*** [07/08/2011] Free version FIX! *** There WAS an issue with this app not working for putting he NOOKcolor to sleep in the latest CM7 nightlies, including CM7.1RC, and BN 1.2. I have just released a new FREE and DONATE version with a configuration option to fix this! Sorry for the delay!
DONATE version with transparency, custom color, sizes, icon style, and reboot/poweroff/ask options on press:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.otis8.nookpowerfull
LITE (free) version with no options, sleep button only:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.otis8.nookpower
Update, v0.4.2 (DONATE version)
* Added configuration option (when placing the widget) to fix the sleep issue not working in newer builds of CM7 and (hopefully) BN 1.2.
Update, v0.2.1 (FREE version)
* Added configuration option (when placing the widget) to fix the sleep issue not working in newer builds of CM7 and (hopefully) BN 1.2.
Update, v0.4.1 (DONATE version)
* Attemped bug fix for an annoyingly spurious force close issue
v0.4.0 (DONATE version)
* Added four icon size options
* Now choose from three icon styles
* New icon preview area during configuration
v0.3.1 (DONATE version):
* Fixed possible issues with power off sleeping instead.
* Removed need to wait for power off dialog confirmation. When you press "Power Off," you mean it!
* Important! "Power Off" is now immediate on widget or dialog choice press, similar to reboot! No longer does it wait for the standard Android power off dialog!
v0.3.0 (DONATE version):
* Added full custom color options
* Added reboot and poweroff on press options
* Added option to ask what to do in a dialog popup when pressed
* Added ability for multiple widgets with different color, transparency, and action when pressed
* Now requests root access when configuring the widget
Description, from the Android market:
*** FOR ROOTED NOOKcolor USERS ONLY! ***
NOOKcolor Power Button is a home screen widget that (guess what) is the SAME THING as pressing your power button. So it puts your device to sleep/reboot/poweroff, without reaching for the hardware power button.
This is not just an app that blanks the screen, which is why it requires root. It actually emulates a real press of the power button on your device.
Seriously...it doesn't work at all if you don't have adequate root access to your device. Root access is required for real power button emulation if you are running Eclair (Android 2.1) on your NOOKcolor. It also works with Froyo (and Honeycomb?) as well.
Please contact the developer (me, the OP) with any issues!
very nice... just installed via market and its running nice.

Good deal, thanks for the feedback! I made it as a side project for something else...but I am finding it useful on my Nook as well. I'm not a huge fan of the hardware power button.

Been wanting something like this. Running fine. Thanks.
do you mind sharing the CODE? I've been trying to figre oit how to make a toggle widget and just can't seem to get it to work. Thanks!

What kind of toggle? This is a one-shot widget, not really a toggle of sorts...
I ran into some interesting issues at first with another app of mine that has a widget that toggles -- Softlocker (the donate version has a widget). PM me with specific details of what you want help with, so we don't clutter this thread.
Thanks! I've been wanting something like this.
Could someone explain to me what the draw is? I don't own a NC yet, but I'm interested in what makes this an attractive app. I'm genuinely interested, but I can't find a way to type my question without it sounding sarcastic.
Thanks!

It's ok, I understand. I'm the developer of the app, and it was just a little side project I came across while working on something else.
Anyway, the draw of this app is simply that I don't like always having to press the physical power button to put my NOOKcolor to sleep, it isn't the most amazing placement or feel to it, and I can make apps, so I did.
And somebody 1-starred it already, without leaving a comment as to WHY or what they thought was wrong...awesome. That is so lame and unhelpful. The app is dead simple -- if you have true root access, and a NOOKcolor, it should work without fail.
Can any of you who may have downloaded it please give it a rating in the Market?
MAN that chaps my hide...
Any way to change the color of the button ?

Sure, if I make a new one. What do you want? I suppose I could pretty easily make an option that is dark instead of light, if that is what you are going for.
Great app, i use something similar on my N1 to save the power button.
Suggestion: besides color options would it be possible to have the option to set the transparency?

Possible, yes. I believe I have opened a can of worms, haven't I!
Would it be worth a cheap "donate" version of the app to have a couple of color options and the ability to set transparency? I might do it for free as well, though.

I like the way you think! I will work on that. (after my day job, of course)
I appreciate the feedback!
Thanks for sharing your work; it gracefully puts the screen to sleep, unlike the power button, which flashes brightly before shutting the screen off (dunno if others have this issue as well). Thanks again!

