Sorry if I missed the answer I'm looking for but I did search first, I tried editing a few .png files and after pushing the framework-res.apk back everything on my phone went into a force close loop, I tried pushing the original back and it did the same thing, any help?
I tried editing a PNG file the in call screen pic and pushed it to phone and same thing happened to me,no idea why
After you edit framework-res it must be signed you cannot simply flash it, first you must edit the images you choose, make sure the names stay the same, make it an apk, sign the apk, the reload in the rom by pushing it.
Cheers,
Captainkrtek
Pm if you need help
How do you go bouts signing it
I've never had to resign that one after making any changes. Just a reboot would suffice.
Edit: Maybe try using Metamorph to make your changes. That's what I did recently on that particular apk without a problem. I mistakenly thought I pulled/pushed that one, but maybe I didn't.

heres a good instruction for theming and a singningzip for your sdk tools folder... http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/56-mods-blackbar-etc-50x/page__st__20__p__3320#entry3320
Hey Guys,
I have been attempting to mod my framework-res.apk to try and add a percent battery icon (unsuccessfuly so far). Here is my issue, after finding that my modded framework file isnt working properly, I go to try and restore the original. After restoring the original I still get tons of FC's and the only way to get things back to normal is to restore my backup from CWM.
The method I am using to replace my framework-res.apk is to use a root explorer (ES File Manager) to copy the file to /system/ then from there I modify the permissions and then move the file to the framework folder, overwriting the existing file. After this, I reboot the phone.
My question is, why is my original framework-res.apk file causing force closes? It is starting to make me think that even my modded files are ok, but that the issue is arising in the manual transfer.
Sorry if the answer is posted elsewhere, I googled and was only finding issues with the apk not being compiled correctly, but that shouldnt be an issue with the original apk.
*EDIT* I figured it out. It appears it was because Jkay Deluxe was installed. I decided to reflash the rom and try with a fresh copy of the framework-res.apk and everything appears to be working now.
I currently use a HTC HD Mini (Photon) running the SCREAM ROM by Ling Gan. It has a few bugs for most of which there is either a workaround or fix but there is the one problem which has remained unsolved: the default wallpaper on everything BUT the home and lockscreens cannot be changed. It is of a tree in a meadow under a blue sky and when rotated to landscape changes to some smiling chinese lady in the "settings" submenu. Doesn't hamper use much but it is quite annoying.
I have tried a number of solutions some of which resulted in my having to reflash and others did nothing. I post this here because I think it is a CM7 issue. The ROM developers have so far been unable to post a solution within the thread and I am aware that a fix for similar problems on CM9 ROMs exists using ADB to edit framework-res.apk. I felt it was time the problem was tackled by the wider XDA fam. Used google translate to look on the chinese site where the ROM is native to (mobile-kon) but found no help as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i think ur problem lays in the framework-res.apk it contains the look of the rom and the transition effects
you can mod apk with the apkmanager tool for ur computer in the frameworkresapk you should find the images u want to change replace them witch a black picture or something like that
if never done this befoure exept from changing some transition effects and i had a couple of errors among this
the easier way seems to search for the rom on another page cus the images ure stating are not standart in the cm7
SOLVED!

Many thanks!
I started off looking through the "res" folder in framwork-res.apk using Root Explorer to identify the images for the wallpaper. They were
Res/drawable-land-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
And
Res/drawable-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
I then created a copy of framework-res.apk on my SD card and copied it onto my pc. I created new wallpapers to replace the ones I just mentioned, one in portrait, the other in landscape. They were 320x480 and 480x320 respectively. Using 7zip on the pc, I placed them in the corresponding folders (/drawable-mdpi for protrait and /drawable-land-mdpi for landscape).
I copied framework-res.apk back to my sdcard and then fired up terminal emulator to run the following commands
su
sys -rw
busybox cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
sys -rw
You might get error messages from running apps after this but ignore them and reboot. The idea is to replace the framework-res.apk in system/framework with the one you just edited.
After the reboot, you should have your newly created wallpaper showing up in settings in both landscape and portrait modes.
Please hit "thanks" for both jiffer1991 and I if this was helpful. Big ups to jiffer1991for pushing me in the right direction.

