash it. Refer to the CM12 firmwares FAQ.
If you already have flashed it, check and change your APN. Don't use the IPv6 APN, here is how to do it.
If all above methods don't work, then you need to use the old 44S modem with an older sensor blob. You still need CM12 firmwares.
Here are the steps of using the old modem:
Flash CM12 firmwares
Flash ROM + gapps
Flash 44S modem
Flash older sensor blob. Thanks to NoSpamDan
Reboot to ROM
If you dirty flash a new build, you need to flash the older sensor blob again, but you don't need to flash the 44S modem again.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58500100&postcount=4610
I have a bootloop when flashing build 01/18 onwards
What is CM12 firmwares and how to flash it
CM12 firmwares are the firmwares that are pulled from CM12 nightly and starting from build 20150118 onwards, it is mandatory to flash these firmwares prior flashing the rom. Otherwise you'll end up with bootloop.
The zip file contains 8 firmwares including the Alpha modem for the partition: emmc_appsboot.mbn, logo.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, rpm.mbn, sbl1.mbn, sdi.mbn, static_nvbk.bin, and tz.mbn
If you are using Multirom, don't flash it through Multirom menu. Flash it through the main TWRP menu "Install".
If you see a bigger "OnePlus One" logo, then you have successfully flashed CM12 firmwares.
You just need to flash this only once as these firmwares are shared among all roms. This means if you flashed CM12 firmwares, then you cannot use KK roms. Refer to the next FAQ for downgrade possibility.

Q: What is the difference between kantjer's repacked TWRP recovery and the official one?
A: It's stock TWRP with a materialised look curtain (splash screen)
Q: What is the repacked TWRP MultiROM?
A: Like the standard repacked TWRP, but it has an additional menu 'MultiROM' to be used to install secondary ROMs.

With stock cm11s camera would be awesome
I think so too, you should add the appropriate Camera.apk since there is no point in having a camera that can't do 4K videos on a 4K device
I know i shouldn't, but all those optimizations stuff led me to download Antutu.. Strange enough i got around 34k which is quite low, isn't it?
Stock cm11s works just download the apk and install it normally.

we all know that, that's not the problem =)
Thanks for this. I know it is not proper procedure, but do you think it's safe to dirty flash this over official slim?
I did, i wiped system and caches, not data though

I am a huge fan of SlimKat... But your roms are new to me.
I read your first post and cannot differentiate how you are different from SlimKat.
Do you simply provide more fixes/optimizations over what SlimKat could not deliver?
I'd love to try your rom, but I'd rather not waste my time flashing it if SlimKat works so perfectly for me already.
I do, however, would like to how how you are different from SlimKat and what you bring to the table.
Many thanks

The changelog should give you an indication of what is new on this. This will be updated regularly compared to Slim. Built using sabermod which gives it an extra oomph. It's like an ever changing Slim with new commits being included. Like the sunlight eligibility is a very new feature.

It comes from my hobby to building rom that is actually for private use and then some users found it on my goo.im. Due to some suggestions from them (rkoby13 is one of them ), I decided to create this thread to share my builds with you.
This build is compiled using SaberMod toolchain and like the official one, it is built from the same source: Slimroms github.
I could cherry-pick some commits ahead from Slimbean team or patches from other repositories that I find useful.
The ROM and the kernel are tested by me first before I make it available online. I could have overseen something during testing, please be understand.
In summary, it is still Slimbean that is compiled with SaberMod toolchain. [...]