I'm not sure if I have noticed the flash you are talking about on my NOOK, though. Interesting.
Works great.. a 50 cent option to adjust colors, size, icon and transparency would be a nice addition..
i just downloaded your app and it works great. you should definitely post a donate version on the market. color setting + transparency are easily worth a buck or two.

Hi, on my Head Unit 800x480 the "Volume Bar" is not displayed in its entirety. Left and right the icons are not shown and the background is completely black.
I will soon if possible a photo to upload.
Thanks
Sorry for my bad English.

So I see that the icons are not fitting entirelly. This is related to screen DPI you have. Your ROM - is is a stock one or some custom ROM from this forum? I never used stock ROMs, reflashed to custom one almost immediately. Most custom ROMs have setting for screen DPI, not sure if that's true for stock ROMs. I'd suggest you to play with the DPI, just raising it for a minor value should help.
But what do you mean when you say "the background is completely black"? On your photos, the background looks like it should.
The ROM is here on the forum.
Thanks a lot for your help. I will try it with changing the DPI.
With the black background that was my mistake.
EDIT:
I've changed the build.prop
ro.sf.lcd_density=240 --> 225
Now it looks good. Thanks a lot for your help.

You wrote that you had DPI set to 240 - this is normal setting for the 1024x600 screens as far as I know.
For 800x480 it should be something like 160 or 180, don't remember exactly.
Anyways, it's just for your information, and it is up to you to choose what is better for you.
Okay thanks
I installed this in my RK3188 1024x600 unit and while I get the cool new volume bar when I use the volume slider from the notification panel, it doesn't display when I use my volume knob. Any ideas?

can you make an option to move the volume bar from the bottom to the middle? I have the one knob unit on the left and when you turn the volume rocker your hand blocks the first 30% of it.

I don't like an idea of adding options screen for such a simple plugin.
I'll think, maybe I better compile a separate version centered vertically, it seems to be simpler a lot.

Unfortunately, no. All the graphics in this mod are the PNG images. To become green, they need to be redrawn and replaced in resources.
I'm afraid I don't have any motivation to do that, you need to understand: this was only a simple mod for myself, that I decided to share.
Also, the white is the color that fits any color scheme, this way it will satisfy the most audience (unlike green, red or whatever else)
For instance, I have a Volkswagen with all the buttons and gauges on the dashboard highlighted in red.
Still, I didn't choose this bar to be red, because white is good enough. But green would be a total crap for me.
By the way: in the xposed repository, there is a link to my github with all the source code of this mod. Anybody may feel free to fork it and make any changes they want.

In the Xposed repository, there is a link to full source code of that mod (Github). It is free source, everyone can fork it and do whatever he want.
You can install the Android Studio and compile these sources in it.
Or, you may take an approach with the software like APKTool which allows you to unpack APK files, change resources and repack it back.
Anyway, you'll need to learn how to do either, on your own.
Sharing my little work, I didn't take any responsibility as to provide any further support or even teaching people programming At least, I don't have time for that.
Those little tips are worth it . I.m going to work at this. Learning is a process
Hi,
I'm curious what features all of you use in ROMs or what optimisations you would like to see (CAF, a custom toolchain, etc...). This just crossed through my head while I was working on MR and a project that I will release soon. Do you guys use Xposed, do you use a custom launcher, what features do you use in other ROMs, do you use a specific DPI that you feel is more optimal, do you like custom branding or do you like the stock (if the former, feel free to make some. I'm not good with that stuff), what should I name it (I was thinking something Star Wars related), is there a custom kernel you'd like to see, do you use a custom HAL, do you use the stock dialer and messenger, etc...
This will be a long term project with no release date that will be concrete. Hopefully you guys will provide me with feedback. It will be specifically for the X as I have no plans of switching devices for a long time.
Here's another thing too. I'm doing this to teach myself. I think I brought it up once before, but I will make stupid mistakes and I hope a few of you can help me with it. I really do appreciate it. The main goal is for me to familarize myself with the device tree and with Git while providing you guys with a solid ROM
Thanks guys,
RJ

