[Q] Secure Launcher Locked down whole Android OS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have received a tablet for work which has Secure Launcher Installed and only 4-5 apps installed. Everything else is blocked. Coincidently the app google now still works but when i search for other apps like chrome it finds it and when i try to open it Just insta-kills the app.
I once installed Nova Launcher which completely bypassed the Secure launcher and opened the whole tablet basically having 2 launchers installed. But after 15 mins of use secure launcher kicked in again and killed the app and now even after installing nova launcher again it just auto-kills it on start saying no privalages.
Now i just want to know its just a launcher that is blocking the whole tablet[Galaxy Tab 4]. Is there a work around for this?

anyone have any thoughts on this?

HELP splashtop

Hey gus so i downloaded splash top and then i deleted it, but now if i go to settings>apps>all and i scroll down i find splash top remote....
why is that there and how can i remove it entirely??
thanks
Splashtop Remote Desktop comes preinstalled on your Prime, you can install and uninstall the market version of the app but you cannot remove the preinstalled version without rooting your tablet. The preinstalled version is hidden in the Asus My Cloud app. If you don't want to root you can disable the app from the App setting menu which is almost as good as uninstalling.
really it comes preinstalled?? i didn't know that i was freaked out that it was malware or something

[Q]Remove google now launcher

Hey everybody,
I want to get rid of a bit of Google's stuff. I installed CyanogenMod on my phone (Sony Xperia Go, but I guess that's not too important) and afterwards GAPS. This changed the launcher to the google now launcher. I decided to just delete it, which got me in trouble, the wasn't able to boot anymore. This makes sense, due to the fact, that it was my launcher, I didn't think much about what could happen, when I deleted it.
So here is my question. I started fresh, and installed GAPS once again. This time I also installed ADW.Launcher and set it up as my default launcher (See attachment). Is it now save for me, to remove Google Now Launcher, or does it do something else, which is critical for running my OS?

You'll be fine to remove. I actually don't know why it wouldn't boot when you removed it the first time. Your phone can certainly run without a launcher (just makes it really difficult to get around lol).

Since you already selected ADW as default probably it will boot just as usual, so yeah I think it´s safe. At least I have done the same in the past xD

No problem. If you have ADW set as default, you can safely uninstall Google Now Launcher. After reboot phone will successfully boot to ADW Launcher's Home.
Press Thanks if helped.
It worked
Thanks a lot, it worked without problems For any other person, who wants to do that, it is also save to remove the google search, if an other launcher is installed (I think back then, I removed the google search app, which had the launcher included).

Secure Launcher Locked down whole Android OS

Posted in the general section before. If any mods can take down that post.

[Q] Minor Problem with Google Now Launcher

This is a far superior device with Google Now launcher installed. Perhaps that is because I have a Nexus 5 and I like the commonality. But I digress.
The only problem is that every time I press HOME Fire O/S asks me "Just Once or Always?" It's a PITA. Does anyone know how to get "Always" to stick?
-----------------
Just in passing, using the GN Launcher provides multiple screens, an apps drawer and a app bar. It gets rid of that ridiculous carousel. However, all of the Kindle goodness is retained including Instant Video (if you are a Prime member). Root is not required so you can retain 4.52. "OK Google" works just like my Nexus. Search, alarms, weather and so on. Wallpapers doesn't work. I don't know about widgets.
I have the same issue for all the launchers I've tried, it's definitely a pita. Unfortunately they probably did that on purpose to discourage other launchers from being installed and used.
There is a youtube video how to make Google now or any launcher your default launcher. You have to use adb to send a command to disable kindles launcher. I did it and it works. I tried to add the link here for your guys but I dont have enough posts yet. Here is the title of the youtube video. "How to set a launcher as default on the Amazon Fire HD6 and HD7 " This also works on the hdx.

Launcher for chrome OS

Hi,
newbie here, just got a chromebook few days ago, and I'm impressed with the new world I'm discovering...
Very happy with the Play Store integration, basically every app I tried from the Play Store worked flawlessly.
Now, i know the we don't have the option for real desktop functionality with app links and/or widgets, but I discovered that I can download android launcher(s) form Play Store, and although the launcher will run like a separate app, will still do the trick (at least for me), to have many app links to actual desktop (not only the bar), and eventually widgets... I'm saying "eventually" because in the few launchers that I've tried, the widgets availability seems limited (compared to the installed apps or how would be on android).
The question is: can launcher be developed specifically for chrome OS with full functionality? Assuming that it will run as a separate app (maybe open at start, by default)?
Many thanks in advance!

I'm with you there florox. The default launcher is rubbish. When you press all apps, only getting the last 5 listed is a joke. Widgets would also be a real boost to Chrome OS.
On the other hand, having a touch screen and Android apps working is still years ahead of what Micro$oft and Apple have achieved. It's an exciting time to own a CB.
Agree, Chrome OS is evolving at a rapid pace! Maybe Nova launcher someday...