========================================
I, Cyril, am not a developer or maintainer of any sort
These are UNOFFICIAL builds, this device is no longer supported by the Slim-team.
The goal is to provide yet another Android 4.4 option for the SGH-i777.
I plan to build as time permits; no sooner than weeklies, and I'll be sure to capture stable releases.
Massive thanks to the @SteveMurphy, @razen_kain, @RenderBroken, @creepyncrawly, @4-2ndtwin, @nimper (and all of the i777 community) for the continued encouragement and support.
Speaking of community support, if the builds develop issues I will need your help finding and ironing out solutions. The biggest tip will be to see whether it's affecting the i9100 or n7000, and what they're doing about it.
If the builds start crashing, well that may be the end of SlimKat on the i777.
Please stop by the [url="http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-slimsaber-i9100-t2350201/post43247085]i9100 SlimSaber thread[/url] and show @fusionjack some thanks.
Happy Flashing
-Cyril
It's a beautiful thing having people who can bring these roms to an old device, many many thanks, sir!
I must say, I am proud of these recent achievements, and I'm very glad to be able to give BACK to the community that brought me along.
I'm just clearing a year here on xda, and as a first-time smart-phone owner, I never thought that I'd be this involved. I just wanted to get rid of the AT&T bloat, and joined because I had a few questions. Now I've got a github account, and am pushing commits, and forking projects!
I won't get too far ahead of myself, I'm still no dev, I don't know the language, and I really don't plan to go that far (although I said that once before). I owe a lot to the fact that the i9100 is SO similar.

good job cyril...:good:
btw, i think you need to maintain the slimcenter ota by yourself since i don't have influence of your update frequency.
basically, you need to change:
the download url of changelog: https://github.com/SlimSaber/packages_apps_SlimCenter/blob/kk4.4/res/values/strings.xml#L74
the ota file: https://github.com/SlimSaber/packages_apps_SlimCenter/blob/kk4.4/res/values/strings.xml#L82
use the ota xml file from the url mentioned above as a template and you need to host this file to your hosting choice which support direct/hot linking. i use wuala file hosting for now...
in this file, you can supply the download folder of the rom.
every time you release a new build, you need to adjust the rom file name (the date part) so that all users get notification if there is a new update.
concerning moving apps: there is a new feature that enables moving apps to external volume. this feature is still disabled for our device. as result, moving app is impossible for now. i'll try to enable it tonight...:fingers-crossed:
concerning scripts: in case you didn't know yet, i have some scripts that you can use to build a rom, generate changelog and send a rom to your device. see here: https://github.com/SlimSaber/scripts
I would echo Cyril's comments... I have an S2, and couldn't stand the AT&T version of JB. Too much crap in there...and having had a gTab before and being well-versed in getting it rooted and custom ROM's on it, I just thought it was natural to come find "this" community. Now, I have a 3-4 year old phone that runs like a champ on the cutting-edge Android...what's not to like about that?
Cyril, I've been fascinated to watch/read your journey through this, and appreciate your tenacity.
And since I'm thanking folks, thanks to SteveMurphy and razen_kain, the former for timely updates to the Res, and the latter for just answering lots of stupid questions patiently.
Excellent work with this rom, everything running great so far keep up with the great work!

Is it possible to flash Renders CWM kernel on this rom? I'm trying it out now but my backups are in CWM, not TWRP. Also I don't think GPS is working on this rom. I tried using Waze and it keeps telling me NO GPS available.
I haven't tried Renders' CWM with this firmware, but I expect that it should work just fine.
If the concern is accessing your CWM backups, nandroid manager is also an option. It can see everything inside CWM or TWRP backups, no matter which is currently installed.

Thanks for pointing me to that app. I'm assuming can you restore an entire nandroid backup from that app no matter what recovery is installed. I don't really care about extracting apps from the backups. I want to do a complete nandoid recovery.

If you're only looking to restore a complete nandroid, I would suggest something more like your original plan:
reboot to recovery > install RB_cwm_kernel > reboot to recovery > restore cwm backup.
I'm not a fan of relying on apps and their scripts to restore complete nandroids.
It's a great app for managing nandroids, thanks to @razen_kain for pointing it out to me.

