Verizon's visual voice mail is giving me lots of problems on the G3. Well actually the same problems after the kitkat update on the G2 too. 50% of the time I get a no data connection error and have to refresh. That or turn off wifi for a while which seems to handle it better. It's a real nuisance. Anyone else see anything like this? I'm thinking it's a combination of Kitkat and Verizon.
Yes. It's horrible. Same on Droid Maxx.
My solution is perfect. Use youmail visual voicemail. And use the app better youmail. It avoids the annoying contact sync that youmail uses. And you can change every setting and then some.
The only feature that doesn't work is, if you integrate the voicemail in your call log, it will show up but you can't hit play. But if you have a notification of a missed voicemail it will play from there just fine.
Highly recommend. Worth the cost.

thx, but the reviews seem to sketchy and really Verizon should fix this.
The reviews are good from my friends and family. Just refund it if you don't like it. Trust me messages never expire

They also don't say how much it is on the play site. Is it a monthly service or one time charge?
One time charge for the app. 4.99 I think. It's worth it. No annoying contact sync that youmail app has.

The voice mail notifications seem to clear and not return whereas on my s3 cleared voice mail notifications would come back.
To me it is the worst thing about the phone. It's almost unusable. How can it be so hard to manage voice mail? This is the kind of stuff that makes me re-think iphones as an option. . . . nah.. not yet.
Seriously, it is a hand off issue I think. This should just silently fail until it gets a good enough signal. It's just amazingly annoying otherwise.
If I put in my T-Mobile sim and install their visual voicemail, it works great. Same with Cricket.

Google Voice.
By the way, I tried that Youtalk app and it was the worst piece of S I have ever tried to use. It didn't work at all. I'll just suffer through the missed data connections of the Verizon app.
Why not use Google voice?

It's a work phone and I don't want to use Google voice. I want Verizon voicemail to work correctly. If it can't work on wifi, then it should ignore wifi. It doesn't. verizon needs to fix this to work better.

I mean we are on an android OS... The beauty of android is that if your voicemail app isn't working you have tons of options in the play store for visual voicemail. I would recommend YouMail..best visual voicemail out there IMO..

Amen to youmail! Love using it with better youmail app to avoid annoying contact sync and gain extra features. Disappointed that vm call log integration doesn't work well though.

Hello All,
I used to have an iPhone 3G, where my voicemail was easily available via the dialer. I have not checked my voicemail since I've bought my Atrix 4G (which has been over a month). I'm not sure if rooting, and theming may have screwed up my settings or not, but I attempt to access my VM and it asks me for a mailbox #. WTF?!? I never EVER recall setting up one, as far as I know it was just there and tied to my phone. I was able to access my VM by calling my phone number from my cell, but now I attempt to do that and I get a busy signal.
A tad frustrated, so sorry for the crazy rant above. Has anyone else experienced the same/similar situation? And if so, is there a way to fix it? I don't want to result in calling Customer Service/Tech Support for ATT until I've attempted to troubleshoot things here, since they will probably ask me "have you done anything to your phone" and I'll have to be like, "Yes, I attempted and succeeded in making it better from your and Moto's BS filled phone."
Thanks all for your time!
Press and hold the #1 on the keypad for vm.
If it asks for a mailbox number, you will have to call AT&T.
This is typical for users going from visual voicemail to standard voicemail.
Some AT&T reps forget to reconfigure your vm.

I thought anybody with a Google phone would know to use Google Voice.
When you cone from iPhone they cancel your VM. You have to get them to set it up again, then you can use it.

This is what I use, but it doesn't hurt to have the carrier's VM to fallback on.
Has anyone found a solution to the missing "waiting voicemail" indicator after upgrading to the latest ROM 2.11.605.0? Is this still a known issue?
It really sucks having to rely on the missed calls indicator to determine if you maybe have a voicemail or not.
Thanks in advance for any information on this.

Nope. GV is free. Nothing to do with the vvm plan. I like the transcribed messages when people actually speak clearly. It's nice if you're in a meeting. I've been using it since it was first released and I've loved it the whole time. Individual outgoing messages is nifty too.
known gingerbread issue, +1 on google voice.
Since upgrading to a GB ROM I have an issue with the VM indicator not going away after I clear out my voicemail box. Is this issue related to the missing indicator with GB ROMs?
thanks

Yes, all gingerbread roms have VVM issues. It probably won't be fixed until the final release of gingerbread is out. Google voice is free, and can email or text you transcripts of your voicemails, as well as let you look at them with the Google Voice app.
I travel out of the US a lot, so getting emails of my messages and being able to listen to them over WiFi is a huge plus for me.

Google voice can do texting over wifi and calling but I don't know how the calling part works but for texting it will do what you want over WiFi.

I would also love to know if there's any way to text/voice call over wifi, since I never get signal at a certain place. I have to walk around the building like an idiot looking for signal.
However, I'm with Rogers in Canada, and Google Voice doesn't work here. Any ideas?
There may be something else that can do that through some tweaks. I'm not sure what tho... Google for some "alternatives to Google voice"

I've heard from a people on Sprintusers that GV now supports MMS.
I've used and tried GrooveIP with some success, but the call quality has been very inconsistent, even within the same call. I haven't tried since it was updated, so perhaps it's gotten better. You might want to give it a try and see how it works for you.
I can not find any visual voicemail in the past two roms i have ran. i am on team venoms viperez rom now. when i get a voicemail it says in a txt to reinstall VM? i cant find it in the market? what do i do?

Every time someone asks about Verizon branded Visual Voicemail, most users say this. There are so many reasons I personally use VZW VVM. For one, I like having 2 separate VM inboxes, one is GV for my business calls, the other is VZW for my personal calls. Second, it's convenient. Third, I get it for free.
GV for voicemail is not an end-all solution.

Seriously thank you though.
Is there any reason that Joel wouldn't use this solution for his roms? Does it affect any other parts of the rom?
I don't use google voice, because for the 2 days that I tried it, over half of the missed calls gave the caller an error about not being able to connect (can't remember the exact verbage) and did not give them an option to leave a voicemail.
I use my phone for work, and I can't afford to deal with missing voicemails.

Here is one:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/254733/three_things_you_should_know_about_google_voice.html
There are lots of others if you Google "Google voice free ending 2012"
Only reason I ask is like others have mentioned GV doesn't have MMS so without it if they start charging users - they're going to lose a lot of potential customers to, mainly, Skype.
Anyway, I hope it doesn't end and it gets extended into 2013. We'll see. GrooVeIP is still working well and if Google Voice starts charging I'm sure there are other alternatives around
Enjoy it while it lasts!
