Hi guys,
I just bought a Motorola Atrix 4G from Ebay. However I was wondering, what ROM should I use, since I live in the Netherlands?
I already noticed a few roms here, however, since I live in the Netherlands, I want to know which one I should use for the best performance within my country.
Can someone please advice me?
Thank you very much.

Sorry I forgot to mention it's the cell phone from AT&T carrier. I already know where to unluck it, thanks to this forum!
I am really sorry if this is a dumb question, but I couldn't find anything on it on the forums for Dutch people. :S
You're welcome.

I apologize for Shaydar. That is an incredibly rude comment to make for absolutely no reason.
Make sure the ROMs are compatible with your network. I know that Canadian users were warned to avoid using certain ROMs at first.
However, I no longer own an Atrix, so you might need to some more research on the subject.

No problem, luckily there are some more decent folk around here. Oh well, I guess on every forum their are a few a..........
I never heard of a provider blocking a ROMs overhere in the Netherlands. But then again we are allowed a lot of stuff overhere, legalised soft drugs, red light district and so on. So I doubt it will going to block a custom ROM, but of course you never know.
So the ROMs, depending they aren't blocked, do work without problems with other countries, right? As a matter of fact, it doesn't matter what or who's ROM it is, the ROM itself doesn't provide the connection (phone/data/gps). Right?
Sorry if I misunderstood. Oh well; even if someone said it wouldn't work, it doesn't matter that much anymore, since the phone will arrive here within 2 days.
By the way, you returned the Atrix 4G? Didn't you like the phone or was there another reason?
I believe Canadian Atrix users have to use certain ROMs due to hardware compatibility. I'm no expert in Canadian Atrii but they've been waiting until very recently for an SPL that's compatible with their phones so I assume it's either compatibility between the ROM and the phone hardware (bootloader maybe?) or between the ROM and the network.
Sorry if I sounded rude.
All roms are just original firmware with skin and some mods.
Guess the guy sold his cell cause the bootloader was locked and some things like the real 4G, 1080p recording, and gingerbread are not yet available for the phone.
I am from france and all the roms avaible on this forum worked fine.
Got a preference for GreyBlur.
Enjoy your Atrix when you got it.
Mine cost me 425€ all costs in.

You purchased an AT&T phone so ant of the ROMs (greyblur, gingerblur, Gladiatrix) will work for you.

Okay thanks. After doing some researching I will be going to use the GladiAtrix2v4.2.3 (not themed) version.
Let's hope I manage to get it working properly.
On a sidenote; my phone didn't arrive yet.
One thing: don't be surprised when you don't see the earphones in the package.
At&T just don't provide them.... But there's a HDMI wire.... Weird choice...
And plug your phone to the wall-charger if it doesen't seem to boot.

Ah okay... I don't care much about earphones, though other people might. But thanks for the information.
Also thanks for the extra pointer regarding the wall-charger.
Darn... I also wanted to order the Motorola vehicle dock including rapid charger, but it seems they don't have that overhere yet or in my neighbouring countries. :S
Cleaned the thread, back on topic.
Simple question; is there a way to disable those annoying messages about updates?
I rooted and installed gladiatrix and it has been working perfectly since then. However I am not getting messages about installing an update (4.1.83.en.US).
I select "Install later" every time, however after 3 hours it's back and it's getting annoying. Or is the update safe to use on a rooted gladiatrix phone? If not, how can I disable these messages completely?
Does any one notice that?
I wish some one could create a MOD to repair this issue (Old MIUI versions have a working Call-Rec)
i think the people at miui need to sort it

Comments like 'the people at Miui should sort it' are a complete waste of time on here. Why ? Because this isn't Miui forums. There's a hint in there for the clever kids in the class, probably not the people who have posted to this thread so far

MistahBungle,
I am not quite sure if is a cheap attempt to reinvent the forum rules or you pretended to be the "Wiseacre member of the month"
Sadly, your comment is undoubtedly useless with no related content to my topic.
I don't recall that in order to ask questions regard Lite'ning Rom, Andyx Rom or Criskelom Rom you need to refer it to their own forums (If existed), oh wait - That's why we have XDA forums.
In fact, it was a waste of time to comment on your awkward replay.
My point, obviously lost on you, was that you'd be far more likely to get some semblance of a response relating to your question if you posted this on Miui's forums. Or at the very least you might get a workaround or even an alternative to the native call recording function which obviously doesn't work (for fairly good reason, I'm sure). There's a reason why you've had nothing like this on here in almost two days.
Clear enough for you champ ? Good. Do have a nice day.