@cyril279 does this mean that your development/maintenance of SlimKat weeklies is on pause or has ended? Just want to know if we should switch over to SlimSaber instead of waiting on further development of the SlimKat.
Btw... Tried SlimSaber pretty nifty  but some features I prefer from SlimKat so I'm back to SlimKat for now...
Keep up the good work though :good:
I've been getting some really great battery life AND performance on this ROM for a couple days. Battery keeps getting better and there has not been one single hiccup since the first boot. Running stock kernel BTW. Thanks for this Cyril! I can really tell a difference with the saber mod tool chain. Probably going to dd this one for a while. Tried to talk the wife into it but she's a resurrection remix girl now
I will definitely continue building SlimKat weekly.
Just not this next week. Not for either firmware.
I would like to know, more specifically, what you prefer about slimkat.
Poorboyrichy said:
@cyril279 does this mean that your development/maintenance of SlimKat weeklies is on pause or has ended? Just want to know if we should switch over to SlimSaber instead of waiting on further development of the SlimKat.
Btw... Tried SlimSaber pretty nifty  but some features I prefer from SlimKat so I'm back to SlimKat for now...
Keep up the good work though :good:

Thinking about it now it's only 2 things i can remember that sent me back to SlimKat for now.
1. I didn't find the option for me to select which home option I'd like to choose (Simple issue yes I know)
2. I wasn't getting any other account to sync after google accounts were added.
I think there might have been something else, but I'd have to flash again to see what it was.

"home option"?
I'm not clear on what home options you're looking for.
I'm not aware of any functional difference in-between the two firmwares, only SMDK4210 specific optimizations, but I could be wrong.
settings > device [Home] > {choose launcher}?
-or maybe -
settings > advanced settings [Navigation} > Hardware Buttons > Home Key {options}?
Regarding account sync issues, the only time I had problems was the result of dirty-flashing.
Either way, whether OG Slim, or Super-charged Slim, you can't go wrong!

Yes it relates to choosing the launcher that I wanted to use. I hadn't seen that option. Or maybe I wasn't looking in the right place....

My builds are set up to build 11 devices every day with the latest Vanir Sources. Now I can't promise every nightly will work but most of the *SHOULD*. I have tested the builds that my scripts have spat out before and they all work just as well as if I did it by hand. This just saves me time and effort. I am also looking for a easy way to mirror. Google Drive is just super easy to upload to with my scripts but I would love to have a mirror that updates automatically too. Let me know if you have ideas.

They have the exact same base just with new stuff added on top for my builds so it *SHOULD* be fine, but I make no promises. When dirty flashing there is ALWAYS a risk to be had. I dont see any reason why it wouldn't work. Just be prepared to wipe if you flash and run into weird errors.
To be careful I would:
Wipe (/system, /cashe, /davlik)
Flash Rom and Gapps of your choice
Flash Kernel or Fixes you want (Many kernels dont work properly with vanir but I know uber does with the fixes I have made for it.
Reboot to system.

AOSP Kernels need to edit the Ramdisk in order to be used with vanir because it is a CAF-Hybrid. Uber has scripts that it runs when it is installed to make these edits, but MANY kernels do not. I find it doubtful that franco would. The main changes that need to be changed are the PM Drivers because the Vanir Kernel uses CAF one and AOSP use AOSP ones so you need to change where it searches for the PM drivers in the ramdisk.
If you run an incombaitble kernel your battery will drain to no end. if you look in the battery status it will say that the android system is draining all the battery by keeping the device awake. (Basicly the PM drivers arent running) The way to fix this is to edit the ramdisk. There are like 20 lines or so you need to edit. It can be done manually but you cant mess it up or you might get a bricked phone.
The uber fix I have listed fixes some audio bugs that uber and other AOSP kernels have with vanir. In short it is do-able to make franco combatible with Vanir, but the scripts aren't in place and franco would need to do or someone who wants to kang his work.

