Hey guys,
I recently switched to a Mac and I am having a hard time performing a simple one way folder to folder sync from my Nexus 5 to Mac. On Windows, I would use a software called SyncToy which allowed me to select the folder(s) from and to which I wanted to sync and it would do the rest of the work. It was simple and elegant.
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find any similar solution for the Mac even after a lot of Googling. I have tried using the Android File Transfer program. However, if I want to copy from one folder to the other and it finds duplicates, it only gives me the 'Skip' option. Since there is no 'Skip All' option this means I will have to click as many times as there are duplicates.
An program called CheetahSync exists but this program requires a WiFi connection and the sync cannot be performed using USB.
Aside from this topic, what is the directory path of the folders in my phone, when I connect it to my Mac? For example, in Windows the path of any folder in my Nexus 5 would be "Nexus 5/Camera/...".
Any help is appreciated. I am sure there are users out there who are using Android + Mac.
Thanks.

My hero is running modaco 2.2, but I don't know how to install my .apk's as sync doesn't work I understand I can run an adb or soemthing I'm pretty much a newb. SO step by step would be nice.
You can put your .apk files on a web server on your PC and grab the files from there using the browser on the phone.
Also you can install an ftp server like swiftp on the phone and then use an ftp client on your PC to transfer files to the phone. Then you'll need a file manager to install the .apk.

why would you do that??
Just cos Sync doesn't work (which is a good thing really, it's a pile o' ****e!) you can still copy the APK files to your phone using the USB cable; just mount the sd card.
then copy them across and open them on the phone using a file manager like Astro.
Sheesh, why do people always try to make stuff more difficult than it needs to be.....?
Ah yes, you're probably right . I don't use HTC Sync here (it doesn't work on Linux), so I thought his whole USB driver does not work so he could not use USB.
But I guess he still needs a file manager to install the .apk files once he has them on the phone, right? I tried to find a downloadable file manager .apk yesterday, but couldn't find one.
Now I have a question how do I run ADB commands like all the ADB-Install "instert apk here" things I've rooted and everything, but I don't know how I run those commands?
A step by step would be nice of everything I need to have, and what the commands would be.
dude, forget the ADB commands.
see my first post.
And BTW, even though HTC Sync doesn't work on Linux, the USB drivers for mass storage do, or at least, my Ubuntu rig running 9.04 happily saw my hero and copied stuff across to it in mass storage mode.

Hi ZeeShh,
In german Windows Phone 7 Forum this question was answered with a "No". But they show up 2 ways:
1. SharePoint, but it's not for free
or
2. Mail your excel/word files to your WindowsLive-account, download them, save them and so you have them on your phone.
Both ways are quite horrible, but in this first version of OS the only ways.

Hi there,
You could also use HomePipe. It's basically a folder sharing utility that allows sharing over the internet. The application is available for Windows Phone in the marketplace
You basically install it on your PC and set up folders to share, then use your device to browse these folders and the files you click are downloaded via the Internet.
However, this program requires a free registration!
An alternative could be to just set up a simple web server and put data to download to your phone there.
I tried and found that emailing the file and then saving the attachements on your Mozart is easiest and safest way. thanks guys and let's wait if miscrosoft comes up with any idea.

try windows live setup on pc, download from microsoft.
also windows live mesh..
Yes, I did search. I didn't find what I was looking for.
I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 player running gingerbread. I'm trying to access files on it from my WinXP box via wifi. This seems like it should be a very common thing to do, but I simply can't find it. If I plug it into a usb port, I can access the drives. Can this be done via wifi?
Again, I want to access the android from the PC. Not the other way around.
Thanks for any help.
Three possible solutions pop into my mind (I guess there are many more):
1) Use a ftp server on the phone and access the files using that.
2) Use AirDroid or a similar app. It will give you wireless access to your phone's file.
3) This includes something that you said you didn't necessarily want to do but should also work: Use an app such as ES File Explorer and connect to your Windows XP PC via network. You can share a folder over the network (with write access) and then you can copy files from your android to your pc. But I guess that is the least ideal solution of the above.
I hope that the apps mentioned above are available for your device and that a method works.
Thanks, Fabur. I'm sure one of them will work.
The reason that "android -> pc" isn't an option is that much of the time, I'm using it as a wifi camera to monitor what my dogs are doing elsewhere in the house. But it would be nice to be able to access the files on the player from my pc.
I'm trying to access a share on a Mac from Android. The share is on a FAT32 external drive, and I can browse/access it from another Mac and from a PC. But when I try to connect from Android, I get an error on the username/password (same user/pass as I'm using from other Mac and from PC). This happens with both ES File Explorer and AndSMB. I've tried both checking and unchecking the "Windows File Sharing" checkbox on the Mac, using anonymous, and two different userids (one a login user, the other a "sharing-only" user). The Android tablet (Galaxy Note 12.2 running CyanogenMod 12.1/Android 5.1.1) can access Windows shares but I need to get to some stuff on the Mac. My phone (stock GS6) is the same--can access Windows and my router's USB share but not the Mac.
I'd like to use SMB instead of something like file transfer because I want to stream video from my Mac to my kids' android tablets on a long airplane flight.
Searching didn't turn up anything useful so I'd appreciate pointers to threads where this has been discussed.
TIA.
Bill
I have just spent the last 90 minutes trying to find an answer but to no avail...
I have a Windows 7 PC and a rooted Google Pixel 3XL phone running Android 10. When I browse files via MyPhoneExplorer versus using X-Plore (which is an app that uses root permission), the number of files seen is radically different, X-Plore shows MANY more. So, here's the question: What apps/programs do I need to see all of the Android's files from my PC?
Thanks.

Some file explorers are better then also for a rooted device I go with root explorer

Thanks, but... Please provide a specific link, hopefully to Play.Google.com, to the exact app of which you are referencing as 'root explorer' yields too many hits.

If you really want to do it from within PC, not Android device, you do it via ADB
Code:
adb shell "ls /"
jwoegerbauer - Your idea probably works, but (pardon this), it is so last century - a command line interface to see a list of files? Is there, perchance, a MS Windows-like program that I can use?