As a workaround I have loaded Skvalex Callrecorder and it woks very well on my Xiaomi M1.
I can't use neither the internal mic or a headset with mic in my B&N Tablet.
Can anyone help me??
Thanks,

What are you trying to use it for? Its use is very limited and pretty well documented throughout the forum. The only app I find it works well for is google voice searches and dolphin HD. If you are looking for it to work for a phone app then you will be disappointed. Maybe some dev work later on, but I can't say for sure what the plans are.

I've tried to use it for those two apps and doesn't work. I also tried to use it with Skype.
It says that there is an internal error.
the devs ( builders ) have been stuck for a while with some ( critical ) piece called 'ducati' that's giving them a major row... but i am with you about the microphone. i wish and hope the devs give the mic a first class treatment in the internal plumbing and rig in the voip for skype too. so . . . we just have to wait for the 'old car' to get out of the way !

Big Mystery, need help and advice from the devs . . .
.
why do some say their microphone works ( okay or so-so ) , while others have no microphone at all. this needs troubleshooting -or- just wait until the devs fix / conquer the 'dukati port 10' bug ? ? ?
.
when i try to use google voice search : my nt tosses up immediate error screens / windows when the mike is called into action. says... 'audio problem, alert sign, speak again, cancel'... i un-install voice search and still keep the error.
.
dmesg ?
My mic works for some apps on CM7, but not in any voip apps which is what i want it to work with most. I have even used my headphones with inline mic to no success.

I had not seen anything in a while about the problem with using the mic and speaker together and was wondering if there has been any kind of resolution either with cm7 or cm9. If there have been any updates addressing this issue, please let me know.
Thanks,

People asking for updates and ETAs.
And adding in a statement of "I am not trying to flame you, but..." is pretty much as passive aggressive as it gets.

OK, I was trying to flame you. Does that make you feel better. Like I said though, it is getting old you being an ass to others. Pm the moderator and let him/her decide if someone is breaking the rules. It is not your job and the only one criticizing others is you. I was just trying to be polite in my request, I should have realized that it would not be taken that way.

Also, if you read this persons post carefully, there is no request for a eta or update regarding when something was going to be completed. It was a question regarding if there has been any progress made that maybe they had missed or couldn't find. This forum is difficult to perform a search for info and find what you are looking for, especially when you are new. With time it becomes easier when you learn to use more defined key words. I guess that is what made me angry when your response was rude and uncalled for in this particular sitiation.

You sound kinda mad right now.
You're literally doing the exact opposite of what you want done. You're ****ting up a thread and not just reporting to a mod. And you weren't trying to be polite, you were being passive aggressive, which is not polite at all. Its an attempt to sound polite while actually being condescending and rude. Its deceitful to the untrained eye.

All I did was to inform him that he should head over to development and read the threads there as they have information on it. Because that's how you get updates and learn. You read.
And you got mad and white knighted him.

There was literally no insulting. I told someone to go read development threads for updates. An insult would have been "youre an idiot for posting this here, just read threads." You just don't like my tone.
If you're going to complain about something, at least be honest with what you're complaining about.

Use Google translate. You have to join the site. You have to wait 24 hours. Then you have to click on the link in the first post, it will send you to an empty post for you to make, you make that post (anything you put there is fine), and then you can go back to the first post and download the updated rom. There are two versions of the rom, one for flashing from the card and one for flashing with the cable.
Sorry, I have nowhere to upload it for you, so I can't send you my copies.
I am waiting for my phone to arrive. I got the Etotalk rom, so my hope is that they are using the updated rom version and it will already be fixed.

My guess is that he really is talking about the G2S. This is a known problem, and Jiayu immediately issued the updated rom to correct this problem. In addition, the web page says that after installation of the new rom, the user must not touch the screen during the first boot before the unlock slider appears. Here are their words, as translated by Google:
Note: After the upgrade is complete, the first boot, the phone screen did not appear before sliding unlock switch, the phone can not power off (do not pull the battery), the hands can not touch the screen, otherwise it will affect the touch screen problem correction! ! !

