You can make your own ftf. Repair firmware with update service, then we'll help you with thw next steps.

hm.. but update service will give him .62 not .42, right? or are you thinking on making prerooted image? hm now i got idea
@ prazadx: are you willing to do clean flash with pc companion or sony update service, then we'll instruct you how to make .62 .ftf, but it will be around 150MB after you zip it, wich you would need to upload..
then if your phone is sim-lock free your fastboot should be open, and it should accept prerooted .img.
even if your bootloader is locked i think it only matter for kernels.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
its here mate
Just flash this with flashtool (extract using winzip or eqivalent first to get the ftf), root using flashtool, update OTR, install cmw and you are fine.

I'm gonna perform this flashing with flashtool. all i need is to downgrade my current firmware to .42, so that i can root my device. also this is a sim lock free device with a locked bootloader.
is there any other way to root without downgrading??
also, thanks mate..
There are another way to root but you need to unlock your bootloader, sorry I cant put links, but if you search right here in this Forum "unlock bootloader" you would see the options to do that.
Definitly this way is the only you have without unlockink bl. Thats all the peoplo say because I cant flash .42 on mine....flashtool stop always before 100% I will format pc...i dont know what other thing can be.
Any suggestion??

What SI number? I tried to create a backup of my fw 188 but it failed, cause server tells me no such firmware
So I have to find any ftf for my SI 1261-9039, because now I have no backup...
On my XU with fw188 was a bug that all custom contact ringtones was ignored, so maybe is something wrong with this firmware...
My SI number is 1261-9036.I gues something was wrong with it(i mean version .188)so when i went to repair phone throught PC companion it downloaded .184.You can freely instal this firmware because it's completely free of carrier and there is no difference with that firmware that you used to have.

Yes I know it will work on every phoíne, but in case of warranty claim Sony require the installed firmware to be for my SI (SI that is written under the battery).
So I really do not want to use Ginger bread at all, but I need FTF for my SI in case I will have to contact sony support in case of possible warranty claim...

Updates are region and/or provider dependant.
You can take your chances and flash generic world formware.

I want to do it so i can root my phone, but since I've never done this, I'm a bit insecure and hesitant.
From the research I've done rooting my Xperia P is preferred to be done with the latest firmware which I don't have.
What would you suggest I do? I am completely new to this.
Thanks

Like before you do anything with your phone, take a full backup with PC Companion, and backup other data it doesn't manually.
Then you will need to download and install flashtool, install the drivers for Xperia P, flash mode, and fastboot mode with the drivers installer from drivers directory under flashtool directory.
Find and download generic 6.2.A.1.100 firmware file and flash it.
Exclude TA when you flash.
I have my firmware uploaded here, it's a two part 7-Zip, archive.
You may look for others that are more sutable for your region.
To root 6.2.A.1.100 use DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
My phone is acting really crazy and I can't do a backup with PC Companion, nor with the phone app for backup, but I don't care anymore.
I'll try everything you suggested and let you know if it worked.
Thanks a lot, you have been more than helpful. I really appreciate it.
Help!
After root z2 does not care, get the black screen.
The Sony logo appears and then the screen goes black ....

I think before you reccomend that method we have to know what model is he using and where did he get it from? as sometime different country has different LTE frequencies, also without knowing which model is he using (I mean D6503 and D6502) it might cause brick his device?
Just waiting for OP's reply

Thx for provide me infos. I think you can simply flash ftf using flashtool. and newest firmware is .438. Just note that sometime LTE frequencies may not match to your carrier specify model and can't connect to your LTE network. I hope you know how to use flashtool if not don't worry there is many theread about flashtool on Z2 forum. And next time you have to backup all your data and rom before you try to root it. Good luck.