Check battery settings, power saving mode.
For AT&T I use LTE & 3G , when screen is locked battery savings is activated from 12 to 12 .
Just move the white button down one like @Williamsss said

Using T-Mobile and I double and triple checked the APN settings maybe something with the actual T-Mobile network

SlimSaber: Uber toolchain 4.9.3
SlimKernel: Uber toolchain 4.9.3
Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for any damages on your device.
The rom and the kernel are tested by me first before I make it available online. I could have overseen something during testing, please understand. In summary, the ROM is still SlimKat, with some additional features (see below), but is also compiled with SaberMod toolchain. You can consider this build as a "nightly" and the build from the official thread is stable and weekly.
!!! Please don't discuss these unofficial builds in the official thread. Users can get confused easily!!!
What makes different from the official SlimRoms
Compiled with a custom toolchain UBERTC for more performance and better battery life
Compiled with the GCC optimization level -O3
Compiled with strict-aliasing compiler optimization
Added patches to fix GCC strict-aliasing violation rules
Added ARMv7 optimized string handling routines for more smoothness and more memory optimization
Disabled SQLite fsync to increase I/O performance
Cherry-picked some AOSP bug and memory leak fixes
Cherry-picked some KitKat bug and memory leak fixes
Installation instructions
Coming from stock or another ROM:
Full wipe: system, data, cache, dalvik cache.
Flash the SlimSaber build.
Flash gapps from here
Flash latest SuperSU from here
Coming from previous SlimSaber build:
Flash the SlimSaber build.
No need to wipe dalvik-cache. The system will do it anyway if it needs to.
No need to re-flash gapps. Gapps will be restored back automatically by backup tool during flashing.
Known Issues
Skype call not working.
Use Skype version 4.9.0.45564
Lens blur photos will crash while processing
This is caused by using a toolchain version number greater than 4.7.
"Prevent accidental wake up" display option causes black screen when incoming call comes in
Disable it for the time being, until the bug is fixed

Additional features included!
The main features are the compilation of the ROM with -03 flags, strict aliasing and Sabermod, along with the rest of the optimisations listed in the OP. These are all to increase performance and battery life. But of course, there are some additional features included:
Gesture unlock for lockscreen
Network speeds in status bar
Configure double tap status bar to sleep
Custom system animations
Integrated performance options in ROM
Soft reboot option
Mobile data disabled by default. This is to avoid extra carrier charges during ROM setup
SuperSU root management
Lockscreen Notifications
Advanced calculator with floating mode
Battery saving network mode: Automatic switch to 2G when screen is off.
Smooth scrolling (disable scrolling cache)
Confirm to reboot to bootloader/recovery
For a more comprehensive list, please see this post by Harsha Raj in the i9100 thread.
Mobile data isn't working!!
Once the ROM is booted, go to Settings -> Toggle 'Mobile networks' for data to be enabled.
It's disabled on purpose, by default. This is so when you first flash the ROM, no data is used, as some carriers charge heavily for even small data transfers.
What about theme chooser?
Next post down, look in the "Goodies" post to find flashable themes
Root doesn't work!
Enable 'Developer options'
Go to Settings -> About Phone
Tap on the Build Number 7 times
Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access
Choose 'Apps' or 'Apps and ADB'
How to change DPI?
Currently, this feature hasn't been ported... so you'll need to install Texdroider DPI from the playstore... or edit /system/build.prop and change ro.sf.lcd_density to the desired value
What is the Toolchain?

What is SaberMod?
The term "SaberMod" is coming from:

Caf source is used to compile to bacon, is the main branch for it, as bacon is maintained directly from CAF, and not from google, so it dont have pure aosp as ours do. But i prefer to use caf too, caf is much more optimized now, i could get easily 4h SOT with default kernel settings, no tweaking, no undervoltage on my first private builds. so i would say you to give a shot to caf

I was just looking at lolistats, YouTube adaway, and snapprefs, but installing that zip recovery is what seems to break everything. I know it's early, but I figured it should still work as it does with both CM and AOSP 5.0 roms.

Yes it should, but caf roms, and specially slimsaber, have tons of different things of aosp and cm, in a near future u maybe could get xposed working on caf roms, i am sure that xposed dev, wont give up. Btw, i think u can get similar apps that dont use xposed
xposed doesn't work on slimsaber. some ART optimizations (or perhaps others) that i used make it incompatible with xposed.

