[Q] GT-I8910N Kernal and Rom help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there guys and gals. Having a bit of a problem with an S3 Mini exact model is GT-I8910N. Not my first Samsung root as I've done an S2 with dual boot kernel before. My question doesn't relate to which is the best. I am asking for viable ROMs which will reduce battery drain and overclock my cpu. I've used cyanogen on a g2 back in froyo. I've looked into virginity too and the crossover script part confuses me as I've normally just gone through odin and dealt with prepackaged kernels and roms. Which have it all combined. So I am looking for advice on roms but all viable roms not which is best. I can make that choice myself essentially. I'm wanting one with a reduced battery drain. CPU overclock. Bloatware removed and reduced down to as minimal as possible. An explanation of crossover would be greatly appreciated as well as known alternatives. Also am I limited to what types due to the N? I've read there's also an L and an International versions. Assuming that mine is an N as it's in the model number as seen in screenshot. Also is a rollback needed?

[Q] Question regarding accelerate hardware

Hello guys.
ICS is comming soon and the leet dev's are already working on porting the ICS to our current phones so i had some questions/concerns in regards to this new feature. My questions are:
1. Will the accelerated hardware drain more battery?
2. How noticable will it be?
3. What functions are most affected/least affected?
Im pretty excited about it, based on what i read on forums and some tib bits from the net seems like it will be a huge speed boosts to our phones, if someone with more knowledge to this tech would share i would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
It may actually help battery if it's managed properly... Dedicated hardware is usually more power efficient than running stuff like this on a CPU.

which custom rom.

hay, my 14 year old sister keeps complaining about this phone i bought her, screen lag, and battery life.
what is the best stable rom to put on it.
she is running 2.3 atm iirc.
cheers

Well, at first sight this seems to be a rather staightforward question with an obvious answer at hand. But if you dig deeper, than you'll find it more difficult to choose among the various possibilities. Here are some hints.
A. Roms
(1) Stock rom from Samsung (newest version is currently 2.3.6).
As far as I can tell and reading about other users experiences, it has the best battery running time. And performance wise I can't tell any disadvantage or lag either.
(2) Roms based on Ketuts kernel found in CF-Root.
(2.a) CF-Root b82 version and below
The system performance regarding battery and lag should be the same, because the kernels are stock (by Samsung) ones. But in reality the modder of the rom package may have used some scripting tweaks (init.d) or heavily themed the look. It may make the battery running time and/or the responsiveness of the system better or worse. But any modifications also bring the risk for bugs (wlan, sim-toolkit, ...).You should skip through the corresponding thread and find out.
(2.b) CF-Root b82.ex version and up
From here onwards Ketut has begun to tweak and build his own kernel based on the stock kernel configuration parameters (/proc/config.gz).
(3) Roms based on Cyanogenmod 7
This is an unofficial build of Cyanogenmod for the s5830.
It is well known, that it suffers under a battery drain issue. On the other hand you will get the most out of the device regarding lagfree performance. Recommended for heavy gamers at the cost of battery duration.
My recommendation is now that you goes from (1) to (3) and try them out to experience yourself, which package does really fullfills your/her needs. Because no one can tell you for sure, which rom is the best suited for you, because it is a matter of personal taste and preference.
Here you can find some introductionary materials into the world of modding to make the s5830 a better device accommodating to your needs.

B. Tweaks
(1) Make battery last a little bit longer.
If you're really serious about finding ways to extend the battery running time, than you should read the whole thread, because usefull informations are scattered and not only in the OP.

(2) Lagfree scripts (only applicable to rooted device with init.d enabled)
This scripts may also contain some tweaks, which will claim to also raising the battery running time of the device.

Why samsung galaxy s 2 i9100?

