Sprint LG G3
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I Root my LG G3?You should revert to ZV4 using Flashtool - see below.
OR
You can root ZVA using THIS Thanks to @l33tlinuxh4x0r - But be aware that most ROM's/Kernels are made for the ZV4 bootloader!!! You will have all ZVA partitions, so you may have issues.
On ZV4:
1. Your phone must have NEVER been Rooted before. Even if you've uninstalled SuperSu and removed all the files IT WILL NOT WORK!! It MUST be installed on a clean phone. ie Never Rooted, LGFlashtool - see below about this.
2. Root for us is in this thread. HERE
Version 1.2.0 is the most current - Hit "Grind" it'll more than likely say not supported, then hit "OK" and it will "Bruteforce" root to your phone, then reboot when told and it'll reboot again on its own.
Let it bootup, then install SuperSu, reboot and then uninstall Stump Root.
Version 1.0.0 was made specifically for the Sprint G3.
Q2: How do I unlock the bootloader? You must Root first with Stump, then we use BUMP
HERE is another option to install BUMP.
or
for ZV8/A, This should work Thanks to @bender_007
Q3: How do I Restore/Fix and Get my MSL on my LG G3?With LGFlashtool. For a walkthru on how to use it go. HERE
This page will also get your MSL. Read Post #4
Q4: How do I fix/backup other things on my LG G3?

Q5: Dialer Codes to fix thingsIn order least invasive to most.
##UPDATE#
##SCRTN#
or
##RTN# - this one requires your MSL. Get it from Sprint or HERE
Q6: What about modifying files on the LG G3? ie build.propMake a backup in TWRP first
Our build prop is too large for most text editors. 920 text editor, works so you can get it from the Playstore. Make sure after modifying anything to set permissions. For the build.prop it's rw-r-r.
Q7: How do I Backup/Restore EFS on the LG G3?VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU BACK THIS UP!!! HERE YUP...This is here twice for a reason.
Q8: The LG G3 has CDMA and GSM radios. How do I...?For now, I'll leave the search for you.

Does the G3 have the same security check the OG did. As in removing stock apps=brick?

Nope. We're good to go on this one. Just be careful what apps you remove. Don't cut too deep.
What a lot of people are doing is freezing/disabling apps before they remove them.

Added questions Q5 - apps, Q6 - modifying build.prop and system files

Updated rooting instructions. Just made it more thorough.

Here's an idea for q8.
How do I get my QHD preloaded videos back?
The answer is... Restore your G3 with flashtool!
I accidentally deleted my QHD vids awhile back when I did a factory reset from stock recovery. I couldn't use someone else's vids because they have some kind of protection and can only be viewed on the device they came on.
I restored with flashtool the other day and when I was going through my gallery this morning I noticed that they are back.
I searched and asked everywhere trying to get them back with no luck.
---------- Post added at 06:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:29 AM ----------
I'd like to make another suggestion, if you don't mind.
These are common questions that someone would search Google for. It would be great if this thread popped up when someone searched Google for the answer.
My suggestion is to make each question specific to the G3 or LG G3.
Example.. Q3: How do I restore my LG G3 back to factory stock condition?
Just think about what you'd type into the Google search bar.
Excellent faq, please don't think I'm trying to be critical.

It's all good. I was the one asking for suggestions, so I don't think that at all.
The way XDA wants these FAQ's is to try and find the most common questions so as to limit the amount of new threads. I tend to take it a little further by providing links and other info that I think is helpful.
To answer your suggestions:
1. So far, I think you're the only one who wanted the QHD vids back. So I'm not being rude, but for now I'll leave it off. You, me and others that actually read these threads know how to fix this. (and this IS on the first page now). If it becomes a common issue, I will gladly add it.
2. I'm not positive about this but I think the tags at the bottom serve that purpose. I added a couple and I think anybody can do the same. I'll edit the OP just to make sure.
Thanks for the suggestions, and please don't think I was being critical. I was just explaining my position.

Added link for question #5 APPS removal list. Thanks to stas333

Q#7 Added EFS Backup info. Very Important that you do this or you could be in for a lot of work and luck.
Q#3 Added info on getting MSL

Wow. Super surprised at how dead this forum is. Just picked one up today cuz specs were amazing. Hoping I didn't make a bad choice. Just checking XDA now, but looks like no custom recovery and ROMs. I pray I'm mussing something something. Device seems fantastic.