Flash the ROM at your own risk.
I accept NO responsibility for what you do (or can't do) with your own device. I am not responsible for bootloops, fruitloops or frickazees.
I DO accept responsibility for: Thermonuclear detonation & Zombie Apocalypse.
1) Backup & Factory reset then flash in recovery:
TWRP 3.0.0-0 (if anyone flashes with a higher version, please report)
2) Flash Gapps (recommend micro) - http://opengapps.org/
3) Screen will blank after a few minutes on the initial startup after flashing, the first boot may take several minutes (be patient, it will boot)
I started compiling this ROM as Unofficial because I have been using AICP exclusively for 2 years (on M7 & now Bacon) and figure if no one objects I can share some of the work. This is my HOBBY.
With that I say THANK YOU AICP (LorD ClockaN, n3ocort3x & semdoc along with their entire dev team) for bringing such terrific work to our devices. Special thanks to LorD ClockaN (motivation, encouragement, help & backbone of Official AICP), Pranav Cherukupalli & the legwork for the sources & kernels by Amaradeep Arora.
I make no claim to doing any more than compiling and making minor changes to what I want from the build. I own this device and enjoy making some minor modifications & tinkerings - I hope you will also. PEACE.
Basic Changes from "Official" AICP Rom:
OTA is NOT enabled on my build
(dirty flashing an "Official" over my build & vice versa does work, most changes I made are cosmetic with some cherri-picks)
I don't recommend "backwards" flashing dirty - so check the build dates
Custom Boot Animation
Unofficial AICP Logos [WIP]
Custom App for Unofficial Wallpapers (Thank you Jason Townley for the awesome Game or ROMs screen)

Recommended Gapps:
MUST flash 7.1 Gapps on the latest build. Tested with Slim's Revisited & opengapps / both boot fine.
Sim Revisited Gapps
TWRP 3.0 - Read this entire page first! If you flash with a higher version, please comment and let us know if it is successful.
- Nandroid / Backup your device!
- Standard factory reset wipe (recommended unless dirty flashing over THIS build)
- Flash Rom

New build 12/14 - new (WIP) TWRP Flashable boot-animation
The 12/12 build was constantly freezing up on me. I was using open gapps and I had a calendar has stopped working report. I was forced to stop using it because of the crashes were happening too often so I didn't get to notice more bugs.
I am downloading the 12/14 build and hope to test it tomorrow. Thanks
---------- Post added at 05:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:40 AM ----------
So spent a little time with it. I turned Google now on tap on and it said Google has crashed. Did that twice and then it stopped trelling me it wasn't working.
Also, when I tried to delete some quick settings buttons, the system ui would crash
That all I noticed but very nice Rom man. Buttery smooth.
Oh, BTW, I noticed I can't customize what the back button does but I can the menu and home button. Is that like that for all mm roms? I've been trying to find one but haven't seen one yet.
I haven't tried gravity box but on other mm roms, gravity box wasn't working. They may have updated it now but at least about a week ago it wasn't working.

Are you using opengapps? I don't use Google Now because of the battery drain, but I tried on the latest build and didn't get any crash with "Ok Google" from voice activated or from the search bar.
I had issues with editing quick settings buttons on 12/12 build (actually reboot), 12/14 was more stable I think too. My 12/12 build was compiled early in the AM (05:22AM), later that day there were some merges for settings tiles that may have not made it into that build. There have been some more changes according to gerritt - I will re-sync and compile again this afternoon.

Yes. Exactly, except the newest build I can not change quick setting buttons. Also, Google now on tap doesn't work. I have not used it yet because no mm roms I've used works with it yet... Haven't tried a lot of mm roms.
Dev for this, will you please add customizable back button. I've got way to used to it on roms now. I don't like doing xposed cause its one more thing to screw up for me. Regardless, I will prolly just set the menu button up if the back key isn't added.

Won't boot for me. It goes ask the way through the gapps (I'm using open gapps full 6.0 arm) and then goes into the boot animation again and just stays there

To God be the glory, my SlimRoms project finally works!
Sleek, simple, slim, SLIMROMS. This is the lightweight champion of cell phones! Not another CM based rom, SlimRoms is based off of AOSP source, with custom edits for a smoother, simpler interface. If you are looking for every feature, check out AOKP, or PAC ROM, but if you want to step back into the simple life on your phone, then this is the Rom to do it.
**** This is an UNOFFICIAL ROM. Install at your own risk! ****
Downloads :
BASELINE Download: The base rom before any changes such as kernels. Everything works, without extras.

