[Q] new to root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I want to root my Verizon s4 using the towel root method . I am running 4.4.2 and my question is do I need to factory reset before I run the root or can I just get straight to it and leave things such as nova launcher as is and root away? I'm me to this board and rooting to so I'd like my first one to go fairly smooth. Thanks Jesse

No need to do anything before beginning towelroot

Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. Now let's get to it! Thanks. Any thing I might need to keep an eye out for before I make it rain? Thanks. Jesse

OK I downloaded towel root, root checker, and titanium backup and super su. Everything worked perfect and it does I have root access so what do you guys suggest first. What are your favorite apps that require root? I'm looking at the lmt app that has the pie for toggles looks like but I wanted your feed back in what you use the most. Thanks Jesse

Someone had the same question the other day, here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2846920

Thanks it's nice to know that there are forums like this to help keep me from really screwing up my phone. I'm sure I'll do it anyway but at least I can ask how to get it back. Thanks guys. Jesse

[Q] Oneclickroot feedback

As a newbie by name, I have been looking into a easy way to root my Note 2 from Verizon as they have a lame multi-window list. I tried oneclickroot after reading about but they were not able to root my device. What is your experience or option of oneclickroot, and how easy is it to find a good rom that will allow for a biggerlist of multiwindow apps. Thanks in advance.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118348
You cant one click root because you have to unlock the boot loader. As far as roms with full multiwindow....... anything under andriod development in this forum. Original android development has no multiwindow. Also, once rooted, check in the apps thenes section for transparent multiwindow. Love it.

If you are talking about Adam Outler's one click root using casual, then keep trying as it will get you where you want to go.
Most problems come from bad drivers. Just read the thread very carefully, and you should be fine. Once you are rooted and unlocked, you can choose from several roms. Personally, I use beans, which has all apps available in multitask.

Before I root...

Before I root my GS4....I'm a bit confused on how you actually backup your stuff in case you want to revert back to stock. I've read about using Titanium, but dont you use that after you've already rooted your device?
I just got my S4, never used android before and really want to give rooting a try....but not without knowing how to safely restore my device. Sorry for the noob question....I see plenty of info on rooting, but not restoring.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
You don't really have to worry about losing any data when you root. Just follow the instructions to root and then back up with Titanium Backup. It's probably my favorite app.

If you want to return to unrooted stock, go here. It will return you to factory software. Choose the One-Click version to make your life easier

Thanks for the info guys....appreciate it!
btw...is it possible to use the Google Play store after you root?

slower after rooting?
Not slower. Imagine on a Windows computer administrator permissions. Rooting allows you administration access on your phone. Everything still works. No slow downs or any changes other than you can modify system apps

Will I have to have one of those apps that hide your root for the store to allow you to connect, or should my phone act as normal?

[Q] Using Sky Go on a rooted S3 with Cyanogen

I know there have been PLENTY of threads on xda trying to solve this and I've asked questions on the threads themselves and I'm yet to receive a reply. Can someone please give me a small guide (if possible ) how temp unroot.
1. Rootkeeper or any other app on the app store doesn't work when root is protected for me
2. SuperSU uninstall doesn't work for me
3. Flashing a zip to remove SuperSU and Busybox didn't work for me either.
There isn't a file with the name 'superuser.apk' that I could find.
Can anyone help with my predict? I really need to get this working before US Open

BTW I actually don't mind unrooting my phone for a few weeks as long as I don't lose data or backup. If there is a way to do this (which isn't considered a temp root) please let me know

Have you tried the temporary unroot option inside superuser. It always works for me?

I've just tried that and it didn't work. I don't know what the Sky Go app is detecting but I keep getting the same popup that Sky Go doesn't support rooted devices. But thanks for your help anyways mate

I also tried using Android 4.3 which seemingly doesn't have root access, so I don't know what the app is picking up.

Is this a country locked product? Also if it is free can you please provide a link to the application or maybe upload it, if I need to pay I will look into it

Sky Go is an application which allows people with a Sky subscription to watch TV on their devices, whether it be a tablet, phone or PC. I'm guessing u live outside the UK because Sky is quite popular here. As for the app, it is free, however you need an account to access it. Here's the link to it in the Play Store anyways.

I'm not sure if you can have a look at this without an account but let me know anyway buddy.

So we have root... now what

I along with a bunch of people have root and am just curious what are some of the things you guys are itching to do or have done right away. I figure this could be a place where we share ideas.

Removing all the bloat would probably be the number one thing people Will be doing.
But rooting allows so much more.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
1. Titanium Backup to remove bloat
2. Get Google Wallet back.
3. Get all my Tasker scripts that required root working again.
No more ads...

I installed Wallet right from the Play Store... haven't rooted my phone yet.
1. Titanium backup
2. no more ads!
3. AutomateIt (it's like Tasker) now can control app specific GPS on/off toggle.
4. I'm going to debloat the crap out of the phone
5. GMD GestureControl (get my swipe to Alt-Tab between apps back)
I almost never get a phone before it's been rooted, and in the few days that I've used the note 3 without Root, I've come to realize that rooting is pretty important in my day-to-day usage.

Are you able to pay with Wallet? I thought we could install it but the Verizon Note 3 would not allow us to pay with it.
What do you mean no ads. I have no ads now. What about DPI. Note 2 was all about 240 DPI. what's the hot DPI now.

[Q] Updater App

What app do I freeze to stop the "Android System Update" pop-up from popping up? I can't seem to find it.
Thanks for any replies. I can't seem to find it through a Google Search and want to make sure I don't freeze anything I shouldn't be freezing.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
The effectiveness and the apps you want to freeze depend alot upon root.
If not rooted all you can really do is go to the system update apps and delete the data, clear the caches and disable the one you're allowed too.
I may well be wrong but that's all I've found being without root again.
Look up the debloater program for root if you have root and it specifies exactly what you want to do, while providing a nice clean utility to do so.

Is there a way to update to 20l from a rooted 20j without having to unroot?

My phone is running great and after installing the Xposed framework it's amazing but I do have slow Wi-Fi at times and it seems the update might fix that.
