Hey guys, I was wondering if the new Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet will take calls just like a normal Xperia smartphone.
I ask this because I am considering purchasing a Z Ultra but I prefer an even bigger screen if possible, would the Z3 Compact Tablet also take calls, where I can keep it to my face and talk?
I heard it will require a Bluetooth headset in order for you to use it as a phone.
I am confused as to which one to get, any help would be appreciated!

According to this video you put it up to your face.

There is no proximity sensor...
I think you can make a call only with bt headset or
hands-free mode.

True. Maybe it can use the ambient light sensor in combination with the gyro, although that's unlikely. We'll have to wait for a more in depth review I guess.
Pleeeeeeease...
I hope this thing is a full-fledged phone... Especially since the back glass recently cracked on my Z Ultra...
I'll just leave this here...

Interesting, because no where on that linked specs page does it specify that the device is NOT a phone. Quite the opposite in fact (bold/italic emphasis is mine)...
**** In compliance with IP65 and IP68, the Xperia™ Z3 Tablet Compact is protected against the ingress of dust and is waterproof. Provided that all ports and covers are firmly closed, the phone (1) is dust tight, (2) is protected against low-pressure jets of water from all possible directions in compliance with IP65, and (3) can be submerged under 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes in compliance with IP68.

Unfortunately, I fear a definitive answer will need to wait until the device is actually available and we get some reports from those who have purchased it.
SXZ3TC can be used as a phone, but since he hasn't conversational speaker, just normal speaker, everyone others will hear your interlocutor. Also it hasn't proximity sensor, so won't lock screen. So more advisable use handsfree, especially that one with awesome noise reduction.

That is a bummer.
Translation. If you make a call on it it will be on the speakerphone... Bummer.
I will wait for the z3x. 6.2" phone.
(Even though i will be using my Bluetooth headset SBH-80,)
For the rare occasion i do not have headset connected, all i have to do is turn the speaker volume down so that you can USE IT LIKE A NORMAL PHONE.
No proximity sensor? Just hit the power button and turn the screen off
if conversation is going to be long! When you want to finish the call, hit the power button to get to the dialer screen!
I just got my LTE Z3 tablet compact, and can confirm that it does have a dialer and that you can make phone calls with it. My friend had a nano - SIM card for T-mobile that rang through when we made a call.

"Best Tablet in the market
October 25, 2014
Let me just say that I have tried almost every tablet on the market that's worth something over the last two years.I am by default an apple fan boy, but always had a thing for Sony.
Having owned a z3, a z1, and an Xperia z tablet, I think I am in a position to say that this compact tablet outshines all of sonys current product line, as well as everything else out there, including the iPad mini.
I was fortunate enough to purchase this tablet from Europe, I have the 16gb version with lte. For those of you wondering if it will work with att, I have had minimal results. After playing with the apn, I finally gave up and plugged in my t-mobile Sim card that I have (200 mb free plan monthly for lifefrom old iPad promotion last year)no problems
Tablet is crisp, fast, thin and light, and a pleasure to type on. Screen is gorgeous, and I am eagerly waiting on the remote play app. I specifically bought this to connect To my ps4
So what are you waiting For? Pretty order this bamboo today, you will not regret it!"

There are two variants of LTE model, the reviewer fails to mention which one they are speaking of. The SPG-621 appears to have all the ATT bands.

Looks like large sized phones tends to have more flip cases than just shells. I'm not a fan of flips cases, prefer just shells/back-only casings.

How about any holsters? I'm thinking it might be easier to carry on my belt than it is in my pocket, and I prefer to use the phone without a case. So a thin horizontal holster might work.
It'll look very 90s, but I can live with that.

Sony will start selling a battery back up case soon. This will solve the issue of poor battery performance. According to staff at Sony Center KLCC, the Smartwatch 2, SBH52 bluetooth headset and more covers will be available later this month.

So it's like Sony Vaio's sheet battery? Sweet.
For the case, I'm inclined to buy the baseus cover.. The only downside is that looks like the magnetic charging port is blocked.. The nillkin hardcase seems to leave the corners more vulnerable, not to mention the a-lot-to-break screen.. But on the plus side it is very simple and sexy.

I bought this one: http://amzn.com/B00KZ9G8TS
It has it's issues but works.
1. The top often occludes the proximity detector causing it to "black screen" (fix - modify the band or use xposed to modify the proximity software)
2. Like most armbands, the clear material isn't very sensitive.
3. The neoprene slides around unless you make it tight.
4. The key holder is too small for my subaru key.
Pros?
1. It's made specifically for the G3 - the size is right and the earphone holes are in the right place.
2. It's pretty comfortable
3. Uh ... it works?
All in all, my experience has been mixed. The whole thing works, but the G3 is a pretty damn big thing to have bouncing on your arm. My gf and I were joking that it would be better as a WRIST band, where it'd look like I was using a wrist-band tricorder or something...
Im using the one below. Perfect fit and holes line almost good. Bud you cant go wrong for 7$ bugs free shipping. Shipping arround two weeks to canada. USA most likely little over a week

That's the one I have and I would recommend it despite the issues. I second the "black screen" issue. Did you use GravityBox to modify? If so what did you set the Brightness Settings to?
I put my house key in mine and run to the park where i run but I know it certainly wouldn't fit most car keys, especially Subaru.
I agree the fitment is pretty solid, the G3 is a large device to wear on your arm. I might need new headphones and I am having some issues with my TripleFi 10s

I'm following sony internet shop for a couple of days now and it still says that SCR24 is coming soon.
Does anybody have any info when is this case to be released?
P.S. I was hoping before 3rd of November (amazon.co.uk info).