Gapps link:
http://opengapps.org/
-Which I personally tested Arm 6.0 Pico.
For T-Mobile phones also download this datafix zip:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/sjjtfcsk2me14pv/5.1.1_N910T_and_other_US_variants_DataFix.zip
Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
International Installation instructions (F, G, and FY at this time, possibly others) :
-Put your phone on the 5.1.1 Bootloader and Modem
-Download ROM and gapps, and put them on your phone or external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using Mickey's 3.0.0-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
-Reboot to system and enjoy!

What works :
Code:
+ Phone calls/receiving
+ Data 2g/3g/LTE
+ Bluetooth
+ WiFi
+ MTP
+ GPS
+ S PEN
etc....
What doesn't :
Code:
- The Camera works, however, the flash often gets stuck on. I recommend using OpenCamera app from the playstore instead, with OpenCamera, this does not happen.
- The edge panel is not implemented at this time. The screen wraps around the edge.
- I have not found any big errors, fault crashes, or problems yet. Please let me know if you find an issue!
This SlimRoms MM ROM was built for the tbltexx and tbltetmo, the International and T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. You will need to edit the META-INF updater script to accomplish this.
Code:

Notes:
Here are some notes about the rom that I thought might help:
Random Reboot issues?
If you are having random reboot issues with the new kernel, you can adjust the settings as follows:
CPU max freq. 2496 MHz
GPU max freq. 500 MHz
CPU governor interactive
GPU governor msm-adreno-tz
I/O scheduler CFQ
That should solve your issue with the kernel. If you want, you may also flash this baseline kernel:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bt4qw03m8jko53a/slim-mm-kernel-baseline.zip
This baseline kernel will always work just fine, however the battery life and performance are not as good as the AKLU kernel.
Using Layers:
Yes, this Rom unofficially supports RRO layering! This is not a CM rom, and does not have the CMTE (CyanogenMod Theme Engine).
So, if you go to the playstore, you can download the (depreciated) RRO Layers manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lovejoy777.rroandlayersmanager
Note that it is depreciated, but still works. I downloaded the Elixium UI theme here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bitsykolayers.Elixium
And installed it. Because of the depreciation, not every RRO layers theme works perfectly, and may not change everything the way you want. However, you can see the screenshots here, the first screenshot is the original settings menu with the Slim Stock colors, and then the second is the RRO Elixium colors. You will have to play with themes to get them to work how you want, but there are lots of options, so have fun!
If the screen looks red-ish, check the settings->display->live display options, you may want to turn them off, it is a low light sensitive display option.
Airplane mode - While switching between WiFi and regular data, on rare occasions, the phone will get stuck where you have data or WiFi with the ! mark and no connectivity. If this happens, you don't have to reboot, just hit airplane mode, give it a second, then hit it again to get everything working again.
T-Mobile users with device model = unknown:
If you are using a N915T (like myself), then after you flash the datazip file, you will notice that your phone reports itself as "unknown" to apps like XDA, TapTalk, About Phone, etc.
The fix is very easy!
-Open /system/build.prop in any text editor
-Anywhere in the file, add this line:
Code:
ro.build.model=SM-N915T
Save and exit, then reboot your phone. You can check "about phone" under settings, you should see yourself as SM-N915T, and apps like XDA should report you as Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Setting selinux to permissive: (Now permissive by default.)
See @oscarmaldonado post here for one of the many ways to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69235667&postcount=17
Apps:
OpenCamera - The Slim stock camera gets "stuck" with the flash sometimes, so you can either turn off flash on the stock camera, or use a different app. I used OpenCamera successfully, with no issues while using the flash, you can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera
Side App Bar - This has a semi useful side "edge" bar feel.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=infamous.apps.appsbarfree

Works great here. I am guessing that you mean, how to install an apk without the play store?
Go to settings -> security -> unknown sources.
Make sure that is on. This allows you to install apk files that you have downloaded.
If the apk you wish to install requires root, you can enable root by tapping repeatedly on settings -> about phone -> build number, this will enable developer options. Then you can go to settings -> developer options -> root access, and change it to enabled for apps.
Aptoide is a great Google PlayStore alternative if you want a way to keep your apps up to date without Google.