Yeah, I don't like having to look all over the place. I was posting at least some in the Jiayu G2 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736279
Maybe that is the best place to take our conversations? The G2S is very different from the G2, so I don't know if that is right either.
I'm very interested in getting a ClockworkMod Recovery image for this phone. But I don't have the phone yet, so there is little I can do yet.

Yes, I posted in the same thread as well. I feel a little bit lost between the g2 and the g3 related stuff.
Have you ordered a G2S already?
I'am very close to it. The only thing I'am still missing is a decent review of the first batch devices which are sold at the moment and reliable information about the fixing of the jump screen problem. I'am not very keen on getting a G2S and have to realize that the jump screen is based on a hardware problem. I could not read anywhere that the jump screen problem is really sorted out with the last software update. It is only mentioned that it has been improved as far as I understood the posts in the chinese forums.
To build a cwm recovery for the G2S should not be a problem, I reckon.

No, I don't think I have any more information than you. I have been looking at the Jiayu forums for information as well. It seems that the "official" Jiayu statement is that the jump screen problem is fixed by the software update: http://bbs.ejiayu.com/thread-395114-1-1.html
It's a bit more comforting to hear that they acknowledge the problem and have (are?) working on it. All of the other problems mentioned in that post are not causing me to worry.
Unfortunately my previous phone broke, so I am forced to wait no longer. So I ordered the phone already. Although it is DHL shipping, I think it might take some time to arrive. I ordered it from Etotalk and had them install their mod rom. I had already asked if it was based on the newest rom and they replied that it was. But I would suggest waiting for a while if you possibly can. There is always some risk when you buy a phone from a lower tier manufacturer and they are using really new technology.
While I wait for my phone, I need to learn how to use the tools for creating a CWM Recovery. I have already created a modified rom from the official download, but I have no phone to install it on. Unfortunately, I don't find a recovery.img file in the rom I downloaded. I am assuming I will need to pull it from the rom on the phone when I get it, but maybe I just don't know where to look for it. Any help anyone has would be appreciated.

There is a great tutorial how to create a recovery mod for the G2S here. As soon as I get a G2S I will build a recovery following that tutorial.
Like you I have read through all the well known forums and not that well known forums to gather all information I could get regarding the mediatek chipset 6577 phones. Now the time has come to make use of it. Difficult to wait any longer.
Btw, I read that DHL express delivers bloody fast, only 4 days for shipping from China to Germany was the best. I hold thumbs that you'll get it as fast as that lucky guy.
Could you please backup the Etotalk rom before you customize it? Most likely I'am going to order mine at mixe and I would like to test the Etotalk rom.

I will definitely backup the Etotalk rom before going any further. But I suspect it is going to have very little changed from the stock rom because I only need English and Traditional Chinese. So it might not be localized in a way that can work well for you (depending on what you need).
I also suspect that it is very easy for them to modify the rom. Already they have Jiayu's official update that is pre-rooted or at least has Superuser in the rom (so rooting will be easy). Then they just delete a few useless apps and the rom is done, as long as it is just in English and Chinese. But any user can delete those apps immediately after rooting, so that is not significant either.
Thanks for the link. I will definitely look at that when I have some time later today or tomorrow.
I will also need to work on installing the tools for backing up and flashing roms. On my Huawei U8220, I made many rom mods and distributed them over at MoDaCo. But I think there will at least be some new things to learn when working with this MediaTek phone.
Maybe it will be time to start an "unofficial" Jiayu G2S thread some time soon. I'd prefer having a good title for the thread (like the G2 thread), and someone who will update the first post when important new information (or roms, etc.) happens. This thread is to specific in the title.
I will also have the Jiayu G2S, it is a very nice phone

Excellent. When and where did you buy?

Here is a first, very detailed review of the G2S. Very well done. Unfortunately again in chinese. So use Google(-translator).

