[Feature Request] LED Notif while Charging - Paranoid Android Features Development

I am not forcing any of you to add this. But uf possible. I'll loved it.
LED light is great while charging. I see it on other devices like Xperia Z.
When it's charging the LED lights RED (Not blinking)
When it reaches 95% the LED lights Green.
Just sayin'. Bashers go away.

If you checked our gerrit, you would see this has been turned down. Reason being that it requires we modify things at a kernel level (at least in the case of the nexus 5) and since we ship the stock kernel we have no intentions of making device specific changes for this feature.
The reason those other devices have it is because they are using cm kernels so it's not a problem to have the modifications in place for it.
This will not happen any time in the near future
#stayparanoid

Okay Pirata. Thanks

This question is unrelated but I didn't want to make a new thread.. Would it be possible to add an option to allow quick pull down from the left side?

[Q] Power LED indicator?

I've seen LED power indicator mentioned in a few reviews, but couldn't find it on photos. And I don't have Prime yet, only original TF.
So, is there really a power indicator on the power button on the tablet itself?
Also, if it IS there, I have a suggestion. There's an app Missed Message Flasher on market, which flashes LED or hardware button highlight on my phone (which don't have LED) when you got a new notification. Why don't someone make similar app for TF Prime? So with any new notifications it would flash even if screen is off.
I've found myself pressing power button just to check if I got a new messages in IM or a new email quite a lot during everyday use. Would be very useful just to look on the tablet and see if anything require my attention (new notifications) by flashing LED. Hope it's not too dim for that purpose, and power consumption should be miniscule. Yeah I know it's playing a sound when I got something new, but this isn't so convenient and I could be absent at the time when new message appears. Flashing or pulsating LED would be quiet and nice.
Maybe not as app, but as a part of custom ROM - I suspect this functionality would require root.
Because it's in such a weird place you would never check to see the color of the light

Its so small and located in such a way you would have to be looking directly at, its probably not worth it.
Well, in very bright conditions - yes... But in not-so-bright-usual-geek-dungeon even blinking reflection on the table or wall is enough. Again, I don't (yet) have one to test the brightness myself, so this is only a speculation

As others have said, the light is too small, and in a place that the odds of having it in your line of sight would be minimal. You would only have a 25% chance that the top edge of the unit would be in line of sight. Good idea, really, but it plain wouldn't work well enough to be worth it.
BTW, it IS on the power button itself, which leads ME to a question. How is everyone's power button? Mine is stiff as a day old dead dog, and I find myself squashing, pushing, pushing again to get the unit out of sleep mode. My OG Transformers (all 3 of them, have a nice springy detent of perhaps 1/32" - 1/64" (damn America for never adapting the Metric System! I don't know my milimeters from my water meter) The new button is just a mush,, with no noticeable travel)
Ive seen something that ll make a little envelope bounce around on your screen,
though im not sure how battery intense this is (then again this thing has a mamoth batterylife so I wouldnt care!)
This is one reason I still sport my Nexus One which is my main messaging device. I love the RGB glowing trackball which my co-workers all call the glowing eye of mordor.
Not sure why this feature is so overlooked. I guess as more feature phone users upgrade they don't know what they are missing.

Okay then Well, at least it's clear that it _does_ have LED power indicator. Too bad that new button is stiff also. Not a deal-breaker, ofc, but I'd be pressing it quite a lot during use.

^^ this. It is tiny and only in the dark could you see it and only if the tablet has it's edge turned towards you. In reality, it is 100% worthless and I am surprised it is even there.

[Q] LED Notification Frequency

Has anyone found anyway to change the frequency the LED flashes with notifications? I've searched around and haven't found anything. I tried out a few apps but none seemed to change the power button LED.
Nope, i was fine with it until i saw my gfs gs3 light up like an xmass tree to let her know she got a text message.
Ours works but its pretty lackluster.
The only hope for a faster LED is when the ROMs start coming out that give control of it. And who knows if it'll even have the ability to be changed then. Stuck with a 25 second gap (for now).

25 seconds between flashes!? I've seen a E971 (Rogers variant) flash its front notification led and it was on for about a second off for two.
Can anyone clarify the blinking pattern on the AT&T model please? I'm thinking of getting the AT&T version due to expandable storage...

25 seconds (may)be a little drastic, but no one's really sure why there's such a time difference with the notifications.
Next time you get a text or something, check how often the light around the power button goes off. It's pretty annoying.

Well I checked for ya, and it turns out it does take about twenty five seconds for the power button to glow red. You have like a two second time frame to see it lol.

Thanks. So is it 25off, 2on, 25off, 2on, etc or is it just an initial 25s?