All the G3s ( except T-Mobile ) just got unlocked like a week ago. Plus we're all waiting for the Devs to release their Bump tool so AOSP Roms and custom Kernels can be flashed.
Just be patient, it's all in the works!

Wow. I'm new to bump AMD some other terminology. Always been an HTC user. It seems there like 4 different ways to get root (according yo YouTube tuts). I'm more interested in boot loader unlock to get custom recovery. Looks like I have a lot if reading to do lol.

If you're on Sprint, Stump is our root method. And to unlock the boot loader, we all use Bump.
Stump and Bump are the names of the apps/methods.
Almost sounds like a new song, which we're all singing now.

OP updated

Just wanna say thanks for the one stop shop. Makes it easy to find stuff when I need it.

Well I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I would ask here. I hope that's ok. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone uses a cpu governor? I'm on stock and rooted through stump and bumped. If so which is a good one to use and what settings are best? Thanks

Op updated with ZV6 info - There is no Root for it yet.

Am I retarded orrrrr?

So, I have been messing with Android for approximately 4 months on and off. I had a Nook Color, two actually, that I installed HC on and they both worked great.
I recently had my iPhone4 stolen from my car and I needed something fast, so I picked up an Optimus V from Virgin.
I was able to Root it using the FastBoot method. Perfect. How the F bomb do I install custom Kernels and or Roms on this thing? Before I just formatted an SD card with CWR and flashed the kernels that way. Can I still do that on here or is a different method? All I see is ADB crap.
If you research my name on here, I am far from stupid, I just find it odd that nearly no one has taken the time to create a REAL step-by-step guide. Although, I do see a lot of people saying things like "maaaaaan, if you can't root fo shizzzz, don't be doing this stuff, you aint smart enuffzzzzzzz" ... which is bull****. The whole point of having access to this type of stuff, the internet, and most technology is so that we can teach one another. Since when did it ever become a "every man for themselves" world?

My mini-guide on installing Amon_Ra custom recovery
Thank you all for the replies, however, not one of them references the Optimus V specifically.
I suppose what I am looking for is someone that has this phone, has rooted it, and installed custom ROMs to overclock it.
I ask not because I don't think I can figure it out, but rather I don't have time to go digging through 34534859034805934805 posts of other platforms and then apply it to my platform, the Optimus V.
I guess I would go ahead and say that it doesn't exist, and when I have time I will create a step-by-step to make it easier.
I just want to install a simple rom that allows me to OC the phone to 806MHz. I don't want Cyan, I don't even want Gingerbread. I just want the 2.2.1 installed to be running at 806MHz.
What I mean by the last comment is that there is not a step-by-step guide that shows from point A to point B. How to get from HERE to THERE.
For example:
Ungaze - While your post is quite simple, it doesn't address the fact that you also have to have many other things installed, correct? For instance, the Android SDK, and if that is the case, where does one get it? (I have it, I am just using this as an example). Where do I type the lines of code you are referring to? On the phone, or on the computer? Do you see what I am saying?

No. You got it wrong. Ungaze's method for installing recovery does not depend on anything other than the requirements mentioned in his post ie. you do not need Android SDK or anything else.
type the lines of code in the terminal emulator app installed on your phone.
You can get it HERE.
If you read my post, you would see that I was using that as an example. There are clearly steps missing there. In other words, if someone just purchased the Optimus V, brought it home, and did those 4 steps listed, they would not be able to root and install custom ROMs.
I did some digging and just installed the Bumble Bee ROM and Kernel. Works great so far, and the phone is much snappier. I will be posting a step-by-step guide for the "stupid noobs" of the world later tonight. I think that the average joe should be able to enjoy these customizations as well. Call me crazy.
those steps (on ungaze's post) are not meant to root the phone or install custom ROM's on the phone, but only to install custom recovery on a rooted phone.
Haven't tested it myself, so I cannot guarantee that it will work.
I had used the instructions given in the 'step-by-step guide' I mentioned earlier. ie.
[HOWTO] Rooting, Installing - Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's
And, I had no problems in rooting, installing recovery and custom ROM on my phone which is an unbranded LG P500.
I have no experience with Optimus V, so to give instructions regarding installation would be futile.
Exactly, I am not putting you down, I was just stating that there is a not an easy step-by-step guide for people who are not Android savvy.
I will be posting a How-To and Troubleshooting Guide soon. To go from a new phone off the shelf to rooted and Bumble Bee ROM or the like.

