[Q] Recover Contacts - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

I recently rooted my phone. Before doing so I attempted to export my contacts, but in the processing of reloading the phone I have lost or wiped out the contacts list I exported. I also took a adb backup before wiping the phone. Is there any chance I can extract the contacts from the backup and restore them to the new configuration?
adb backup was performed when the phone was on 2.19.605.2... Phone is now running KitKat 4.4.4

Do backup Kk Rom, restore 2.19.605.2, save your contacts and restore Kk Rom back Btw you don't have Google account? Because it's good place to save your contacts, especially when you often change Roms

I keep all my contacts in Goolge. That way they are never lost. It also allows my wife and I to share contacts.

Contacts in Google
I have had Android devices for years and keep getting things screwed up on the contact side. I am not even sure how it happens. Some contacts end up on the phone and some end up in Google. When I reloaded the phone and tablet a while back all of my contacts got duplicated in gmail with old and new data all mixed together. Makes a huge mess. I need to spend a little time figuring out what I am doing wrong and clean up all of the messes. I try to stick with GMAIL for contacts, but it seems like with all of the applications asking to sync contacts, sometimes you click yes before you really realize the impact of the decision you are making.
I was not able to get the old contacts back from the backup. For some reason they didn't restore. Decided I am just OK with that... Maybe I will be a little more careful next time.
I still wonder if it would have been possible to find the backed up contacts database so I could import it in to the android emulator and export the contacts... Maybe a weekend project when it gets cold out.

[Q] Restoring sms/mms, call logs & contacts but no system app!!!

I just flashed Bionix V over Nero v5. Per instruction from teamwhiskey/sombionix, I only restored third party applications and not system apps. I just realized some of my contacts are missing along with all of the mms, sms and call logs. How can I restore just the missing contacts. Plus How can I restore my mms/sms and call logs. Before flashing, I had backed up 'all user apps + all system data' so I know everything is backed up in titanium backup. What files am I looking for to restore these?
Thanks.
You have to restore system apps to get the mms / sms back. As for the contacts, do you not have them setup on your gmail account or are they on your sim? Putting them in gmail would be the best thing from now on.

You should be able to restore all of your contacts by clicking to restore "[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage" in Titanium Backup. It's one of the green items on your list. After they've been restored, reboot your phone.
That said, I tried doing the same thing and a bunch of my phone-saved numbers were still not restored. It's possible that I re-backed up a bunch of apps and data (including contacts info) on TB before the system had a chance to fully restore everything, therefore deleting a bunch of my contacts when I reflashed Bionix V to fix another mistake I made (what can I say, it was my first time rooting my phone and flashing a ROM), so it was all probably my own fault. Fortunately, I had almost all of my contact information on my old G1 still, so I just saved all of that to Gmail and it automatically synced w/ the Contacts on my Vibrant.
Otherwise, I would have had to use Odin or Heimdall to bring my phone back to stock so that I could restore the nandroid backup from when my phone still had the info. Or, I could have tried to simply flash a JI6 kernel, but with that came the risk of a Android 2.1 kernel severely clashing with a 2.2 system. In your case, it seems like you should be able to reflash Nero v5, restore a nandroid backup from that system, and save all of your contacts the proper way.
After learning the hard way, I will concur with others who suggest saving all of your contacts to Gmail in the future. Or, you can back up your contacts in your phone by choosing to "export" them to your external sd card in the Contacts menu.
I believe that you can retrieve contact info saved to your SIM card by choosing to "import" them in the Contacts menu, as well.
Best of luck!

Restoring data/contacts after flash

Hey everyone,
I just updated to the new Bamf 3.0 RC4. I backed up all my apps/user data in Titanium backup beforehand. Some questions about restoring data/contacts:
1) I've always had the "sync contacts" with google option available. However, after syncing I've found that a lot of my friends' contact information isn't there. Furthermore, when I get texts people's contact info doesn't come up
that led me to
2) restore system data with Titanium backup. After doing so, I see most of my friends numbers but not all. The texts I received after flashing were wiped out and replaced by messages I had prior to flashing.
3) After restoring all my apps, I can't seem to change my background picture. It's set to one I took myself. I go into the theme settings but can't get it to change.
Thanks so much for all the help.

1. What information is missing?
2. Yeah, that's what happens when you restore a backup, not exactly sure what you were expecting there.
3. When you try to set a different wallpaper, does your phone give you an error, or does everything work fine & it just doesn't change the wallpaper?
In the stock contacts application, you can export your contacts to your sd card beforehand. Then after you flash, just import them. I export the ones from my phone and it works every time.
This is the method that works for me before and after each flash of a new ROM. (I am assuming a full wipe for step 5 and 6 to get my apps back)
1. Backup using Titanium backup (batch/Run - Backup all user apps+system data)
2. Backup call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore (found in market)
3. Backup SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore (found in market)
4. Flash ROM
5. Restore using Titanium backup (batch/RUN - Restore missing apps with data) (I am having trouble with Amazon apps and getting back data so YMMV)
6. Restore using Titanium backup (Backup/Restore - Filter (apps) - restore all apps with data)
7. Restore call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore
8. Restore SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore
Good Luck!