Hey,
for me are the importants things:
-layers or cm Theme
-customizable status bar
-switch back and recent
-make status bar invisible (fullscreen/immersive mode)
I use stock dialer/messenger and so on, snapdragon camera and also xposed for some tweaking. I use a custom kernel if my rom is not fast enough for me and the custom HAL with 4k recording too.
I hope this helped you,
regards from the "bad-english-speaker"
Good post, (p.s i hate star wars themed roms) pls no
auto brightness button on pull down bar
some apps like sony apps or something (so it's different to all the rest)
Well, stability and battery life conquers all. So to be precise , I like oos with dark theme and yeah custom kernel . I wish I could use Sultan's fix for camera but with that I can't use manual mode. Most of the features of cm can be added through gravitybox . Nova launcher is quite good and smooth, so I would suggest not to put much effort on launcher customization.
I see that you have taken a lot of interest in Kernel optimization and tweaking, so may be that's where you should start. Wish you luck for your projects.
Interesting thread, personally, as long as the rim has these, I'm happy :
Buttons configuration (especially hardware ones) with double and long press actions.
Layers (or cmte, but I've read layers are lighter?) in order to have a nice dark ui.
Ram bar and close button on récents.
There are so many other things that can be useful like use volume rocker to answer call, flip phone to mute call, switch to 2g when connected to Wi-Fi, enable max brightness (with custom kernel) for few minutes when in sunlight, ambient display but not during night (I hate my phone to light up in the night if I try to reach a water bottle or a kleenex lol) or gestures like swipe up on screen of to turn on and unlock the phone.
But most of these things are possible using Tasker.
But if you ask me, there are so many different (and not so different) roms out there, that I think to get glory, a new one would maybe need some awesome exclusive apps like SMS, camera, or maybe just good optimizations.
The less features in a ROM - the more stable it is. That's why I prefer Stock or CM Stock ROMs. But, anyway, the most useful features in my opinion is:
1. Playback Control (Prev/Next track with Volume buttons) - any ROM without it is almost unusable for me. Taking the phone out of the pocket each time you want to skip a track is just unbearable.
2. Double-tap to sleep - if dt2w is present, than this is a must-have feature. Peaking at the phone without even touching the power button is quite useful sometimes.
3. Viper4Android - Yes, I understand that this is a completely opt-in feature but I found myself installing it every time on every phone. The sound is just not right without it anymore.
4. STOCK Dark Theme - for some reason, every other "dark" theme developer out there thinks that theming Phone, Google Play, Messenger and other apps is cool. No, its not and its usually a weak point of any theme, because when the app gets updated everything goes to hell. I will make my own dark theme someday in a spare time. Probably based on OOS theme, because this one was actually cool. At least Android N will deliver it built-in.
Would love to see EAP-SIM authentication for WiFi in a ROM. I've tried a few and some seem to support it but I always get an "authentication error" when I try to connect. (Living in Singapore and trying to connect to SingTel WiFi, if that's any help!) So yeah, EAP-SIM support would be awesome to see in a ROM. Thanks!
And all the best for AOKParadox!

See my AOKParadox thread. I will implement the stock dark theme at least until one based off of OOS becomes available.
All I want to see in a ROM is its ease of operation and to easily see the important details.
1. Status Bar - Accurate Network Speed Indicator, Dual Clock (timezone), Date (with day of the week) & Gestures such as double tap, slide and quickpulldown
2. Hardkeys & Tristate Keys - Action Assignment (screen off, screenshot, power menu, kill all apps, last app, etc.), Single Tap, Double Tap & Long Press
3. Lockscreen - Disable Power Menu
4. When Screen is Off - Double tap to wake & Music Controls gestures
5. Others - One-handed Keyboard Operation (i'm a lefty), Ram Usage Status in recent apps

I saw multi window in purity ROM, but it has cm theme engine
Hi there,
I'm new to XDA so I apologize if I am posting this on the incorrect forum.
I have Oppo F1 Plus (in some region it is know as R9) rooted and running on Color OS V3.0.0i Android 5.1 lollipop.
Using the code qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 (which pre-existed in the buildprop) I enabled myself the onscreen buttons.
Using root browser I turned off my recent and back hardware buttons and 'keyboard backlight controller' app to turnoff the backlight.
However, the onscreen buttons' opacity is way too low. I would assume around 15-20%. I tried using various apps like 'navbar app' and 'softkeyz' but both failed me.
Is there anyway to increase the opacity of the onscreen buttons to max using buildprop or root browser or any other method?
Thank you.
Im sorry to say but there isnt.
By default the On screen button should completely be opaque completely.
Try Downloading any theme for theme engine if possible.