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble.
I am using this rom right now, and I can install all the .apk files from my sdcard.
Can you be more specific about the problem? What happens when you try to install them? Does it give you an error?
Here are some generic questions that may help us figure this out:
-Which phone specific model are you using?
-Did you flash 5.1.1 modem/bootloader prior to this rom?
-Did you do a wipe before installing?
-Which gapps did you use? Is it Arm 6.0?
-Have you installed anything else (supersu/xposed/etc.)?
Thanks,
Maybe we can get to the bottom of this.
There is a new kernel thread for these roms, you can find it here:

Now includes the Nightmare governor!

Pretty stable, I have been using it as a daily driver for the past 3 days. No issues. The only bug is that the flash for the camera causes problems on the built in app, I have been using open camera without the flash issue. Be sure to grab the kernel from the above kernel thread for better battery life.
By God's grace, I just now figured out how to fix the recents button. I have it working as a menu button on my phone as we speak, and I am building it into another rom update! However, if you can't wait, or want to do it yourself, it is really easy to fix:
Using ES File Explorer or similar, open /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl.
Go down past "key 226 HEADSETHOOK"
and add "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Then, open /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl.
Go down past "key 212 CAMERA"
and add "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Then, open /system/usr/keylayout/sec_touchkey.kl.
Edit "key 254 MENU"
Save and close that.
Now, reboot your phone and the recents button will be a menu button!
Another build will be rolled out soon with this built in.
Praise God! A new build is up!
Check out the OP for downloads. The latest build fixes the RECENTS button, which didn't work at all, which is now a MENU button.
I dirty flashed this over my old Slim6 build, be sure to dirty flash any datazips if you are using those too. You do not need to reflash Gapps if you are dirty flashing. As always, be sure to make a backup before proceeding!
thank you so [email protected] for fix recents button
let me flash new slim build rom!
i suggest you can name the rom name like Slime V2.0 when you release new Slim rom.
that's more easy to distinguish.
A while back I made some boot animations for Slimroms. If you are interested, you can check them out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/slimroms/general/homemade-slimroms-boot-animation-t3377271
Nothing fancy, just some simpler, slimmer boot animations.

Sent from my unknown using XDA-Developers mobile app
The latest build is in the op, you can just download and dirty flash to fix this if you want.
If you do it by hand, the first two files you add that line, the last file you edit 254 to say MENU.
I hope that helps!
Hey all, I edited POST #4 with the following information about random reboot problems, if you experience this, then use these tricks to make them stop, or use the baseline kernel to ensure you don't have those problems ever again.
Random Reboot issues?
If you are having random reboot issues with the new kernel, you can adjust the settings as follows:
CPU max freq. 2496 MHz
GPU max freq. 500 MHz
CPU governor interactive
GPU governor msm-adreno-tz
I/O scheduler CFQ
That should solve your issue with the kernel. If you want, you may also flash this baseline kernel:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/bt4qw03m8jko53a/slim-mm-kernel-baseline.zip
This baseline kernel will always work just fine, however the battery life and performance are not as good as the AKLU kernel.
Great work alaska ! Love your devotion and dedication .
The OP has been updated!
For the group, I am planning to change the way the OP lists the release in the Downloads section of the post.
I have a released a build entitled "BASELINE", in this case, "Slim-tblte-tmo-xx-6.0.1-UNOFFICIAL-20161108-BASELINE.zip". This BASELINE edition has the original kernel, with everything working as it stands. That way, any who want the modified kernel can grab it from the kernel thread, and not have to worry about it being built into the rom.
So, if you have any problems with the rom, give the BASELINE edition a try. It is really rock solid. The other releases will have other kernels and posibly other options in the future.