Annoyed to get an email from Amazon saying it has slipped almost a month (Nov 4th on my email).
I wonder if there's a quality control issue or something with them?
Here's their reply to me on Twitter when inquired about the slip in availability: " Delays can sometimes happen with these kind of things and they're always subject to change sadly. Stay tuned!". Means nothing. Too bad Sony is releasing so many flagship phones a year that it's accessories market is apparently unable to keep the pace. The same happened for the ACX2 cover to mount QX10/QX100 lenses on the Xperia Z1: an updated version for the Z2 was never released (I requested updates to Sony on every social media channel so many times I lost count about this), while theses lenses were still sold at the time they phone was announced... I've had my Z3 the very day it was on the market and I love it. It bothers me there's no decent cover from Sony for it yet.
This case cost 60 bucks....? is it even worth it lol?
This is unfortunately how Sony Works, they have no clue how to launch a product. They have the resources to release accessories on time but 9 times out of 10 they get delayed a few times. Some anticipated products dont even get released (see qi charging case for z2 and keyboard case for z2 tablet). Even the much loved zultra power case was in very limited supply on could only be purchased in certain countries. Some days I have to tell myself to be patient and not throw the towel in and convert to Samsung. It would be costly for me but its always at the back of my mind.
Sony has a history of being late with accessories. I'm thinking of when it released Vaio laptops, and even some Minidisc players. It's annoying, especially for early adopters who are willing to pay for them perhaps more than others.
When it comes to things like cases, irrespective of the price, surely people want something to protect their phone from day one?
Exactly, the SCR24 would be the successor of the fairly good - in my opinion - SCR10 case that protected my Z2... I am frustrated there's no decent way to protect my Z3 at this time, save for a Beyzacases leather sleeve I bought for my Z2 that also fits the Z3 but is not as nearly as good a solution as a proper case. It's true, the SCR24 is expensive but also features some gimmicks I don't mind and, more importantly, I haven't found anything yet that could replace it...
Just a head's up, TODAY Sony changed on their official website from *coming soon to *new. Therefore, it's official SCR24 is official out.
If somebody sees it anywhere (EU), please paste the link here.
Hope so really need a case...

I have to say that after watching a video where it seems the cover doesn't stay shut easily, the fact it can't be folded into a stand (like the Z2 one) and the fact it sticks on - so I'd presumably need to remove the rear screen protector, or else it would pull it off - makes me sort of wonder if I actually want this cover.
I think I'll still get it, but could well find myself returning it quite quickly.
Maybe the sticky bit is what has caused the cover to be delayed. Sounds like a recipe for disaster if the phone falls off.
Edit: Got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NH2C2R2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 instead. Going to cancel my order now, or wait until I see what others have to say.

Hey all
So anybody up for the Oppo R5? On the face of it, looks like a great little package. Octa-core processor backed up with 2 GB of RAM and a beautiful AMOLED display with a ppi of 423, all thrown into a package just 4.9mm thick! There are downsides, with only 16GB of memory and no SD card slot, storage could be a issue for some, as could the lack of a headphone socket!
So although not perfect, this sleek device does have some attraction, who's in?

The phone is so friggin thin it would be awesome, however the lack of a headphone jack and expandable storage is a deal breaker for me. I can see why there is no headphone jack as the phone itself is 4.9mm and the jack is 3.5mm. It is a neat phone but not very practical.
I love this phone and can't wait to get one. However I'm not sure how here in Texas. Will probably stick with my Oneplus One for daily use and the R5 for showing off....

It looks gorgeous.
No head phones and sd card a real problem though....

It looks wonderful and I am hoping it will be released before too long so I can get my order in.
The lack of storage is a slight disappointment, ideally I'd like to see an SD/TF slot as it is easier to get stuff off and on to the 'phone through my iMac, but I can live with that given how slim it is. I can also manage without the headphone slot, either using an adapter or bluetooth.
As I don't use my 'phone that much, just an hour or two a day at most, the battery life shouldn't be a problem for me either. I can generally go 3 days before charging my Huawei Ascend P6, which isn't known for it's stamina so I should manage at least 2 days with the R5.
Of course I'll need a case for it too...
I just get one I mean preordered on. Now it s aveiable in the EU with a bonus power bank ..
I pre-ordered mine yesterday too.
Looking forward to getting my hands on it.
According to the OppoStyle website, it comes with a case so that will save me trying to find something to house it in initially. I'll then have some time to locate something that suits my needs, assuming the 'free' one doesn't...

