my xperia Z2 D6503, has build number 17.1.A.2.69, unlocked bootloader, and rooted
im planning to update it to .314, how can i do this? is it ok to update (.314) at sony pc companion? i know my root will be lost, so i should re-root again, no problem for me. but updating in pc companion with my rooted .69, should there be no problems at all?
i have a backed up rom (.69) with nut dual recovery, if any problems can i boot again in recovery? im thinking because root will be lost, recovery should also be lost.
or
can i flash new roms here like aroma? or any modded roms, i believe this roms are from build .314, from stock .69?
i read about flashing this customs rom, but other requires that the base roms should be .314
im so sorry if i have lots of questions, and im reading all the facts here in forum about Z2, im just careful enough not to mess up my Z2. i had xperia Z before and done lots of flashing new roms and root, but just to be careful with my Z2..
thanks in advance for any kind of info/replies.

the easiest way to do this is to use flashtool and a FTF
just simply exclude Data
i dont think you can flash across stock based rom versions without data wipe, it hasnt worked any time i tried, i used flashtool instead
- do i need to explain how to do this?
links
FTF

Flashtool

a million thanks
thank you very much.. this is a big info on me..
If you are rooted & bootloader unlocked then OTA update & PC companion updates will fail with modified software error message.
Like Envious_Data said you would need to use FlashTool & untick data in the wipe options to keep your data, you will lose root & the dual recoveries but you can easily use EasyRoot to root again then use the installer version of [NUT] dual recoveries.
I had some issues with SuperUser with data wipe unticked so ended up doing full wipe in FlashTool.
Good luck
use flashtool is very fast...
cant see the firmware on flashtool
i had downloaded the stock rom .314 RU, from the given list of Stock Roms on that page, the file is in Zip, when i moved the zip file on flashtool/firmware i cant see the ftf file. all i see is Device: X10, Version: V1, Branding: BLRelock
am i doing wrong?
If the FTF file is in a zip or rar archive file then you will need to extract it first, open the zip file & if there is one file in it with FTF extension then drag it from the zip to the firmwares folder in flashtool.
eg if you have installed flashtool to program files directory in windows open the zip file then browse to the flashtool\firmwares folder & then drag the zip file to the firmwares folder, it should then appear in flashtool when you click the flash button, just make sure you select the firmware FTF file & NOT the X10_V1_BLRelock.ftf file.
Thanks for the Help Guys
Thank you very much
Im now updated to .314 and searching for an update to .402
the one i downloaded zip file has no ftf extension, i think its a stock rom in rar file and is installable in recovery mode, so i search and find a file w/c is in unbranded-Australia with ftf extension
im now rooted in .314 and searches for a good ROM for my Z2
Again. Thanks for the help Guys... You're all the best. :good: :good:

Here is the tutorial for Installing stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM plus root and CWM. I am not responsible or anyone mentioned below for bricking your phone in case, tested on my Xperia ray with unlocked bootloader using S1 tool.
Requirements
Unlocked Bootloader (preferred) although there is a work around for locked bootloader
4.0.2.A.0.62 FTF files
Flashtool
recoveryRay.img by and Rootxperia.zip b1n4ry (for rooting)
CWM
Installation:
How to Install stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM:
Download this stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM. Thank you Aire for providing the link.
After download you will have a zip file. Extract it.
Download flashtool here and extract it.
Create FTF file using flashtool from the 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM zip you extracted earlier. Now if you don't know how to create FTF files, there's a good tutorial here.
If you successfully created FTF file, you should see a file with extension “.ftf” in the “firmwares” folder inside “FlashTool” folder
Run the executable “X10FlashTool.exe” located in the FlashTool folder
Now click “Flash” button and select flashboot. Now select the firmware from the popup menu. Make sure “Wipe user data” box is checked and then click “OK”.
The application will ask you to put your Ray in flashboot mode, to do this turn off the phone, hold the volume down button while while connecting the USB cable to your computer.
Follow the on screen instruction and your device will reboot. Notice that the reboot process will take longer at first.
How to install Root
Please note that this is only applied to devices with unlocked bootloader. Alternately, you can just install a custom kernel and root using zergrush method but if you want to try the .62 kernel from this stock rom then do this.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
Enter device in fastboot mode. Turn off phone, hold volume up while you connect the USB cable to computer
Download the recoverRAY.img provided below, you will get a zip file, extract it.
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
Place the recoveryRAy.img inside the folder
Open command line in this folder
Test if it recognize your device, to do this type fastboot devices, if there is a result here proceed.
Now here's the tricky part, to enter a temporary recovery type fastboot boot recoveryRAY.img
*Notice that we didn't use fastboot flash boot ****.img here because as bin4ry said this recovery is designed to work just as recovery, if you flash it to your device it will NOT boot system anymore! This is just a temporary recovery for you so be careful not to flash it.
Now wait and your phone will reboot, you will see the FREE XPERIA splash screen and your device will now enter temp CWM recovery
On your phone choose install custom zip, locate the rootxperia.zip you added earlier in your SD card and flash it.
Reboot, your device is now rooted.
*to root your device with locked bootloader, they say you can install previous stock kernel and root using zergrush method.
How to install CWM
Download this then extract
Make sure you enabled USB debugging, and also you need to set Screen timeout to 10 minutes so you don't miss the superuser promt
Run install-cwm1.cmd from the folder
Follow screen on screen instruction, reboot.