hm u got stuck in a bootloop thats what i meant when i mentioned errors =)
you could make a zip with the old framework res apk or reflash the cm rom
if u dont whipe data/cash ure setting will be safed
read some tutorials how to mod the framework res apk
I have an .zip file on the sd card.
Can i copy it to the Android system somehow?
Felix
P.S. can i zip the framework and remove the ".zip" to ".apk"?
It is most likely that the zip file you have is the ROM image from which you flashed in the first place. Changing the extension to apk is NOT what you want to do. I suggest you create a backup in CWM of you present configuration and after reflashing, you can then do a partial restore of your user data. But its like Jiffer1991 said, read up on CWM, theres an exhaustive guide on xda somewhere.
Thanks,
i installed my modified cm rom without wipe caches data or something.
And now i have my old datas back, with the new Background.
Hello,
I flashed a different media_profiles.xml (found in the latest camera thread in the developer section) to try out open camera and see what it could do to see if i wanted to venture from stock based roms (with all the LG camera features) to an AOSP based rom but i forgot to back up the stock media_profiles.xml file first.
does anyone have copy of this file from 47A that they could share? I dont think i lost any functionality with xcamlg as 60fps 1080p video still looks correct but id rather have the file in case i do run into any issues.
i tried to browse system.img from the 47A rom on my PC with 7zip and extract media_profiles.xml and copy to my G3 and reset the permissions and reboot but there is something about the file that solid explorer isnt happy with and im guessing its the program i extracted it with or windows or something that isnt linux/android friendly.
anyone know the proper way to do this in addition to posting the file?
thanks
brian
Here's the one from my running ROM, which is stock 47A so it shouldn't be different than what's in the system.img. If you have trouble with this one, I'd guess there's some other problem going on and maybe try a different root file manager. Or maybe you just can't replace that file while the ROM is running.
You could take zip you had flashed which had the one your current running, delete the .xml file out of it, place this .xml (or the one you extracted from the system.img) in the zip in the same place as the other was, then flash this new zip file.
For what it's worth, I've never had any problem using any file I extracted from the system.img with 7-Zip - but since I've never fooled with that one...
thank you.
ill try it in a few min.
yeah i remembered someone saying use 7-zip rather than other utilities (cant remember if it was you or stang5litre or muniz_ri over in the vzw galaxy s4 forum) to edit/extract android images.
great idea on swapping files in the zip. if i cant copy this one in ill try the zip swap method.
Brian
problem solved.
turns out it was my fault. i was able to copy the file that i extracted into system/etc/ no problem but was not able to change permissions so i figured that it was something wrong with the file.
nope...
when i copied in your file, i couldnt change permissions..... it gave me the same error.
i was using solid explorer and i had the phone sideways so i could have two directories selected for super easy copying.
downloads on the left, system/etc/ on the right.
once the file copied into the right window, i tried to scroll down to the bottom of the list where it now was placed and edit the permissions in the right window and it gave me the error.
i rotated the phone vertical so there was only one window and selected system/etc/ and the file and was able to change the permissions no problem. then rebooted the phone and everything was back to normal.
oops....

Yeah it's weird. I guess you have to "refresh" the window before you can edit permissions of the file. I just tried to set permissions in both the left and right window when in landscape rotation just to check and you can.
Its just that you can't immediately after pasting a file. You seem to have to select that directory again.
I'll try to contact them.

I am trying to figure out how to extract the camera app from the stock ROM to use in the CM13 ROM. Partly because I would like to use it for slow-motion video and to experiment with it, but also because I would like to turn this into a learning experience. I've been following instructions to flash ROMs for a few years now, but haven't gone farther than that.
So here has been my experience so far:
- Backed up CM13, flashed stock (rooted), and converted the app to user app in order to back it up.
- I noticed that it would crash on startup as a user app, so I converted it back to a system app as an experiment. It still would crash on startup.
- I decided to try going another route and extracted the stock ROM in SuperR's Kitchen. Got the apk, flashed it in CM13. Same situation: crash on startup as user or system app.
I am unsure where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Side note: I know there is a questions sub-forum too, but I figured it fit here better as it is about extracting an app to mod the ROM. If I was mistaken, please just move the thread over to the appropriate sub-forum.