Basically, i got this phone(GS2 i9100M) a week ago and found way too many problems that i cannot fix. So, why exactly does so many people like about this phone compared to other variant, e.g. GS2 T989 with snapdragon processor? I mean, my brother has the T989 and i also had it before too until i sold it to get this. It seems like i've been experiencing a lot of problem from this phone that does not really occur on the T989. The default music player is faulty which causes auto reboot, and the phone constantly heats up; even when viewing photos from the gallery! What attracted me to get this phone was people's opinion about the CPU and GPU also the gorilla glass, but i dont really notice a big differences in speed between the two phones. The T989 also doesn't heat up this much or this often. Feel free to share your experience people, and would appreciate if someone can offer me some advices on how to fix the heating up issues.
First, its better to talk n read at 9100 forum section but since im a 9100 user, ill share it here
Yes, on day one i got my 9100, it gets really warm even when not charging and got a lot worse when on charge. Its mostly the media scanning process which seems unstoppable on the earlier build when the SGS2 was released
I first noticed that its solved when using XXKG3 firmware and above. And also, undervolting to around 50mv reduces the heat too. A normal 9100 is capable of undervolting up to 175-200mv but it depends on phones are some silicones are made better and its not a constant result. What samsung made is setting the voltage at all the same safe level to avoid reboots. U have the option to undervolt it to reduce heat or even underclock to 1Ghz since 1.2ghz is quite overpowered and u want to conserve the battery and make it last longer.
Try Siyah kernel and learn to tweak using voltage controller and extweaks. There r guides given in SGS2 section here on XDA and it is well compiled.
Cheers

bershote Legiflature;
Thanks for your reply. I've posted in the wrong section by mistake. Someday I'd consider rooting the phone, but at the moment I don't want to take the risk because I'm still kind of new to smartphones and don't know much about it. What's your opinions on ICS? Do you think ICS OS release will solve most of these problems?

[Q] Recommended ROMs/Kernels for Battery Life and Configurability

OK, I realize that everyone has a different idea of the best ROM and/or kernel, and I fully expect to try out a few different ones to see which is best for me. However, I am hoping that I won't be irritating anyone by asking for suggestions on where to start. I don't need a lot of extra features, but I do like to be able to configure as many settings as possible--that is the main reason I chose Android in the first place. I also want to maximize battery life. Based on my experience with SlimBean on the Nexus S, it and SlimKat will be definite contenders, but which others should I consider? And are there any specific kernels I should look at? It will be a couple of weeks before my LGOG arrives, so there should be fairly stable 4.4.2 based ROMs by then, but I don't mind using 4.3 ROMs if they will provide better performance. I have been using a Galaxy S II for the last several months, where NeatROM is the only real choice if you want good battery life, so I'm a bit out of the loop.
I have been having a similar issue with trying to maximize performance and battery life at the same time. I have found that using android 4.3 really does make a huge difference in battery life and it makes all the animations, I think, look more fluid. Now as Kernels go, I cannot recomend one in particular, but look for one with eco mode or just change your processor setting with Trickster mod. I use only 2 cores, the ondemand governor, and keep my frequencies between 1026000 and 1512000. Hopefully this helps.

i9300 more powerfull than other i9300

Hi there,
I have CM 13 installed on my i9300, and on another i9300 too, that is of my wife (exactly the same rom), but mine is slower. I don't know why, but, since CM11 that I install the rom on both i9300, and her galaxy is more efficient, less buggy and faster responsive. Even on a benchmark test, her device is more powerfull.
I don't know much what is the cause.
Can someone help me to overclock my i9300? I don't know what to do...
Thanks.

Some particular phones may have bad processors or they don`t work at full potential. It`s a mass produced product, a bunch of them may have some flaws.
In order to overclock your cpu/gpu, you have to flash a custom kernel. If you have the official Cm 13 Nightlies, you can download Boeffla kernel along with the boeffla config and over/underclock your cpu/gpu.

Many thanks!
No Sdcard on both phones ? Just asking cause it can have an impact on performance.
Are you sure that you're running the same build? Myself I know that some tend to be much slower than other ones which are as responsive as brand new phones.
Do NOT overclock phones, that doesn't even make them noticeable faster, it's all bull****. Instead underclock your CPU (I have no clue how) so you have a longer battery life and the device might not heat up as much.
Best solution is to do hard reset, that's what I did after flashing many different ROMs, my phone simply slowed down and that put it back on track.