I paid 399 Euros which worked out at 330 UK Pounds.
I got a free power bank which is VOOC compatible both for when it is being charged from the mains, and for when it is charging up a (VOOC compatible) 'phone, a European (two pin) VOOC charger which requires an adapter (not supplied) for UK 3 pin sockets. It also came with some headphones and Micro-USB to 3.5mm adapter as well as a clear plastic clip on back cover. (Not the 'leather' book style cover I was expecting)
att/straighttalk 3g
I got the 45 dollar plan from straighttalk.com which is using the gsm network of ATT . It works great, I also have the Nexus 6 and it has no signal from T-Mobile(sprint) at my house with NO wifi calling/txt when it said 100% of our new phones have it. I guess just not this new. I will wait, or maybe sell it. I really like the Oppo R5 more, because of its size, and because it gets actual cell reception(4barsH+). I still haven't gotten Gmail to work, Google Play services error, so if anyone knows, I would like to know. I read a msg from the phone itself that said it is compatible with most gs4 roms, so If I can figure that part out, I will be golden with lollipop. OK thanks.
From Singapore
I won the Oppo R5 at their roadshow. All I had to do is to smash walnuts with the phone.
The phone is really sleek. While there are no 3.5mm jack, the package includes the USB-to-audio adapter so you can plug your favourite earphones. The fast charging is awesome and helps to mitigate the small battery size.
I've written a review which you may check out here.

Hello folks, just after some advice.
The stunning 2inch screen, the functionalities & versality has drawn my attention to the samsung gear s, but i am just apprehensive how this device is holding up in 2017 with only a 512mb RAM given the requirements of today to run various apps etc
Would you still recommend it today, or does it suffer from lag/ crashing/sluggishness? Is it past it now? Would love to know tour thoughts. There are many on ebay for sale ranging from £100-£150.
Many thanks-
If you like square screen yes.
Gear S has more apps than all the news S2, S3. Almost all the good first apps wich works well on the first Gear 1/2/S are not ported to the new Gear. So old Tizen are better than the new.
Just one good point for the New Gear, no app but many many many ..... basic watch faces (but with no smart features like phone batt or weather or calendar events...)
Your stil good to go with this one of the best and beautiful watch.
Remember that you need a samsung phone for full functionality.

I got it few months back and i am really happy.
Great screen
Good battery
Comfortable to wear
Speaker and mic are really handy
Good amount of apps
I got for $100 as I believe this is how much a smartwatch deserves. I will never spend $300 $400 on a smartwatch.
Just bought it yesterday, to use it with my S6. .Its used, but in great condition . .still didnt catch all " tips and tricks ", but Im more than satisfied with it. . Screen, size and shape made mu buy it . .
Get a band with metal links... I'm not a fan of the stock band.
Constantly get compliments on it and as the other poster stated, the mic/speaker is very handy....being able to take a call on the watch (bluetooth) comes in handy when working with your hands.

There are no alternatives for sci-fi lovers. As well as for those who want to use stand alone handset. It still rocks!
Actually just got mine the other day second-hand from a jeweler on ebay. Original cradle, band and the battery still seems to hold a charge. Screen has a small scuff, but isn't noticeable unless in direct sunlight. I'm happy with it so far. The cradle is annoying and not nearly as nice as a Qi wireless charge pad, but the cradle acting as a backup battery is a nice touch. the screen on this little thing is beautiful though and easily beats out any over smartwatch I've used or tested in store. I'm really liking it.
Using with a Galaxy S8+ with no issue or hiccups yet.
If it weren't for the poor charging design, I would say that it is still worth the look. The charging. The piece on the watch that holds the cradle will snap at some point.

Sorry for the delay. No, I haven't installed Android Wear. Apparently there are still issues and some features that still aren't working so I haven't bothered.
I did check the Galaxy App store and it looks like there is an ereader like app available that can read several formats including off and epub called "Docs Reader"
I actually might pick it up myself.

I just picked up a mint condition AT&T Gear S at a local pawn shop for $60. I had one of these when they first released and have gone through various Android Wear watches and had a Gear S2 also since then. Was looking for a cheap smartwatch and have been pleasantly surprised. I've been getting about 2 days battery life paired to my S8+. The interface is a little slower so I have to be deliberate in my gestures but it's not annoying. Love the bigger screen. Notifications all work for me. I can reply on the watch to my Hangout conversations, very cool for an older watch.

Can I ask if Gear S works with OS Android 7(Huawei Mate 8)?
Thank you for your answer.
it works only with Samsung phones

From my understanding there is very limited functionality on non-Sansung devices, but it is technically possible unless I'm thinking or something else. Don't quote me in this.

I just bought a used Gear S for 50 euros. perfect condition but one question. I have a T-Mobile Sim card in my tablet and a Vodafone SIM in my S8. Can I use the phone in total standalone mode using any SIM card? I mean can I leave my phone at home and make calls and receive calls on the watch??
thanks in advance.
Depending on the model you bought, yes. The watch is basically a fully featured phone that can do calls, texts, mms, and will have both a cellular signal and data. You can leave your phone at home, I've done it a couple times while skating and didn't want to risk breaking my S8+
