I have the 8GB variant of P780. It says that it has a 1GB RAM but I only have about 300-100 free RAM everytime. I always kill all the apps but it only gives me upto 350, what happens to the remaining number? I'm not even running any apps in the background. Ever since the kitkat update, this never got solved.

Apps like 'Tasker' 'Green power app' etc can help u out in reducing the same AFAIK
Hello,
Before i start, yes, im a noob, but im here to try to help as many people as i can.
So after the jelly bean update on the Xperia tablet S, the tablet became laggy. The reason why is because for some reason the tablet only runs on 2cores out of 4cores. To fix this:
Before you start: Root is needed!!
~1 : factory reset :(backup before you start.) Why? Because when you update to jb and dont factory reset after the upgrade, it will be very laggy and buggy, Dont know why, but try it.
- could also just skip this if you dont want to back up and etc
~2 : install an app calld tegra overclock.
~3 : after that: open the app
go to core count
enable all cores
enable on boot
~done, should run way way smoother and faster.
Note: This app is a paid app. doesnt cost much, but its very very usefull.
: There is a difference between Xperia tablet S and Sony tablet S !
Hit that thanks button of this did work for you .

Try rebooting/re-installing the app. If you paid for the app, send the owner a message, if you found it on google, find a new one .
Works fine on all my tegra3 devices.
If it still doesnt work, try a root check.

Same issues I found that the cores were coming on but then being killed again and the min and max were swapped I would say imo there is a kernal conflict with sonys battery saving scripts they have in there which seems to me the whole reason the bootloader and recovery is locked
rooted lighting wildfire on unoffical j.b from benni
and sony XTS rooted stock j.b thanks djrbliss

There is no performance drop because its not working in the first place we need a custom kernal or device specific permissions for the kernal to do what its told sony have set this them selves and unless the maker of this app has done the work then im sceptical for the moment even set cpu im not sure on buit I could be wrong definitely increased battery usage but im certain its due to the wifi cutting in and out its akin to a flursents bulb takes more energy to start up then always being on

edit
I dont think this is a real issue, i can get the same scores on Antutu as on android 4.0.3.. Games lag a bit, but i guess that is the negative of JB.
I like this option to get more speed on games but I dont really have a game that has a need for it right now.
Btw, i Think i found out why the performance drops alot after the update. I think Sony messed up the update, and made the update for the Sony tablet S (which is Tegra 2) And also enabled it for Sony Xperia Tablet S (Tegra3). And maybe that causes it to run on 2Cores instead of 4.
Ram usage is around 280mb on my XU without any app installed even after I tried 4.1.2 v4 unofficial
I tried bloatware uninstall, hard factory reset also but still same result
Do anyone has some kind of solution or should I refer to Sony service centre to bring back ram issue back to normal after unrooting and locking bootloader???
Please suggest as when I first put official ics ram usage was around 180mb
Thats normal.
Try this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2414390
Also, try using greenify.
But this was not situation before

Even in official ICS I dont know what I installed, changed or removed, but all of a sudden ram usage jumped 100 mb without any more app installed with same configuration
I just want to undo that and want my smooth running phone which it used to be:crying:

I was extremely liking UI of Jelly bean on XU but those bugs and 60mb free ram broke my patience
and After all the searching and hard work, I m going for gb rocks v3
Hope It doesnt contain bugs I faced before :crying:
But most of the apps available now are upward compatible from 4.0(For example:Xposed Framework,Nova Launcher, almost all the holo themed apps)......
You may face some issues there..
I have created this thread for requesting the devs for compiling cm7 ROM for our wave's device
As everybody knows that wave has very less ram and in jb and kitkat ROMs after installing several apps and gapps it lags like hell
so if anybody can build cm7 for waves it will be appreciated for devs it will not take much effort so please make it
Hm good idea..
But:
1. Source od Android 2.3.6?
2. Kernel (zImage)?
Bootloader and Fota we have.
A Early build You can find
AT this Forum its froyo
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Free mobile app

well i have knowledge in porting ROM, it would be easy to port bettwen i9000 and s8500, just edit kernel, keys, build.prop and some google codes.. but i dont have testdevice, i to brick phone is very easy with this
If you use badadroid as basis, you can't brick the phone since it do everything on virtual partitions...
But it need to adapt all the work oine by the badadroid team on a GB kernel
Maybe possible to use Oleg froyo sourrces, update to GB and backport all new things from badadroid (wave 2 compatibility,modem,wifi,gps...)
I think GB also work with 3.x kernel so there is nothing to worried cause jb and kitkat also uses same version of kernel
Now, this is interesting, given the amount of RAM we have nothing would run better than GB.
Hmm.. true story

I have one really wierd question that might piss off some badroid devs, and I am very sorry about that. But, why was kitkat ported to Wave and not JB ot GB? I mean, low RAM is really a bad problem and with GApps, the lag is a bit anoying.

Jb has been ported to wave, (Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3) but are not updated (see old badadroid threads) (GPS is only on 4.4 i think, maybe on 4.3).
Also, ICS has been ported to wave 1 by mike (that's the beginning of Badadroid project), upgrading the GB kernel from Oleg, if i remember correclty (that's old). But in Mike ICS or Oleg GB, only wave 1 is supported, and there is no network.
kitkat is big joke from google
even wave2(ics) is faster than note2(kitkat)
google was saying at the time of release of kitkat that it is optimised for low ram device
but its very hard to find anything running official kitkat with less than 1 gb ram
BTW to my understanding virtual RAM partitions on solid storage are very likely to damage it if I'm not wrong.
And yeah, KKs main goal was to fix the nonsensical performance hit taken from the 4.3 update, IMO they could have done even better by trying to optimize it for even lower end hardware, such changes would be noted around the whole device lineup, still its noticeably better than 4.3 and pretty close to 4.2/4.1 levels

zRam doesn't damage nand or SD, but swap does.
zRam use real RAM and compress it, but swap create file on SD or Nand, and constantly write on it.
Flash memory have a limited write lifetime (like SSD), so, using swap is not good for flash memory.
Not dangerous, but it use it faster.

But, I did not make the swap file on SD card, but in the internal partition of bada, that is the bada_app or something like that. All I know is that it is in the internal memory, so if I use it, will it damage it ?

Yeah, as BenzoX said, use a microSD for the swap partition, if you kill the internal storage you'll probably be screwed.

OK! So, thats the kind of sh!t you dont wanna do. Deleting it ASAP. Thanks for the info guys.
But, without that, the ROM is pretty slow.
