I don't, but I do have a dumb question, have you rebooted since you started having this problem? Try a different SMS app? Handcent?

Rebooted many times, but I just installed handcent
I can do and cannot do the following-
1) Text picture to phone- works for android and iPhone
2) text picture to an email:
Able to see picture on desktop, email arrives on phone w/o attachment
3) email to email-
works on desktop and phone
The only issue is text to email to view on phone

It sounds like your issue is your email... what type of account is it? Gmail?
Maybe the email account is showing the photo inline in the email instead of an attachment.

Email app not displaying images

Anyone else having this problem or know of a setting for this? I have my Yahoo mail set up. Emails with text display fine, but email with images (mostly emails from companies like ebay, etc) just come up blank. I don't see any settings or option to display images for the app.
Thnx.

Yup...if you want the images to display you need to go under the Receive Settings in the email app and choose a larger limit, otherwise, the images will not be displayed right away.
Hmmm... Don't have the show HTML button. I remember that from my Evo 3D, but don't have it on the Rezound. I have already bumped the download limit to 100kb and was having the issue. Bumping it up to 1mb now.
So I actually do have the show HTML button in some emails, like from livingsocial, but not others...

How do you replace the stock app. I downloaded the Yahoo app but the stock mail app still has notifications.
Id like to replace the SMS app too but I don't want notifications from the stock app.

Read on another forum about a workaround that works most of the time... Go into the settings and turn off automatic download.
My stock mail app has been force closing any time it is open lately.

[Q] Disabling GMail app (no root) - Solved

Hey all,
Can't believe I am actually interested in disabling GMail.
But the standard "Mail" app seems to have a nicer UI than the Gmail app. Especially since it has dedicated Gmail settings.
But how do I disable the gmail app (can't be uninstalled...yet)? Obviously without root, and not sure it's worth the trouble to temp root.
It's just that every email received at Gmail gives me two separate notifications...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
The best I can think of (without rooting) is turning off notifications for Gmail so you don't get harassed by two alerts.

That's really all you need to do.
I turned off the gmail notification the first day I had the thing for the same reason.

FWIW, the dedicated Gmail settings in the Sense mail app are POP3 settings. In other words, every email will show up on your phone as unread, even if you have read it on another device or the web interface.

Thanks for this. I did disable notifications for the Gmail app, which worked like a charm.
As to the pop3 mail, I did not get an inbox full of unread mail when I set it up.
Perhaps the Sense mail has been improved? I am familiar with what you are describing, but that is not the behavior I am seeing.

This issue happened for me on my Rezound, so we are talking about the same Sense version. When I set it up, I didn't get an inbox full of unread messages either, but every message I got from then on wouldn't get marked in Sense mail as unread unless I viewed it from within that app. So, for example, I could get a new gmail message in the gmail app/sense mail, and view it in the gmail app/web interface, but even after refreshing the sense mail it still shows up as unread. Eventually I had to remove the gmail account in sense mail and set it up manually as an IMAP.
An HTC rep responded to an email of mine and basically told me that manual IMAP was the only way to get around the issue. But kudos to you if everything is working!

Hey guys,
Previously on gb, i used the system app message, cant find on ics.
When i click on message, can see email, text.. Easy for me.
Now no more.. Can anyone help me on this?

I just got my RAZR MAXX yesterday and miss this app.
It contained all of my email accounts and SMS icon. It showed which ones had new emails, etc. All I can find on ICS is basically a unified inbox widget of the actual messages.
Anyone know of an app to do something similar to the old Messaging App? I have looked in the play store but don't find anything similar.
OR, preferably, does anyone know of what the APK was called so I can try to find it and install it? I really miss this feature. My luck is it is going to be a system feature.
they could have taken ANYTHING else out of ICS but I wish they would have left the UNIVERSAL MESSAGING WIDGET alone ..... I MISS IT TOO

I wish I had the knowledge to extract or find the apk. But I am sure it is a system app and built in.
You should see the chat log I had with Motorola on this issue. And if it was available in ICS anywhere.
It basically ended with them responding that this "Is a new feature added when they went from Gingerbread to ICS!" LOL I said IT IS MISSING, NOT ADDED you DUMBASS!!!
My work around it's by stacking text, emails and my im together on home screen.. Not as good but will do for now.

Can you elaborate and post a screen shot?
The closest thing I can find just for email, is when you click the email icon it usually opens to the last inbox. At the top is an email icon, and it says Inbox and which email account. If you click Inbox, it gives you a dropdown with a list of your email accounts and the number of unread messages plus the option to create combined inbox. You can switch email accounts there. But I would still like them to all show like in a folder without having to click the dropdown. There is also a 1 x 1 email widget that you can set to a specific account. Do one for each account. Then those can be combined into a folder, but you don't get the number of unread emails superimposed on the account icon like the old app.

Im currently using Gmail app, but i wanted to ask for your oppinion.. Im in dillema between gmail app and stock email app for @gmail.com mails..

In stock email you can attach all types of files. Which is impossible in gmail app that offer to attach only a video or a picture.

i use stock app because of other site's mail account.
but using gmail app seems to be nice, too
stock has support for air view (awesome), multiple accounts (gmail, yahoo, aol, etc), nice widget
Well, one thing that is keeping me off the stock is following :
I have student email on my university... And i merged that with gmail acc, and it is set up on gmail account so when i go compose new on gmail i can choose from which account to send... I cant do that on stock email app

I don't get much time to play with my phone, but if I had time I'd uninstall that crappy Gmail app.
I can't say a single advantage of it over the stock email app. I like the email sent notification of stock email app if that's an advantage, I like smooth multi touch it provides, I like how the body of an mail is formatted and so on so on...
That update of Gmail app have saved it from at least 10000 uninstallation, if that's the word, Lol.