Aire said, his current kernel supports .62 but they are currently working for repack based on this new firmware.
I haven't tried installing any custom firmware at the moment, I want to test this stock firmware for changes and improvement especially the baseband and battery consumption.

UPDATE 2: SEUS update won't brick our phone if it uses the Testpoint method O what a happy day it is.. Let's see if i can flash aire kernel back.
is that a global version or what ? some people said, that version has some bugs..
can we root this version with the new DoomLord v4 Root ?
from the Arc forum, i found that they can root their device with .62 firmware just by using flashtool.. can we do that so ?
thx

The firmware is provided by Aire, however if you encounter ftf generic firmware, it will be nice if you post it here.
As to bugs, I'm using this firmware for a day now and I noticed improvement in battery and speed, no bugs so far. I haven't tried the doomlord v4 root, but rooting via recovery is easy.

O that.. That means you need to unlock the bootloader (at least with Test Point method). Never thought that won't work before.
most download link from MultiUpload cannot download the firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM, any alternative link?
Thanks.

If your bootloader is still locked you can not root your device using that method. The only work around is to install previous kernel and root using zergrush method.

Thank you "idareyoutoclickthis" and "hansip87" for your replies.
In fact I had rooted my Ray earlier 4.0.2.A.0.42ver using the zergrush method using DooMLoRD_v4_Root Which I lost when I upgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.62ver. Now DooMLoRD_v4_Root won't work with 4.0.2.A.0.62ver update.
Now what about the bootloader thing? Sorry for being so dumb. Can you please elaborate a bit? I've got only got to the point wherein i checked the status using the service menu (*#*#.....#*#). It only says Rooting Status: Bootloader unlocking allowed: Yes.
What do I have to do now? Please help.

Indeed .62 is the latest built which include alot of improvements specially on batter issue.
If you don't want custom rom and kernel and is contented with the stock ROM and kernel then you don't need to unlock your bootloader.
to root your device, you need to flash stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 kernel only, you can do this with locked bootloader and root using zergrush method.

Hi there
The last time sony released the .62 rom when everyone had no root because they have waited that someone builds a custom kernel i thought about rooting my phone but staying on stock .62 kernel.
It is really simple to do that, the only things you need is:
1.A phone with unlocked bootloader
2.Flashtool package of the software you want to root (because of the kernel.sin inside)
3.Any custom kernel with cwm
4.su zip (in atachments)
The first step is that you flash the build version that you want like sony releases a new one then flash it.
second is that you open the ftf file from the software you flashed with 7zip and extract the kernel.sin.
The next step is that you flash a custom firmware of any previous build like the .42 or so or even the cm7 kernel.
You can do this with flashtool or with fastboot.
After you done that boot into recovery go to mounts and storage and mount the sd-card. copy the su.zip to sdcard and unmount the sdcard.
then go back and go to install zip from sdcard.
select the su zip and install it.
power off the device after this is finished.
open flashtool and plug your device into fastboot mode and flash the stock kernel.sin.
after this boot up your device and now you got the newest firmware from sony with root and you don't need to wait for a dev to write a custom kernel
after it booted up you may need to update the superuser binary and the app and install busybox with an busybox installer from the market.
Have fun ^^
If this was usefull for you press the thanks button
Thanks. It works on my wt19i (live with walkman)
how can I make the bootloader?
if i do this, will it reset my system data and phone memory/factory reset???
No it won't reset your data as long as you don't klick on it in recovery :-D
Just stricktly follow the tutorial and you won't have problems