The very first reply that had the very first link was to a step by step guide just for Optimus V. It has every single recovery, rom, kernel, and hack for the Optimus V and a step by step guide on how to install them. You're just too lazy to read.
So to answer your question: yes, you are.

LOL, you're so harsh. But I'd be lying if I say I don't agree .
Too lazy? I have it done and completed. I was referring to the fact that, for those who are not super savvy, there is no guide that leads them step by step from the time they get the phone home from the store.
I just think it would be nice to have sometime easy to follow. It has nothing to do with laziness, it has to be with providing users with a better experience. I work 60+hrs/week, and travel non-stop, I am far from lazy. I just don't have a lot of time, like many other people as well, to be reading through 8923843 "guides" that are misleading, filled with misinformation, or are incomplete.

Well, I guess 83948720 of people here have got it right with no complaints at all about the guides which are misleading and filled with misinformation and are of course incomplete.
Let's get the facts straight. If you made this post/thread of yours asking for help, then here we are, helping you out to the best we can, did we not? Now, if you come here whining about the guides being incomplete and incomprehensible to your "far from stupid" intellect then you're getting no where as no one is paying anyone here. these guides are here to help each other in exchange of nothing. The guides we make, we make it with our free time. Post as many threads like this as you want and trust me, you won't get anywhere. Now, if you come here asking people to make you a guide for you, then I suggest chaning your first post message to something like this:
"go#$am(it, make me a guide specifically for people with no time to research and easy enough that even my dog can do it for me. I have no time to check everything so don't even think of missing one bit of information. I don't care if you don't have enough time cause I don't have enough time to understand your situation. So get to work and give me my damn guide NOW"

I guess that would clear up most of the misunderstandings.
HOLY SHAT! It's like talking to a retard with a plastic bag over his head.
I don't need help, I was/am able to figure it out. I just wanted a simple step by step guide. Point A to Point B. Simple.
I am referring to all of the other posts I have read on here. Look under the Nook Color information for guides that I have created for others. I am about helping people, and making things simple.
For some reason it seems as though the majority of the people here have huge egos. Sure they have this facade of helpful gleam, but they all write crap like "if you question is stupid don't bother" ... "if you don't know what this is, you're an idiot don't try this" ... since when is that a logical and helpful way to making people learn or understand concepts they are new to?
You obviously never clicked that link.

I did click the link, actually. It was the most helpful. Thanks.
Actually after clicking the first link i get "only registered and activated members can see links" about 400 times
That's not what the OP, or I, am looking for!
And the other links with 800 different fonts and colours are not helpful to people. try and format your stuff like you mean it, not like a fairy threw up on your guide! this isn't geocities!

looking to help a friend root her evo

Just a quick question why are there two dev sections for this device? what is the difference? is one for the older gb and froyo roms and the new for ICS and soon to be jellybean? I am looking into how to root this for a friend. I have a samsung gs2 with an unlocked bootloader I have never rooted a phone with a locked bootloader. So how do you guys go about this? For my phone I have a pc program called odin that does low level flashing so all I do is use it to install cloclworkmod or twrp and then flash su and install the.apk and busybox. Is there sometihng similar for this phone or does everything have to be done by ADB? If someone explains which dev section I should go to I will figure it out myself but the more info yoy guys can give me the better. I do still have to find out what software my friend has. I also want her to do this by herself so I want to be able to explain it to her. Thanks in advance.
Use this. It's doesn't it all for you.

The Android Development and Original Android Development forums are organized pretty much as they sound: Original Development will have threads for programs, mods, roms, kernels, etc. that are the original work of the developer. Android Development has threads for those that are built off of someone else's existing work (e.g. A rom that is a collection of tweaks pulled from other roms). I agree with the previous poster on using regawMOD, it is the simplest way to unlock the bootloader, flash a recovery and gain root access all at once. That being said, if your friend is on 1.22.651.3, there is an additional step to manually move the root package to the sd card. Read page 80-84 on the dev's thread for more info.

I would suggest you to read about rooting , unlocking boot loader and different topics associated with it instead of directly jumping into the practical.
Make sure you understand the process before doing it , because in rarest cases , if the device gets bricked or gets any issues , at least you'll have an idea about what could have possibly went wrong .
Make sure you have the LGNPST and the stock bins handy for your E970. Read the LGNPST tutorial once , so at least if anything goes wrong you can take care of it.
All the best.

Make sure you backup your EFS partition...freegee should automatically do that...you'll need that if your GPS dies.
Hopefully you don't need LGNPST and bins, but make sure your aware of it.
Not sure if it's still needed, but you can update your boot loader, so that you don't have to 'blind navigate' into recovery.
I would take the time to read every page of your desired roms thread.
Good luck and welcome to the club.

The second sticky in the first forum section is about rooting, unlocking, etc., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946. Read that, and check the other stickies in the General and Development sections. And the best advice outside of that has already been shared in this thread: have LGNPST and a stock image ready, as they are your savior if you mess up or something goes awry.
there is a LOT of info already available here, enough for me to get KitKat running well enough. But of course if you have any specific hiccups along the way there are people here to help.

{tried} failed new to lg bootloader (have looked)

hey all, new to lg bootloader unlock, not soo much on other devices, my personal fav. (hero) one of my 1st. anyway, i have read 4 dif ways of unlocking the bootloader, and some i rtied and some i did not (yet) try due to being kindah scared. plz inform me which is the best way and is there something i missed, i have looked around all day and really.... there has to be a better way. (1) chinese method {http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439667 / http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2553547} allthou i have found many links this one explains it the best due to its simplicity, 2 the whacked out method {http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639} this i wasnt ready to try yet as i work 18 hours a day and i need to get up at 5 tomorow. amen to the working men. 3 + 4 were just stupid sounding so ill avoid them but the 2 main ones were posted by many people in many fasions. #1 i tried says my phone is rooted when checking is root checker, but its not really because a. i cannot run apps which require root and b. how could i be if my bootloader is not unlocked. im tired and drunk from all this after work work.... plz someone point me twords an easier way to do this. and if there isnt any since march 2013 then at least tell me that #2 will work if i do it right. ty
ps. this is not a question but a demand and sorry for the grammer havent been in the us in ages.
First, wrong section. This should be in questions or general section.
Second, there's a chance LG really did lock more recent users out of their bootloaders. Possibly with a OTA update, or just manufactured that way. It's not a process others would hold your hand through, and it's beyond frustrating to even help when also being stuck on a locked bootloader as well
The unlocked users have tried to the best of their ability to explain what the process is, and it's been reposted over and over and over so now it's a whole big mess and it's really confusing. The oldest guides worked best and proved to help out more users.
All I can say at this point is good luck, hope you figure it out because everyone else is just as stuck at this as you are.

All I can say at this point is good luck, hope you figure it out because everyone else is just as stuck at this as you are.

yeh thx a lot, the problem is i have a 2gb internal and even thou the phone can handle gta and games like that i just do not have enough space. cannot put on sd as not rooted. the chinese root worked, then used superuser as main app. but still no go on the sd transfer. maybe the bootloader is the issue. or its just saying im rooted but not really.

If you can install the bootstrap recovery that works on locked bootloaders try using that and flashing kuma's modded stock ROM, I recommend it :good:

If people could look around before asking redundant questions new threads, that'd be absolutely fantastic. Google "LG Optimus L9 bootstrap recovery."

Flash back to 10b is the only fix. No other versions can be rooted.

My suggestion would be to read more as this can ruin your phone if you don't know what you are doing. Not trying to be rude....but you need to study the subject. Check out the tutorials all over the LG G3 section

Two methods, one is flashing a .tot file, the other is flashing a .kdz.
I include a link to the post for the .tot approach, the .kdz one is found in a thread in the Verizon G3 General forum area, a post by annoyingduck.

Doesn't matter if you ever had it, you can still put it on. I'm sure you are on 11c, otherwise stump wouldn't say its patched.
The previous post has the links you need to get it reverted to an older version.

Arrogant ****s like YOU are the biggest "tech" problem, this person clearly stated they they were not tech savvy yet you still talk down to them.
That's my favorite part of the "online community"...everyone's a tough guy.
As a parting gift, I'll give you this: Do a little homework before you reply to this in ANY way that could be deemed disrespectful.