Did the logcat give any pointers as to why it might have crashed?
It's a camera app, for MiFavor, and only for MiFavor. It's probably depending on something else from the stock ROM, and that's why it's crashing in CM.
I like this idea. I might even look into modifying the app itself, to see if we can get it working outside of MiFavor.
I don't think I worded it clearly enough, the first time I converted it to a user app and back to system, it was still in the stock ROM. Something about the conversion screwed things up. I'll have to flash stock again at some point and grab logcats while it's working and after I screw it up.
In the meantime, I attached a logcat for everything containing "camera" after it was converted to a system app in cm13. It's kind of harsh to look at it in pure text format, but I used the matlog app with its color coding to record it.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at with this, or if I went about this in the right way.
EDIT: I have no idea why the logcat is not attaching correctly. I'll need to find some other way of doing it.
It works fine under CM according to a friend. You just need the libs to go along with the app.
Here is the WHOLE folder of ZTE camera, he just put this inside the /system/priv-app/ folder and apparently it's working just fine after a reboot.
https://my.mixtape.moe/znyabg.7z
Remember to press thanks and buy me a beer.
It's still not working properly for me, but here are a few things I noticed:
- When I extracted the app from the ROM using SuperR's Kitchen, that folder did exist in /system/priv-app/ZTE_Camera/. However, the directory was completely empty, unlike your download.
- When I installed the app in CM13 and converted it to a system app, it moved to /system/priv-app/ rather than /system/priv-app/ZTE_Camera/.
- I copied the lib folder to /system/priv-app/, didn't work. I then created the folder ZTE_Camera and copied both lib and the apk into it. Didn't change anything. Of course rebooting with each change. I didn't think this would work in the first place, as the application shortcut on my home screen points to /system/priv-app/.
Definitely thanks though for helping me out. Beer... that's another matter. Nasty stuff that is. I can just hear people yelling at me behind their screens lol.
Was it a deodexed ROM? Might need to try it with the odex files? When I check /system/priv-app/ZTE_Camera, there's also an "oat" folder with odex files since this hasn't been deodexed...
Or maybe SuperR's kitchen was trying to automatically deodex while you were extracting.
To be honest, I never understood odex, just throwing ideas out at this point.

I'm sure it works, friend confirmed it works on CM13 and I'm using it on BrokenOS. To clear it up.
It should be /system/priv_app/ZTE_Camera. And inside that folder should be the apk along with the lib. If you just extract the zip I gave you into priv_app it should just work. I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. Everything about the camera works. Slomo, video h265, the works.
You can try making a backup of the stock camera app using titanium backup then install it on your phone after flashing CyanogenMod. What I would do is flash zad miix then back up the stock camera app with titanium backup. Then transfer the back up to your PC. Then flash CyanogenMod and reinstall the camera app with titanium backup.
as already I will have this phone I start doing this mods
if anyone can search the file this and tell me if an entry is interesting?
I'm currently using LOS 14.1, and the method suggested does not work - File Manager throws an error about R/W, TWRP claims /system is empty, and ADB push says "Successful" but isn't.

It is working for me, just copied the files with root explorer to priv-app, restarted and it is up and running.
Thanks @BlazingBullets for providing the files!
PS. the only problem so far is that you can't access the pictures right through the app, i think we need the zte gallery for that.

Used SuperSU 2.79SR3.
I can confirm using the files provided works. I have the stock MM camera working with all of it's shooting modes !
Any body have the files in a .zip they can upload? I have no computer access and the few apps I tried on my phone seem to corrupt the files.
First app I tried extracted the 7zip file just fine.

You have to disable the write-protect on the system partition: in a terminal emulator, preferably in TWRP, type out:
Code:
reboot disemmcwp

Thanks, that did it. Copied successfully to /system/priv_app, but it doesn't show up after a reboot. When I accessed the folder and tapped the APK, I got "there is a problem parsing the package."

Should I give it full permissions then?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: After giving everything (ZTE_Camera folder, the APK, the lib folder, the arm folder, and all the libs) full permissions, the app works. However resolution is limited to 8Mp 4:3 (3200 x 2400). Can anyone else confirm this?