how i can root the new firmware 6.1.1.B.1.54 for the xperia u ??
First, you need to flash the B.1.10 kernel available here and then, root it using Bin4ry's Tool After that, flash back B.1.54 kernel and you are done
and how i do it? can you write an instruction
i know, my english is bad ^^
Do you know how to use Flashtool ? What you need to do is either get the kernel file or the entire Stock FTF from here, then flash it with Flashtool
After selecting Flashtool, deselect all the options on top right relating to Wipe and select all options on bottom right pertaining to Exclude, except for Exclude Kernel (we dont tick Exclude Kernel). Then click Flash and connect your device and you succesfully flashed just the kernel of that FTF
Step-by-step please!
i dont get it
please can you make a step by step instruction for me please
i know my english is bad ^^
Take a look at this video It shows how to flash an ftf with Flashtool

Hey bro,
Sorry for late reply When you flash stock ftf, you'll lose root What you need to do is flash back just the Kernel of B.10 [In Flashtool deselect all the Wipe Commands and select all the Exclude Commands except the Kernel) and then you can root with Bin4ry tool or Flashtool. Then after that, flash back the kernel of B.54 or whichever firmware you wanted by the same way I just described
Hope it helps
Cheers

Okay, I have a big problem with my phone, I decided to redo the operating system to a new version/ROM because the one i was using on it before several issues where coming up with it, 1: I Couldn't connect to other providers even though i had phone unlocked. 2: Some default programs where having problems starting.
So When doing a kernel upgrade my phone did not respond kept staying for 2 hours on the "SE" logo, and would not budge, so i decided to remake it, after about 4 hours i was able to get a OS on it, but this OS was older and out of date, when trying to go back to xRecovery it did not want to come up, i downloaded a Reboot to Recovery APK, which informed me that My "xRecovery" was not installed, which is weird because it was installed before.
I been trying to get the Default root method to install xRecovery which every time i ran the "Flash tools" program, it would not allow me to install xRecovery.
If anyone can contact me on skype "mradziwilko" to help me out, or post here ill be here checking on forum every min.
Thanks

Hi buddy, Have you tried to use ftf file like zahdi5h, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212260 to update?
You have to have unlocked boot loader and you can drag and drop the ftf into flash tool. Make sure you tick no final verification in flashtool or you will get error.
If that don't work then I suggest starting over with fresh 2.3.3.
Go back to stock using Sony Ericsson Update Service (seus) Use google or search threads for program.
Then just re-do, unlock boot loader and install recovery again with flashtool.
Hopefully zahdi5h ftf file will get you out of trouble.

I downloaded this FTF File, when opening it with the latest Flash Tool, it does not Recognize it.
Is their a possability you can link me another FTF, i know CM9 worked, but because i dont have a boot loader i need a ftf to be flashed, i tried with the IMG file, but the flashtool.exe keeps saying <Waiting for Device> and does nothing.
Also to add more info :
My Phone I thought was originaly a Xperia X10a, which it bios it says its a Xperia X10i.

Hi mate is your boot loader unlocked? If not then unlock it with flashtool. Try Version 0.9.10.1 of flashtool. Work's for me.
Download from http://androxyde.github.io/index.html?1373179542000
And you can also drag and drop the FTF file into flash-tool. FTF contains Kernel and rom., tick the no final verification box on bottom right.

Not necessarily, when flashing the .546 FTF remove the three ticks under the Wipe Box in Flash tool. All your data should be saved after flashing.
I would suggest a clean wipe though, when moving to a new version. Just my opinion

Yes, I also repeatedly failed the final check verification when trying to update via OTA my rooted 5.0.2 Z2 with Nuts dual recovery, but I was able to update to 5.1.1 using Sony PC Companion. Word of caution, however, this will remove root and custom recovery, and there is no root exploit yet for 5.1.1 on our Xperia phones. Therefore, I would suggest you download a pre-rooted 5.1.1 rom flashable .zip file and flash it in your current recovery to get updated; backup your current ROM before attempting. There are multiple versions for different regions and countries to choose from.
Thanks guys. I am newbie for Sony. I success flash back to 4.4 and upgrade to6.11 from pre-rooted ROM. FYI, the king root does no work on 5.0.2/5.1.1 for my D6503.