Its minutes between blinks it feels like.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
It's definitely just twenty five seconds haha. If your phone is locked during the time you get the notification, the power button will immediately glow red for about two to three seconds, turn off, and the light will come back on in twenty five seconds and so forth.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Very much useless compared to other phones I've had. With the long intervals between blinks and short duration of the blink, I almost never notice it. I just periodically hit the power button to see the lock screen rather than try and wait out the indicator light.
It's really only a problem if your phone is on silent and you haven't checked on it every once in awhile.
A theory to negate this minor flaw is to have a repeat notification (sound) feature for when you hear your phone but you're too busy to check it.
I'm not sure if this option is available, and if it's not, maybe it could be suggested to a dev and implemented somewhere.
Sometimes the charging indication stops blinking too at about 80%, although I thought I read somewhere the batteries only really charge to 80% to last longer, so there may be some tweaking that needs done. I like the gradual brightness it does too sort of how the HTC Fusz phones would look like they are breathing when charging.
My SG3 did light up like crazy, but was too bright and only worked with Samsung apps- K9 Email for instance had weird blinking and only blinked in the default color which for a tri-color was a waste. My Atrix HD blinked all the way home from the Activation SMS then never blinked again for the whole week I put up with it then returned it, so I think I can live with 25sec for now. It kind of reminds me of Knight Rider too and I like Red over blue/green.
Yeah my roommate actually has a SG3 and her LED light drives me insane. It's just way too bright, frequent, and distracting. Not exactly a phone you can sit on your desk and just ignore while trying to do something else.
Has anyone tried something like light flow from the play store to see if it can change the interval?
I've been following this phone because I hope to steal my wife's upgrade next month . I haven't fully decided, but I'm really leaning towards the lgog.

Edit:
It looks like a recent update of the light flow app added nexus 4 support, so that might be useful for the lgog.

Light Flow now works with it. Sometimes when I hit the power its a little buggy and doesn't turn the screen on but not to annoying. Thanks!
I got the LED to blink alot.
Rooted with esFileExplorer
Open /system/etc/system.xml
Change notification_light_pulse from 0 to 1.
Save.

Care to elborate on this a little more? How often does it blink now? Does it change the notifications at all? I don't want to go changing things without knowing how it affects other parts of the phone. Any information would be appreciated!:victory:

App for capacitive buttons ?

on old gingerbread phones without led notifications there used to be a kernel maybe Franco don't recall that had the ability to flash the capacitive buttons. That would be key on our G anyone know if its possible?

Bln support. Built into kernel. Then the app will work
the best phone ever
Yes that was it I remember the app and the kernel dependency now if someone would do this lol

Crazy enough there is an app that can do it. It's working on mine. You wouldn't expect it to work though but it does. The app if Light Flow. You have to enable the app to control the buttons light. It does work but seems to cause a full wakelock.

From my understanding that only Samsung phones can use bln. But on another note why would you want that when we have a very bright led on the power button?
Edit: while that would look clean with the front buttons for notification that would give some drain battery drain not worth it to me since we already have a led light for notification. While wouldn't be my first choice for the location, they should have done it like the sprint model.

Aside from the side location, the other issues with that notification light are 1) the fact that it only blinks ever 30 seconds or so, with no option to change the frequency, and 2) instead of an RGB LED, apparently LG only put a red one in, thus making it impossible to differentiate between different notifications.
If frequency can be fixed, I'd be happy. Otherwise, getting the capacitive buttons to each indicate a certain notification seems like a great alternative.

There would be so little battery drain you would never notice. Also, if you turn off the red led and only use the front capacitive leds the "drain" would be equaled out. I used BLN before and it is amazing. Would love to see it on the LGOG.

Well I notice it blink every 5-6 seconds for a minute or so. But in a dark or lit room I can see it just fine. Only thing I don't like that it on the side should have been on the front like the sprint model. And still don't see why they made the phone different anyway. Just glad the att model has the sd card slot

Moto Z notification light

Does Moto Z come with notification light at all?
I've heard 2 different answers, can anyone who owns one confirm this pls.
i've noticed moo g4 plus there is no mention of led light but when charging there's a hidden light, see link below. Perhaps the same coud be true for moto z.
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/05/moto-g4-plus-has-hidden-led-light/
Z owners try the following
Turn phone off and insert charger.
G4 plus has a hidden notification light, next to the fingerprint reader is only visible trying the above method.
no lights, when phone is on you need to wave your hand over the sensor next to the FP reader and the screen will light up with your notification
It's only the fourth year it's been this way.
How many threads do you need to post the same question? Is it really necessary to post in the Z force section too!?!? One is enough imo. Senior member too..

I have had a dim red light illuminate on the right side of the finger print scanner closer to the right edge then the scanner but no directly on the edge. I have the white Z, so the areas are much more evident. I was baffled as to why it was illuminated or exactly what it was and shortly after seeing it it was gone. I thought for a moment it was some sort of IR thing, but no idea. Very dim but clearly visible as a red light in a dark room. I've tried to see what I could do to make it reappear but no clue what brought it on.

Possible notification light on MOTO Z Play
I tried to flash TWRP recovery of other devices into my MOTO Z Play hoping to find a way to root. However all the recoveries of previous MOTO devices are not compatible, and after flashing a small white light located right to the speaker bar blinked. Don't know wether this light was evoked by TWRP recovery or error in fastboot, and why it didn't appear when phone was on.

I've seen the same white light after updating last night. It seems to be similar to the green light on the Moto x 2014 I have. So maybe after cracking the bootloader unlock code and rooting there will be some function. But it probably won't work as you are hoping. But as has been mentioned it's been this way for years on these devices.

I don't know why Motorola didn't just activate by default, perplexing decision to include some sort of notification light but not activate it.

No it's to the left of that. It's behind something
I have the moto Z and can confirm the white light, I have seen it when flashing a firmware and rebooting I think.
But is like mentioned, back of something.
I have the Moto Z Force. It is right near the speaker grill on the right side. Just got a security update for nougat and it rebooted and for a second there was a tiny white light there. Kinda like the droid turbo I had, but that didn't turn on till I dropped it in water lol.