1. Basically all the contact info.
2. Ok, makes sense that I lost the new texts. But what about contact info? Some friends were missing, but that was fixed when I synced with facebook so I guess it's ok. Just want to make sure I don't lose contacts when I flash again. I'll try some of everyone's suggestions though.
3. Well, oddly enough, now it sort of works. However, when I go into the HTC wallpapers I can't actually see them on the screen- I have to click the "preview" button to see them. When I click preview, sometimes a new background comes up in which case I can hit apply and it works no problem. Other times I click preview and there is a black background. I hit apply and get a message "Warning. Phone storage is full."
edit: even now, I go into my gmail contacts on my computer and can't find some of my friends' information. I am syncing contacts too.

[Q] quick questions before flashing!

Guys, I unlocked and rooted, and am now going to flash SoaB. But there are a few questions before I take the plunge.
I did backups using Rom Manager and Titanium backup. Did I miss anything?
Do I have to be connected to a lap or desk top? Can I just download to my SD card and use Rom Manager to flash? (I am at work, so cant connect to the work desktop)
I have the latest OTA update that gave me 2.3.4, and noone has answered this question with a yes or no - Do I need to flash a new radio? If yes, what is recommended for the SoaB ROM? And how do I do that?
Looking forward to you guys helping me out! Its been a great experience having you guys here to help when needed!
You look all set to me. Your radio is good, and you have good backups. Flash away!
Flashing now, wish me luck.
One last question. All the data being backed up. I am assuming it includes contacts and calendar items? I use Outlook, don't cloud anything yet. If the data backed up is contacts and calendar, can I put that data back in the new ROM?
That depends. Your contacts should be backed up through your Google account. As far as outlook, you would have to backup the app to keep the data.
You should use Google to back up your Calendar and contacts. Try to convert over one of these days.

Anything backed up with TI Backup you can restore within the ROM. If you didnt backup your contacts with TI or on your google account, they are backed up in the NAND with ROMManager, but you'd have to restore your back, thus undoing the ROM installation, to access them again.

How to backup and restore joined contacts?

Alright I tried searching for this but couldn't come upon any proper solution. I'd like to know if this is actually possible? Right now I have contacts coming from 3 different sources, WhatsApp, my Google account, and Facebook. I've been trying to merge all 3 so I don't come up with multiple entries for the same person. Unfortunately all the contacts come unjoined whenever I do a full wipe and upgrade to a new version of the same ROM. I am currently running on Foxhound. I've tried backing up contacts and restoring via Titanium backup but I still find myself losing the contacts I joined previously. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

[Q] Restore contacts on Jelly Bean without factory reset... Please help. :'C

Preface (skip if you want):
So a week ago, my data and wifi both stopped working alltogether. If I did a factory reset, it worked, but when I restored my synced apps, it stopped working again. I reset without syncing, so I backed up everything using Titanium, and did an upgrade to Jelly Bean AOKP.
Now, my contacts won't restore.
When I try, nothing shows up in my contacts book, even though when I view my db files in .txt format, I can see jumbled info.
Titanium can't back up my contacts probably because I was using "Contacts" in Ginger Bread, and Jelly Bean has "People". I don't know, I'm a noob. I'm just guessing.
I've JUST finished restoring via Titanium and redownloading all my apps. And now I read I have to go back to stock firmware and back it up again and go back to AOKP?!
PLEASE help me figure out another way!
I only had computer access yesterday while visiting family (my own is broken).
Idea 1 (attempt in progress):
Remove "People" app on JB, restore original contact book, back up there, remove old GB book, reinstall People.
Problem is, I don't know where to find "People" again. Nor do I know how to uninstall it.
So, trying to figure that out.
Idea 2
Dissect my compressed backed up files and retype everything out, or replace my People files with them.
- com.android.contacts-20121205-121353.tar
- com.android.contacts-63595028103eedc350c975b39a6e23f4.odex
- com.android.contacts-e358929a51f0e35200269216062cfd41.apk
- com.android.mms-1eb9bc46bf5a27dcf82f70a4c46e23ac.apk
I managed to scavenge (out of other things):
- contacts2.db
- contacts2.db-journal
- profile.db
- profile.db-journal
...NO IDEA how.
Sync yout contacts with your google account before flashing JB. After flashing JB set your Google account and your contacts will be restored to your device.
If upgrading between stock roms you can also backup and restore contacts using Samsung Kies.
