I can not find any sort of comprehensive guide on how one is supposed to do this. I know that there is a new temporary root to allow this, but the release page does not explain how to root the phone explicitly, just the command lines for the final step.
I know about the superuser and the various drivers and commands you need to do this (i.e. Google ADB), I have done plenty of research already, I'm not just coming from out of nowhere asking for aid.
Is there a step-by-step guide for how to root?

Hello ya'll..
im new to this forum, and im a complete noob (i already learned alot in the past couple of days, reading alot of threads)
When i have my X10 mini pro (should be next week) i wanna root it. but what is the safest and easiest way.
ive seen this topic.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747906
its about the universal root. it looks like that is the easiest way to root the phone. But if it is the easiest way, why isn't it a sticky.
This topic (Exploid-Root for x10 mini)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739874
is indeed a sticky... now im curious why... is there a reason for it? is it safer to root it via the exploid-root way of should i just use, universal root.??
Thanks everybody...
I've only tried the exploid method, but i doubt that the universal root is less safe, because if it's just a program the chances of ****ing something up is equal to zero (because humans doesn't get to interfere with it the process, which you can if you use the exploid method).
However, the exploid method is very simple and as long as you follow the instructions properly it's easy enough. You also get adb shell (a tool for editing files in the system directory) if you use the exploid method, and I don't know if you get that from the universal root.
I used the universal androot thing on my mini pro and it's super easy. I don't know anything about adb or commands but everyone can safely root his phone using this universal method.
Thanks
Im going to find out what a adb shell is and then i'll decide..
its good to know the rooting proces is easy
Actually UniversalAndroot is the same as the Exploid method, but it's automated. Some users reported, after using X10Root, that they weren't able to use all or some adb commands.
I followed the exploid root, the manual version.
Good Luck.
Thanks (dank u)
i'll go for the universal root then..
then change the android market thingy so i can see all the apps, and im in buisness
this site is great
Hello XDA-Forum users,
I ask you a question: How does Android Root works ?
I mean, for example, How does it works in Nexus One ?
This would be an understanding question to know more about how I get root from my Phone (Nexus One, for example) from scratch, from sources.
upupupupupup
Rooting basics:
http://lifehacker.com/5342237/five-great-reasons-to-root-your-android-phone
For details on how to do it on your device, Google or use the forum search. Lots of rooting information that is device dependent out there.
It basically gives your phone permission to do almost anything. It is similar to giving a user in Windows Administrator rights. It is called super user. You can do many things such as removing unwanted apps and overclocking.
This is not what I mean, I asks for an explaining in which the question is "How the root is possible? What active the root ?" Probably a kernel exploit, or stuff like that, to understand the underground passage to take it, from an hack view.
So, How works a root utility (such SuperOneClick) to set gid to 0 ?
Valid question, I am also interested in learning this.
In other words, if I were to perform the rooting manually, where can I find such info?
And some of the question is why su must be in some diredctories, and can't be run from /data/local/tmp for example?
Someone can enlighten us?

The general approach is taking advantage of bugs in the android OS
The process works something like this
User crafts some special data that contains a "payload" (the script/executable that we want to run)
User runs a system process that has root privileges and gets it to open the special data
The bug causes the system process to get confused by the data, and ends up running the embedded script
The embedded script runs with the same privileges as the system process, and thus can stuff that normal users aren't allowed to do (e.g. installs the SU app)
Commonly, things such as buffer overflows are used
So after gaining root access, which apps can run as root?
Or the user becomes root(as in desktop), and can run all types of apps?
Can root app(run as root) access everything?? Or app permission still applies?
Is it that system exploit is always used to run root apps?
can someone explain in technical details? not how to root.
are rooting programs open source??
What is the root procedure

Hi guys!
I have the same question and after searching and asking find this!
it is good!!
hope it works!