John

Wow, that was a thorough review! Thanks for the link.
Nice to hear that there was no problem with the jump screen. Still, I will be careful to do two things on the initial boot:
1. Not install the SD card.
2. Not touch the screen until it is done booting.
I had to laugh though: the "Antutu" testing software got translated to "An Bunny". And I know enough Chinese to know why.
My phone will probably ship today. I don't understand why they were having trouble with my address in Chinese characters. :silly:

Regarding the jump screen issue there are two (new) threads in that forum.
As far as I understand it is said that the problem still exists and it (likely) could be a hardware problem.
Hope that is not the case.
Regards,
John
PS: Regarding the Chinese-English translation: What is meant by "brush"? Is it "update"?
PPS: Bunny is indeed funny.

I believe "brush" = "flash". I should look at the Chinese character to make sure.
I just got my DHL tracking number! My phone is on it's way. Maybe it will arrive by this Saturday? :fingers-crossed:
This will be a launching pad for tips and recommendations for members negotiating long threads and reading pertinent information. I read many posts with members stating that the thread is just too long to read. Then using that as an excuse for not reading at all. Please add your ideas and methods for reading.
The first thing I do when looking at a new thread is read the OP. I always check dates and also the date of the latest iteration of the ROM, kernel, etc. after reading what the author wrote about their thread I'll jump to the end of the thread and read backwards to the date of the latest release. This gets me up to date with the latest build and any issues.
Then I'll decide if I want to flash this on my very expensive device.

Please add on your tips!
Thanks!

Hi...
The way you use to read a thread pretty much summarize the way I do it myself. I go a step further by searching within the said thread with some key words such as:
Problem, issue, brick, bricked, bootloop, etc...
I may sound paranoid, but I often browse the forum late at night and I could miss an important post due to being tired.
Cheers...
Great idea Ray. Teach by teaching, not by beating a person over the head lol
I go to the OP also and if I am interested in flashing, go back a month or two and read posts to see if things are stable or not. I also follow a bunch of Roms that I don't intent to flash or, have flashed before - just to see what kind of problems have arisen and how they were dealt with. It's a great way to pass a ride on the train or other idle time. I do think that there are many from around the world here and language might be a factor effecting their ability to read and/or search. Either way, I love this XDA, a valued tool! Too bad I came along so late in the game.

You're right!
Performing a search can be an art form. Using the just right keyword to be successful takes some practice. It is so important to try many paths and exhaust all possibilities before posting your question in the threads. And then phrasing your question with all your information is important as well.

Well, since my first modded android phone in 2008, i have never felt the need of asking anything. Most likely because all issues I encountered were already covered. Either by developers or people answering issues reported by previous users having the same problems. And maybe because I like to get things done by myself. (Which I achieve 1% of the time ).
I check XDA almost every day since. I must say that the "reading thing" may sound challenging for some people. You'll ask me why?
What follows is about novice users for the most part who don't know about/how to use the search function. Try reading a thread where 100 users come each and every day writing the same thing about the same problem over and over. And over again...
Trying to find the relevant posts in-between all this mess is sometimes quite discouraging.
I'm lucky to have affinity with English and of course it's a lot easier to read and find infos when I need them. Google translate became really nice with time. Yet i find myself using it, since English is not my native language and I learned it the hard way. Sometimes it's sad to see people not using such a powerful tool.
People, please use the search function! Take some time to read. If you don't get it, use an online translator. :good:
PS: Hopefully I didn't derail too much from the OP with this post... I'll delete it if needed.

From the beginning, searching for the answer - did someone else have the same situation and fix it(?) - THIS always seemed easier and more gratifying than waiting for someone to answer me on a thread
Actually, I was flashing macks ROM, then CM on my note 2 and I didn't even KNOW XDA existed. I was so grateful when I found it. Especially when I got this phone. With Google ai, now it seems so much easier to do a quick search on the web

Yeah I know how you feel! At least for me having no real technical knowledge, I'm always glad to find the solutions by myself. Since it's around and just needs a search it's even faster than waiting for an answer. Also, since I only need to search when my phone is broken, I simply can't wait for someone to answer. Imagine no one replied during two days...

This is the first place I found when I started to flash my HTC vision back in 2008. I started reading guides and development and was like: WTF these guys are cracking bootloader, carrier unlocking, etc... And all can be found so easily... :good:
