hi, im new here because i dont know where else to turn. using odin v3.09 i assigned a file to the "AP" section that i had assumed to be a working md5 for my galaxy s3. i tried to flash and it failed. so i closed odin and unplugged my phone. now it will only boot into odin mode and says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please use software repair assistant and try again" does anyone know how i can unbrick this phone? help greatly appreciated
edit: cannot boot to download mode
If it won't boot into download mode then you either need a USB jig or a repair shop.

Hi Guys,
My cousin's phone(GT-I9100) was soft-bricked at first. He was on Stock ICS and this **it happened with an OTA update via wifi. He purchased the phone in Germany and warranty period was over.
It has the following issues:
Enters Download mode but does NOT enter recovery mode (confirmed NAND rw corruption)
Doesn't flash
Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)
I have tried all the methods including the bootloader flashing. But all the time flashing via odin stops and when I have flashed the mentioned Kernel(Kernel_I9100XXLPH) it wasn't success. Hope was lost .
Now somehow still the download mode works but when I start the phone , its showing that "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
When connected through Kies, the phone is not recognized. Please help me on how to recover my phone.
I have followed the guide mentioned here
BTW tried to flash through heimdall also on a linux system. Below error occured
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -3
Tried to re-partition using the pit file from here. But it stucked at
"Setting up PIT"
Was it completely bricked? Is there any other way to restore?
Do I need to change the motherboard or something to get the phone running?

Hi there,
I read your post and I have the *EXACT* same same problem, everything you described is what my phone is doing. I have a SGS2 GT-i9100M.
Were you ever able to find a solution to the problem?
Don't know how much this'll help but there was a thread a few days ago where someone faced the same issue. Flashing via Odin fails and the firmware error. Turns out he hadnt plugged he phone into a USB port connected directly to the computer. ie. Not via a hub or a USB port on the keyboard etc. Odin has problems with that. Also disabling KIES while on Odin. And finally the firmware should be one of your device variant itself.
Hope it helps.

did you manage to get anywhere with this? i had a similar type of issue, took a usb jig to get the system working again
Hey guys, how is it going?
I have a major problem.
I was attempting to upgrade to 4.4.2 using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868
I made it to step 6. But ODIN failed and never completed. I couldn't get ODIN to successfully flash. Now as a result, when I turn on the phone it states "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". (installed Kies and cant get the phone to connect to Kies)
I am able to trigger download mode and the phone is recognized by ODIN on my computer. I have tried multiple different methods to recover using various images and all fail during flash using ODIN.
I am not sure where to go from here, any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Are you sure md5 of odin files are good? Are u using the Verizon USB cable. Have you tried different USB ports? Different computer? Have you tried odin 3.09? 3.07?

hello,
I have a samsung galaxy S2 Model GT-I9100G. I was trying to flash a custom recovery CWM using odin and it apparently showed FAILED. The phone rebooted and ever since its been displaying the message "Error: Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" . I cant get into download mode of my phone to flash anything. I installed kies and my phone is being detected by odin. Can anyone help me with the issue, I have a nandroid backup too.
Is it possible to flash through odin without my phone getting into dowload mode? How can i unbrick my phone...Any help will be appreciated.
The phone is in download mode now. Just use Odin and flash the right things.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which was running Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M12 which had been running for a while but then I decided to revert back to the Samsung Stock ROM but chose to do it using Mobile Odin.
I have to admit that despite the phone warning me I had only 46% charge and needed 50% I foolishly thought the difference was so minor that it didn't matter. It did matter.
The phone stopped during the flashing process and now I see the Mobile phone . . Exclamation Mark yellow triangle . . PC icon on my phone screen with the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I cannot get into recovery mode. I can get into Download Mode and I have tried to flash the stock ROM using Odin and Windows 7 (PC) but it stops dead at "Setupconnection" and Heimdall and Ubuntu 14.04 (laptop) but Heimdall does not see the device either. I have tried three different USB cables in 5 different USB sockets in my PC and 3 in my laptop.
I thought of using a USB Jig but from research it appears that would only put the phone in download mode which I can already do myself.
Does anyone have any other ideas please?
download any new firmware from sammobile.com and go to download mode and reinstall the new firmware
https://www.finddee.com/how-do-i-download-the-latest-firmware-for-my-samsung/
just follow this tutorial i know it for Samsung galaxy note 3 but follow the instructions after downloading your firmware from this link
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Suddenly my phone went into bootloop and couldn't access recovery. So I tried to flash firmware with odin, toward the end of the flash odin failed as the USB cable was unfortunately disrupted. Now the only thing I can get out of the phone is download mode, and a screen that says firmware ugrade encountered an issue, Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. Now the problem with this is now odin nor Kies will recognize my phone like there are no drivers. My pc says unrecognized device connected.
Please help me to unbrick my S2 GT-19100. I REALLY NEED THIS BACK TO LIFE.
Hi,
If you haven't done so already, please follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-t2345831
If your phone is still not detected after following the guide, it is likely that your phone is bricked.
