This is CandyKat. Built straight from SlimRoms source with commits
from a variety of different Sources/ROMS. We wanted to give the users a fun,
fully customizable ROM.We aim to add more features as this project progresses.
We have also come up with the Candy Sweetener Pack. This is an Aroma installer
that is full of delicious treats. Inspired by the CandyShop thread on XDA it has
everything from glow dots to halo mods.

CandyKAT for G Pad 8.3 v-500, ROM for the LG G Pad 8.3

ROM OS Version: 4.4.x KitKat
Based On: SlimKat
Version Information
Status: Stable

Hi All,
Thank your for looking at this thread and maybe give CandyKAT a try...
Please note :
1°) CandyKat does not enable root access after it is installed. This causes CandyCenter to crash at first boot. This is normal... Just enable developer's options (7 times on "build version" under "About this tablet" in "Parameters") ; go to developer's options and under "Debugging" enables root for Apps (or for Apps and ADB) => VOILA ! Problem solved
2°) CandyKat is based on SlimRoms. It seems that Slim has a problem on some devices with "Plants vs. Zombies 2". This may occur here.
I have personally run this for 3 days on my own v500 for testing purposes and did not encounter a single problem with the ROM.

Nice job, thanks !!
Does this rom expect the 7 light brightness base (aka 4.2.2) or the fixed low brightness base 4.4.2 firmware?
Good to see a new ROM!

Hi Muriddin,
Can't answer that precisely as my v-500 is flashed with a v-510 4.2.2 base so it does not suffer form the 4.4.2 Base brightness bug.
But as this based on SlimROM, which is an AOSP ROM I expect the "bug" to be present...
Regards.

You answered what I wanted to know. I am sure you know this but for those who do not... The trade off here is the 4.2.2 base does not start dim but does have the seven dark spots on low brightness. The 4.4.2 base fixed the seven dark spots bug but the kernels built against the 4.2.2 base then have what is commonly called the brightness/dim boot bug.

Hi,
What is this "Seven dark sports on low brightness" ? I've never heard of it. And I don't think I've seen something like it...

On the 4.2.2 base the backlight is incorrectly calibrated for extremely low brightness settings. Most of my work with this tablet is at night at a brightness setting of 0. Which makes me see this issue all the time.
To see it, in a dark room, use gmail (it has a white background) at a brightness of 0 and turn the tablet sideways. Look at the bottom of the tablet (which is now the left side since you rotated it) where the backlight is mounted on most v500 models you will see seven dark spots at regular intervals.
The firmware change in 4.4.2 makes this issue go away. I run the red kernel with AOSP Roms I use because it needs the 4.4.2 base and this issue really bugs me.
I can get a picture and share it when I get home if you want...
Thanks for the new ROM by the way. I really appreciate seeing developers support this wonderful device.
My external sd card isn't mounted. Help me please
Can't get into landscape mode.

NEVER EVER EVER (and EVER) Flash other device's stuff to yours, even small mods, but baseband!!!! Never!!!

Yeah,I was curious what NexusPenguin was referring to.It sounds like some of the firmware base is interchangeable between the v500 and v510.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.

Wifi is buggy on cm sources also.. It works usually but you may or not face issues.. But its working decent enough.. Let me know once you flash it.. It's still very initial stages of carbon as many things are yet to be merged.. good night

Dirty Unicorns (DU) is a custom ROM originally based off AOKP, but now based from OmniROM. DU brings you a great mix of stability and customization. The idea to start a ROM like this was purely out of boredom, but later turned into a form of an addiction, a good one. We began to have fun while still doing things the right way. By doing so, we received high praise from not only our users but by fellow developers of other ROMs that enjoy seeing things done the right way. This ROM will always be free of charge without any strings attached or any of it's developers luring you into donating or any form of "pay to flash".
"Give credit and thanks where is due!" That's something that has fuel the way we do things! With that said, we would like to go ahead and credit those individuals and groups that have made this ROM possible with their original code and contributions to the Android community.....
| OmniROM | AOKP | ChaOS | Paranoidandroid | SlimROMs | Preludedrew | Team Black Out | Official Testers / Translators |
Believe it or not, we are human and we do forget things. If we have left someone out of the credit/thanks list, just PM us and we'll gladly add on to the list.

If you want SMS function, try to edit the framework-res.apk or use an Xposed Framework Module to enable.
Flashing that stuff should make it for you.
I think SMS will be enabled in the next build.

Probably the most stupid question ever, but...
Does that Rom also run on the Flo version?
Since I run DU on the Hammerhead, and I kind of like the same Roms on my devices, I really want to run DU on my non 3G Nexus 7 ...

I don't think he would in the near future, people keeps on asking him about it but his main concern is the RAM usage.

Btw Great ROM
interesting...
I'm starting to think these optimizations people are incorporating in their builds/kernels are not just placebo's.. I notice "something" when i use say a linaro and/or sabermod kernel from day to do use... I'm believing that people wouldn't be wasting their time if in fact these optimizations, toolchains, etc weren't "helping" in one way or another..
They say googles code is old and that they've been using the same code for years.. Im bound to believe people (linaro, sm) are actually making it better and up to date.. of course there might be bugs since its a work in progress, and i think thats why googles code is still "behind" because they 'know' its stable.. i mean, it makes sense in my mind at least..
A lot of people say that our n5's don't need these new toolchains, optimizations, etc and theyre perfectly right.. we don't need it (like cars.. people don't 'need' to tune/upgrade their cars but they (I) do anyways -- bought a new turbo for my car the other day actually ), BUT I'm believing that even when you don't "feel" the difference, the difference is there in some way making it 'better' .. does that make sense? idk, maybe I'm just blabbering.. But i like having an open mind and won't bash something that i haven't tested/used myself..
So to call these optimizations placebo's is quite ballsy if you ask me.. Its not all about "seeing" and/or "feeling" the difference, its about how the system reacts/responds differently (lack of a better, in depth sentence lol) i think..
Anyways, sorry for my little vent, but I'm interested in flashing this (when i get back to the dorm).. Especially since it doesn't have holo blue -- and maybe my theme(s) will work :fingers-crossed: (don't see why they wouldn't).
Thanks, bud for the build.
I'll be probably one of the very few hard-core rasta/trinity users who will flash this haha.
Wow new Unofficial Purity ROM .... Downloading......
Ha, when people say a rom like this one or the slimsaber one is placebo, I don't read anything else they have to say. They are either outright lying, or they have to wear a helmet to school. These roms fly and are the only thing I even flash on my phone now. I also understand why big roms like Slim use the regular tool chain. They have a ton of users, and everything needs to work perfect, so they do not want to have to troubleshoot a tool chain as well. But for me and my uses, it is 100% stable for the way I use my phone.
Anyway, this rom is awesome. I use the peek app with it for lockscreen stuff, and I use the LMT apk for pie, so I will not use miss Slim pie too much.
Thanks for putting this up Chet!