Oppo has a pretty close OS and there is little to none development for this device.
I really want to change the notification panel and onscreen button color. but none of the apps are working.
I think the root cause for your problem is the Color OS
Due to high modding , The Framework has been completely modified and because of the fact you dont need a on screen button , they must have left it as it is.
So to fix this , you have two options:
i)Mod Stock rom by yourself
This is a difficult to do process because you have to deodex your stock rom and then you have to decompile and recompile your framework-res.apk
ii)Try Cyanogen 12.1
Cyanogen is an Open Source Android OS which is the most used Custom Rom.
Cyanogen is Completely debloated and provides you high customization

Thanks for replying,
you are right about the framework, since my onscreen buttons do not recognize landscape mode and keyboard.
I know about custom roms, however with this build of cm12.1, I would to lose my sim calling capabilities. I guess next time I will buy a phone after researching on its support in XDA.
Thanks!

I suggest you to buy phones with Purely Stock Android with No or less modding.
Mostly they have the highest support from Devs
And yeah , Avoid Mediatek as much as you can.
They dont provide source codes and it is because of that there is no Dev for Mediatek.

Hello! This is a bunch of tweaks I created to make Samsung devices better by modding the interface to really polish it. Enjoy!
Installation
Installing is simple. Navigate to the play store and download the required packages.
Substratum
Substratum Required Addon For Samsung
Samsung System Mods via Playstore (RECOMMENDED)
Samsung System Mods Direct APK (BACKUP)
Tips
- A reboot is usually required to apply the tweak.
- Some tweaks are incompatible on some devices.
- Oreo is in beta (until I get it)
- The nav bar heights are broken on the note and oreo. I can't fix it. Sorry.
- I can do requests. All I ask is you consider donating.
- You can hide status bar icons. You must use another APK: SystemUI Tuner (from the play store)
More mods are coming! Please leave suggestions for more mods you want so I can try and make them. I've been getting lots of positive feedback. Also, Tigerhoods, Pimpmaneaton, Venom, and Crayonyes have been helping me a bit, so big thanks to them .

Remove Unlock Text & Remove Status Bar Battery Icon (not percent) --> Work great. Big Thx.
THIS IS AMAZING!!!
The Disable Nav Bar tweak works perfect.
Before this tweak, I still applied the "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" line to the build.prop file, but with that, I lose the ability to take screenshots with the combo buttons (power + vol down).
Thank you for this awesome tweak!!!

I would like to do that too but I have yet to figure it how
The ability to remove time/date from lock screen
The ability to remove shortcuts, time/date, and unlock text from lockscreen
Either of which within your power?
This is probably beyond the scope of this project and doesn't seem to be any real answer. I've tried substratum clean lock and it doesn't work fully on samsung. Would be awesome if this is some magic you could work
If not, no worries. What you've got going on here is quite nice and much appreciated!

Ability to remove shourtcuts, you can do in settings/lockscreen. Without any mod.
To remove the unlock text, 1st page in this thread.

I'm aware what's in post one. Apparently, my wording was really bad lol. This was more or less a request to make 1 mod to remove time/date, and if it's possible to do that, then perhaps 1 mod to incorporate them all together as one mod - just to avoid having to download and install multiple mods.
However, I honestly hadn't seen the options to turn off shortcuts on the lock screen. So thanks for that!

Remove unlock text is already one. I can try the time / date / shortcuts though!
Great work Dev...

Here you go, this should remove lock screen clock. I also have one that will theme it so it's not quite so ugly.
The aod hides are working great for me! See my attached screenshot
Thank you for these modifications. Hiding the clock and battery kind the status bar are my favorite mods.

Wow beat me to it! Nice work here! Only side effect I see is that the "Emergency Call" button text is transparent (#00000000). Will take a go at it, see if I can change the clock dimens instead of the color. If I can't get it to work, I'd be totally happy to add your APK to the OP and assign full credit for it if you want.
And if you're interested, maybe we could discuss more modding over Telegram. PM me if you are interested

As much as I'd love to take credit that came from someone else, although I have been modifying existing overlay apks pretty extensively, and I could use some motivation to setup Android studio and do this right