also look at the suggestedpages at the right of this page!
New to Android and HTC Thunderbolt. I read all threads in the Development Section regarding rooting to s-off, etc. so I can get rid of bloatware and utilize cool mods the experts have created. I read the tutorial on the Dev site and the entire thread. While experienced rooters may understand all the steps, I would appreciate the following. If someone from the Dev forum has the time and patience, could they expand on the instructions for rooting geared to someone who has never done this before but can follow directions perfecly if they are fully explained and do not take for granted all will fully understand what they assume everyone already knows. e.g. "pushing files using commands as stated." Is that from command prompt? Using ADB? Etc. I am coming from Blackberry Storm which I loaded/flashed with many leaked OS's and wish to gain similar proficiency with Android phones. In advance, thanks to the people in the Dev group working hard to achieve what they have. If someone could now break it down into a "Rooting for Dummies" it would be appreciated by me and many others. I know the risks but am condident if the procedure is fully explained I can follow and achieve root and enjoy the Android experience as it was meant to be by the developers. Thanks.
Firstly yes adb commands are run from the command line. But well the rooting instructions are very simply explained in context to the tools used/steps that need to be taken. Seemingly your trouble is you need background information in using commandline, adb, etc?
I mean do you have any other specific questions aside from the fact that adb is used from the command line? Oh, and you push files via an adb command. Think it was adb push <filename>? I tend to look it up when I need to use it or check the documentation.
Thanks for the quick response. I will go over the tutorial again tonight and ask the specific questions I need clarification on.
No problem. And a good idea to be sure you don't have any questions about what you are doing if you want root w/ out the 1-click mechansim; however, if you can get the handle of what your doing for the current root mechansim you'll feel more comfortable once you've rooted the phone, especially if you need to fix something or manually flash something later on.
Hello,
I am not 100% sure if this is the right forum to ask for help for my problem.
I bought an EDEN TAB (ET701), which is a tablet sold in Japan, and it comes with ICS 4.0.3.
The system installed is just unusable. So, I need to customize a lot. I was able to root it, but there is no CWM recovery for this model, as there are not many users.
By doing a lot of searches, I found out the following web site, where ii looks like I can make a custom recovery.
http://builder.clockworkmod.com/
The problem is that I am rather a beginner in Android, and I don't really understand how I should proceed, and I have some questions.
If I am not mistaken, I need to take the following files from my tablet. What is the easiest way to to this?
1) Recovery image file
2) recovery.fstab
3) graphics.c
4) postrecoveryboot.sh
Could someone provide me with a comprehensive guide? I have some some modifications in the past using ADB or Terminal Emulator. So, if there is a guide, I would like to try. Thank you.
Hey, new user here. Sorry if this is miscategorised.
I have a very simple issue. I have a GT-I9305, recently rooted with some weird Android Terminal commands and a .zip file I found online. No issue with rooting. I did a root check and used root to uninstall Knox.
Issue is that beforehand I tried to root with KingRoot and I didn't know it would automatically download its own SU (probably should have been more cautious). I want to use Super SU instead but I can't because after some research, there'll be so conflict between these two. So further research suggests I need to do some deep replacement between these two.
I've tried several methods already.
An app called SuperSu Me required higher Android version, so that was a strike for me. The one with the commands with the mrw file did not work (just threw up a whole list of failures and errors), and another appears to be working with Kit Kat only (I'm on 4.3). Another limitation I have is that my computer is garbage and probably won't run Odin or whatever flashing thing, so that rules out another horde of solutions.
Further, Super SU did not update binary, which most websites suggested it will do. It tries to do it, then regurgitates an error message after five minutes.
So I was just wondering if there is some obscure way beyond the second Google search page which might help me out here, to replace King SU with SuperSU. After all, the root method I used in the first place wasn't exactly conventional.
Just wanted to ask around here before I simply unroot and forget about the whole business. Been lurking around here unregistered and you guys have been very helpful, so now I guess I'm starting a topic of my own.