You've gotta be kidding me right?
Gmail 4.2.1 is the very definition of smoothness.
Stock email app is choppy as hell, even in this monster of fast and smooth phone.
Don't get me wrong, with the new MA5 update, stock email is much smoother than before, but still pales in comparison to Gmail

Two differences that I know of:
1. The gmail app syncs chats but the stock email app doesn't.
2. The email notification generated by gmail when a user receives a ping when he or she is offline is synced by the gmail app but not by the stock app.

Hi
How to remove or disable gmail app? i dont want to use it
I came from iPhone and i've noticed problems in both apps.
- Gmail: No unified inbox, conversation view can be better (like iOS stock Mail app)
- Mail: No conversation view at all (and it's definitely not a good thing) and no push mail from gmail
In my daily usage i use gmail for the push service and the conversation view. But i think that iOS mail app and Gmail for iOS are better.
I've used all the other mail clients for Android and every app has some problem.

You can use the m.google.com exchange server, although I don't know how much longer that will exist.
I hate the black background on Stock Email, if you driving in car you will have problems to read, that is better on white background wit black fonts like on gmail app! So i would like only getting white background on stock mail app! Everything elese works (but surely, on my HTC ONE X) it`s much smoother! I´m on Omega 11 in moment!

I hate conversation view and that's why I disabled it in Gmail settings, maybe that's why I don't see conversation view in Gmail app as well. How do you enable conversation view in Gmail app?
And the stock email app has an option of conversation view. You can see it by pressing menu. However I don't know what it does as I haven't used it yet.
And the email client in iOS is way better than any Android client I've ever used.

You could use 'negative colours' under Accessibility. It'll make the background white. Just make a shortcut of Accessibility option which is accessible via Post key.
Also you could use the lighter email text mod of Xposed, not bad.

You can attach any file type in gmail.
If you have a file explorer installed, click attach picture, choose your file explorer as the method and then pick the file you want.
A bit dumb that you have to do it that way but it works. Lol.
I use each alternatively depending on who I'm emailing.
Also my gmail pushes mail just fine

I personally disabled the stock email app and replaced it with Aqua Mail.
I find it perfect for what I need.
Gmail app only has a problem: can´t attached all file types, so I´m using both aplications; gmail app only with gmail account and stock email with hotmail account to attached all file types.

[Q] Is there a way to make my S4 look like a GNex for exchange email purposes?

Here's the deal - I want to add my corporate email account to the stock app on my S4 however - my company has stopped approving individual Android phones to the network. They now want me to use the 3rd party app Touchdown, which I don't want to do.
My last phone was a Galaxy Nexus and was able to successfully use the activesync exchange. Is there a way to trick my company in thinking I have a GNex (approved phone) so I can use the native app? Changing the phone name in the build.prop file didn't seem to work.
I'd prefer to use the S4 native app but if I can pull the stock app from the GNex, that works too.
Thanks for your help!

I can't really answer your question, but have one of my own to you. What's wrong with Touchdown? I actually prefer it since I only have to enter my pin when I launch the app. When I configured the stock app for Exchange I had to enter it every time I woke my phone which drove me crazy. I acknowledge it's a personal preference thing.

Stock looks so much nicer. Looks like an app actually created for JB. Touchdown looks like a blackberry app from 2003. I like the way stock integrates with my calendar.
Also, I used the modified version of the stock app so I didn't have to enter a PIN

While I agree that visually Touchdown is not as nice as the stock app, it will sync the phone's native calendar with exchange.

When you setup the account in Touchdown you just select the Calendar to sync.
I have used it on many different ROMs and since my Galaxy Nexus. I have noticed that sometimes it can take a while for the events to appear in the calendar. (A couple hours at times at first.)
I think you are SOL. The Exchange server you will connect to can (and is probably configured) to check a unique hash generated from your current phone that is registered at the first sync that was done on your GNex. There are hacks out there, but I have no idea how well they work.

When you initially set up the account it gives you the tick boxes for email, contacts, and calendar. I select email and calendar but not contacts and it has always synced my calendar.

Correct. I was told by my internal IT that they do not authenticate individual models of Android phones anymore for activesync (because there is so many different versions. ugh.). So they tell you that if your device isn't already on the list, you need to use Touchdown. I was able to use the stock app on the Gnex, but can't on my S4. The error message simply says "Setup could not finish: Authentication failed".
I was hoping there would be some way to manipulate the app so my phone would appear as a GNex to the network.
Now that the S4 had been out for a little bit I will give this a bump and hope someone had a solution Please help . Thanks!

And see the post from 12-18-2012, 11:55 AM alvarez13.
One of the many times I restored I did have a problem with FC's and created a step 6...
6. If this doesn't work just remove those two apps from the app folder and install the 2 apks from the SD Card. Then run TIBU and convert email to a system app, if it errors reboot the device.
If all else fails you just remove those two apks, and rename the original files back and reboot. Of course as always....
Please make a backUp when trying any mod, I am not responsible if your phone breaks. Yada Yada :good:
